Smashburger

Smashing delicious. We were greeted when we entered. This was our first time visiting, so we were studying the menu. The cashier was patient with us. Thank you, Josh. We found seats and a few minutes our food arrived, nice and hot. The burgers were seasoned very well, but the 🌟 of the show for me was the SWEET POTATO WAFFLE FRIES.....Good to me!! My favorite. I did not read the reviews til now. I'm not sure why the bad reviews. For the staff, keep up the good work and thank you. We will return.

Amazing service and food! The lady that took my order was very helpful in what to recommend being as it was my first time eating there. Very clean and welcoming atmosphere! They welcome you as soon as you go inside! Very quick to serve the food! I will most definitely be dining here again!!!

The food here was amazing! I had a chili cheese hotdog and it was soo good! The Cheese sauce was flavorful and delicious. The Oreo milkshake was one of the best ones I’ve ever had and the fries were crispy and fresh with a great flavor. Customer service was amazing and friendly! I will definitely be back again.

I was hesitant to try this place based on reviews. We ordered through doordash so the delivery time may have impacted the quality of the food. We ordered the All American and Classic double smash burgers. Both were very good, although salty. I'm curious if it is in fact salt added to the burger or another seasoning that is lower in sodium. I'd frequent the place more if the latter were true. I was not impressed with the cheese fries. The amount of cheese was negligible and personally, I'd prefer it be on the side. The regular fries (that are seasoned some sort of way) were very good in flavor but I'd prefer them be cooked a little longer. Thats just my preference. This could also just be a result of having it delivered to me. Perhaps they have more crisp in house.

This was my first time at Smash Burger and I was looking forward to getting a really good burger. The cashier was friendly, but the rest of the experience wasn’t all that great. I waited 15 minutes for my food. The burger was incredibly salty and the edges were burnt. The fries were cold. I have to say I’m disappointed. It was not worth the $18 (which included a fountain drink)

The NEGATIVE REVIEWS are REAL!! If you're trying to get CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE this is the place for you! This is the closest location to my house and I keep going back because I hope they'll get it right and my child likes smash burgers. My mistake. 99%of the time I have an issue with my order. Today's mistake: a Double All American plain (bun, meat, cheese only, with toppings on the side) with Smash tots. In the app, there is no "On the Side" option so I called it in after I placed my order in the app. First, they forgot the pickles. Then, the burgers were SO SALTY that it was INEDIBLE! And as usual, the tots are not drained properly so they are ALWAYS sitting in a PUDDLE of grease by the time I get home. EXTREMELY GREASY! You'll clog your arteries by just looking at them! (Grease in photos are from just those THREE tots after I changed the napkins they are sitting on TWICE!) Finally, the staff. They just honestly don't care, nor do they try to even hide it. I've given this place one too many chances! Don't waste your money! Go elsewhere!

This place is full of nice staff who are very open and honest even if the circumstances are a bit hazy they come threw as a team. The restaurant inside looks wonderful and kept nice and clean. The atmosphere is always nice and populated and not a ghost town like some places. And it plays good indie music instead of the pop music that floods other stores making them robotic to be in.

My smash burger was pink, and my smash fries were disgustingly greasy. I literally ruined my whole meal trying to to heat the food to a proper temperature, which I wouldn’t have had to do had the food just been cooked right the first time. You’re better off getting Wendy’s, service is just as quick, they cooked their meat all the way through, and it’s no where near as expensive.

First time visiting Smashburger and I have to say they make a really good burger. They don't have combo meals so everything must be ordered separately, which can boost your bill up quickly since most of their burgers are around $10. They do have a couple of basic burgers at $6. It's self serve at the front counter, but they bring the food to your table. Self serve drink station also; not a lot of options on drinks. Nice inside with several tables. Plenty of parking outside.

We haven't been here in a very long time maybe because we no longer live in Chesapeake we live in Norfolk now I had a doctors appointment and my daughter didn't go with me this time, but I told her what side of town I was going to be on so she said hey mom let's try smash burgers since we had eaten there in a while. She text me your order since I'm eating a little healthier. Now I asked the young lady behind the counter, did they do a low-carb burger? She explained to me yes we do a burger wrapped in lettuce, lettuce on the bottom lettuce on the top. I said sure what comes in between the lettuce. She explained to me it's built just like a burger listed all the options in the middle I opted no pickles sauce, mustard everything in the middle onions tomatoes even their sauce said yes to everything but the pickles they bag everything up. I go home back to North Hook. I get home unboxed my everything including my brussels sprouts lo and behold. I open my burger. It looks like a salad. I'm like are you serious? I was so disappointed, but I gave it to good old college try I cut it up. I go to eat and there's nothing in my salad but onions and tomatoes and lettuce and meat. There's no sauce. There's no nothing but burger juice and a very minimal amount of burger to say the least I was so disappointed I will not be going back to Smashburger for a very long time again as I was highly disappointed I don't know where the quality standard was lowered, but I'm very disappointed. My daughter even said yes, the quality of Smashburger has diminished greatly so Smashburger y'all need to get y'all shit together disappointed

I wish Chesapeake had better burger places, but Smashburger is the closest thing to Shake Shack. So, we cave for it every now and again. The service is absolutely terrible; they are slow, there are always new workers, and never a manager on site. The food is greasy and the burgers are consistently overdone. The fries are wimpy and the tater tots just drip with grease. I think I've just written a review that convinces me to drive all the way to Shake Shack from now on.

Doing a burger comparison today and wanted to compare smashburger and Freddie's... Order the Classic Smash with the scorching hot fries... The burger was great, juicy, and nicely flavored. All the ingredients were fresh and the quality of the burger was on top compared to other fat good burgers. I love the fries here because they are the skinny fries which ensures that are crispy.. tried the Scorching hot this time and to honest was not too impressed.. it was an oily sauce that didn't have much flavor and was between mild and medium on the heat scale.. The best spicy fries that Smashburger had was the ones they had in Houston texas a few years ago.. the fries were coated with a dry salty seasoning which really made the fries pop out, when compared to the oily ones they have now.... Back to my burger match.. Smashburger clearly wins when it comes to the burger itself.... Compared to the plain dry burger I had at Freddy's. Highly recommend if you are looking for a juicy burger and you want something a little better than the standard fast food places like Wendy's, McDonald's, Burger King, etc ...

It's a fast food cozy place with amazing tasting burgers. Everyone should try it. Especially if you're in the mood to not make your own.

Slowest service ever! Very short staffed over the weekend & right now for Lunch on a week day!! There's no manager here to help the girl at the front who's new/second shift...they need to be prepared for a lunch rush & saw several people walk out so they definitely are losing business!!

The staff was very rude and unprofessional, the sides are swimming in grease. I ordered the fried Brusselssprouts and the container wasn't full and a puddle of greese was in the bottom of the to go container. Everything is over priced and the restaurant is dirty. The trash was over flowing, the tables were dirty and the floors where greasy. The staff obviously just doesn't care. This was not rush hour and if so I dont understand why 2 of the female employees were very busy texting on there cell phones and treating the customers like they were bothering them. It was like they forgot they were at work. Won't go back.

The food have it there one time the food taste pretty well as you know so next time I might try something different but what I had at that time was pretty well so I recommend this to somebody that like that type of food smash burgers and they were tasty so have a good day.

Expensive burgers but the sauce is pretty good. Had to eat outside because there was no place to sit but thankfully it was nice any way love the ambiance.

Service was not great. The attitude of the cashier was dismissive. The dining area still had trays from previous customers and no attempt was made to clean the area during my 20 minute wait.

Amazing place with incredible bartenders. Ask for SYDNEI!!!! SHE IS THE BEST..Great food and great atmosphere.

Would love to give this place an actual review but came in today and the staff told me they weren't taking orders.

So I ordered take out via Postmates - the food for 4 was about $65- order was not processed as requested - the kids burger was too hard to eat - onion straws were salty - all the food was in one bag smashed together the kids food wasn't in their own bag. We were missing extra sauce, an order of fries and the milk shake. The presentation of the food was not good for $65 worth of food. My burger was greasy and burger was dry. I had smash burger for the first time in California it was amazing the atmosphere was beautiful and I've been trying to recreate that again this missed the mark.

Prices are ridiculous. We got a double, a single, one order of tots and two drinks and it cost $35.22 before tip. That is insane! Is this stuff made from Kobe beef? Super greasy burger. Tots way overcooked. Coca-Cola was not good. Check the picture to see the burger I was served. See the tomato on my burger and it was swimming in mayonnaise. It gave me heartburn. We won't be back again.

The food was satisfactory, nothing that would make me wanna run there or anything special, but good. The staff were helpful when we ordered.

I walked in and was excited to try their signature burger the S'Mac and Cheeseburger. They said "we aren't serving that " My husband went and ordered his burger and got the same answer. The staff member taking my order was distracted and was looking behind us the whole time which was uncomfortable. We finally picked something they had , phew! I got the mushroom Swiss burger and garlic tots, onion rings and wings . Burger was good, yummy sauce on that Swiss burger. Onion rings are that super thin type which I loved ! Facilities were not clean , the entrance and outdoor patio was covered in garbage, trash can was overflowing inside. Very disappointed in my experience at Smashburger.

I've been to this location a few times, and this is for my most recent visit. I ordered the S'mac n cheese double smash burger with smash fries, which totalled $17 after tax. The food didn't come out super fast but also wasn't too long - approximately 10 minute wait with 2 orders ahead of me. The burger itself was good. The char from a smash patty just gives it the best texture and flavor compared to other burger places imo. My problem this time was the smash fries. I know it gets tossed in olive oil and herbs, but my fries were absolutely soaked and not crispy. It was just too oily. Another issue that I've encountered multiple times at this location was the shortage of trash cans. I only saw the small one built into the soda machine counter.

The store was very dirty and the workers weren't doing anything to make it cleaner it made me not want to eat there

Food was good. Ashley was lovely and recommended the classic chicken smash which I enjoyed, as it was my first time. Food came out hot and fast. Quiet dinning area. Would repeat.

I went one time when they first opened. I have not been back. The burger was over cooked and not juicy. A burger needs to be juicy not greasy. I don't remember what fries were like. You can go to Yard House and get the best 1/2 lb burger and fries for $14,99. Also, they will substitute the fries for a huge regular salad or Caesar Salad. No mess to clean up and service is always top notch. And these places where you order always want a tip even though you are walking up to the Counter and getting it yourself(self serve). Go out to Yardhouse and get a real burger.

Mooyah was our go-to place, but since they have closed locations, we decided to try Smashburger (we don't bother with 5-Guys anymore, we'd go to Wendy's first). Anyway, I was surprised how good my burger was, not the best I've ever had, but I'd give it an 7.5/10. The fries were ok, maybe 6/10. However, the worst thing was the gluten free bun. DON'T ORDER IT! I literally couldn't eat mine, every time I picked up my burger it fell apart, plus it was completely tasteless. So next time I'll get mine in a lettuce wrap. The manager was nice enough to come around and ask if things were ok and we got a $5 coupon for our next visit.

Burger was absolutely delicious...I took my grandson and he can't stop talking about it.

Epic fail!! Oh my, how can you screw up Brussel Sprouts! Being a vegan, I opted for JUST the Brussel sprouts as my meal. My husband got a burger and rosemary/garlic fries. I don't even want to waste my review on his meal...check out my pics. There was so much grease IN the fried Brussel sprouts, it soaked through the brown bag, all the napkins in the bag, and pooled on the table!! As much as I wanted to eat them, the thought of spooning tablespoon upon tablespoon of canola oil in my mouth sickened me. Epic, epic fail.

Not the first time I've had a problem with this store, thought I'd give them the benefit of the doubt and try it a few more times. Food took over an hour and all I ordered was a burger and tots. Staff could care less that everyone was standing waiting for their food. I would expect some mind blowing experience for that long of a wait, but it was just a typical burger. Wendy's could compete. Surely once my order was ready we at least get a "sorry for the wait", but no. Not worth the time or money, you'll only leave pissed off.

SmashBurger or TrashBurger? First impressions last forever. Two burgers and two sides will cost you a pretty penny. Size vs price DO NOT MATCH. I am in utter shock to be honest. The smash tots and fries have a delicious flavor. The rosemary, garlic, and olive oil compliments the tots the best. No complaints there. The burgers are the issues. They are tiny. McDonald's size patties. Thin and dry. No flavor. No juice. Dead and boring. The bun is okay. That one little burger will cost you $5.39. Want to add some shoestring onions? That'll be another $1.29. So in total one burger can cost you $6.68 and you don't get a drink or side with that price. $3.59 is the price for a regular size tots or fries with the SmashBurger seasoning. I have no idea what this company is thinking charging these insane prices. Don't let those Instagram photos fool you!! Virginia Beach alone has many better options for a GOOD burger. So disappointed.

This is a great, low key burger spot. They have plenty of protein (like grilled or fried chicken, turkey or beef burgers or black bean) and topping options and great side options. My personal favorite is the brussel sprouts! The dessert menu is full of delicious milkshakes with classic and seasonal flavors. The wait is not too long and they have dining or takeout. My only issue is sometimes the people working at the cash register are a bit rude but the food itself is yummy.

Save time and money, JUST GO TO COOK OUT! I learned this Sunday after our 1st and likely last SmashBurger visit revealed overhyped "fast" food quality with bad service at 2x price and wait. There was no line but also no greeting or offer to assist from register employee. "Hey it's our first time." *crickets*. "What comes on the KidSmash," she replies "what normally comes on a burger." Um, as the PAYING CUSTOMER made to feel bad for asking questions, like being there is an inconvenience, my first instinct is "bye Felicia." I relented bc it was Sunday ("WWJD") and I didn't have loaves/fish to multiply... 2 kid's meals ($6 ea) + 3 regular smash combos ($9 ea, 2 w/ shake upgrades) totaled $53! Dang. Food arrived in waves. Kids finished their meals before shakes came. Burgers were warm but nothing to write home about. Shoestring fries weren't bad. I was overcharged for Brussel sprouts which had a nice char but were very salty. Shared parking lot, signage, easily navigable store entry and restrooms were all fine BUT food quality/portions don't merit price-point.

Every website said that they were open today. Come to find out once I get there that they are closed with a little piece of paper on the door. Ran into a lady there that put in an online order who now couldn't get her food.

Got the truffle mushroom burger with smash tots. Honestly Id rather go for the regular tots cause the seasoning on the smash tots was a bit too much for me. I also got the peanut butter shake which was super yummy! They also have a reward system if you find yourself going here often

I absolutely love this place. I have been a few times, but I just got take out for dinner and it is so good. I love how consistent they are. I get the regular smash burger with no ketchup or onions with fries. A solid choice in my opinion. They are super quick and not too expensive. Definitely recommend. It is also nice to eat at. They bring the food to your table. They have a place inside or outside.

We went during lunchtime on a Thursday. It was not crowded. We ordered a single caramelized onions smash and classic double smash with smashed tots. Everything was delicious. You really need a double though. The single was good but needed more meat. The tots were cooked perfectly. Soft & moist on the inside crispy on the outside. The smashed tots come with garlic rosemary & olive oil on them. yummy! I could have used more in my container. I also had an Oreo shake. The shake was not made well. Too much Oreo cookies not enough ice cream so it was ALOT of cookies at the bottom & the straw kept getting clogged with cookies. They could of gotten 5 stars but the tables weren't clean in the dining room. Also the ladies room could of used a good sweeping. But my husband said the mens room was clean. Food was great. Take it home & enjoy.

If you're looking for a decent burger and fries out side of a place like Five Guys I'd recommend Smashburger. The burgers are cooked well, and the fries are nicely seasoned. I ordered a double smashburger and almost couldn't finish it because I didn't expect it to be so much. It was juicy and flavorful while my side of tots were perfectly salted. I believe the food is reasonably priced, so expect to pay anywhere from $30+ for 2 people if you order a full combo.

This place was recommended by my older brother. He talked this place up, so we had high expectations. We enter the establishment and the cashiers look like they don't want to be here. LeAnn was pretty unpleasant. She blank stares at me and never gave me a greeting, so I say hello and start awkwardly ordering. When I offer her my card to pay, she just points to the computer where I swipe it myself. Ohhhkay. I did a craft your own burger, which isn't terrible, but I did pay extra for the cheese and bacon. I also order their coffee shake to share. My husband and younger brother were simple and both got the Triple Double burgers. I was feeling really annoyed after my experience with LeAnn, but then came Gage. He was friendly, polite, and helpful. He was the one who brought out the shake first and gave us the extra. He was also the one who brought out our food and made sure we were good to go before leaving. He even *gasp* smiled. When we started eating, the only weird thing was when I went to bite my beef burger, it smelt like I was eating a hotdog. I rarely ask my husband if he wants a bite of my food, but it was too bizarre not to share lol. In any case, the food wasn't baaad, but I'm disappointed my brother hyped it up so much. I felt like it was a regular ole burger with some fries.

Love the burgers, always disappointed with the tots, the large box is never filled. Just order fries.

Okay, is there something I'm missing in regards to SmashBurger? I've heard people rave about them, but after my first visit I wasn't blown away. Their concept is similar to Five Guys and Mooyah, but if forced to rank them SmashBurger would place third amongst them. At this point when I come across a burger joint I haven't tried before I tend to think big. Appetites across the country are hearty and burger joints not only have to push out tasty food but also go big with the portions. So what I had in mind for SmashBurger lined up with Five Guys and Mooyah. The reality, though, didn't meet my expectation, at least not when it comes to size. For nearly $14 I was given 6 oz. burger, fries and a fountain drink. That's pretty expensive considering the burger is just over 1/3 lb. And 6 oz. is their large! I found that to be disappointing, but I still have to try their food. The wait for my food took a bit, and my friend and I noticed some of the patrons were waiting a long time, too (we came in right as the dinner rush began). One family was visibly upset, and the dad had to resort to walking to the counter with his receipt and table number stand to get his food. As for me, I dined with a buddy but our food didn't arrive at the same time. Mine showed up first, and at first glance my truffle mushroom swiss looked awesome. But alas, there was a glitch. I noticed, laying oh so comfortably on the top bun, a "nice" thick black hair which must've fallen from the scalp of the person who delivered my food. My buddy noticed it, too - it was just chillin'. Nope! Not touching that jank! But dammit, I forgot to take a pic of it! I took my order back to the register and I had to wait a little because the girl at the register was taking a customer's order. She was observant enough to get the expo person's attention for me, and when I showed her the burger she quickly told me she'd replace it. To be honest, that situation was handled well, but the interesting thing is TWO replacement burgers showed up! The first runner came with only a burger, and after he said it was the replacement I thanked him and asked if my fries were coming soon. He said, "Yes," I was cool with that and decided to wait. My buddy's order arrived, then after that another employee showed up with my fries - but another burger was with them! I gave her a puzzled look and gestured to her to go ahead and take one of the burgers back, but she shrugged her shoulders and said, "Eh, don't worry about it." Two burgers for the price of one works for me, but that situation informed me that communication is lacking. It's either that or they have a policy of replacing bad food with two good ones! Finally, I try my burger and admittedly it's tasty. Truffles in anything is delicious and it worked very well with the crimini mushrooms and swiss cheese. The egg bun is a nice touch, too, so taste gets high scores from me. Although my experience wasn't as memorable (i.e., calamitous) as Maria G.'s, I think my visit lines up best with Joe D.'s, Gabriel D.'s and Xerxes N.'s. This location's staff has some growing pains to overcome, and they'll work it out in time. The big worry is whether or not diners will wait around for them to get organized. But ultimately they cannot control the size of their food. And since I believe their price points aren't justified, they're going to have a difficult time competing with other upscale-casual burger joints. JV

The burger patty itself was decent, the lack of attention to complete an order by staff was not. I ordered the Classic Burger with no sauce. They forgot the tomato and onion. Also ordered Scorchin' Wings. They came out with no sauce on them! Avoid this place.

Really glad they finally opened one down here, so close to home too! However, I wish there was more parking, that location is such a busy area. They burgers are always delicious. We love the twin cities burger and the old dominion burger. I love that they have so many add on toppings available as well! Their smash fries are better good. But they literally give you less than a handful. For the amount you're paying, which is premium (15-20 for a meal), you'd think they wouldn't skimp out on the fries so much. Been here about five times since they opened. The burgers are good enough to keep me coming back. But they need to kick it up a notch if they have customers paying this much. Gimme more fries! The workers there are really nice, especially the ones that run out the food and check on your meal. 5/5 for them! The associates at the register could use a smile once in awhile though.

The only good thing here were the shoe string onion rings. The kids tenders for greasy and the hamburger must have been stuck to a dirty grill. And I have no idea what I bit into but it was hard and nearly broke my tooth. And why would you have pictures of cookie if you don't sell them.

I was excited. I visited my first Smashburger in California. It was great so I was looking forward to eating here. We ordered a double decker cheeseburger combo and a chicken avocado club blt combo. Our total was around 22 dollars. We were greeted by a nice cashier who made us feel great aboit stopping in. The restaurant was decorated to appeal to a burger lover seeking more than McDs. The dining area staff checked in with us frequently that was nice. The restaurant was clean. The food was so basic. The double burger was tasteless. The presentation was better than the actual food. Cute mear without a hint of flavor. The smash mouth fries were good. Straight, skinny and slightly overcooked potatoes. The chicken avocado blt club featured a twice cooked breast with burnt edges, the av]I] ocado pieces had brownish lines running through it and it was lumped onto one side of the sandwich, and the bacon was burnt. Bummer!

I had seen a video online about smashed burgers, so I decided to try this chain. The only one is at Greenbriar in the old Starbucks location. The first thing I noticed walking in was a paper sign about salads not being available due to e-coli. Ew, but thanks for letting know before asking for one. There was a paper menu on the register that didn't have prices, and 2 of the 4 menu screens were out, where the prices were. This was kind of frustrating but the staff said they could look up how much stuff was. I eventually ordered a single cheeseburger with fries and a drink. It was $10.47. I sat down and found many of the tables had ragged napkins stuck under the legs. My table was not wobbly, but the people next to me struggled with a wobbly one. The other table had eaten food on it. Evidently you don't throw your trash away, there's no trash cans except a tiny hole by the drink fountain. Staff is supposed to come by and bus the table. They need to remember to clean the seats, the booth had fries stuck on them. My food arrived pretty fast, right at 6 minutes. The fries were good, if a bit like McDonald's. The burger was tolerable, it didn't taste like much. They were generous with the toppings but that didn't save a bland burger. The tray came out to me sloppy, this mayo/mustard stuff they put on the bun was smeared on top the bun, the fry container, and the tray. Unfortunately Smashburger didn't have anything to stand out. I've got no intention of trying it again.

Maybe, I'd give this place 3.5 stars. You'll know you'll see some sleek minimalistic modern designs when you enter just from seeing the SmashBurger sign in front of the establishment. Upon entering, you go up to the counter order your meal then find a seat and the staff will bring you your meal. My friend who was with me labelled this place "high class fast food". I ordered the single bacon smash with smash tots and my friend ordered the kids meal burger and fries. She like the taste of her cheeseburger and liked the fries. The bacon smash is delicious. It's a good, solid burger. My only complaint is that for $6 I'd like a heftier burger like some of the other burger joints offer. The smash tots were good and greasy. The tots are made with rosemary, garlic, and olive oil. While eating, a staff member came up and asked how the food was-nice touch. I didn't observe any trash cans in the dining area, so when you dine here leave your waste on the table. The staff will come to dispose of it.

So this was my first time even trying Smashburger, and it was very disappointing... I ordered the "Spicy Baja With Guac Burger" and was informed that they were out of guacamole, but they offered avocado as a substitute. This would have been fine until I received my order and saw the receipt attached to the bag, noticing they charged me extra for the avocado they used to cover for the missing guacamole. That, combined with the fact that the food here is barely on par with places like McDonald's and Wendy's guarantees that I will not be coming back. Also, they have signs all over indicating that masks are mandatory unless you're seated at a table, but this is not being enforced at all, as I watched quite a few maskless fools walk up to the counter and place orders, despite the MASKS REQUIRED sign right in front of their idiot faces.

Finally tried Smash Burger today. When i walked in i was promptly greeted by the staff. The lady at the register was nice and answered all my questions. The store and restrooms were clean. I ordered a single burger and smash fries. Everything cost $10. The sides are kinda high priced. The fries were good but I'd prefer a larger portion. $4 for fries is hard to swallow. But i did enjoy my burger. It was pretty average. But I'd return to try other items on the menu. The brussel sprouts looked good so I'll get those next time. All in all it was a decent experience. They're customer service is why i gave 4 stars...

We decided to come here for lunch on a Saturday. I won't lie, the reason why I haven't yet been here was because of all the bad reviews I saw on Yelp. I DID take into account how new the business was, so I just put them on hold. They weren't really busy. There was no line, the man at the counter was very helpful with telling us what was on the menu. He was also very patient since I was asking lots of questions. We ended up ordering a kids cheeseburger meal with a drink. It came with fries. I ordered a single patty smashburger with sauce, lettuce and tomato. I substituted pepper Jack instead of American cheese. Hubby ordered a truffle mushroom burger with onion hay stacks. Our food was brought to us (by the same man) in bags. Take out bags are now because of post Covid. Everything was good. The fries were seasoned with olive oil and Parmesan cheese. The burger was tasty. The hay stacks were delicious dipped in the ranch that came with it. We all thought it was pretty good. Customer service was great! Truth is: food was good but nothing spectacular. The customer service we received would be the reason why I would come back.

The most conflicting experience I've ever had with a restaurant. We got there an hour before closing. We ordered, got our drinks, and sat down. We kept waiting for our name to be called and thought we heard it at one point but another guy got the food so we just thought we had heard wrong. Several minutes later that same guy comes back and tells the girl at the counter he grabbed the wrong order. That order turned out to be ours. The girl sits the bags on the back counter without communicating what has happened to anyone. After several minutes another girl comes and asks what the bags are and the first girl tells her the order needs to be remade. Finally she gives the ticket back to the kitchen to remake the order. None of this is communicated to me or the person I'm with. I only know because I watched the entire thing happen. We wait and wait until about 15 mins til closing and finally get our food. The person I'm with goes to refill their drink before we go but uh oh! - the drink machine isn't working. My friend goes to tell the girl behind the counter and she can't be bothered to take out her Airpods, just keeps saying "huh? what?". Turns out they've already shut off the drink machine and it's not even closing yet. My friend says they were given attitude for asking about it from the other girl that was back there and when he asked to speak to a manager he was told "they're too busy right now". As someone who has works in customer service, I know that's not an excuse. We left with a really awful impression of the place, and I did not have high hopes for the food. Then we got home and ate our food and omg, it was so damn good, probably the best burger and tater tots I've had in Chesapeake, if not ever, so fresh and just delicious. Because of that, I will definitely be giving Smashburger another chance. I'm hoping maybe the service will be better earlier in the day not so close to closing. TL;DR: 5-star food, 1-star service.

My SO and I were in the area and looking for a burger. Neither of us had tried SmashBurger before so thought we would give it a shot! Ordering was pretty fast. We walked up, ordered, paid, and waited for our food to be brought to our table. Our burger and fries came out, but we were almost done eating and still no milkshake. Had to inquire about it and turns out they had completely forgotten. The burger itself was really tasty! We split the double bacon cheeseburger with fries and a milkshake. I loved that the burger was super cheesy. Fries were just ok. Why only a 3-star rating (well 3.5 rounded down): it was pretty expensive for what it was. Our total was about $15! Luckily we aren't big eaters--imagine if we each wanted a combo. Depending on the place $15 each would be reasonable, but not worth it here in my opinion. Overall, although we liked the burger, not sure it was enough to keep us coming back.

My first smash experience and meh. It wasn't bad but we're not dying for a repeat visit either. Bacon double cheese with fries and shake cost a pretty penny. Burger was on the small side. Smash fries where pretty good and the shake was delicicious. There are too many better burgers in the world to pay $15 for just an average burger. Clearly some folks love them so it's all about what you love to eat. I can't seem myself going back anytime soon.

My bestie and I wanted a quick bite, so we stopped in. I have never been, so what the heck. We were greeted immediately by James. He was very pleasant and courteous. He also made us laugh, which in these times is important. We ordered brussel sprouts and wings, and both were delicious. Thank you James, for a wonderful first experience. Your customer service is on point!
