I am writing to report an upsetting and unacceptable experience that occurred at your
4709 W Foster Ave, Chicago, IL 60630
on May 16th 2025 around 8:00 pm. What should have been a simple and pleasant visit for a meal turned into a stressful and disrespectful encounter--specifically due to the behavior of the elderly white male manager on duty.
Here's what happened:
I placed an order that included two large fries and three fountain drinks. Before completing the payment, I realized I had ordered too many drinks, so I asked for the three large fountain drinks to be canceled. The original employee who took my order was polite and helpful, but it appeared he wasn't authorized to process the refund or make changes to the order. He called over the manager to assist.
The manager, tall older white man, attempted to make the cancellation before I finished the payment, but he seemed to be struggling with the system. I apologized for the inconvenience and said, "I'm sorry, I didn't know this was this difficult." He quietly mumbled something that sounded like "whatever." At the time, I wasn't completely sure what he said because he spoke under his breath--but his frustration became much more obvious shortly afterward.
After I paid and received the receipt, I noticed that instead of canceling the three drinks, one of my large fries had been canceled instead. I pointed this out and asked for a refund for the three fountain drinks that I never received--and had asked to be removed from the beginning.
Rather than resolving the issue respectfully, the manager responded with an attitude, asking me sarcastically, "Do you want three large drinks to go?" I reiterated that I had never wanted the drinks in the first place and had clearly asked for them to be removed. His tone and demeanor were dismissive and rude.
What made this experience even more frustrating was that the original employee--who remained kind and clearly felt bad for us--ended up giving my mother-in-law $10 out of his own pocket to try and make things right. We greatly appreciated his effort, but we did not think it was appropriate for an employee to have to personally cover the cost of a management mistake. Out of principle, my mother-in-law ( older black lady ) returned the money to him before we left.
As she was leaving, the manager, shouted at her: "Get the f** out of here."* This was shocking, vulgar, and completely inappropriate behavior from anyone--especially a manager.
This kind of treatment is not only unprofessional, it's unacceptable. We were calm, respectful, and simply trying to fix a clear error with our order. We expect to be treated with the same courtesy and professionalism we extended.
