The 27 Best Places To Eat & Drink In Detroit - Detroit - The Infatuation

"When you’re with a big group and no one can agree on where to go for dinner, head to Craft Work in West Village. This place specializes in comfort food, like chicken pot pie and spaghetti and meatballs, along with things like lamb curry and their own take on the Big Mac. There’s a full raw bar as well, in case someone you’re with really wants some oysters with their pot pie. Craft Work also has long bar tables, so your whole group can sit together and eat a variety of things you’d never expect on the same menu, but that still somehow works." - sara barron, sam faye

I’m so grateful for Small Works. I originally tried the riso open studio in hopes of using their cutting equipment for my own bookbinding. I’ve learned so much from Gerald & Chen since then. The overall vibe is that of support and encouragement in your practice. Recently the shop has started offering bookbinding classes, which I highly recommend. Definitely try the riso and/or letterpress classes too. Open studio times are so valuable as well!

Thanks to Small Works I've picked up a new favorite hobby! I gained the skills in two classes to make some really beautifully bound notebooks. Thank you for the experience!

I had a book binding emergency and reached out to Small Works on Instagram knowing that they have started to offer book binding classes. I was able to come to the shop during book binding club and have my problem fixed, which took only about 30 minutes. Many thanks to Gerald and the other members of the club, you saved my journal commission!!!

Small Works is such a valuable resource for the print and bookmaking community in Detroit. Gerald & Chen are so knowledgeable about their craft. Their enthusiasm and encouragement is a great support for learners at any level. I took a beginner risograph class and through the open studio times continue to get support bringing my own print projects to life.

Small Works is an amazing educational community for Book Arts and printing. Letterpress, risograph, and bookbinding classes are taught in small cohorts, with an eye toward doing independent work during studio hours. Gerald and Chen are professionals whose knowledge runs deep, and they sincerely want to pass on knowledge to people at all levels of ability. There is no better place to get started if you are interested in Book Arts. Small Works also does amazing letterpress and risograph print work, if you want distinctive high quality printing.

We've have Small Works print posters for local events we've organized and wouldn't go to anyone else. Gerald and Chen are so knowledgeable and passionate about printing, and their level of attention to craft is evident in everything they do.

A great community print shop; working with Small Works has helped me grow my own skills in designing pieces for riso printing (example provided!) and meet some amazing local artists through their programming. An invaluable resource especially for metro-Detroit artists looking to get into riso printing.

Chen and Gerald are so helpful! I’ve printed multiple flyers with them on the riso. They are both very knowledgeable in design and have lots of insight to offer me. I highly encourage working with them.
