Chef Nick Stefanelli’s Le Clou and Other D.C. Restaurant Closures to Know - Eater DC

"That’s a wrap for fashion and entertainment icon Tyra Banks’ first official Smize & Dream scoop shop. Smize & Dream entered the D.C. market in July as a short-term pop-up near the Smithsonian Zoo, but there were potential plans to stay put longer if the location worked well. The ice cream store, which hides a sprinkle-covered 'Smize Surprise' truffle treat at the bottom of every cup and cone, got a surprise visit from TikTok star Keith Lee soon after opening. Eater reached out to the team about plans to potentially reopen elsewhere in D.C." - Tierney Plumb

Supermodel Tyra Banks Brings D.C. a Haute Scoop Summer - Eater DC

"Smize & Dream, founded by Tyra Banks, is an ice cream store located in Woodley Park, D.C. It operates as a pop-up from July 19 to September 20. The store is known for its 'Smize Surprize', a truffle treat hidden at the bottom of every cup and cone. It offers 10 core flavors and weekly experimental flavors, including a D.C.-themed 'Cap Hill Crunch'. The venue includes counter-service seats and an outdoor patio, ideal for families and zoo visitors. Banks plans to involve local youth in an educational program about the ice cream industry after the pop-up ends." - Tierney Plumb

When I saw this on the news and found out that Tyra Banks created this ice cream place, I wanted to try it out since ice cream is one of my favorite desserts! I had a waffle cone with the flavors Cap Crunch and That Woodley Park Thang. Both flavors were good and not too sweet. There was a vegan option as well, not vegan but will also try on the next visit. This is convenient right across the street from the Woodley Park station on the red line. The staff was very knowledgeable regarding the products and the price was very reasonable. I told a staff member that I will visit again, maybe bring a friend or my mom to try.

Just what D.C., and more specifically - Woodley Park - needed!! Honestly delicious ice cream and fun new flavors and treats that rotate. Hoping we will see the pop-up return next summer!

Note: By entering you consent to being filmed and give your permission for it to be used for marketing. They have 1 vegan/dairy-free option the Chocolate cookie & cream. If you're closer to a Van Leeuwen you should go there, they have a lot more options and better $ value, if not consider this. The vegan ice cream itself has a great creamy texture, not icy at all and the chocolate flavor is good. I didn't really get much of the cream though. They also have a vegan brownie bite which I appreciate. 1 Scoop with tax/tip was ~$9.50, a little high given the scoop size.

Came the other day for the 1st time this past Wednesday. The weather was raining so it want much to no line. Was able to go in and out and order in no time. People came after ordered tho. Me and my daughter was able to get samples. So the server was engaging. I wanted to try order two things but they were sold out smh a bummer since haven't been open long . I ended up get 1 scoop & so did my daughter.. we both enjoyed our scoops. The surprise you get was a treat to top off . Good location and price point not badd. But i can only imagine how kaotic it will be if crowded cause its a very small spot. Wishing you much success on your ice cream journey Tyra. #blackowned business matters

"Let that Mango 🥭 is amazing! Very intense mango flavor. Woodley Park (lemon blueberry) great! Chocolate GooGoo is also top tier. I got all three. The 'scoop model'( my nickname for their employees) was so helpful and let me try everything!!! UPDATE: Pint Pick Up Party has the potential to be the hotspot. Go check it out on the Friday nights 6-9, if your waistline can stand it.

The staff in/outdoors were really kind. After visiting Model Land in LA I wanted to support Tyra and try this location out. The ice cream surprisingly was really tasty. I hate that I wasn’t there the day Kamala visited.

I waited three hours on the opening day and I’m glad I waited. Even though the wait was terribly long, but I understand why, the ice cream was really good. I really enjoyed the smize (purple brownie) in the cone and I tried the cap hill crunch. The flavors were better than I expected! don’t really care for toppings on or in my ice cream, but this was a pleasant surprise! I’ll be back again before they move locations. To the amazing staff who talked to us in line, encouraged us, gave recommendations, brought out water and were super kind THANK YOU!!! You all were the reason why I stayed in line!

After seeing a few really weird reviews online from people that have never even visited the place (how can you review a food business without even trying the food? That's a special sort of trick) I decided to make a special effort to come on down and try it for myself. Particularly since they advertised vegan options, and I am Lactose free. I found the staff to be very friendly, the place to be very clean and the location a really good addition to the Woodley neighborhood. They also offer a twist on a traditional ice cream serve (you select a tasty bakery treat that they put inside the serving) that I appreciated as fun and different from something like Coldstone where it's chopped and mixed. Like "brownie at the bottom" in concept, but with more options. I ended up ordering a vegan coconut cream lemon bar flavor and it was absolutely delicious. Thick, rich, creamy, refreshing, and shockingly not too tart or overly sweet. That tells me the ingredients are fresh, and not chemical, and they didn't cut corners on vegans. it was really a perfect dessert for a hot saturday afternoon!

Yelp
I was greeted with a polite employee, who was very patient in explaining the flavor and purchasing options. Unfortunately it was the end of the season so some of the popular flavors were sold out but possibly available in the pint size. I was reassured of the quality and all natural ingredients used for the ice cream. The space had a personalized Tyra's touch corner with some family photos and decor. I was unable to sample everything but some standouts thus far are as follows: Vanilla is very good with distinctive vanilla taste beyond the average). Tyra's favorite offers a great balance like a jazzed up butter pecan. The bourbon caramel and bacon infused flavors were also very good. Chocolate lovers may enjoy the oreo in chocolate flavor. This was an introductory pop up shop for exposure to the brand. I look forward to exploring more of their flavors and determining my core go to selections. Next season should be even better with a new location! I enjoyed it to say I'll stay tuned for updates.

Yelp
It's been months now and I finally made it, Miss Tyra, to DC to SMiZe & Dream. It's a very cute spot. The music was nice, the decor was very trendy. However, the best part of the SMiZe experience was the young woman who waited on me. I don't remember her name, but I do know she said that she was from Vietnam. She was ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL. 10's for customer service, 10's for product knowledge, and 10's for friendliness and customer engagement. My friend and were able to try as many samples as we wanted as we narrowed down our choices. We finally settled on the following: La Crookie AKA Inglewood in Paris, Tyra's Favorite, MCMC Mama Carolyn's Masterpiece of Cake, The Candy Bacon Crunch, and Woodly Park Thang. So, for the record, I LOVE bacon, but I was very skeptical about the Candy Bacon Crunch ice cream. Well I am happy to report that THAT RIGHT THERE is one of the best flavors. It had just the right amount of bacon sprinkled throughout the scoop, it was crunchy, and you tasted the bacon in every spoonful. I also liked the MCM infused with the moist butter yellow cake. That's a must try as well. Overall, I was SMiZing all the way to my car as I sat and ate 3 scoops in a matter of seconds. Tyra, good job on the flavorful selections, but a phenomenal job on the hiring of this young woman. There needs to be one of her at any location you open next. Ladies and gentlemen, SMize & Dream is an ice cream lovers paradise. Although this place is not very large, the ice cream definitely holds its own as the star of the show. Get to DC before they pack it up and pop up at a new location. They have about a month left in this location. You will not be disappointed. TIL we eat again...

Yelp
WHEN I SAY I WAS SO EXCITED!!!! that would be an under statement I been waiting and waiting to get this ice cream. I purchased one scoop of the cap hill crunch. I wanted to get a scoop of them all, but i decided cap hill crunch. It was really creamy it had a caramel, captain crunch pieces, caramel & toffee chip running throughout the ice cream. It was truly a sweet treat. High recommend

Yelp
SMiZe & Dream is a pop-up ice cream shop by Tyra Banks which is open in Woodley Park, DC only until September 20, 2024. It is on the lower level of Petit Monde. The shop's blacked-out decor gives LA boutique vibes. I visited on the opening weekend and of course the line was lengthy, however, outdoor signage facilitated moving the line as patrons were able to review flavors prior to entering. The flavors here are not traditional in any sense of the word. They offer only novelty ice cream flavors in single-scoop quantities, some of which are named to honor the city and local themes of DC like "That Woodley Park Thang" which is blueberries and shortbread and "Cap Hill Crunch" which is Cap'n Crunch cereal and toffee. Every Wednesday this Summer a new ice cream and SMiZE Surprize flavor drops. They give you flavor hints throughout the week on their Instagram and on Wednesdays they release the flavors. They strategically release flavors throughout the summer, however, each new flavor is only available while it lasts, so if you are interested in a particular flavor you probably should anticipate and plan to visit shortly after the flavor drops on Wednesday. Overall this was a good experience. I will visit again. Give them a try.

Yelp
I had high hopes for Smize and Dream, especially since the service was friendly and the line wasn't terribly slow nor too long on a hot evening. Plus, the decor and styling was cute in there. But there were two things I could not get over, hence the low rating. 1. The allergens, which were in bold at the bottom of the ice creams, were listed. However, one of the ice creams used a cashew product in its description that was not listed in the allergen statement below it (no mention of any nuts were in the allergen statement). Thankfully my son, who is deathly allergic to cashews, read the description carefully. 2. The mint chip ice cream used chocolate covered potato chips. Those are fine on their own, but mixed together with mint chip... plus they were very salty, made it unbearable to finish. I appreciate the attempt at winning DC over with your ice cream concept Tyra, but there are better ice cream spots in the area to enjoy.

Yelp
First, shoutout to Cody and the amazing staff for not only displaying good hospitality but having a great sense of humor. Next, I know that the ratings are very few but I think that this place has great potential and the ice cream was unique and delicious! Decor! The ambiance in this place is EVERYTHING! It's cute, it's cozy, it's fashionable, it's Tyra! Like, the Tyra Banks! Ice cream: I decided to try the candy bacon crunch because everyone with great taste buds knows that salty and sweet go together real bad! lol. This combination proved just that and was good from start to finish. Listen, I love a good ice cream and this ice cream was creamy and delectable. With every bite, I uncovered another bite of candied bacon and my tastebuds went through the roof. The cone presented a nice sweet additional to the flavor and they even offer you a free smize. What is a smize you might ask? Well, mines was a little cookie dough ball dripped in sprinkles! I had mines on the side and I honestly think that it was cute but not something I would want all the time. The ice cream however, stood on its own and I was thoroughly glad that I tried that particular flavor. My family loved their ice cream as well and all agree that this place should be filled with more customers....I agree! Would I return? Absolutely! Good ice cream is worth the drive! Is it good for kids? Absolutely! It's family friendly and even offers a little seating outside. Run, don't walk, and go enjoy a little sweet treat before it leaves the area.

Yelp
Love the concept, love the Tyra Banks enthusiasm, but the ice cream is ridiculously priced for such a small quantity and unimpressive taste. Sad to say it and wish them the best!

Yelp
A pop/up ice cream by Tyra Banks, opened up near the Zoo - they're going to be around until September 20th, so if you want to try this place out, you better start going! Note that they are located on the lower level of Petit Monde! Their menu offers cookie dough bites and various ice cream flavors. We tried the Cap Hill Crunch, Dough Dough & Mo Dough, and That Worley Park Thang. Staff were friendly! Limited metered street parking available in the area. +friendly staff +pop-up until 9.20

Yelp
This pop up ice cream shop is a temporary location in Woodley Park, but it offers a cute space, with decent ice cream and both indoor and outdoor seating. Founded by the legend Tyra Banks, the concept is definitely unique as you don't often see super models going into the business of ice cream. The staff were very friendly and attentive, offering explanations of the variety of flavors available. They pair each ice cream with a cake pop that goes underneath the scoop. Overall, I would say the ice cream is good, but I would recommend coming here for the experience and the staff more than the bites.

Yelp
I tried the vegan "yo go bars" lemon bars flavor to-go and pow pow - flavor hits your mouth - just like a deliciously tart lemon bars but sweet with the buttery crust mixed in. Addicting. Highly recommend! Everyone loved the flavors they got - dough dough and mint chip- with cute surprise sprinkle ball. VERY filling. Tyra gives so much of herself to the world with a wonderful positive message, and her light certainly shined true with this one!

Yelp
This ice shop was quite the surprise and just what I needed on a 90+ degrees day. It is so small and easy to walk past. The pop up makes me want to see permanent storefronts and continued expansion. The service had me feeling like I was family. I'm a big fan of all the flavors.

Yelp
I have loved every flavor I've tried! If you like an ice cream flavor with a lot going on and a bunch of mix-ins, you will like this place. Only drawback is how expensive it is (~$10 for a scoop in a speciality cone). Next time I would skip the speciality cone ($2 up charge) and get more ice cream. The staff are personable and genuinely seem to enjoy working there. Extra points for a killer marketing and social media strategy too. Hope Tyra's pop-up sticks around!

Yelp
Coffee ice cream is one of my favorites, and they have some of the best that I've tasted. The staff will also keep you smiling!

Yelp
I have officially completed tasting all the incredible flavors Tyra's has to offer! This place truly embodies inclusivity and has created a safe, welcoming space for the LGBTQ+ community. It brings people together for a spark of magic with every bite. If you ask me, the selection is outstanding. Tonight, I've officially tasted every flavor, and I couldn't be more impressed! With Love to YOU! Kylie Terriquez

Yelp
It was just okay. Nothing special. But very expensive. And if you get a cone, they dump it upside down into a cup without asking you.

Yelp
Okay so it's #NationalIceCream day and it's my first one since moving back to from England . So this was a banging ting (in my roadmen accent) pulling up to Tyra Banks shop that just opened a few days ago so I had to check it out. They had a variety of flavours the staff let you try out all of them, they give their recommendations to you if your still unsure, the experience was excellent!! I ended up getting Woodley Park which had Lemon and Blueberry with a white cream ice cream, my wife had a brownie one and my son a chocolate. The place isn't big it is a pop up shop but for what for the area it's it's awesome come get some and leave lol, really easy which I like.

Yelp
Did the location close down?? No announcement or anything...walked by the other day and saw the gate was closed

Yelp
I tried the vegan lemon bar and the cookie dough (3 ways!) flavor. They were both delicious and so addictive. Definitely worth it.
