From pop-up to food truck to Eastside brick-and-mortar, Smash City champions classic simplicity—beef, cheese, onions, pickles, bun. Winner of Charleston City Paper’s 2024 Burger Throwdown, it’s now a reliable daily stop for purists.

Dropped in only because of a recommendation from our friend. Awesome music and the waitress took care of us! 100% recommend. We all had the bacon beer cheese burger! So awesome. Thank you guys!

My wife and I dropped in on our 25th anniversary trip to Charleston. The food was fantastic. She had the Carolina Caviar burger and I had the beer cheese, bacon, and beef smash burger. Joey served us and was SUPER helpful and welcoming. The fries were fantastic too. It is the definition of a dive. Food was ready in about 4 minutes.

Great little smash burgers with the best Martin’s potato rolls! Nice and slim, well seasoned and with Brew City-style batter-dipped fries. The ambience, music, and design is all perfect for a burger joint in this less-traveled part of town. The beer cheese flavor is on point and I recommend going with at least one other person and sharing the classic double, beer bacon burger, and a small fry. You will want to dip those fries in all the leftover beer cheese and the pretzel roll is surprisingly light, no lie! The walls are covered in album covers so there’s also a LOT to look at!

Small local place with a few tables curbside, as well as tables inside and bar seating. Beer and wine available…but no diet soda. Went with a pino noir which was a hefty pour :-) but served chilled :-(. Went with the classic smash burger and added lettuce, tomato, and onion for an extra $1. Served on a fresh Martins roll (which is huge) which was great but totally overpowered the burger. Too much bun for the amount of burger. I got the single…should have a least doubled it. Although my husband did get the double and also thought there was too much bun. And at that point 3 smash burgers on one sandwhich is the equivalent of one regular burger, and kind of defeating the point. Fries were extra and decent. There were a ton of pick up/take out orders when we were there with most people not eating in.

Small and very enjoyable. Not what I was expecting but in a good way. Loved the atmosphere. The service was fast, friendly and the burgers were so good.

These folks serve excellent smash burgers, with the yummy crispy edges. Found them via their food truck and recently visited their restaurant downtown. The restaurant is tucked into a neighborhood which makes it very accessible. Plenty of seating inside as well... highly recommended!

This place is AWESOME! TRULY A HIDDEN GEM. The owner is so nice and laid back.. we arrived after closing time but this super chill guy said 'come on in grab a table" ... he is THAT cool! We love the walls ... they are covered in album covers and we spend the majority of time reminiscing about music and records.. cant wait to go back ♡♡

Really enjoyed the ambiance here, definitely was my jam. Went with the beer. Bacon. Burger which was a double smashburger in beer cheese sauce. It was fantastic! The fries were good, nice and crispy and everything came out super fast, will definitely be back!

Yelp
Our absolute favorite burger place in all of Charleston! The restaurant is vibe is casual, cool retro decor, nice selection of local draught beers (yay!) but the burgers are the true stars- Juicy with the crisp edges on perfectly smashed patties. French fries are the bomb too- every time we have visited they have come directly out of the fryer. Our young grandsons love Smash City Burgers Charleston so much we celebrated with birthday dinners ther ! Staff is neighborhood - friendly and quick with attentive table service - minimal wait time for hot delish food!

Yelp
This food truck came to my place of work. Screensaver ads from my employer alerted me to their coming the previous day with instructions on how to pre-order. This was a novel idea I thought and it worked out reasonably well. Although the text messages at the time of ordering and the time of readiness say nothing about the location, I guess assuming everyone pre-ordering knows where they will be, I still think better clarity is warranted. However, everything I ordered was ready five minutes ahead of schedule. I got an Oklahoman and it was delicious. The onions were fresh and the patties were much juicier than I expected for a three ounce smashed patty. Seasoned decently and a fresh bun to put it all together. I did point out to the chef that I did not see an option to order sides with my burger, so he was kind enough to give me a complementary bag of locally made chips. I would definitely order from them again! Sorry, no pics today.

Yelp
God take out, patties could be a bit bigger and they put too much sauce in the burgers. They weren't bad just slight tweaks and they've be spectacular

Yelp
Smash City has a successful food truck but now they have a brick and mortar downtown! When you walk in the smells of the burgers on the grill permeates the entire restaurant! They have a nice selection of local beers and wines as well as glass bottle sodas. We started with the loaded fries with beer cheese queso, jalapenos, and crispy bacon cover in smash sauce. Delicious! My wife got the Carolina Caviar which has house made pimento cheese, dill pickles, steamed onions, and American cheese on a Martin's roll. The pimento cheese was piled high but didn't make the burger mushy. Tasty every bite! I had the Beer.Bacon.Burger.A double smash burger, American cheese, and pickles served on a pretzel roll. The burger is then cut in half and placed cut side down in a bowl filled with beer cheese and bacon. You scoop up the beer cheese mixture with the burger and ascend into cheese heaven. It was flat out amazing! A unique taste experience that will have you coming back for more! They use Doordash and Ubereats as well! make it a point to try this place!

Yelp
Came to this event courtesy of Yelp squad ! Their food truck is cute ! The service was great. The burger was smashed to perfection. Good amount of onion pickles and sauce. Carolina reaper chips are great if you enjoy a little kick. I will return in the future

Yelp
As someone who's always down to try the newest and best burgers in town, I was excited to get to Smash City. On fathers day, I saw that they were out at Freehouse Brewing which has great outdoor picnic table area and beautiful views of the river. Everything on the short menu sounded great, but I was drawn to the Surf and Turf. It was their double patty burger done up the same way, but with the addition of shrimp on top. My friend got the Irish bastard without the slaw which was a single patty, but also had a slice of corned beef and was served on a pretzel but instead of a potato roll. I do wish they had something more creative for sides. I know many of the trucks don't do fries cause it's a P.I.T.A. on the truck and they like to keep it simple, but something more exciting than chips would be great. I will say the chips were local kettle chip with fun flavors and the spicy pimento cheese and fried pickle flavors were tasty. I'm gonna get my only other gripe out of the way right now and it's that my friends burger came with chips and mine did not. The prices are already steep so to pay $15 for a burger and then $3 for chips and another $3 for a soda plus tax and tip, my meal got pretty pricey. A burger at a high end steak house on King street is $16 and even that comes with fries. Now back to the burger... it was excellent. For smash burgers I would say it's definitely in the top five in town. It has a nice crunch on the edges, and the seasoning is just right. I really enjoyed their sauce and keeping it simple with just onions and cheese. Honestly, I liked it so much I thought about getting another to go. I then recalled a special they had on the board which was a fried bologna sandwich with cheese, pickles, and jalapenos. I knew I had to try the burger, but that box has been checked so I got the bologna to go and ate it later that evening (no judgement please). It was so damn good too. I don't know if I can recommend it over the burger, but if you've had the burger, this is a great backup. Definitely track down this truck if you're a burger fan and I'll be back for sure.

Yelp
Food truck that makes the rounds. We walked down to the central neighborhood location and ordered two burgers. High praise for offering gluten free buns!!! I love smash burgers so use this review accordingly. Our order was the Oklahoman and the Carolina Caviar. The Oklahoman was a perfect blend of beef, topping and bun. I love the potato bun on the standard burger. I did wish they had a course grain mustard over the table yellow mustard. The Carolina Caviar was on the gluten free bun. more toppings may have offset the drier bun. Overall still a good smash burger. The service at the truck was fast and friendly. I love that they rotate u to area neighborhoods as well!

Yelp
I know the pic doesn't do justice, however their burgers are legit smash burgers. I had the Single Smash which has cheese, onions, pickles, and sauce on very soft bun. (The pic definitely doesn't do justice) The burger was thin and crispy, yet not dried out! I definitely would get a double next time cause I didn't want it to end. I'm not too much of a chip person but they also sell local kettle chips!

Yelp
Best smash burger in Charleston, trust!! Actually crispy and they can get your order out in less than 5 minutes. I recommend the double!

Yelp
The best smash burger in the Charleston area! They do everything right- soft bun, gooey melted cheese, crisp patties, and just the right amount of sauce. Go to smash city burgers now! The service is excellent. They are working hard in that hot food truck but they are so friendly and helpful.

Yelp
Delicious food truck! Fair prices and short wait. I'd love for them to have fries one day!

Yelp
One of the best burgers in charleston! Perfectly cooked every time. Service is always great and the food comes out quickly!

Yelp
Such a quick and easy dinner! Service was efficient and there was a variety of unique flavored chips to pair with the burgers! My single smash was loaded with flavor, but I would recommend getting the double at minimum so it would be more filling!

Yelp
Tonight Smash City was at the Factory at Darco in Park Circle and I was ready for my first smash burger! (I know, I know, I've been living under a rock but my preference is a thick prime burger patty from the butcher.) But I will say, the flavor combo of the sauce, pickles, onions, soft bun, and double burger patties oozing with cheese was delightful. Something about those pickles!

Yelp
One of the best smash burgers I ever had! Crispy and meaty deliciousness! Love the secret sauce and pickles! great personality behind the grill as well! Go get smashed

Yelp
Best smash burgers in town. I make my own smash burgers at home and try to make them exactly like his. I come close but these burgers are top tier.

Yelp
Fantastic - perfect char on the smash burger. Excellent sauce, cheese, condiments and a bun that held up to it all. My only complaint is that I didn't order a double or a triple! Competes with some of the best burgers in town and that's not easy!

Kathy C.

Yelp
Delicious burgers and great customer service. The smash burgers have a crispy edge and the secret sauce was awesome. Some pickles, cheese and onions makes the burgers original and delicious. Will get smashed again, yummy food.

Yelp
Awesome smash burgers!!!! Best in the area. I follow them on instagram so I know where to find the truck

Briona K.

Yelp
Double burger is a 10/10. The service was great; they were very patient & I like that they use little buzzers so I knew exactly when my order was ready I loved it & will definitely order from the truck again when I see they're in my area.

Yelp
Smash City Burgers is the best! I manage apartments and I appreciate working with a reliable truck with great food! We are always happy to have them out to our property, but not as happy as our hungry residents!

Lauren C.

Yelp
I coordinate the food trucks for my neighborhood and of all the food trucks we have had in our neighborhood the feedback and turnout for Smash City Burgers was the best. Delicious burgers, great service, you will not be disappointed!!!
