Rosedale Center Opening Potluck Food Hall with Justin Sutherland, Josh Thoma, and Jason Matheson | Eater Twin Cities

"Serving a lobster roll at the Potluck dining hub, this Smack Shack outlet is part of the revamped Roseville mall's lineup and represents one of the familiar Twin Cities names brought into the two-story food collective." - Joy Summers

Google
$36 for a lobster roll and this was all I got. Disappointed would be an understatement. The food came out quick which was great but that was pretty much the only good thing about this place. You can find other lobster rolls in the metro area for half the price and more bigger portions.

Google
I ordered take out and made the mistake of not checking my order before leaving. The chilled loster roll was just a few slices of bread and a container of lobster salad, a pickle slice and bag of chips. Not worth almost $32.95. I added on fries and didn't receive those. The lobster mac n cheese, while still priced high at $26.95, was a decent sized portion with a fair amount of lobster. I did attempt to contact the restaurant about the missing fries, with no luck. Definitely won't be coming back.

Chris was very friendly and made us feel welcome. We had the jalapeño cheese curds which were perfectly crisp, super flavorful and came with what tasted like homemade ranch dipping sauce. The serving size was more than enough for 2 people. The drinks were delicious and well prepared. Chris even took the time to customize mine to taste. We will definitely be back to try their other dishes!

Came here for takeout with my daughter. UPDATE: Katelyn reached out to me today and offered the choice of a full refund or in-store credit to make it right. I appreciate the contact and look forward to trying it again and having a better experience. She was receptive to feedback and will work with the back of the house to improve the take out lobster roll. Ordered two lobster rolls for $70. We got a smashed piece of toast and a cup of lobster that tasted terrible. No flavor at all. Gross. I tried to call management right away but there isn’t a manager at this location and none of the other locations will take calls about other locations. No email for customer service and no email for the owner Josh.

Google
We love to stop in to Smack Shack while shopping. The chicken tenders kids meal is large. Seating is easy. I have never ordered a drink, but there is a full bar. This is definitely a step up for mall food. I appreciate that this isn’t a sit down restaurant type of service. Sit down and wait for text alert when your food is ready. There are no time constraints.

Google
I got the shrimp basket. I received my order quickly and overall had excellent customer service. Both the fries and shrimp were well-cooked and seasoned, and both of the sauces were good. There was plenty of nearby comfortable seating. Definitely satisfied my seafood craving.

Google
Located in the Roseville Mall. Staff was OK. Food was decent but a little pricey. Got the fried mushroom and the mushroom and Swiss. Free refills at least. Overall it wasn't bad and a little different to regular food courts.

Google
Definitely will visit this location again. Love the atmosphere & friendly service from a food court in the mall. Manager accommodated us to make sure we had what we needed. Food was excellent as well as the service.

Yelp
Food: pretty good Service: good Ambiance: chill I ordered a Connecticut lobster roll and deep fried mushrooms for dine in. The lobster roll was pretty good. It had pretty good flavor and a decent amount of lobster meat in it. I do think it would taste better with more claw meat though. The fried mushrooms were good too. It tasted good with both the ranch and jalapeño aioli it came with. I would come back and get the meal again in the future.

Yelp
I was annoyed that of all the places and all the options in the food court, that my husband could be so basic as to order chicken tenders. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the tenders were not generic looking breaded and frozen chicken tenders that every generic restaurant has. They were freshly battered with real chicken and the fries were crisp and tasty. Service was a little show but understandable since it didn't appear to just be quick frying pre-made, pre-cooked tenders.

Yelp
My sister and I decided to get a quick bite to eat when we were at the mall. I really wanted to get the lobster roll since I have fond memories of it from their other locations but decided against it because of mixed reviews. I decided on the Shrimp basket so we can share. The basket came with tempura battered Shrimp, cajun fries, hot sauce and spicy aioli. The Shrimp were big and succulent, cooked to perfection. Fries were good as well. Service was quick. Had a good experience. Will definitely be back when at the mall.

Yelp
THEY HAVE GLUTEN FREE BUNS!!! I haven't been able to have a lobster roll with bread in YEARS and was so so happy to find that their Roseville one had options for me! The lobster roll was incredible but expensive My lobster roll with GF bun upgrade and a soda was over $40. Unfortunately I'd probably pay it again since it was delicious! Fun spot and the gentleman working was great!

Yelp
Don't waste your time getting Lobster Mac anywhere else... 1029 or Smack Shack in Potluck / Rosedale Mall is the best!!! The gooey oooey cheesey creaminess is a major foodgasm. The lumps of lobster are massive and the breadcrumbs and corn give nice texture and crunch. Potluck Food Hall is inside Rosedale and I'm so happy that they have Smack Shack. And they have kept the quality/ same recipe for their lobster Mac. It's beyond incredible. I tell everyone about this! Service was prompt here and they send a text alert when it's ready. The food hall can be a little chaotic, but easier after you've been there. Plus it's adorable inside and has a few fun photo moments. Few spots tend to pocket traffic, but over all good if you can weave around people.

Yelp
Here at the mall for a quick bite and bellied up to the bar at the Smack Shack. Quick friendly service and super fast on my food order. They are known for their lobster plates and it did not disappoint. I ordered the Connecticut lobster roll with fries. It came out with lots of delish lobster meat on a nice soft buttery roll. Fries were crisp and hot. Great portion sizes. Def recommend!

Yelp
The food was pretty much disgusting! I have made better lobster rolls at home. The lobster had to been frozen because it was really wet, to the point the bottom of the bun was soggy. It tasted like lobster, the fries were good. I just think if you love lobster rolls you should try them. It just could have been a bad day for them.

Yelp
We swung through to grab a quick bite while shopping - great life choice. We had the mushroom and Swiss burger. They do an excellent job. I'll be keeping an eye out for them if I need something in the go in the future

Yelp
The food was good, although not as great as I remembered it, but it was still very tasty. I ordered the lobster Mac & cheese, and my partner got the shrimp basket. The service was impressively fast, as our food arrived in just 10 minutes.

Yelp
I will preface this with saying I'm a Maine native, so my expectations for this place and the Lobster it served was very low. With that being said my standards are pretty high. As someone who spent the last 5 years of their life in the Midwest after leaving for college, nothing has came close to Maine lobster for me. However, I will say this is likely one of the best lobster rolls you will find in the midwest. Their style closely resembles that of an authentic Maine lobster roll, minus a few docked points for meat that I considered to be a bit rubbery. I don't know if I'd go back given my history, but it is definitely worth a try due to its unique decor, friendly staff, and quality options!

Yelp
Needed something quick for dinner and was at the Rosedale Mall. I've been wanting to try this place. It's attached to the burger place so they share the same menu and wasn't sure if we were able to order but we were. My friend got the chicken burger from the burger side and I got the Connecticut Lobster Roll. The bun was awesome and a New England roll. I was delightfully surprised by the amount lobster in it. It was delicious but a bit greasy - maybe too much butter on the bun. I do like the side of chips too! Good choice. Service is a bit lackluster since it's a "bartender" feel later in the evening but food was great.

Yelp
Went there for lunch on a Friday afternoon with a colleague who shared rave reviews about the other smack location in the twin cities. I had never been to a smack shack before this. She proceeded to get the lobster roll and recommended, I do the same. For $26 - I got the lobster roll, which came with a side of chips, not fries, but with a bag of 50 cent old Dutch potato chips. Anyways- I got over that as the food looked great until I took a bite and immediately regretted coming to this food court 'restaurant'. The lobster roll was not worth the price. It was a weird mix of hot/cold and the flavor was just ok. Lesson learned, that no matter how much the price maybe, food court food is going to taste like mall food court food. Will try to hit up the real location as everyone vogues for it and share my experience.

Yelp
My daughter just got her wisdom teeth removed and she is on a mac and cheese diet. She wanted a special mac and cheese so we headed to Smack Shack for lobster Mac and cheese. It's one of her favorites! I feel like the Smack Shack really specializes in all things seafood, they primarily have lobster and shrimp entrees. Everyone was so happy with their baskets of seafood goodness. I would say it's a winner winner seafood dinner!

Yelp
It was restaurant week and we ordered a lot for pickup. Mac and cheese Lobster Mac and Cheese Lobster Roll Connecticut Lobster Roll (substitute milk bread) The lobster rolls are packaged to keep everything separate so you can assemble at home. Nicely done. The mac and cheese needs more sauce because it dries out before you have a chance to reheat at home.

Yelp
This place has great food along with service and atmosphere. I stopped here while shopping and was glad I did.

Yelp
On Thursday, I went to the Smack Shack in the Pot Luck food court in Roseville. Citla took care of my chicken order, which was delicious. With excitement, she told me about other Smack Shack locations and a brief history of the restaurant. An employee has to be treated well to have that excellent of an attitude. Right now I am back in the Potluck court and am waiting for an order of lobster mac and cheese. Can't wait. Smack Shack has incredibly good food and they clearly treat their staff well, which is important to me.

Yelp
Folks this review is purely on service since we never received any food. I have been to 2 other locations for this restaurant and the food and service have been exceptional. So why bother with the 1star knock down? This location MUST pick up their end or they will bring everyone down. The first time I went there I ordered a to-go sandwich. I got there about 5 minutes late from pickup notification and it was not ready. Okay, no biggie. But when I got the order you could tell it had been sitting somewhere for quite a while. The to-go box was soggy and cold like all the food. Hard to take for $35 sandwich. Next, we went there for lunch ordered sandwiches and oysters. Watched the handful of other customers slowly leaving their tables without food. After 45 minutes we grabbed a server and were told they were down a cook. We expressed that we had to leave can we pay for our drinks. The server said that they could get our order to go. HUH? We can't be served at table but get it to go? How do oysters on the half shell travel? Thanks but NO THANKS. I want to be clear that there was maybe 6 other tables filled inside and out and we saw no food on them. AND the lead server was Very rude.

Yelp
I stood at the counter for a minute or two. Three employees saw me but did not acknowledge me or wait on me. They were busy talking. I ordered the Lobster Roll. It looked impressive. Grilled bread, big chunks of lobster. It was bland and boring. I squeezed lemon on it. That did not help. I put salt on it. That was better. The atmosphere of the place was ruined by the noise coming from Sand Box. People gaming and screaming and crying out constantly. Honestly, I enjoyed my Whopper Jr that I ate the day before at Burger King. Plus the sandwich was under $25 as well.

Yelp
No no no!!! This sandwich was just AWFUL... The "lobster" was teeny weeny fishy claws only and I spit out every bite. $21.00!!!!! NOOOO!!!! Never again. Shame on them. I'm pissed that I didn't demand my money back. YUCK

Yelp
I was here a little bit ago, and I had always wanted one of their lobster rolls. From the time I ordered, to when I got my food I have had a wonderful experience with the people who work here. From the friendly people who took my order to the fresh ingredients that they put into my roll. I also really liked how they had all the ingredients together expect the lobster meat, which was in a separate container, and just add it when I was ready. The price was a little extra, but totally worth having again, since it was so very filling. I also Iiked the simplicity of the menu, it made it so easy to decide what to order.

Yelp
I love the smack shack in minneapolis and I want to love the one st Potluck, but it's just poor quality. This is my 3rd time visiting and 3rd disappointment. I had to wait an incredibly long time and when I did get my order the fries were soggy and cold and the food was just tossed in the package. The taste of the shrimp was okay, but not for the $14 I spent.

K M.

Yelp
Not all Smack Shacks are created equally! We have been to the one in Downtown Minneapolis and the one in the Rosedale Center. The Rosedale center was more like a food court than restaurant. Felt the the quality of the food was lower but the prices were still the same! Downtown location was busy as there was a big concert in town. They servers were great and tried to get everyone in! The manager made the rounds and sat and talked to us for awhile! I had a lobster roll and it was phenomenal! My husband found his new favorite food of all time, the lobster Mac and cheese! With so many people it was hard to keep the place as "clean" as normal. Dirty tables and food on the floor! We will be back time and time again!
