The 117-Year-Old Savoy Tivoli Is Finally Reopening - Eater SF

"Smart & Final Extra! is opening a new Bay Area location, its fifth in the region, at 430 Blossom Hill Road on December 14. SFGATE reports the store’s offerings, a combination of produce and bulk items, have made it a hit since its initial launch in the 1870s." - Paolo Bicchieri

Awesome new grocery store!! They have seemingly amazing deals on many bulk items and you don’t need a special store card or membership. It is also very clean and many staff were helpful and friendly. They have a lot of diverse and organic fresh produce. All around a great new store :)

Hi Yeah

Google
This place is amazing! I love the store But the customer service from Taylor was completely unprofessional, I didn't appreciate the way she talked to me. And wasted my time.

Lack of customer service leaving pallet jacks in the middle of the store where customers can hurt themselves meat department stocks turkey that has clearly gone bad and when you try to approach the meat clerk they run past you almost knocked over my elderly mother do better smart and final

This store is half a mile away from me and although I was coming here regularly at one point , now not so much for several menial reasons. Firstly, at one time the clerk at the register asked me if I needed a bag so I said “yea, I’m gonna need one”. But in the end he didn’t . I questioned him why I did not receive a bag. He told me that I didn’t want one . I said “no…I told you I wanted one”. It could’ve ended there but he took it one step further and told me “no you didn’t” in retort. Now , I know what I said but he didn’t have to tell me what I said. If I wanted to be told what I said I could’ve just stayed home and listen to the wife! It was downright rude , almost provoking an argument . Obviously I ALWAYS ask for a bag and I had about 7-8 items so I just grabbed it all and cupped it out in between my arms like I’m carrying a baby . He’s always there in the mornings at the registers too. A middle aged, balding Hispanic American man in his 30s. He should’ve known I always take a bag for this reason let alone being a regular customer at one time . Secondly, during this same time I WAS shopping there regularly, more than twice I inadvertently grabbed broken eggs without checking first . All three times it’s in the front row like they put it there purposely. WHICH leads me to my 3rd issue with this place . The one time I come here after not going to that store after three months , I grabbed the .99 cent BUDDIG deli meat turkey from of course the first position facing the windows. Well I just tried to make my turkey sandwich and opened the package up and a foul smell permeated my sinuses after noticing all the turkey meat was green and covered in slime. Guess that’s what I get for wasting .99 cents. NOT a very noteworthy visit to this place after giving them a chance again . But sure , otherwise the place is clean and the people are friendly . Guess it depends on when you catch them. This place needs a visit from Mystery Shoppers in my opinion. But sure , take a chance. The bananas are good. And most of the canned food and frozen dinners.

George was really rude and kept snatching the money out of my hand. And yelled at my friend who was before me about the final price. Sorry she's deaf in one ear. Maybe he needs to be trained more in customers service.

Google
Out of all the Smart & Finals that I have been in, this one might be the best of them all. The aisles are wide, the shelves are stocked, and the employees act like they give a damn to have a job. I might make the 15 minute drive to this location the next time I need groceries. I have to say the store seemed cleaner and much larger as well.

Yelp
Everyone should literally shop here we're having a huge Super Bowl party i literally bought everything I need for a huge meal under 200$ bucks I got everything and then some. The employees here are always so nice and helpful they don't have attitudes and that's everything for me. They always have a smile and I love it

Yelp
This is my favorite Smart & Final! Every party or family gathering I make a pit stop here and find everything I need. Fruit salad bowls, bakery items and fresh produce are the best. During the winter they have excellent deals for soups, fabulous meat section and oven ready meals. Clean and efficient. This is my favorite store!

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by this smart and final store. It was very different from the one near my house, which is more like a warehouse than a grocery store. This one was clean, spacious and well-organized. The produce section looked fresh and inviting, and I didn't have to navigate around staff restocking shelves in the aisles. I enjoyed shopping here even though I wasn't familiar with the layout. It felt like a place where I could find everything I needed for my cooking.

Yelp
All the stuff you need for all the great prices. Came here for something quick that we needed for home that a neighboring market did not have.

Sandra M.

Yelp
They have good quality food to choose from. Prices are good as other stores are higher in price. They have good service and are helpful.

Yelp
Very dirty and not sanitize, when you talk to employee about it, they are giving you attitude and they don't help and if you tell them, I want to talk to manager are telling you manager is not here and they don't care! Most of the items are spoiled and moldy and no one is helping you! Some people just work for a paycheck and the lady was trying to show me , I am wrong, she was too close to me and not giving me my personal space!

Yelp
Okay, options. Prices are okay. Service not so good. They don't check for ID when you buy liquor. My 19 year old cousin was not asked for an ID by the young lady working and they don't bag your items even though it's their job. Girl said she had a broken arm. But no one around her seemed to be doing it either. Maybe they should have self service check out, if they want us to do all the work.

Yelp
Great store, Great prices! I am so glad that we finally have an affordable grocery store in South San Jose! The store is always clean and well organized. The people that work there don't seem very enthused, but are still polite. There are always plenty of grocery carts and baskets which I appreciate. Parking is easy. I always find new things to try and enjoy this store very much. Check it out!

Yelp
I rate grocery stores by the quality of their produce, the cleanliness of the store, and the value for the goods that they sell. Because this store is so brand new, everything looks beautiful. When you walk in, all the produce is displayed beautifully. The pricing is good for both organic and conventional, and quality is great! Meat prices are also hard to beat! I hope that the store is able to maintain the way it looks, and the quality of their produce. In terms of customer service, the checkout workers have so far been professional, and greeted me with nice small talk. Great addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Honestly, when I first heard this location was opening I was so excited because I live down the street but I stopped coming here because the employees have the worst attitudes.

Yelp
Love this store! Amazing deals on good and fresh produce and weekly specials too. The store staff are helpful and friendly and seem to like working there. Big change from the previous market in this space. Clean, too.

Yelp
My family and I were shopping and saw a deal for clearance eggs. Of course, we had to inspect the eggs to make sure that none of them were broken before purchasing. While checking the eggs, a guy came up to us and accusingly asked us if we were switching out the eggs for eggs with later expiration dates. We were shocked and explained that we were just checking for broken eggs and putting the broken ones aside (so that we can notify someone after we finish checking everything). He then ordered us to report any cracked eggs that we find to an employee in a commanding tone like we were his employees. After that, he walked away. This guy had really bad customer service. Him hostily accusing us of shady behavior and treating us like unpaid employees made it an unpleasant shopping experience. Note: We did report the broken eggs to an employee because we were planning to do so anyway.

Yelp
They have a full stock of wine now, including the one that's my favorite. So things have improved. They have 2 electric scooters, one at each end of the store. Very convenient. The store is very large, too.

Breeze H.

Yelp
Most help in this store are RUDE! they don't want to be bothered and they treat customers like they are second class citizens. I asked this short fat women who was putting bread away and answered me reluctantly with attitude and told me to go down another isle so she's not disturbed. What these idiots don't realize are people like me pay their salary. I won't be going back anytime soon. They need a serious change in management and personnel. I Guarantee if this behavior continues that store will close. I'm going back to Costco where they do treat you right.

Yelp
2 stars because it's a brand-new location. Otherwise, it's the same bad customer service. Tried to buy a couple cases of wine but the person putting little price stickers on the shelves was too lazy to sort thru to find the specific wine cost. Asked the cashier if she could do a price lookup and she gave me a blank-eyed stare. Long story short, just went to Total Wine and gave them my money since S&F wasn't interested in making money that day.

Yelp
This grand opening store is so terrible customer service Bought two cases avocado yesterdays for the business. My boss and i got them extra and we cant use them all in one week so we decided to return two cases back but the guy at the front i dont know what his position is. His name is jeff denied us for the refund. Avocado in the boxes are new and still look good and fresh no point for not letting us returned. Bad experience in this store.

Yelp
Very clean , organized and easy to find everything for me & my family . Friendly store and ambiance.

Laura J.

Yelp
I am an early morning person, so I made sure to check all the information about opening times before heading out to this location in the rain. Everything online said they they open at 6am and the big sign on their window states that they open at 6am. I arrived at 6:10 and the doors were not opened until 6:15. I understand that it can be difficult to find employees, but there was more than one person inside who I did make I contact with.

Yelp
I just returned from the store, and the location is convenient for me. The produce department was very clean with a large variety. Prices are good especially the sale items. Good selection of beer and wine . My main reason for the review was the help I got from Marissa, the head manager in the front department was very helpful to me. Her lane was closed. And she still made the effort to help me set up the rewards program on my phone, so I was able to get the great discounts today. She was beyond being very courteous and helpful. I'll be back again

Yelp
New helpful service easy return when I made a mistake new close to home will come back

Yelp
I really wanted to love this store. The first time I went it was a good experience. Great prices and not crowded. The 2nd time was a whole different story. After waiting through a line of 4 people the line closed and I had to go get in another line. Then that line closed before I got to the front. 3rd try, rather than tell me he was closing as soon as I got in his line he waited till he finished the guy in front of me. Absolutely ridiculous. He should have either taken me or put me at the front of another line. I pitched a fit at this point. Even the customer in front of me told him it wasn't right. Every store I have ever been to has made sure if they are closing their line they let you know as soon as you walk up. I've even had a few stores open anohter line and take me first aong with whoever was inline behind me. If you treat all of your customers this way you won't be in business long. Train your emplyoees better! I will not be back. I'll pay extra at Safeway or go down to Grocery outlet on Bernal where the employees are always so nice.
