Manhattan May Finally Be Getting a Pizzeria From Di Fara | Eater NY

Didn’t try the burger but walk in and the air is thick with the stank of old frying oil. Not a good sign. My fries could have been great but the cooking failed them. They’re not changing their oil out enough. You can’t do that in this area and get away with it. We know good flavor. Plus they were soggy with that yuck oil. Maybe cooking temp is off? Really didn’t satiate my fries craving and after a few bites I threw them away🫤 Staff couldn’t have been lovelier though! I didn’t get a burger so I may try that out and I’ll update…

Google
To be honest, I don't really see this as a smash burger. The patty is not smashed and crispy, It's not particularly seasoned. This is just an okay burger. It's not bad and the staff is very nice. But I feel like this is a regular burger place trying to catch on to the smashburger fad.

Google
The staff was so friendly and the space very clean. But unfortunately the food really wasn't good. The whiskey sauce was heavy on a cinammony flavor that I did not care for. I also found the meat and pickles to be of low quality. Not for me.

Fiona L.

Google
Stumbled upon this place drawn in by the $5 beer happy hour and was pleasantly surprised. The burger was great quality and delicious. The fries were perfectly cooked and salted. I will be back for another burger and will save room for the soft serve ice cream next time

Google
Delicious burger. Not a full on smash burger but there’s elements. Reminds me of Urban Skillet in NoHo. Filthy fries were decent. Large portion, but fries to topping ratio was off. Meat was a little overdone and clumped together. By the way, nicest carry out bag I’ve seen. It feels like one of those reusable ones. Will be back to try the other items. Believe it’s the same owners from the business previously in the location. Hope the pivot from English to American is successful.

Google
Wasn't what I was expecting. Burger was ok, had to put a bunch of salt on it. Fries were bland as well. Not worth it by any means. The place was empty at lunch time if that tells you anything. If you're looking for a good burger go hit up the Habit down the street and get the Santa Barbara char. Service was good, super nice guy. I wasn't about to ask for ranch which costs a dollar. This is called nickel and diming. Drink selection is quite bad, no fountain and/or iced tea, lemonade. Just water, sprite and coke in cans. Really quite bad all in all. Myself and a coworker left hungry if that tells you anything and he had the triple! Probably won't be back.

Google
Staff was great! Really enjoyed the burgers and soft serve. Visited this place while on vacation and would not hesitate to come back.

Google
They’re damn good. Great sauce, great patty to cheese ratio. Bun is perfectly toasted if you know what I mean

Yelp
What a gem. I ordered through Door Dash. They have fish n chips off the menu and was hoping to still be able to get it through door dash. It's not on the Door Dash menu. I called and spoke to a gentleman by the name of Steven. So pleasant and made sure to be accommodating. He told me how to order so I could get the fish n chips and then also had me modify it in the directions part. It's so rare for a restaurant to accept written modifications. I also got a smash burger and onion rings. I just don't care for the cheese most restaurants use, so I never get it. I also don't like 1000 island. They have their sauce as a whiskey sauce, so I asked for it on the side, thinking it might not be 1000 island. Both modification requests were honored. The onion rings. Oh my Lord, they are so, so good. Next time I will get 2 orders. I think they use Vidalia onions. They were sweet onions and soo good. The garlic aioli is a perfect sauce for them. The burger is so juicy and the right amount of caramelization to give that crunch. My daughter ate the burger, and this is her review. The fries were a little too salty and that's my fault for not asking for light salt. For some reason, I'm not a big salt fan. This place is so much better than the big chain of smash burgers. The customer service was also above and beyond. Also the packaging. I don't know if it's because it was raining cats and dogs, or it's the usual packaging, but it was in a reusable canvas bag. As someone in the same business, I always appreciate great customer service. Steven definitely accomplished that and then some. You will not be disappointed by this place. Thanks so much Steven.

Yelp
Had to come and check out this smashed burger spot in Burbank because I had seen their food on insta and it looked amazing! I arrived Friday evening and there were a few people already dining in. It is a family friendly place and the staff is also friendly and welcoming. The interior is decorated really neat, reminds me of beach vibes! They have cool surfboards on the wall as well. The best part of this burger joint is that they serve beer on tap and soft served ice cream, I mean it's a one stop burger spot, what more can you ask for? If choosing to dine in, they bring your order out to your table. That's really amazing hospitality. Parking is the only downside, but you can circle around and find street parking then walk over, that's what I ended up doing. I ordered the "slam and packed combo" part of the dineLA promo, I decided to get it as a double smash. I also decided to try out their beer on tap. I went with the Firestone walker cali squeeze blood orange Hefeweizen. The potato bun on my smashed burger tasted so so good! The presentation was neat, it helped a lot that the burger came in its own little wrap so it's less of a mess while you bite into it. It comes with pickles and this thousand island dressing which elevated the burger overall. Burger 5/5! The fries were delicious except, they were a little over cooked for my likings, some of them were crispy and burnt. Fries 2/5 Lastly, my beer was delicious and strong. I can taste the blood orange flavor along with the hefe 5/5 unique beer taste for sure. If you happen to be on this side of town in Burbank and you're craving a unique and fresh made smashed burger, give this place a try, you won't be disappointed. I'm sure they worked up on the previous experiences because I had a great one this time around; no complaints. Thanks again!

Yelp
Very good hamburger restaurant. The burgers are very tasty and the fries are excellent. We didnt order soft serve, but will do so next time we visit. The seating areas, both inside and out are comfy and the customer service that we received was extremely friendly. Plus, it is important to add that the prices, especially for food this good, was very reasonable. Ultimately, Smashed AF is a very easy recommendation!

Yelp
Heard about their fries so had to try. Hand cut, hot and crispy. Friendly service and pretty busy on a Sunday evening. Nice indoor seating, good for families. Not too noisy. Have to vome back for a burger burger

Yelp
Smashed AF in Toluca Lake is a great burger option. We went on a recent weeknight for some take-out in their last hour of business for that evening. We were warmly greeted by the gentleman behind the counter while folks were getting their soft serve... soft serve! I was starved & ordered myself a triple smashed burger ($13). It was massive. It didnt feel like a smashburger, it was more like regular patties. So good and I was soo full after. I love how the bread held up even with all the ingredients. The cheese was nice & melted, the burger patties were just what I was craving. All the burgers come with wagyu beef, cheddar, house pickles, whiskey sauce all on a potato brioche bun. It was on-point, all of it. They know what they're doing. We also ordered sides. Fries are $4 for the regular, beer battered onion rings are $6. The lady got a double smashed burger ($11) and she couldnt finish it. The burger was a little salty for her taste but still approved. The fries didnt travel too well as they were soggy by the time they got home. We will certainly dine-in next time. The onion rings were great. I love how they have soft serve ($4) and I will for sure have one next time. This space used to be a fish & chips spot so I definitely want to try that next. Service was great, the dining room was clean and bright. I liked that the skateboard decks on the wall that had little nods to the city of Burbank like KROQ & Burbank Choppers. Gentleman working on the evening of 2/18 was very helpful & had a great attitude. We were checking our order as we walked outside... We realized the fries were missing & at the same time, he came outside after us to let us know he had forgotten to give us the fries. We appreciated him for sure. Street parking only. Check the signs. 1 hour or 2 hour parking mostly. Located on Riverside Dr next to Lou the French & across from Reno's.

Yelp
Good smash burger, cheese, onions, thousand island sauce, fresh bun, not over priced since all other smash burgers are always more than 25$ for a meal. Your basic normal fries. Will be back to try out the soft serve ice cream

Yelp
New to the block and it's another good smash burger place to hit up. Got two single smash burgers and they come with: Wagyu beef, onions, cheddar, pickles, and "AF" whiskey sauce, on a soft potato brioche bun. One burger we got as is and the other added jalapeño bacon jam for an extra charge. The burger without the jam is flavorful and the burger with the jam is EXTRA FLAVORFUL. Almost indulgent. The jam is loaded with bacon and not too spicy, slight taste of jalapeños but mostly on sweeter side. I also tried the fish and chips. Ordered take out so the fries were soggy on arrival but popped them in the air fryer and good as new. Skinny Hand cut fries with a good amount of salt and the fish was flakey and lightly battered. I really enjoyed the tartar sauce. I don't know if handmade but it tasted fresh to me and yummmy. They also have beer and soft serve on the menu but only for dine in :)

Yelp
What a ridiculously hard business it is to open, and keep a restaurant running. My hat is off to any and all who try it. Smashed AF used to be the Auld Chip Shop. It was quite good, and a nice addition to the neighborhood, but unfortunately they didn't make it. So, they regrouped and rebranded, and now the same owners are in the burger business. The Beef Burgers and fries are great, but they also have Fried Chicken, Fried Fish, and Veggie Pattie burgers. And while it's not posted on the menu, you can still order their Fish & Chips. How's that for variety! Also, the service is very friendly and helpful. All the best to Smashed AF. If you're in the area, drop by and get smashed!!

Yelp
A worthy successor to the Auld Chip Shop space, Smashed AF is a dope lunch spot. A bright, minimalistic aesthetic and punk touches (the logo, their in-house playlists) create an interesting style, service is excellent, and the food is bomb. I'd recommend deciding on your order before going in - there are plenty of options and add-ons, and a thorough scan of the menu might not be possible whilst you're craning your neck looking at the overhead board. We tried a bunch of stuff: a single-patty smashburger with jalapeno bacon relish, another single-patty smashburger with fried egg, a fried chicken smashburger, fries, two orders of whiskey sauce, and truffle mac & cheese. The smashburgers were delicious. The relish didn't add a lot of spice, though plenty of rich flavour. The fries were perfectly cooked. The truffle mac was creamy and tasty. The chicken smashburger was interesting and pretty good as well - they also do fish and veg. I didn't love the whiskey sauce, which was a creamy aioli - I thought it'd be a tomato-based BBQ-esque sauce. It enhanced the smashburgers nicely, but it was a bit too rich alone with the fries. We enjoyed IPAs with our meal, and we were thrilled with the "swag" they offered: a reusable logo takeaway bag, and dainty square branded napkins. They are sensitive to customer convenience: those little napkins, flatware, and condiments are available at every table, so we didn't have to ask for or wander around seeking out these items. The lady who took our order and served our trays was pleasantly jovial, obviously someone who loves engaging with customers and providing exceptional service. We were too stuffed for soft serve this time, but we'll be back to try that with our next round of smashburgers!

Yelp
We stopped by Smashed AF to grab two chicken sandwiches. The place was very clean, which I appreciated. However, both sandwiches were a huge disappointment--they looked nothing like what was advertised. WHERE IS THE QUALITY CONTROL? Both sandwiches were burnt, overly greasy, and soggy because the buns had absorbed all the excess oil that hadn't been drained off. Completely inedible--I might as well have just thrown my money in the trash. The fries were okay but leaned on the greasy side too. They should be ashamed to serve anyone burnt sandwiches! Definitely not what I was expecting.

Yelp
Great food and great value! Smashed AF is delicious and surprisingly affordable. I feel like smash burgers are crazy overpriced these days but not Smashed AF! Their restaurant is clean and cozy. Plenty of seating and food comes quick. Ordering at the counter was fast and efficient with very friendly and chatty staff. I ordered my meal to go and it came in a cool re usable tote! Now the food: I got the filthy fries and a chicken sandwich. The sandwich was very juicy and crispy. Fries were cooked perfectly with a chopped up wagyu patty and sauce. I didn't love the pickles as they are very sweet so I suggest getting it on the side. Oh and Get the garlic sauce!! Thanks Smashed AF! I will be visiting again.

Yelp
I had been searching for the best fish and chips for quite a while with hope dwindling. I had specific requirements to land the top spot in my tummy! Alas, I happened upon this place and entered a state of Nirvana! On a small stretch of Toluca lake where you find all kinds of eating establishments, this place stood out! It was a pristine place with a nicely appointed stetting and perfectly arranged tables and chairs. The menu above the counter displayed a selection the was varied and amenable to different likes, including vegetarian, meat forward smash burgers even low carb options. There is also a hidden fish and chips option (the original place offered manly fish and chips but then rebranded) It was a good move because it opened up a plethora of selections. We opted for the fish and chips, and they were served to us on a tray filled with perfectly cut fries. Two big Atlantic Cod fillets battered to perfection WOW! The fries were perfect and the tartar sauce was creamy and fresh. Though it's a small place, the crew of two (one cook and counter server) glided through the place smoothly and in a very professional manner without skipping a beat! The fish had a perfect amount of crunch and the cod was perfectly cooked. I can't wait to come back! This is going to be my all time go to place, I may even get a smash burger. The only drawback is that parking is non existent, you have to drive around the neighborhood to find a spot. I was with my friend who was using a walker but we made it somehow, hopefully the city will come up with future accommodations! Thank you for offering such great food!

Yelp
When I saw this place being built I was very excited to have a smashed burger place close to work. I'm very happy to say it lived up to hype I built up in my mind. I feel like some smashed burgers are too smashed but this is just right! The fries are the best fries I've ever had! Idk how they get the crispsness so perfect but they do. The guys that work there are super nice and friendly. I would definitely say stop by here if you're looking for burgers in Burbank

Yelp
First time here!! This place is called Smashed * AF, not The Auld Chip Shop. I didn't try their burgers yet, because I saw the Soft Serve Ice Cream at the front, of course I had to order it!!! The wonderful staff behind the counter is soooooo nice. The soft serve tasted good. It's a nice casual place. They opened up 3 weeks ago. Today is October 10, 2024. According to the cashier, so far if you work for Disney and Universal (show ID), you get 10% off.

Yelp
We walked past this joint looking for a burger and decided to try this spot. I ate the chicken sandwhich which I thought was okay. There were a lot of good elements but I found the chicken itself to be a bit gross. The texture was rubbery. The bread was nice and crisp and the chicken breading was crunchy (although meant for fish). The sweet potato fries were fresh and crisp as well. If I came back, I think I'd get the fish next time. Food was made quickly as we didn't wait too long, and service was good. They were patient as I chose what I wanted to order and if I wanted modifications. The restaurant was clean and pretty plain inside (although those white chairs are not incredibly comfy).

Yelp
I did really enjoy their burgers, my son loved his double double. I did pay for a double double but got a single, which was fine. I wish they paid attention more. It's a small burger joint super easy. The staff was very friendly and very kind and very helpful. The ambience is very casual and welcoming.

Yelp
At my brother's recommendation, I ventured over to Smashed AF in Burbank. And I was on a mission to test out, of all things, their Fish & Chips. There burgers look delicious and the customer next to me was enjoying his thoroughly. However, I'm here for the fish per my brother. The staff is super friendly and funny. The environment is casual and friendly for conversation. And now to the fish. The fish and chips are delicious. They are crispy and super fresh. The fries are all natural and have plenty of salt flakes. The ultimate test for me is the tartar sauce. And they pass with flying colors. The perfect amount of creamy, tangy and tart. Loved it all! And they have soft serve. Ask to make it 99! Or get a Guiness float. Yum!
google avatar

Jenny O.

Yelp
Love this place. Great food and service. The cherry on top is their very Irish "99" ice cream. But even if you didn't spend you childhood in Ireland, you'll still enjoy it!
google avatar

Yelp
Unfortunately I was Completely sucker punch k'o'd by this spot & devoured my food with such bliss that I forgot to snap a pic. This is a burger joint but the FISH sandwich is the real star. Phenomenal battery, crisp, excellent flavor, not overly dough or flakey & great ratio of batter to fish. The mayo & pickle slices pear perfectly & even the bun was a banger. Warning it's a messy sandwich. 5/5 Walked in & was greatly by the staff. Very friendly & casual. If I lived closer would be a regular lunch spot forsure. Highly recommend, definitely coming back with more hungry mouths.
google avatar

Kayla S.

Yelp
It's a cute little place. Service was what got this to 4 stars honestly, very personable peeps! We've got to come again... because almost everything we tried to order they were out of and waiting for their shipment from elsewhere so that was misleading... The ice cream cone was fabulous that's kind of hard to mess up. Looking forward to trying this again

Yelp
I was looking for a burger place and I found a great one! Clean and the ambience was good. Open Xmas eve. The man behind the counter, who may have been the owner was very nice. The burger was very delicious!!!! A little high on pepper but also may have been the whiskey bbq sauce. Fries are not frozen and were crispy!
google avatar

Natalie M.

Yelp
Their food is really, really good. I've tried the burgers, the Mac n cheese, the fish and chips, and the fries and all were EXCELLENT. Seriously one of my favorite burgers I've had recently. Up next for me to try is their soft serve.

Mike ..

Yelp
I wasn't sure what to expect and was very happily surprised. The burger was delicious and the fries (homemade, not institution-grade) were very memorable. I'll be back!

Yelp
the best Wagyu beef burgers and the best stuff in town! Will definitely come back! Super fun punk- ska ambiance and great music !

Yelp
My son and I live in the neighborhood and went several months ago. It's just taking me a while to get to this review. Had high hopes. The restaurant that was there before was amazing but overpriced, which is probably why it's not there anymore. My understanding is at the same people who owned that own this hamburger place. Quite frankly everything was so greasy that my son and I couldn't eat the french fries. I didn't take but two bites of my burger. The manager or person who was assisting us, seemed really uninterested in our feedback and seemed to care even less that we didn't eat most of our food. Won't be back.
google avatar

Suzy B.

Yelp
The inside was very nice. The chick at the chick at the counter was very friendly. If you like a tangy burger you're at the right place. Too tangy for us. The pickles were outstanding, a little bit in each bite. Fries were ok. Don't bother with the soft serve I guess unless you get the chocolate syrup. DO NOT get the Cadbury stick. It seemed outdated. No taste to either one. So like I said, if you're into tangy burgers and no taste soft serve, this is your place. Oh BTW beer on draft. Nice peeps.
google avatar

Linh B.

Yelp
Got there at 8:40PM and its closed? Everywhere online says its open until 9PM. The staff was inside working but paid no attention to us when we tried to open the door. We also called them and they didn't pick up either. SMH

Lyra C.

Yelp
The employee was chill asf and super nice. The burger was a smash burger but idk if it smashed smashed. It got the job done.
google avatar

Emma K.

Yelp
Burgers were good.. a little greasy but that's a smash burger. Fries were amazing! And we even had room for soft serve. Clean, quick and very friendly service!
google avatar

Joshua W.

Yelp
I found this place a while ago because a really good friend of mine is a manager of that place, his name is Stephen and he's a really cool dude and same with the employees, I'm not too worried about the price, the food is delicious. I got my first Triple patty burger today and I enjoyed it, the only thing I can say is it is a little bit too greasy on the buns. But on top of that, it's a great place, parking may be a little bit hard to find so if you're looking for a good burger spot, this is the place.
google avatar

Yelp
The service, the ambience and ofcourse the food! MY FAVORITE BURGER so far. I love it!

Erik G.

Yelp
I never really post reviews, but man this place was a pleasant surprise. I just finished their burger, it was fantastic. There's so many smashed burger spots nowadays they all kind of blend into each other, however, this one was remarkably delicious.

Melissa M.

Yelp
Great smash burger; good price. Also love that they have the fish n chips option! Their bacon jam is the best!!!

Armen O.

Yelp
The food was amazing a mixture of flavors in each bite. I loved their beer battered onion rings, it was so tasty. The lady working behind the counter was so friendly and was very patient while we decided on what to get. The decorations were very nice and fit in with the vibe. Coming back 100%.

Kevin K.

Yelp
I consider myself somewhat of a burger connoisseur. I've tried every smash burger in the NoHo/Toluca lake area. This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review. Hands down the best burger I've had. You can taste the difference in the ingredients. It's Wagyu beef and a great brioche bun. My wife had the fish sandwich which was also fantastic. The onion rings are obviously hand dipped to order and they cut their own fries. It also helps that they serve beer and wine. The prices are really reasonable and don't miss the soft serve. Service was friendly and fast. I'll be back often.

Raeven B.

Yelp
Best burger place in Burbank!! The burgers literally melt in your mouth, the fries are homemade and taste amazing! Quick service and friendly staff! 10/10!

Carolyn O.

Yelp
I tried this place today for the first time and I have to say that I am quite impressed. The burger was absolutely delicious. Very fresh and seasoned perfectly. The french fries were also very good. I will definitely go back here.

Zoi A.

Yelp
this review is strictly constructive. the ambiance was boring. the food was okay. my burger was tasty but not exciting... the onion rings were flimsy and greasy for $6... i think it was incredibly overpriced to be honest. the service was great! i live in the area and have seen this location change a number of times. i really wanted to love this place, but unfortunately it was just lackluster for me. hoping the feedback is taken constructively
