The Best 2020 Takeout, Delivery, and Outdoor Dining Standouts for North and South Carolina - Eater Carolinas

"Eric Ginsburg also mentioned Smith Street Diner as another significant closure in Greensboro. Known as a longstanding institution, its closure left a noticeable absence in the local dining scene." - Erin Perkins

Wonderful food. Chicken salad was great. Fish and chips awesome. Breakfast being delivered to neighboring tables looked massive. Came for breakfast this time. It was wonderful as well. Gravy was just so so. Had the Mexican eggs and their homemade hash this trip. Just wonderful. Next trip, the pancakes! Can't wait. Pancakes photo just added. Wonderful! Tenderloin and egg biscuit with hash browns. Just wonderful.

Not for me. The staff is friendly but other factors will be why I wouldn't return. While I understand it's a simplified diner, the place felt a little grimy to me. The food was not so tasty and they definitely don't aim for aesthetically pleasing. We paid $7.50 alone just for soda and tea. Yeah um no. At least they offered paper recyclable straws so kudos there! I had the French toast which is made like a bread pudding...yuck. And it was burnt on the edges. I love bread pudding so I thought how could I go wrong here....yeah um, hard no on that dish. Yuck. The pancakes were paper thin....literally. The Turkey sausage was good at least. We love diner food but this place is just not cutting it.

Busy little diner. Good food. Had the gumbo. Could have used more sausage. Had one piece in the entire bowl. Family had omelet, biscuit and gravy, and philly sandwich.

Good food, biscuits are big. But very crumbly, Not flaky and soft like biscuits should be. I ordered gravy on meatloaf and I got charged $ 1.50. But because they put takeout in a plastic container and then they are put in a paper box. That leaks and is not sturdy. Portions are small because of space in plastic container.

Great food great service. We tried going to 3 places before here, but left the other places because we were too hungry to wait. Awesome for breakfast. Nice friendly staff. I had the homemade roast beef hash. Delicious. Got full on half the plate.

I had the homemade corned beef hash with two eggs over medium, one pancake with blueberry compote, a biscuit, coffee amd swee tea. My wife had an omolete, home fries, coffee and sweet tea. My daughter had two pancakes with blueberry compote, home fries, grits and water. The bill was $48. Service - Friendly and attentive. Food - Portions are generous. The eggs were overcooked. The corned beef hash was under seasoned and had tomatoes and onions in it that overpowered the corned beef and potatoes. I would try it again but with potatoes and corned beef only. The biscuit was HUGE but bland and flavorless. The pancake was excellent and the blueberry compote is homemade and delicious. Highlight of tge meal. My wife's omelette was excellent as were the home fries. My daughter's pancakes were excellent as were the blueberry compote, home fries and grits. Drinks - The sweet tea was good but the coffee tasted old and burnt.Loo

Although, the food was really good, especially the pancake. The place is cramped. It's a very tiny place, but doesnt seem to bother the regulars. If you go, be prepared to wait. The service, is very friendly. Overall, I did enjoy it, but probably won't be returning.

Ordered the scrambled eggs, wheat toast, buttered grits, with two turkey sausage patties. This breakfast was pretty good. The personnel were polite and the food was served in no time. I would recommend this place to anyone who desire some breakfast food without the big franchise name attached to the establishment.
