We back to restaurant to get my money back only to learn that since I placed order online I had to wait until the next day when a manager supposed to call me. We will see. The manager in charge was very rude, not helpful at all didn’t even apologize like take some accountability.

OMG!!! I have door dashed here so many times! This was my first time eating here. #SoFire! There was salt and pepper on the fries and the double bacon burger with extra bacon, gave me 9 slices of pork heaven. Great music and welcoming atmosphere. Luis was simply amazing! Gratis amigo!! A little on the spendy side, but worth every bite! I will be back!

crappy employees. They think you should sit here and wait for 47 minutes for an order. we got a lot of orders, rude customer service never will come back to a Smashburger ever again. and the employees were ignoring the people in house, dining area, waiting for their food more concerned about DoorDash orders, and serving the customer.

I have had a terrible holiday; I have been in the hospital twice over Christmas, and we had a death in the family Christmas morning. I just wanted Smash Burger to lift my spirits. I arrived, and the cashier was on her phone and did not even greet me until she finished her text or scrolling or whatever. After, she was nice enough, but distant. My primary concern, however, was as I was waiting for my food, a gentleman came from the back, seeming nice enough, but I watched as he put his right hand, no glove, on the garbage can as he passed it. I saw his fingers on the inside of the bin. He greeted the chef, I believe placing this same hand on her back, and then he placed it on your food counter, drumming his fingers. I watched as your cashier adjusted her earring and ear with her right hand- no glove, as well- and then approach the food counter. I asked to bag my food, myself, as I did not want such touching my food. She did not reply, and I saw as she grabbed the fries with the same 'ear hand,' grabbing the outside and scraping the food with the same hand. I told your staff to keep the food, and requested my money back. I am not trying to be a problem, but these types of things should not happen with food. I hope the cleanliness standards improve.

Clean, nice building, fast service, eat in, carry out and even delivery. Friendly service. Nice option for people who like and eat "fast food."

Friendly service, reliably good food , good location and reasonable prices make this a regular stop for our family. Smash fries are Unforgettable. Cobb salad is the excellant healthy option. Sweet potato fries too!

I remember when Smashburger first opened. I couldn’t stop going and always ate inside. Not much has changed when it comes to the food but I have noticed that the environment to dine in has changed. I mentioned there being outdated photos with the old menu and the cashier got defensive for whatever reason. Anyway, here’s the updated menu for those that plan ahead like myself.

I haven't been to Smashburger in a while, not really sure what caused us to go, but I'm glad we did. The cheeseburger was delicious and the Chili Cheese Dog was even better. I didn't know they had hotdogs on their menu. It was a pleasant surprise, I highly recommend it. We will definitely be eating there more often.

Too bad Smashburger can't smash it out of the park. WHY IN THE WORLD DOES THEIR BEEF PATTY HAVE MILK IN IT???! No one else does that! Even their black bean burger has milk and cheese in it. This does not help customers with dairy or egg intolerances. They can't make a traditional burger traditional at all. The burger choices and menus are huge. Ordered the Avocado Bacon Club and my husband got the triple classic smash. I didn't find out the patty has milk in it till AFTER ordering it. They even have milk shakes. Surprisingly they have a dairy free egg free allergen free ice cream brand called Eclipse they serve there. It was actually a really good shake. I might come here ONLY for the shake. Discretion: they mix it with water. It's so thick...it uses water to blend. Not plant based milk. It definitely turned off other customer reviews. I was ok with it and it tasted really good actually. Overall it was ok. The burger tasted ok but i wasn't wow'd. Restaurant was very quiet for a weekday dinner hour night. No crowds came through the night we visited.

Almost on the verge of tears after spending almost an hour at the DSM rental car counter, I raced to grab food ANYWHERE before every restaurant in Des Moines closed for the night. I made it to Smashburger a little after 9:30pm and ordered Hot Chicken Tenders and Smash Fries at the counter. Unfortunately they don't make shakes after 9:30pm so I was out of luck there. Still got a soda for free because of that, which was sweet of them. Overall the staff members were SO nice, which was refreshing after dealing with a bunch of incompetent agents at DSM. I might have ordered one too many chicken tenders, but it was just what I needed to get my mood back in check.

The walk up and order situation is basic feeling for fast food but this one step above fast food. We ordered the classic cheeseburgers, one a single and one a double. If you like a smash burger then these are pretty standard. The place was clean. The open seating allows you to spread out a bit and be on top of the other customers. Service was fast. They delivered our meals to quickly to our table, marked by number. The price is the lower star. $30 for 2 burgers and fries at lunch time is a bit much. Like I said, pretty standard burger without any flare. No combo prices, it's all à la cart.

Back to try the rosemary garlic chicken wings an American classic.The interior is clean, staff appears upbeat and the food looks and smells delicious. The staff is to be commended for serving such flavorful burgers that are presented with a heaping serving of all the condiments that make this one of the go to spots in West Des Moines.

My boss wanted to hit smashburger up for lunch despite my protest. They used to also forget the onion strings on my burger now it looks like they just took that option away completely. Next time I'm choosing and we are going to b bops!

Smashburger has really great burgers! They are juicy and so delicious. Their truffle Mayo is fantastic! Honestly, the burger exceeded my expectations. It was actually pretty reasonably priced compared to most fast food options these days. Definitely recommend! Get some sweet potato fries too. You won't regret it.

I don't like to give negative reviews, and have pretty simple tastes, but I had smash Burger for the first time today and regret it, the tater tots would have been great if they weren't absolutely coated in black pepper, I have no problem with pepper but this was freaking ridiculous, and they burger- cooked perfect, fresh veggies, but some sauce that I wasn't expecting, that I can still taste hours later, I've been in foodservice 40 yrs and I'm certain the black pepper was not the way they are supposed to be done, as for the sauce, idk I just wish I had known to skip it or get it on the side, if it wasn't for those two things I'd have given it four or five stars

I ordered the double bacon avocado burger with onion rings. I bit into my burger 3/4 complete. I pulled out a raw piece of bacon. I presented to the girl with black hair and glasses. She was so impressed, she through the bacon out and looked at me. She didn't say sorry, anything. Turned around and walked away. The floor drains in the store need to be cleaned with bleach. The drains in the seating area stunk. The floors were dirty with ground food in the carpet. This was my welcome to Iowa.

went in never been to a smash burger waited at the register for about 10 minutes and wasnt sure what to get since I was new I asked what was good and was ignored man up front heavier set guy was bagging food and rubbing his hands all over his face then snorting snot into his nose then rubbing full palm into his face and grabs a burger and fries with the same hand I didn't even order my food I felt disgusted and almost got sick I just left and told them I don't want literally burgers in my burger

Food was good, wish the atmosphere and service was better. +The tots were really good, but that's more a franchise thing. -Ordered two drinks and only got one. -Toilet in the bathroom doesn't work. -No hand soap in the bathroom. -Loud music from the kitchen is annoying.

Love the smash burgers there...cooked just right and always delicious the smash tots are one of my favorites!! You can make the burgers anything u want Dow to mac and cheese brisket!!!!! They get 100 stars from me!!!! Only thing that could make it better is getting it free lol

Take out. Generally, services and consumables seem okay... But if you notice some funny after tastes, many menu items are mixed with certain hack spices or pseudo aids like truffle oils that taint the product (literally make me gag), not like spoiling meat but actually doing precisely that and intentionally sullying their burgers, fries, among other items.If you don't mind fake grills and psuedo skills, or induced vomiting via food poisoning, this hack grub chain is your go to.

I ordered a double smash burger. It was not fully cooked and the bun was tough and chewy. Wasn't a fan of the burger sauce. It seemed like Mayo and mustard mixed together. Most of it went in the trash. Can't eat a partially raw burger. Definitely not worth $10.15 for just a burger.

Although the burgers are smaller than I would like, the have a taste that is superior. Further, the haystack onions are amazing. The rosemary fries and tater tots are also well above par. Service was fast and friendly.

Pretty pricey for what you get and the food is nothing exceptional. I ordered a crispy chicken sandwich w/pepperjack cheese, bacon, and ranch. The ranch was served on the side and tasted very cheap. Kraft bottled dressing cheap. Thick and flavorless. The chicken itself was very stringy and pulled apart when you tried to bite into it. The bun was about the only highlight--toasted well and even flavor throughout. Smash fries are very boring...the garlic and rosemary add very little to fries comparable to Burger King. Service was friendly, no complaints with that. Hopefully the employees can find a better job elsewhere.

We love a good burger and we appreciate great timely service. We ordered delivery and not only did it arrive well before the estimated time it was all correct! I know that shouldn't have to be praised but in the delivery game out here, that seems to be some kind of miracle. Our delivery driver, Stephanie, texted us to let us know our food was outside our door. She did a great job and after I texted "Thank you" she replied with "You're Welcome." Also, something many contactless delivery drivers don't frequently do. The food was delicious, hot, and I'm glad we can know that every time we are in the area we can rely on one great burger.

Ok,I'm going to breakdown and write a review of a place I frequent more often than I should admit. Hands down the best burger in Des Moines and probably a lot of other cities I frequent. Order the Egg bun, it's the best. Brussel sprouts at a burger joint?! Yes, they are fantastic. Crispy chicken avocado sandwich on an egg bun. Leveled it. Perfect every time I love this place

Fantastic franchise ran by a owner that cares!!! They are always open the hours posted on the window (This is rare in Iowa). The food is consistent and they never cheat you our of food like most Iowa places! We need 3 more of these places!!!

I feel like a total Karen penning this. Raised their prices since I've been a few months ago. I'm sure we'll see more of this with the effects of COVID but disappointed to spend $30 on a burger, shake, small chicken sandwich and a side especially with mediocre service. We decided to carry out after the tables didn't seem very clean. Update: just changed my 3-star review to a 2. Once unwrapped, we found a super fatty, half-grissel piece of chicken breast with two pieces of bacon fat, Romain lettuce heart and a crumbly bun. It was too ugly to even take a pic and almost inedible. The upcharge for chicken breast and bun made it a $10. RIP to my relationship with Smashburger ... le sigh. One of my faves. Disappointing.

Amazing is all I can say!! The Smashfries are a MUST. I had the jalapeno baja burger and it was delish. So fresh and yummy. A must try for sure.

Smashburger is located in a non-descript strip mall. They have an interesting selection of burgers, with one special "local" burger as well. The Iowa Burger has blue cheese, bacon, haystack onions, lettuce tomato and mayo on an egg bun. I'm not a fan of blue cheese but it's good without it. I usually order the BBQ, Bacon and Cheddar Burger but have tried the Spicy Jalapeño Baja. I always enjoy the SmashFries. They're coated in olive oil with rosemary and garlic. I make similar ones at home. The location is small but seldom full. You can order take out from the website as well. When I'm hungry for a better burger than I'd find in fast food shops, this is one of my go to places!

I ordered 3 things - a shake, fries, and onion rings. The fries and onion rings were both SOAKED in grease, soggy, and overall inedible. The shake was definitely not worth the price for the size and overall quality.

First time trying this place and the smell brought me in as I drove past. Ordered the smash single and smash fries. The burger had great flavor and came out quick. The fries have good herb flavor but were pretty salty for my taste. Better then your average fast food place but wouldn't say it's a gourmet burger. Would eat here again for sure but might try the regular fries next time.

My order was incorrect... it ok, it happens, but at the end of the day, I should have gone to McDonalds... I know that's sad to say, but this was the absolute worst overcooked, poorly comprised and oddly tasted burger I've ever had... Try at your own risk

Never been (for shame) and I'm sad I waited so long. My Spicy Jalapeño Baja burger was excellent! 1) when a fresh jalapeño is advertised (in picture) then comes as a pickled jalapeño, my annoyance level is already spiked one notch. Don't do that. This place served a fresh jalapeño on my burger so award goes to that! 2) when something says Baja and doesn't have avocado, that's two notches of annoyance. There is no definition of "Baja" but come on, there has to be something south of the border included! This burger SMASHed both items out of the park. Solid. Jalapeños were spicy, guacamole was excellent after the jalapeño kick , it was all excellent. My guy got the single classic smash and loved it, but he loves smashburger and has eaten at several across the nation. My little man though ate TWO orders of the classic single smash. Not a double...two burgers. I told my guy to order the little a double but he didn't listen and said the single was plenty. Thus, we had to order little another and said 7yr old little ate both orders. And fries Their fries are great. Fresh and "similar" to McDonalds in size (aka. not steak fries or waffle), and we got a large order of the regular fries. But the SMASHfries are the cat's meowwww! Rosemary, garlic and olive oil tossed with their classic fries, a little goes a long ways. I think it'd get old if we ordered a large SMASHfry but we got a small and it was just enough. My son already wants to go back, as does mama. I'm picky about burgers but really enjoyed this experience. Counter employee was kind and patient, line was short. No service complaints. Honest brand unsweetened iced tea was tasty. I like it!

I love their food and it is always freshly made, on time, and correct. The only reason I am giving 4 stars is because they absolutely douse their burgers with mustard and ketchup, like 2-3 times more than any typical restaurant. We're talking oozing out of the burger, all over the inside of the paper wrapper and subsequently on the outside of the bun. Looks like a car accident except a burger. There's no option to select less condiments when ordering, in fact there is just an option to select "Extra". Wow!!! So like, 5 times more than I want? I order from the office, so what I do is to make sure to only order when I have some ketchup and mustard packets handy at my desk, and then order with no ketchup or mustard...

Ordered delivery through the Smashburger website and nothing was ever delivered. Finally stopped at the store and employee said the food has been sitting there for 4 hours. Showed them my receipt that I ordered through the website and they said they don't do delivery. Got my food, but the shift manager just shrugged, brushed his employee off and had him tell me nothing could be done with the delivery fees and delivery tips charged. Disappointingly poor customer service.

Great burgers and quick service. There is a noticeable difference for delivery as that tends to come incorrect the majority of the time. However, dining in or getting takeout is a great choice for a decently priced good tasting burger.

I like, no, I love I good burger, and this one I ordered thru door dash, was frigging FIRE. And the sweet potato fries were on point!! Great tasting food. I would definitely recommend their food.

My husband, daughter, and I went for the first time here. We were not disappointed in the food at all. We each had a burger, they each had the right combination of being cooked, with crispy edges. The bread was soft and not stale or hard. My daughter had the kids meal and loved that the fries were not seasoned. My husband and I shared an order of the onion rings. They were the skinny stringed onion ringsZ. The batter they used made them delicious. For the kids meal it was priced at $5.99, that wasn't bad. Mine was made into a meal($8), my husbands was just one of the burgers @$5.99. Plus a fountain drink and a shake. Everything was ala carte. Between the three of us we spent $27.00 Little pricey, but well worth it.

What happened to the menu? Where's spicy Baja? They say they changed the menu but why?? I don't live in DM anymore but this place and the burger is one of the best memory I've of my Late Friend. It just breaks my heart. No complains but this could be better with old menu.

We have ordered from here a few times. The first time was SO good, but the subsequent times the food has been greasy and meh and way overpriced. We spent $40 on two burgers and two sides for Valentine's Day and my boyfriends onion rings were so salty he couldn't eat them.

I was impressed with the quality of the burger from Smashburger. This was my first time stopping here. I ordered the Iowa burger (LOVE blue cheese) and opted for the Smash fries, which were a tasty seasoning of Italian olive oil, garlic, and rosemary. The burger had a nice crisp bite to it and was cooked to perfection; bacon was crispy as were the fried onions on top of the blue cheese. The price point is very competitive - two burgers (my boyfriend joined me), an order of Smash fries, and two sodas for $22. I'll definitely be stopping back again. Highly recommend.

My mom was craving a burger, and we wound up trying out Smashburger for the first time. It's in a strip mall right by Eat Thai, Thai Eatery (delicious btw). The place is nice and clean. You walk in and order from the cash register. I'm going to be honest. I'm not sure if I ordered a meal or not. I had the spinach and goat cheese burger (drool-worthy), smash fries (heavenly--the rosemary!!), and I asked for a glass for water, but I received the same cup as everyone else. I think I may have just gotten a meal? Anyway, besides that confusion, the burger was good. I loved the goat cheese paired with the spinach, cucumbers, and tomatoes. The smash fries were covered in rosemary--it was amazing--but they were way too greasy. I'd go back.

This place was pretty darn good. Had lunch here with coworkers. Its a very nice, clean, and modern looking place. Its got plenty of tables but more of a quick joint to get a quality burger. I ordered their classic with large smash fries and fried pickles. I also added blue cheese to my burger. Order came out within 10min. First thing I could tell was the bun was quality. The meat in the burger tasted a bit charged because they smash it when they cook which is a nice touch. Its more of a thin patty but the flavors are all there. Portions of tomatoes, onion, and lettuce and cheese were on pont. Fries were however the highlight. Drenched in olive oil and rosemary. So tasty. They are also really thin so every bight is flavor packed and crispy. The fried pickles we very good as well. They were slices and not spears but tasted like salty goodness. Before rolling out my friend and I got an Oreo milkshake split in half to go. It was fantastic. Probably of the the best milkshakes I have ever had. I had a great experience and will come back again. If you are looking for a quick burger place that's upscaled then this is the place for you.

For some reason Smashburger just works for me. It fits somewhere between Steak N' Shake and a full-sevice restaurant. I really liked the fact that they've leveraged some locally produced items in the Maytag blue cheese to create their Iowa Smashburger. What really impressed me was the fact that the burgers are seared at high temperature on the outside, leaving a delicious well seasoned crunchy exterior. I was also compelled to try the much heralded "Smashfries" which I found to be quite odd, and disappointing. They are fries coated in olive oil, tarragon and garlic. Sounds like it would work, but they ended up being a greasy mess without much flavor. Service is fast and very friendly, the business is immaculately clean and modern. The next time I'm in Des Moines with a hankering for a burger and a short amount of time to eat, I'll make sure to hit Smashburger. The Iowa Smashburger is the best hamburger I've had in recent memory, and it can be had in a relatively small amount of time and at moderate expense.

Been to Smashburger many times decided to go this time because a young person was with me and never been. This early 20-something really enjoyed their $5 special they had the double burger with three cheeses, he thought it was really well put together and that the meat was great. I had a similar one and had the same experience. I want to say I've had the same quality experience every time I've eaten there over the years. They also make their fries homemade and it looks like they've up their game with a little more quantity in the fries as well as the homemade quality. Also enjoyed their shakes. I would recommend this to anyone who has her expectations in order this is a burger place it's not super high-end but it's not really low ... it's a sit-down place and has good service they really work at trying to make you happy and that's really important these days.

The food on the menu is an interesting concept but not as interesting as zombie burger. The food was fresh and hot and came quickly to our table. But the service was not up to par. One of the cashiers was drinking her drink from wendys while taking my order and would also playfully throw things back at the kitchen. Service was good when it came to them picking up our food and when we asked for extra sauces. So overall, Smash burger is a no go. I'll stick with Zombie burger, both restaurants cost about the same but Zombie burger has more options and waaay better service.

The is one of my favorite burger places that I've ever been to. There used to be one back in my hometown in iL but it closed after about a year, seemingly due to an iffy location. I'm afraid that this place may suffer from the same problem. But enough about that, how's the food? Good. Damn good. The bulk of the time I stick with the classic - beef, bun, ketchup, mustard, pickles (which I eat first), lettuce, onion, and tomatoes (which I discard and mock). It's simple but delicious. They have quality, thinly cut fries (i.e. Steak N Shake but better). I like the layout of the places and how straightforward the menu is. Their other sandwiches and shakes are good. So, why four stars? Well, besides the location, there simply are not enough options. Yes, it's a burger place - burgers are their thing, I get it. Still, it would help to have something that a vegan could actually eat. Also, while prices are pretty reasonable, I could still see a pair of people ending up with a fairly lofty bill if they aren't too careful. All things considered, it's a good stop to make and one that I'd make all too frequently if there was one close to my home.

The designer cousin of Five-guys with the atmosphere of Starbucks. I appreciated: the cleanliness of the restaurant, prompt service, freshness of my food; especially the lack of fear to serve my burger greasy. Not so much: the heavy-handed seasoning on my smash fries and extra extra ranch on my burger, and being charged for a glass of tap water. To be blunt: the employees suck. This needs to change if they wish to develop a base of returning customers. What I tried: avocado club burger and smash fries. To return or not to return: I'd definitely eat here again. This place is worth another mid-priced lunch stop.

I ordered the bacon cheeseburger with a fried egg on top. Fries were tasty. Not a lot of bacon on the burger though. Tastes great. Due to price I save trips to smashburger for special occasions..

Yum!! I miss In n Out Burger ALL the time! I think this is going to be my In n Out Burger in Iowa! Awesome, juicy and it's served nice and hot! My favorite with the Iowa burger, cuz it has a bunch of bleu cheese, and I LOVE bleu cheese! They have seasoned fries, sweet potato fries, and my fave, fried pickles!! The service is nice. It's order at counter and they give you a number and bring it to your table. The crew walks around and often will pick up stuff that you are done with and they are very polite. The atmosphere if casual. The inside kind of reminds me of a Chipotle, but with burgers. Enjoy ~

Smashburger is a great place for a quality sandwich when you're a little short on time or just don't want (or need) that full sit-down restaurant experience. Sandwiches are super customizable here, which is great. They have many topping choices and a wealth of buns to choose from. They have a nice black bean burger, but strangely it's not vegan. (Why?) I think it has eggs in it, which is a real bummer. I was also saddened by them recently dropping their "buffalo fries" from their menu - they were so good! Oh well...the SmashFries are really tasty too (garlic-rosemary)! They have good shakes too. It's a solid place to take the family for a casual, speedy, but quality and filling meal. It's a nice option to have for days when you're out running errands.
