The Best Restaurants In Burien - Seattle - The Infatuation

"Smarty Pants has a Georgetown location, but it’s important to note that this one has a parking lot that you should take advantage of. That way, it’s easier to tear into the same spicy Chicago-style italian beef sandwich we know and love. These folks know meat between sliced bread, so skip the gritty queso dip, and head directly for literally any of their sandwiches for optimal happiness. Grab one to-go or eat it there with a cocktail, and revel in the fact that you didn’t have to circle the block eight times to find a street spot." - Nate Watters

Google
Seattle, now I've been here before and that time I was pretty impressed with the food but this time it was off. The server wasn't firing on all cylinders, and the sandwich I ordered was more sauce than meat. This all occurred in May at the Burien location. I'm usually pretty open to places like this, so maybe this was just an off day. I'll be back to try it again.

Google
Great service, great fries! Sandwiches were good, my Falcone arrived super soggy, bummed about the mushy bread but was still tasty. Husband loved his Taylor. The closeslaw smelled absolutely tasty off so skipped that. We did take out but the space was super happening on a Sunday afternoon.

Google
⭐⭐⭐⭐ – Good vibes, good eats Cool little spot with a laid-back vibe. I grabbed a sandwich and fries—both hit the spot. The fries especially were crisp and flavorful. Service wasn’t lightning fast, but the staff was courteous and the food was worth the short wait. I'd definitely swing by again when you're in the area. Soda’s were $2, cheaper than most fast food places.

Google
Excellent breakfast and friendly service I had breakfast at Smarty Pants Garage this morning and it was delicious! The food was fresh and flavorful, and the service was quick and friendly. The atmosphere is also really fun and quirky. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast. I will definitely be back to Smarty Pants Garage again soon!

Google
I had biscuits & gravy, my wife had the Lopez benedict - both very good and excellent coffee by Umbria. Even the hash browns were good - definitely NOT packaged items like Denny's. These were likely scooped a large box or maybe even riced on site. My only complaint is the loud, incessant banging from the north 1/2 of the front door. The damper on that side desperately needs adjustment - or replacement - the banging can be heard even in the bathroom. January 2025 update: They STILL have not fixed the annoying loud slamming of the front door. I'll bet I could fix it by simple adjustment of the closer/damping device at the top.

Google
Great Place. I want to give a 5 star review, but I feel the portions are a little small for the price. I get this is the new trend thanks to rising costs, but barely a 1/4 pound of meat on a "Chicago Beef" is a little too skimp. The Ruben is excellent as well. The food is good, great beer selection, good vibes I have had nothing but great service. Beautiful patio and you can bring your dog if they are well behaved and quiet... but it is a hefty price tag if you want a full belly in my opinion. The best part is, and the reason it is probably expensive, the food is well prepared and well thought out. There is great care given to the flavor. They make their own giardiniera for the beef, which wasnt spicy enough for me but delicious. The Chicago beef was a culinary delight, but I was kind of hoping for a big hot wet beef (it is a Chicago thing). Great place to try, highly recommend, but more for a snack and a beer than a place to eat.

Google
Burrito was really good! I ordered 'El Tigre' and the combination with salsa verde with hash browns was amazing. French toast was pretty average, but good. Good service!

Google
We are from out of town and found this place on Google Maps. Every employee we encountered were so nice and welcoming. It was definitely a breath of fresh air. Halloween is in a cpl days and they had the place decked out, the servers were dressed up too. Our server was so great! She was perfectly attentive and gave us the best service! We really appreciated her. The only reason I gave 4☆'s was because The burgers were on the small side compared to what we are used to, and the were way over-seasoned with pepper. But it was still good regardless. I saw a few sandwiches and they looked amazing! Huge portions for those, maybe the burgers were small because they are the cheaper item on the menu? We would definitely come back if we are this way again.

Yelp
GREAT PUB SANDWICH FARE. All kinds of tasty sandwiches and a full bar. My wife and I were looking for a happy hour where we could take our dog. Smarty Pants fit the bill with a backyard patio. Many of the tables out back are long picnic style tables. Great for groups of people. My wife and I had one of them all to ourselves as the patio was not very crowded on this Thursday afternoon. The sandwiches are amazing. I had the Lil Philly with roast beef (you can also have it with chicken) My wife had their signature sandwich The Troublemaker. We both loved our sandwiches but I have GOT to call out the fries. They are exceptional. Also beer lovers check out the rotating taps. You will definitely find one you love. So congratulations Smarty Pants on another five star review. Keep it up! Excelsior.

Yelp
My daughter plays soccer some evenings in the area and we have 45mins to kill. I can only compliment the bar and beer selection. Service has always been outstanding and fast. We did have the chicken quesadilla last visit and no complaints. I look forward to some other food choices as they look great.

Yelp
Good sandwiches, good beer, and good service. We enjoyed hanging out here for a while on a Wednesday afternoon. The outside patio in nice on a good day. I didn't know they made an Italian sandwich like on "The Bear" , or I would have tried that. Next time

Yelp
Awesome happy hour. Had several beers, fantastic street tacos for $30ish. Highly recommend the tacos and a good selection of beers. My friend is into IPA's (misguided!!) and I am into the porter's and stouts and they easily accommodate both with great food. Nice job.

Yelp
Went for Happy hour last night with some friends. Cool spot and it was all decorated with ghosts and ghouls. I'm not talking about the patrons (smile) The drinks were on point. Loved my ice "cube" in my old fashion. I don't know where they are hiding the sommelier, but, he/she/they must be an elf on shelf. .The drink was tasty without being too sweet. Next time I'll try the chocolate version. I had nachos with salsa and tacos. The carne asada was good but I really like the pork. Seasoned to perfection with pickled onions on top. Wasn't too much spices or seasoning to give bad breath. Everything went out without a hitch. All roses here... staff very accommodating and friendly. Tip generously they work hard.. There were only 2 servers but they move like Geppetto in a workshop. Kudos to the management.

Yelp
Delicious! I visited this morning after a tough workout and had some of the best breakfast I've had in a long time. My friend and I shared the Le Tigre burrito and ordered two alcoholic beverages. Everything was amazingly delicious. The burrito was perfectly cooked and seasoned with the right amount of flavors. It was also huge and more than enough for two people. The hashbrowns were perfectly cooked with the right amount of crisp. Even the coffee was delicious made. I highly recommend visiting Smarty Pants for breakfast as they definitely set themselves apart in the downtown Burien food game.

Yelp
While visiting our son near Seattle in Burien. This place was awesome inside. I ordered biscuits and gravy with OM eggs. Absolutely delicious. Hubby had the Lopez eggs benedict. Great service and excellent food. Im stuffed for days. The gravy was soo good, biscuits cooked to perfection, hashbrpwns were crispy.

Yelp
Great food and atmosphere! Sandwiches are tops - full of meat to fill you up! Plus parking is easy!

Yelp
This place having such a low star rating is an absurdity. This place is incredible. The food is amazing, the people that work there are amazing, everything is great! Also they have a ton of awesome vegetarian options, so if you're vegetarian you definitely need to check this place out.
google avatar

Jane N.

Yelp
Definitely a bar vibe. Nice atmosphere. Fast and friendly service. But the food was terrible! I ordered the turkey avocado wrap. It tasted very bland! Hardly any avocado and what tasted like cold cuts. What ever it was, it gave me a stomach ache for two days!
google avatar

Yelp
Came to Smarty Pants for happy hour for some snacks and drinks. We were seated immediately and got a spot on their patio with some nice shade but able to enjoy the Seattle summer air. We ordered a few local beers that were on tap as well as some cheese fries and chips to share. The fries were cooked wonderfully and the cheese sauces was delish. The chips were also great but could have used more salsa for how many chips there were. We also ordered the quesadilla which was surprisingly filling and a good deal for happy hour. The service and vibe were all very nice (whoever was on aux gets a 10/10) and we had an overall great time.

Yelp
The Troublemaker sandwich is extremely good. It's very tasty and feeling. The Ambiance is laid back in casual. And the service it's fantastic.

Yelp
I'd been there before and liked their food. Today I went with my husband and a group of friends. Several of us had Benedict type dishes. Every single one of us ended up with hard poached eggs. Two of us sent ours back. My friend got some replacement eggs that were better. My replacement eggs were still hard poached. On.A.Benedict. So I sent it back again. Same result. 3 plates- not one had decently poached eggs. Two other people ended up with hard cooked poached eggs. My husband and I ended up with no food at all. Someone needs to teach their cook how to poach eggs.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I visited tonight and we sat at the bar. Service was amazing bartender was extremely friendly and accommodating.

Yelp
A true Burien staple, this spot is our top choice for brunch--it checks all the boxes! They offer a delicious variety of sandwiches and an impressive beer and spirits selection. The brunch menu has everything from breakfast classics to some of the best pancakes in town. I personally love the El Tigre Burrito, but the SP Standard is also a solid choice. Plus, the service here is always warm and welcoming!

Yelp
Upon arrival, I asked if I could still order to go, or if it was too late. The guy said that the kitchen hadn't closed yet. I knew what I wanted before I arrived, but the guy told me twice to "hurry up" when I was ordering, which seems unnecessarily rude. I almost just left, but I was hungry. The two soups were tomato bisque and potato cheddar, so I paid extra for potato cheddar soup instead of a side order. After I got home I discovered I had been given tomato bisque soup. I don't like tomato bisque soup, so I threw it away. The sandwich seemed sorta small compared to what I remembered (maybe they changed the bun). I used to really like this restaurant, but I guess it's time to try sandwiches at other restaurants.

Yelp
Denise from Detroit was our server today and she's amazing. I love her energy and sass. My friends come here often and loveeee her so I decided to join them today for brunch. I'm really not a morning person so I showed up later and exhausted. Everything on the menu looked amazing but I went with the Poblano Bennie. The Bennie was delicious! Loved the sauce that accompanied it. Very flavorful dish. I also got a Bloody Mary and should have gone with a michelada instead. The Bloody Mary was a tad salty but I did water it down with some beer it came with. Overall great brunch with awesome service! Stop by and say hi to Denise if you're ever in the area!

Yelp
Don't waste your time. I'll never go back. I took my mom here for lunch ... well, I tried to. We placed our order and waited, and waited, and waited. For forty-five minutes. Tables seated after us were getting appetizers and mains, and we were still waiting. Who knew an egg scramble and tuna salad sandwich were that complicated? We asked our waitress a few times when the food was coming. She repeatedly told us 'she'd check with the kitchen.' Tbh ... I don't what she checked in with the kitchen about, but I watched the table across from us get seated, order, eat, and pay while we were sat waiting. We let the waitress know if the food didn't come soon, we were going to leave. Fifteen minutes later, the kitchen window was filled with food but we were, you guessed it, still waiting. I asked if our dishes were in the window? Nope. So we left. Another waitress (maybe the manager?) asked if we wanted our food boxed up to go ... I asked again if it was actually ready, and upon being told no, declined because we weren't going to wait for boxed food anymore than the table service food at that point. I have never in my life walked out of a restaurant. What really sucked was seeing my mom upset over what should have been a fun lunch out. I wanted to treat her and instead she left hungry and frustrated. Moral of the story: if you like sipping on ice water for 45 minutes while watching other people eat, Smarty Pants is the place for you. If you actually want to eat food, go someplace else.

Yelp
Came in on a Sunday later in the day like close to 1:45PM-2PM, when they close at 3PM on Sundays. Even so, they still tended to us with patience and kindness; gave us time to look over the menu and checked on us periodically after we received our order. Lots of free parking near the restaurant, so don't worry about that. There is indoor and outdoor seating. The place is pretty spacious honestly. Overall, a good experience and would consider coming back in the future.

Yelp
My go-to sandwich shop after picking up somebody at the airport! Food here is great and staff and atmosphere really fun.

Yelp
Enjoy stopping by the Burien location for a beer or two and a sandwich. Dog friendly in the patio area and they always bring water for my four legged boy. Great self beverages and fantastic sandwiches. Plentiful too

Yelp
A group of us stopped into Smarty's on a Sunday morning for breakfast before heading back north. Free parking can be found in the parking lot. Discover is an accepted form of payment. Smarty's offers family seating as well as bar seating. Brunch is served Saturday and Sunday from 9:00am-3:00pm. Smarty's offers a full bar with lively cocktails. Indoors is decorated with fun sporting memorabilia such as motorcycles and helmets. Smarty's is modest; large groups will be hard pressed to be seated together. During our visit, Smarty's was packed with people waiting to be seated. While looking over the menu, I sipped on a B-Town Bloody Mary with a Rainier Buddy for $12.50. Tasty Mary; however, garnishments were lacking for my liking. I shared the Ms. Piggy brunch sandwich with a friend for $14.50: Slow roasted pork with grilled onions, topped with coleslaw, Monterey Jack cheese, and BBQ sauce. Served on a toasted French roll. We chose the fries as our side. I'm not a fan of hand-cut fries so I let my friend have those. The sandwich itself was deliciously messy. Our server was laid back, friendly and knowledgeable. Overall, I look forward to returning to Smarty's next time I'm down south.

Yelp
Great Food and Atmosphere! Loved the Bartender how claims he makes the best BloodyMarys and he did not disappoint. The service was also great as well

Yelp
Food was solid. Happy hour tots & tacos a big hit! Beer was cold and tasty. Service outstanding! We will go back!

Heidi M.

Yelp
This place has delicious food! I love their eggs Benedict and hash browns. They make their food from scratch. The staff is always very nice too. The restaurant has a low key vibe.

Adriana B.

Yelp
I had a server Brooklyn who was just outstanding! I highly recommend her and this little place has such great vibes! The food was wonderful, my salad and kids grilled cheeses were 100/10
google avatar

Brian D.

Yelp
Not sure what happened to this place! Hour and a half to get food. No water refills and 20 minutes for a beer! Only one waitress and people lined up waiting and then leaving! Wednesday night..can only imagine on the weekend anymore! Do not go!
google avatar

Brian T.

Yelp
We stopped in when we were looking for dinner in Burien and it was a lot of fun. It was the last game of the women's basketball tournament and everyone was excited and our server was awesome and the food was pretty good and I would recommend it if you're near to check it out.

Yelp
Service: outstanding : only a couple folks working, but they hustled and communicated. Food came out fast: French dip was very good - great bread. Fresh cut fries Scamp sandwich : really good - great bread Chili - a little false advertising here.... Menu says meat chili - but this has beans - honestly closer to a minestrone soup . Note: Chili does not have beans: As a Texas boy, there is no debate. Once you add beans it's no longer chili. Priced very fair - parking on street out front of alley - parking lot in the rear. Cool outdoor seating, we will come back and try during the summer.

Yelp
Their hamburger looks like it is from the $2 value menu at McDonalds. Have not had a burger at Smarty Pants in years. What a downgrade.

Matrissa C.

Yelp
Burgers, sandwiches and cold beer. Friendly style bar, good place for conversation and meeting up. Staff is fine, as expected in a burger place. Smarty Pants a decent standby!
google avatar

Robby S.

Yelp
Food was great! The beef dip was fantastic! The queso dip was great too. Really cool place for a bite and a drink especially if you like motorcycles

Yelp
Nice place to have a beer and a bite with the pup. Good service as well. Good music and some parking usually available.

Yelp
Eh. "I've had better" is my overall opinion of Smarty Pants. I've eaten breakfast here a handful of times. Reason being, the convenience factor. My friend lives down the road, and getting a table on a Sunday morning is always easy and there's never a wait. (Go figure!)I need to remind myself of that sentence the next time the suggestion of "Smarty Pants" comes up. I've tried all my basic breakfast go-to's. Ranging from the classic egg breakfast- to biscuits and gravy - to CFS. Nothing stands out, honestly. It's not terrible food, it's just very basic. Basically blah. My friends require libations with their breakfast, so there aren't a ton of options. Smarty Pants is convenient and offers alcohol. That's where the appeal ends. Service is always decent, and the atmosphere is fun & I like the back patio on a sunny day.
google avatar

Nich A.

Yelp
The Chicago style Italian Beef... Winner! We love going to Portillo's (which there isn't one in the area) - this is just as delicious and their Giardiniera seems house-made - it's great! Fries were also enjoyable. Our server Xander was super friendly and attentive - totally an asset to this establishment. Will definitely return!
google avatar

Jenna B.

Yelp
The bartender / waitress was awful. I am one to give people credit when it's due but she came off rude from the get go. We went in to order as the sign on the door literally said "see the bartender to order" she then directed us back to our seats so she could come ten minutes later. I told her how i wanted my drink and she rolled her eyes at me and gave me my drink exactly how i didn't want it. Usually the food is good but this time it was fine. I would not go back any time soon based on the poor customer service.
google avatar

Ani K. O.

Yelp
It's been a while and I love this place. The Tip Top dressing on their salad Chopped salad is so tasty. Love the outdoor eating and love the vibe. But most of all... the BEST French fries ever.

Karen J.

Yelp
Their salads and sandwiches are the best in Burien, they're fries are cut up in house. It's just the place where the staff are very friendly and respectful to their customers.
google avatar

Manwinder U.

Yelp
I absolutely love Smarty Pants Garage. I've had brunch and lunch here before and am always beyond satisfied and craving more. The Garage Burger and their sauce is sooo good I honestly crave it often, the pancakes were delicious as well and their sourdough sandwiches (BLT) etc were amazing. Everyone loves every meal they get when I bring them here too and they give great surprise beers when we don't know which one we're in the mood for. Will always be back an the service is amazing, everyone is so kind!
google avatar

Brittany A.

Yelp
Pretty cool environment with nice hard workers. The food was mediocre. It wouldn't be my first my choice but it wasn't busy on a Saturday morning for breakfast so it's where we went. Our server wasn't extremely attentive. Like we needed refills etc. Food was okay. Nothing to flock to.

Lynn C.

Yelp
One word - INCONSISTENT! That's the best word I can use to describe this place. I'm talking about both the food AND the service - sometimes it's great and other times is straight garbage! It's a bummer because I want like it here but the garbage occurrences are seeming to exceed the great ones. So I guess I'll be looking for another watering hole to visit every week. ‍
google avatar

Bill H.

Yelp
I used to say I would never go back due to the horrible service. But the food was good and I would go back. But no more. After getting my warm beer after 30 minutes... I had to ask waitress where the drinks were and she said, "oh, it's probably waiting on the counter". Then it happened to my friend too... I can't go back. Too many other great places in Burirn with great service!
google avatar

Kurt H.

Yelp
Don't order takeout. We ordered again tonight. A) they didn't have what we ordered so we selected something else. B) chips and salsa and guess what? No Salsa. How do you put chips in a to go order without salsa?again, this is not the first time. Ordered soup with sandwich previously and guess what No soup. We've talked to management many times and we were assured the high schoolers packing the orders would verify what was packed. Guess what, NOT. Just go in if you want to maybe get your order correct, but that's not guaranteed either.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
Good stuff, including the willingness to customize for us. This is our standard post-workout place. They have lots of good beers and food, and make my custom salad for me, which I appreciate. Also, the staff are always awesome!
google avatar

Rodrigo C.

Yelp
Simple and great. I loved the Philly sandwich and my wife had the burger. Not a fancy place but very convenient. The music...amazing selection!
google avatar

Cara B.

Yelp
Comfortable place to hang with nice patio, too bad the service is so terrible and food is overpriced and just ok. We've been coming here for a long time and the service has never been great, but lately it's become shockingly, laughably bad. Last night, some girl with platinum blonde hair was the rudest waitress I've ever had in my life. She was condescending, snapped at me multiple times throughout our time there, there were issues with order accuracy, she said and I quote "just give me a break we're busy" even though we were all just hanging, we didn't really care about the wait. We got that they were busy, if she had been a pleasant person we would have been happy! Consensus in our group that always comes here is that it's time to find a new happy hour spot. We will not be returning, it's not worth it to be treated like garbage. There are plenty of other places to go to, so don't waste your time or money here.
google avatar

Brenda H.

Yelp
I thought this place was known for its biker bar vibe and spicy sauced sandwiches. Wrong! They're all about brunch, and have a full menu of their popular sandwiches made into omelets, Benedict's, and breakfast burritos. I used to come here all the time, but after baby, the loud noise made him cranky, so I've been stopping in for takeout. But now that HE is the noisemaker, I feel like we'll be having breakfast here a ton. Most popular brunch dish is the Poblano Benedict, and the Burrito! But the Troublemaker scramble looks delish as well.
google avatar

Elizabeth Z.

Yelp
I've only had the sandwiches and they are delicious! Service can be a little slow but it's worth the wait and servers are very nice!
google avatar

Wennie H.

Yelp
Service was good and quick for dine in. Got the burger and it was okay, a little salty but fine. My friend for the grilled cheese and it was okay too, the avocados spread was a cool addition. Fries were the best part of the meal...so I mean, if you want solid fries, go here, salted, greasy, nothing else you could ask for.
