Small Cheval - Gold Coast

Burgers are definitely hyped up. Not bad at all for a burger but didn’t feel it lived up to the hype. Service was good although I watched one of the staff working behind the counter as she reached into the fries tray and ate standing behind the counter .. bit off putting.

Grabbed the double cheeseburger at small cheval and was very happy. Juicy and delicious. No runny egg but definitely one of the better smash burgers I’ve had.

I have been other locations and Small Cheval is one of my favorite burger place in Chicago but this small cheval was disappointing… not bad but somehow it was not really juicy and something missing…

The food tasted okay and me and the person I was with had a bad stomach ache after eating here… We both ordered a medium-cooked cheeseburger with fries (w/ garlic mayo dip). There were only two options (through the kiosk) for how cooked you wanted it: medium and well done. We think we had stomach issues because the burger was undercooked. It was warm, not hot, and it looked like it was cooked to medium rare (on the border or rare, especially in the middle). It tasted fine, could have been better (the bun was dense and cold). We didn’t complain because we figured we’d be fine and because it tasted okay enough not to complain. Frankly, it’s unacceptable to me. I didn’t really notice it was undercooked until I took a couple of bites, which is already too late.

FYI. Went here because it was the closest to where we were staying. No reviews at this location but all others in town were over 4.0. Not being from Chicago didn’t know this was in an inside mall grouped with many other what I guess are local restaurants. Seating was inside the mall which wasn’t a problem. Ordered from a kiosk, not a problem. Gentleman giving us our order made them cook new French fries since the one’s sitting there were cold. Thank you. Didn’t know how to order drinks so other gentlemen gave us a cup each for fountain sodas, no charge, thank you! Fries were excellent but when looking for a good burger, this isn’t the place to go.

You'll get the typically great Small Cheval experience here! Great burger, great fries, and of course, that fantastic garlic aioli 👏🏼 The staff is super nice and helpful. I was here for a late lunch midweek, so it wasn't busy.

Located on the 5th floor of the mall, in Aster Hall. This is one of the nicest food halls I've seen. You need to order from the kiosk then pick up the food when it's ready at the Small Cheval booth. Food is the same as the stand alone Small Chevals. 4 stars because you're not getting the full Small Cheval experience. P.S. always get the garlic aioli.
