LA’s Award-Winning Smog City Brewing Anchors New Glendora Public Market - Eater LA

"Smog City Brewing Co. is an early craft beer success story for Los Angeles, one of a handful of local labels that have come to make Torrance the hotbed of South Bay brewing activity. Founded in 2011 by Laurie and Jonathan Porter, the couple moved into their own facility in 2013 and, last year, landed a deal to expand a taproom inside the SteelCraft container park in Long Beach. Now they’re jumping northeast to Glendora, elongating their reach with a small on-site taproom." - Farley Elliott

Scarlet needs to come back, new male bartender tries to be smarter than everyone. Wouldn’t even give us the bathroom code until we ordered. Super rude with his ear piercing. Also took cash under the table didn’t even charge us after he found out we were paying cash.

Google
Smog city brewery has a nice selection of yummy brews! Prices are pretty reasonable, they also are cool & let you sample a few before you purchase. Well at least most of the bar tenders are cool. Some have a stick up their A$$ & don't let you sample. So most of the employees are super friendly & helpful. I love that they are located inside Glendora's public market. So you can grab some grub and a brew from here. #Score

Google
Was at the area and stopped for a refreshing cold beer. They have 24 tap or draft beer. Scarlet was great and very very friendly. I will recommend this place for a great refreshing drink.

Google
Atmosphere, the taste, all were great. Staff were super awesome! Unsure with what you're getting, grab a flight!

Google
My first time there I bought a growler and a crawler total of $41 not complaining about the price and the beer was great!! Went to pay found out no cash was excepted so I paid with a gift card and the guy says okay cool your good to go okay thanks so they accept cash tips 🤢🤮😜 okay I love to tip these people so I tip him $7 I think that's fair so it took him about 5 minutes. Well I came home and checked my account on that card turns out this guy tipped himself$10 is that okay?? Or am I over reacting??

Google
Went into smog city brewing @ glendora marketplace today 6-17-23 with my girlfriend after a long day of running around and ordered 2 “from LA wit love” and 2 “mango pango” then we wanted to close out our tab. They brought me the tablet to pay and said it was going to be $30 and I had left a cash tip. When I got home I looked at my emailed receipt and found that after I approved the $30 they had added another beer and charged me! A 16oz “lil Bo pils” that I never got and tipped themselves an extra $5 which I DID NOT APPROVE! Unbelievable. I’ve had some other issues coming here in the past with the service but this is bad. I will not be returning to this place. AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE!

Eric Bertrand

Google
This is one of the worst breweries I’ve experienced. Paid almost $11 for a nasty beer and the bartender didnt even fill to the top of a very small glass. I wouldn’t return if I was paid to. Arrow Lodge Brewing is just down the road and they actually know what they are doing.

Google
Good beer, lots of food options in the building, and they have a surprisingly good bottle and souvenir (shirts ECT) I see lots of complaints that they are following CDC mask and vaccine requirements.. personally I appreciate their diligence. But there's also plenty of places to drink outside of you're hating on the vaccine...

Yelp
Smog City Brewing is a standout spot for beer lovers, conveniently located at the back of the Glendora Public Market. Its prominent setup and extensive selection make it a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the area. The brewery offers a wide variety of beers on tap, catering to all palates. During my visit, I opted for the Frost Quake Hazy IPA, priced at $8.50, and it was as flavorful as expected from one of my favorite brewing companies. As a fun option, you can keep a branded glass for an additional $4, making it a great keepsake for enthusiasts. For those who prefer enjoying their brews at home, Smog City also sells 4- and 6-packs of their creations. The quick and efficient service ensures you won't have to wait long to enjoy your drink. The brewery's space was decked out in festive Christmas decorations, adding a cozy and cheerful vibe. Being part of the larger food hall at the Public Market is another highlight. It provides easy access to a variety of food options, allowing you to pair your beer with delicious bites from nearby vendors. Overall, Smog City Brewing delivers a fantastic experience, whether you're looking to grab a quick drink, explore new flavors, or take home some of their renowned beers.

Yelp
It may seem that being a beer-bartender is a fun or easy job. But, it is serious business, a lot of work goes into the products they serve which rotate on a regular basis. The Brewmaster here is very knowledgeable and an expert, that is easy to see and TASTE. They cater to every type of customer, from a casual drinker to beer connoisseur! I had been to the Glendora Public Marketplace several times, but this was the first time at the brewery. This neighborhood hangout is laid-back, come solo or with a group. Several customers were regulars, I noticed the Bartender knew their name when they arrived. Smog City has an impressive number of taps ready to go, or should I say flow?? Order by the glass, a tasting flight, or 6-pack to go from their mini store, called the SMOG SHOP. You can buy the glass to take home, which I did at a deal for $4 if you buy the beer or slightly more if you only want a glass as sovereign (no beer purchase). I am planning to go back and try more beers next time. When you arrive, don't forget to tell em that Rosemary sent ya!

Yelp
No food to review but surely the selection of beers they have are amazing! The service is incredible and the ambiance is vibing!! Always there for a good time. It's inside a market place so if you get hungry there's so many food to choose from!

Yelp
Located 'Smog City Brewing @Glendora, CA., this past week from visiting 'Glendora Public Market.' I ended up buying a Smog City Pint Glass and a Sleeve because their Purple Sleeve said 'Los Angeles,' on top. I will get around to taking pics of these Brewery swags I bought here. Service: 5/5 friendly bartender. I was fetching a wheat beer, but it was already getting to closing time, so I ended up just shopping their swags here. Ambiance: 5/5 their shop side is decorated even though small but please consult pictures I have attached with this review down below for further reference. I'll be back for a Wheat Beer in the near future with the Pint glass I bought.

Yelp
What an amazing experience! We drove by and seen this spot and decided why not make a U-turn. Bartender gentleman (Paul) was super friendly, nice...I can go on his superb service. Drinks were on point. I would definitely be back with fam & friends.

Yelp
Smog City Brewing is a Beer Company, and this location is in the Glendora Public Market. They have lots of diverse beer options on the menu. The bartender was nice and made good recommendations. I ordered the Citrus Blonde, which was sweet and gave me a good buzz. It was also a reasonable price. We went for Smogtoberfest, which had live music. It was a bit loud, but the vibes were nice. There was also other places for food nearby and lots of seating. I'd recommend coming here with a few friends for a casual get together or drink.

Yelp
The ambiance here is super chill and laid back. Came here with my family and we had a blast. Got the chance to have a conversation with Anthony and he's such a dope dude. Very knowledgeable with all the beers and definitely recommend some good ones. I had the Lightning Sprites Hazy IPA and it hit the spot. It was juicy and crushable! If you are looking for food well, luckily you are in the right spot. The Glendora market has multiple spots to choose from and being able to stop and get a beer or two from Smog is just the icing on the cake! Thank you Anthony for your magnificent hospitality. I will be visiting soon!

Yelp
Attentive knowledgeable staff. Nice location in a food hall with several genres of food options.

Yelp
Do you enjoy well-crafted beers? Then Smog City is a brewery you should try if you haven't yet. I had the California Love, an Imperial Red Ale with Pinot Noir grapes, orange peel, and oak. The flavor was unique, interesting, and definitely worth trying.
google avatar

Hana L.

Yelp
Located inside the Glendora Public Market. Has a wide variety of beers to choose from. I'm not a beer gal but if it's your thing, you'll never be short on options. It's a brewery so no wine, no cocktails, etc. Though they do have some strong beer (goes up to 14% for the highest volume). But the stronger the beer, the darker & bitter it is... should have went for their strongest cider instead. Ambiance is casual, tons of food vendor around to pair your beer with. Service is good, quick & simple.
google avatar

Emily N.

Yelp
The emo guy with glasses is a great bartender. Sometimes you have to be patient, but your beer it's worth it. He did let me eat part of a dog cupcake one time. I did bring it from home.
google avatar

Angela S.

Yelp
Fast service and refreshing drinks! Great selection too. Ambiance at the Glendora Public Market is casual, it can get crowded so it gets loud with decent background music. The Smog City Brewery corner has screens- sport bar style

Yelp
We went on a Saturday evening and it wasn't packed we found parking pretty easy and went right in! The beers were delicious and they had a wide selection of beer. Amazing atmosphere very chill and kick back

Jane L.

Yelp
I love this place ! PAUL is the best beer tender I have ever met. Everyone around me would agree. If you come into this joint and happen to be around Paul just know you're so well taken care of. The beer is great the staff is better and the environment is lively. Thank you so much to Paul for being so awesome and attentive. If owners are reading this review this guy needs a raise, he went above and beyond. 10/10 place !!! Try the mango mango michelada if it's in season!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Fun place to grab some beer while in Glendora Public Market. There's an extensive selection of beer. I got several sets of samplers and most of them were good.

Mike D.

Yelp
Amazing beers in a great location. Super friendly staff and a wide range of canned beers to go!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered a flight plus while taking the dog out. I was in a sour beer mood and all their sours worked. They just make good quality beer here and the beertender was friendly and knowledgeable. Keep it up Smog City!

Yelp
What's up: Visiting this place as part of the Yelp Community event. When we got here, we were excited to see this place open and decided to make a stop here before we end the night. Parking: Located in the Glendora Public Market, they have a decent amount of parking in their lot. Clean air drivers should be happy to know that they have designated spots located close to the entrances. Environment: Masks are required. Once you walk into the building, you'll be surrounded by different restaurants and various tables/seating areas. The Brewery is located in the large area with tables and seating, near Dog Haus. Hand sanitizer was readily available. Plenty of tables and seats were available in this area. What was ordered: Yelp Check-In offer of 3 tasters for $5 - Coffee Porter (just like coffee) - Is Ticking Clock (really light) - Bourbon Barrel OE (good flavor) Yay/Nay/Meh: Yay. The tasters Check-In offer was great and gave us the opportunity to try different beers as we finished up our night at the Glendora Market. Staff member was friendly and they even have Smog City Brewing gear available for purchase. Be courteous and don't forget to bring your finished glasses back to the counter. Credit cards are accepted.

Yelp
Smog city Brews are inside Glendora's public market. It's has a wide variety of brews for everyone. The employee who helped us had such a great vibe. The set-up is super clean & inviting. She gave us a few samples to choose from. We got 2 brews and 3 tasters as well. All of the brews were flavorful. Great spot to grab some brews with lunch or dinner.
google avatar

Ann T.

Yelp
I'll be completely honest. I'm a super baby when it comes to drinking, so I can barely muster even the smallest sip. Despite this, the tiny sips I took, I did enjoy the tasters that I got to try here ($5 for 3 tasters for the passport to Glendora Public Market for August). I got to try the "New Normal", "Cuddlebug", and one of these darker beers that had the taste of black coffee, not bad. Cuddle bug tasted a bit like wine too me. The lady working was super nice and helpful. Additionally, the worker who was bussing tables made sure our glasses were handled ASAP. They also sell their pint glasses and merchandise!
google avatar

Vivian P.

Yelp
The beertender was super accommodating and was a champ (handled a longgg line by himself). He was helpful with recommendations since I don't normally drink beers. For a fruiter beer, he recommended Snugglebug and even let me sample it before I ordered! I also got a Mango Pango which was just as good. Will be back. They sell their glasses (not the shot ones) for $4!

Yelp
A pleasant surprise to find Smog City Brewing inside the Glendora Public Market. The bar is huge and has an expansive selection of brews. This is a great place to compliment your meal. We complimented our burgers from Dog Haus with a 16oz glass of Little Bo Pils, a smooth blonde ale that wasn't too overwhelming and didn't bloat us up. CONS: The very TIGHT parking spots. If there is no lot parking you can find street parking. Enjoy your visit!

Yelp
Here it is, unique brewery visit #150. No, not I have been to a brewery 150 times but I have been to 150 different breweries! And I'm going to visit them all, because...goals. Smog City Brewing, Glendora chapter, is in a cool little food court area which apparently used to be a Wonder Bread bakery. Wonder Bread is the best bread to use for a Turkey sandwich post-Thanksgiving dinner by the way. "These are the facts of the case and they are undisputed." (Movie reference. Free beer to the first person to name the movie and of course coordinate meeting at a brewery or something so I can pay up.) SCB is not doing flights unfortunately, or maybe fortunately because they had a lot of beers on tap and it might have killed me. I'm not as good as I once was, but I am as good once as I ever was...regardless of what my wife says. Anyway, SMC was complying with all of the ridiculous mandates including putting a freaking plastic lid on my beer before I walked to my table. So much for that whole plastic bag thing California... I started out with the Saber Toothed Squirrel, a hoppy amber ale. I had tried this before but knew I liked it. Nice amber ale all around. I moved on to the Bourbon Barrel O.E., an aged barley wine and this was the highlight of my night. (Don't tell my wife!) I wrapped the evening up with a Schwarzbier that was really good. The location here has multiple food options. Chicken sandwiches, sushi, tacos, hot dogs and hamburgers, etc. you have a lot of options and everything we tried was great. Having los of food options is great, and SCB has a host of beers on tap which makes sure everyone can find something they enjoy. Well, maybe except those weird seltzer people. SMC had some really good beers. I would really like to make it to the Torrance location one of these days. If anyone is a glutton for punishment, please, follow my brewery, and distillery, reviews from across the U.S. and beyond! https://www.yelp.com/collection/-8iscFkpiiCI563-FDfwGg and if anyone is wondering who SWPFTD is you will have to check out my review of Black Market Brewing Co in Temecula, CA to understand. Yes, you will need to read into it a little to get the joke but I have confidence in you!

Brittany R.

Yelp
Such a great time! The suggestions from Paul were spot on and his light mood and fun personality was the highlight of our night. Great service!

Mark M.

Yelp
Shout out to Tony. Knowledgeable and friendly. A pleasure to be served. He happily provided us with samples. my selection was great.

Yelp
Great place and such nice service bartender recommendations were on point also lots of places to eat next door which made the experience even better
google avatar

Tracy K.

Yelp
This spot is located within the Glendora Public Market . There is plenty of seating no matter what time of day I go. I wanted something that tasted like a Hefe. The bartender suggested from LA Wit Love. According to the website it's , "Belgian Wit Beer | 4.8% ABV. Belgian-inspired wit beer with coriander, sweet orange peel, and bitter orange peel." It tastes pretty close to a Hefe. It was a nice light beer. Bartender was awesome.
google avatar

Luciente G.

Yelp
Delicious beers. Loved the market layout so we could order whichever food we wanted. Always like a digital menu. I liked that they offered to make any beer a michelada which I tried with I believe a mango beer and it was great! Hubs was very happy and tried quite a few while we were there. Bought some glasses and swag from the store as our souvenirs from this road trip. Will definitely be back when visiting So Cal again.
google avatar

Vanessa F.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite weekday spots to grab lunch with a beer on my day off. The venue itself isn't too crowded mid weekday so there's plenty of seating. The beertender (I think Javier) is his name is awesome, friendly, and welcoming. My favorite's so far are the Kumquat, the IPA, and Mango Pango. I haven't been on a weekend yet, so I can't say how crowded it gets but I imagine it gets a steady flow of people.
google avatar

Alex C.

Yelp
This place is great nestled in the Glendora marketplace. There are a lot of seats around the place or you can seat at the bar. The gentleman who helped us was well informed knows his beer. Snugglebug was the choice this night. Sour but packs a punch. It'll sneak up on you though. But mango pango is the one I'll try next time. He hooked me up with a sample. That flavor was great too. Next time. There is a fridge packed full of the beers to go too. Great service and variety of flavors your in the mood for.
google avatar

Pauline W.

Yelp
Once again fantastic service! I switched it up today and got the Smog city beer instead of my go to which is the snugglebug!!! Tony suggested the switch up and I couldn't be happier!!

Yelp
Chill vibe, good beers & friendly staff. I've had a few beers from the brewery quite awhile back & I remember liking them enough to check out one of their actual brewery locations out in Glendora. Plus the Yelp check-in deal of 3 tasters for $5 sold me. I usually gravitate more towards the sour &/or fruited beers so I was happy a few options sounded enticing. I ended up getting the Kumquat Saison, Mango Pango. For my third taster I went with a stout, Coffee Porter. All 3 were pretty decent with nothing being a major letdown, which I'm good with. The sour/fruit both came off pretty light in a refreshing way, nothing so strong in the sour aspect or the respective fruits. You'll usually find a coffee stout if a brewery is selling stouts & the Coffee Porter is worth a a try. You'll definitely smell (& taste) the coffee flavor right away without it being too overbearing to turn you off. For me, along with the good beers of course, it's a cool staff which will bring me back to a brewery. & The guy who helped me out was just that. He excitedly greeted me as I walked up to the counter & just had a good energy overall. He even asked how I liked the beers when he picked up one of the empty taster cups at my table. Much appreciated. They are basically the furthest in vendor as you walkthrough the market. There was a nice selection of different styles of beer available so you should be able to find something you like. There's also a little "store" in the back where you can get cans to go as well as pickup some merch. It's common to go to other breweries & they have one or maybe a couple of food trucks. Since you're in this food hall you have even more options if you want to grab some food while drinking. Which I see as a win. Honestly based off this overall experience, & if I was more local, I could definitely myself grabbing a few (or more) beers with friends here on an often basis. I went for an early dinner on a Saturday so seating was very easy since a fair amount of tables were open. Feel free to check out my review on the Glendora Public Market in general for a little more insight on the place. Cheers!

Yelp
So excited to see a Smog City in the SGV. Another quiet Sunday during the covid days so we came here for some tasters. There's a Yelp special: 3 tasters for $5. We got Saber Tooth Squirrel, Ticking Clock and the hazy Park Hopper. All were good - 4 oz. pours. It was pretty crowded so we went out to the shaded patio. Lots of food choices in the market. Parking is good.
google avatar

Anthony L.

Yelp
OMG this beer server (Vanessa) what a horrible customer service. First time here and had a question about their beers and nothing but attitude from her. They had a good selection and ambiance with the Dodgers game on but will not return all because of her attitude.
google avatar

Jessica N.

Yelp
Located inside the Glendora Public Market which makes it a great spot to grab some beers, food, desserts, etc. all in one visit. Parking wasn't too hard in their lot. There seems to be plenty of seating inside and outside for everyone, but Smog City has a bar up front with a few extra seats. They have a menu where you can pick and choose your pour/testers. The people working behind the bar all seemed extremely chill and fun to talk to. They'll give you recommendations if you ask. We got a sample flight with 3 different pours but they don't label them. So you have to remember the names if you want to come back and ask for more. Luckily the guy that was helping us managed to know which beer I was talking about given my awful clues, lol. I enjoyed their IPA's and I would definitely come back.
google avatar

Kelly W.

Yelp
For people who like sour beer or strong beer this is your brewery! They have so many variety of beers that you can try and all of them are amazing! I am a huge fan of sour beer and I basically tried all the sour ones they have. I can said they have the best sour beer so far! There is one unique beer Called the bourbon barrel... it's a must if you like strong whiskey! The beer basically tasted like whiskey with a hint of beer!
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
The service here is great, started coming here a couple weeks ago and it's one of my favorite spots to kick back and have a few beers. The menu selection here is large and tasty, pairs well with the food from dog haus that's right next to it.

Amanda T.

Yelp
I've been to quite a few breweries and taprooms, and I must say, Antonio, the Italian @smogcitybeer_sgv, is THE BEST beertender out there. He knows YOUR perfect beer before you even do. Not only are his recommendations fore, his personality burns the house down. Visit @smogcity_sgv for great beer and great times!
google avatar

Jaime L.

Yelp
Great brews and Beertenders. Ask for Scarlet & Javi. They will guide you through the brews and make you laugh in between. Their taps are always revolving so come by whenever and always try something new. Try the forgotten Forrest if you can! Cheers!
google avatar

Susan P.

Yelp
I have been coming here for trivia for over a year now. The guy who is regularly here is incredible. However, I have not seen him in a while and since then I have been dealing with new employees. I know at times people leave and new ones come but the new staff here are very unprofessional. There are kids coloring at the bar (don't know if that's legal) but it takes away from the adults who are there to drink and old enough to sit at the bar. The blonde girl was paying way too much attention to people at the bar while taking shots instead of helping customers in line. The tall guy with the mustache is inappropriate and rude and the other guy is always drinking and seems drunk most of the time. This breaks my heart because I love smog city and their beer. I also love this place because it is right around the corner from my house. I guess it's time to find a new trivia spot unfortunately.
google avatar

Casey F.

Yelp
I've been here a few dozen times - it's my go to for brews on the go. The beers are always fresh and the service is top notch and super friendly. There's a large fridge in the back packed with 4 packs which makes it perfect for a quick grab and go. The selection is excellent and you can always find something you're looking. The location is also super convenient (inside the public market), surrounded by great food options, this place is a great spot to watch the game or enjoy with the fam.
google avatar

Darla D.

Yelp
I stopped by, it's a nice cool local place to hang out, grab a bite and enjoy some beer. I like darker beer; I asked the server behind the counter for her recommendation. She was on point, and I was not disappointed. I will come back again soon. If you are in the area and in the mood for a cold beer for a midafternoon break you won't be disappointed. Good service and good beer overall.
google avatar

Robert A.

Yelp
Super cool place to hang out. Many great food choices as well. Could not ask for nicer people at Smog City SGV.
google avatar

Mike F.

Yelp
I usually grab a beer here when I stop in to grab food about once a week. I like the location --- multiple choices for food (so everyone's happy), and a good selection of beer to drink there or to go. The beertenders are always welcoming and helpful. Service is quick, even if there happens to be a long line.
google avatar

Clarissa T.

Yelp
I went to the Glendora Public Market for Dog Haus and ended up staying for the brews. The staff were very friendly, patient and helpful. I did not feel rushed as all while trying to decide what to get. I ended up getting the little taster sized cups and for an indecisive person like me, it was perfect. I liked all 3 of the beers I got and would come back again! I found out after my visit that there is a yelp deal for 3 tasters for 5$. Super worth.

Linda L.

Yelp
Truly enjoyed our visit. So much to choose from. Great surroundings with a lot of food options to go with your beer. Great music as well. Thanks Scarlett we enjoyed our visit
google avatar

Carolyn G.

Yelp
Great beer selection! Plenty of places to eat while enjoying drinks too. Grabbed a 4-pack to go before we left
