19 Iconic Dishes That Define London - London - The Infatuation

"This is a famed sandwich sophisticate. It has beauty, charisma, class, sex appeal. OK, forget that last one, but Quo Vadis is a sexy, British bolthole of bliss in Soho and this is their complex, clever star. On the outside, uniform rectangles of fluffy sourdough from Poilâne. Inside, a line of smoky eel chunks standing to attention and an absolute face-slapper serving of mustard and horseradish cream." - daisy meager, jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, heidi lauth beasley

I had my graduation dinner and hosted ( 23 Adults and 5 young ones).I can say that it was the best decision ever. The food was great, the customer service was excellent and the wait staff was wonderful enough to get some flowers for the tables at no extra cost.Despite running late , we were not rushed out. The communication and flexibility on the menu change was just excellent. Will definitely make it a top spot for me. You will not be dissapointed. Thank you for making my day memorable with the excellent service and great food.

Just dined at Smoke and Barrel for the first time but we will definitely be back. We don't typically go out on Valentine's Day but the three course menu made service efficient and the food was incredible. My husband had two Old Fashions which were unlike any Old Fashion he had ever had in the best way. I ordered the wine paring that did not disappoint. We are looking forward to going back for brunch sometime soon!

Neat little spot, they have daily specials, so I had to try it. Sunday night is 1 LB Ribs + a side + cornbread. The ribs were very tender, I definitely enjoyed them. Personally I REALLY liked the dry rub better but the sauce was good as well. Fries are solid, nice crunch and substance. Also had a hint of sweetness. Cornbread wasn't the most flavorful thing, though the texture isn't bad, moist and not too crumbly I will definitely come back to try other items here. Also they have a sink OUTSIDE the bathroom which is super nice because a lot of people just want to wash their hands so, that's a plus in my book. Service was really good when I came. You can get the ribs with either sauce or a dry rub, and the waitress could tell I wanted to try both(despite me choosing the dry rub) and she came back to help me out with that. (if you get a server named Fantasia, you are in good hands!)

I had an amazing time at Smoke and Barrell! The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, perfect for enjoying a night out with friends. The smoked meats were absolutely delicious, and the craft cocktails paired perfectly with the meal. The staff was friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. I love how they have live music on weekends—it really adds to the fun vibe! Whether you're looking for great food or a lively evening, Smoke and Barrell is the place to be. Highly recommend it! The happy hour is great off main st. They are open now. They are a bar. Great appetizers! Wings are so good. Espresso martini.

My biggest regret was that I did not visit sooner. Richmond is sleeping on this place. I had heard the cocktail program here was impressive, and expected as much—and it was—but my entree here was one of the best I’ve had in months. After bar hopping and having appetizers and sharing an entree at another restaurant, I ordered the pork ribeye with grits and collard greens. I am usually more of a beef or lamb person, but I was intrigued by the pork and the bartender assured me it was among the better menu options. In all seriousness the that dish was one of the best pork dishes I have ever had. The service was exceptional. Randall, the bartender, was amazing and very personable. Ordered two cocktails on his recommendation. Atmosphere was great. Beautiful and classy inside. If I hadn’t had apps and other drinks elsewhere I’d definitely tried other dishes and drinks. The Oaxacan Old Fashioned and Wabbit Season were well crafted and balanced. Can’t wait to return.

We found our new favorite place to dine! We walked in for our reservation and we were immediately greeted and seated. The dining area is modern yet comfortable. We started with the southwest nachos. They were loaded and perfectly plated. Every nacho had toppings and there was no fighting over the best chips. I got the pineapple fizz cocktail and my husband tried an old fashioned. Both cocktails were delicious and flavorful. For entrees, I got the duck breast which was perfectly cooked. The hash on the side was creative and delicious. The portion was large. My husband got the steak which was served with asparagus and mashed potatoes. My husband cleared the plate and truly enjoyed his entree. The steak was cooked perfectly. We got a second round of cocktails which were also unique. I love how curated the menu is. You can tell how much thought and care was put into every single item on the menu. Our server, Savannah, was wonderful and attentive. After our meal we chatted with one of the owners as well as the bartender. Everyone made us feel incredibly welcomed. We had such a great experience and we will definitely be back!

I went here around lunch time and was pleasantly surprised that they did brunch. They have a good cocktail menu as well as plenty of options for food. I had an espresso martini, apple turnovers, and the bay omelet. All were very tasty. Would highly recommend.

Google
Had some cocktails and lunch here on a Sunday. The staff was super nice and helpful, and was able to serve us efficiently despite the 20 person party that took over the small restaurant. Like most new places in Richmond, it kinda feels like it wasn't designed to keep you there long. The place is really nice, but the lack of soft surfaces make it incredibly loud in there. The food was delicious and the drinks were great too!

Yelp
Had a reservation at 5:30. Walked in and stood at empty hostess stand for 10 min not even greeted. Full bar every seat taken, but every table was empty. By the time one of the bar tenders started to walk over we had already decided to leave. Told her thank you but no thank you.

Yelp
Always five stars!! Amazing food, nice atmosphere, and such a personable team. We had a large group for book club. Our server gave wonderful recs and even crafted up some personalized mocktails. The cocktails were easily as amazing as the Caesar said was fresh and had the perfect crunch and the right amount of dressing. My friends enjoyed the barrel roads and the empanadas. My burger was cooked to perfection and was super juicy. A nice balance between the burger and the toppings!

Yelp
Nice little location that just opened up. We started off with the hummus appetizer and it was ok. Nothing super special and not very flavorful. My wife ordered the fried chicken sandwich with fries, my daughter ordered the wings and I got the pulled pork nachos. The wings turned out to be the best thing we ordered. Everything else was a little on the bland side and there was very little pulled pork on the nachos but if your bite actually included BBQ sauce it was tasty but other than that, ehh. We did not come here for drinks though, so if that is part of your the rest of it would probably be better.

Yelp
My friend and I were looking at trying a new spot and I thought smoke and barrel looked interesting. The service was excellent and the ambiance is very cute and cozy. We tried the eggrolls and the empanadas for appetizers and the brisket carbonara to share. Both of the appetizers seemed more dough/batter than filling. The flavor of filling was good, I just wish there was more of it. The carbonara was good. I really enjoyed the flavor but was a bit fatty which can happen with brisket. I would give it another try.

Yelp
Smoke & Barrel just recently opened in the old Lady Nawlin's space on Main Street in The Fan. I had never been to the space previously, so I was a bit surprised by the low ceilings. The sound level is fairly deafening, so that's one thing to keep in mind. My friend and I were seated in a two-top across from the bar. I ordered the market fish sandwich, pollock, with a side caesar salad, which incurs a $1 upcharge over some of the other available sides. The salad could've used a touch more dressing and the sandwich would've benefitted from a little bit more garlic aioli, but those are obviously personal preferences. I enjoyed both items. Service was pretty rushed, almost more like a fast-casual spot than a hang-out and catch-up type of establishment. In the future, I would order at least an appetizer also, because the sandwich and salad weren't filling at all. My friend had the black bean burger and fries and said the same thing. We made another stop for more food after dinner. Overall, I'd say they're off to a good start, and would check them out again in the future.

Yelp
Just enjoyed an AMAZING dinner of Pork Ribeye and Grits at Smoke & Barrel! Great staff and relaxed atmosphere. My new favorite restaurant in Richmond!

Yelp
A gem. Food was excellent.. service was good. Our party of three cleaned our plates. Pricing was very reasonable!

Yelp
My boyfriend and I enjoyed Dinner at this Brand new restaurant located in The Fan. Lady Nawlins used to be located here. We did not hold back when it came to ordering their craft cocktails. I sipped on two Kentucky pain killers and my bf ordered a few smoked old fashions. For appetizers we started with the smoked wings, and chorizo & potato empanadas. Our bartender told us what customers are ordering the most entree wise which enticed me to order the smoked duck. My bf enjoyed the Bistro tender steak. I'm looking forward to another date night here.

Yelp
Came in for brunch, the server was super attentive and the food was great. I'm Not sure if the bloody Mary's were pre-maid mix but they could have been a bit better. Make sure to make a reservation on the weekends so you can get a spot!

Yelp
Was looking for a new brunch spot and we stumbled into here. We ended up getting 3 espresso martinis, a holiday drink (I'm sorry I cannot remember the name but it was good), and I absolutely loved the weird BLT cocktail which I think was a take on a Bloody Mary? It was honestly really tasty and fun. Also I got the biscuits and gravy and my boyfriend got some kinda bowl I'm sorry I also don't remember the name but also good and had the word cookies in it lol. The best part was our waitress who was also name Erin was super funny and charming and I had a blast the whole time. The service was awesome so thank you for a great experience!

Yelp
Fantastic! Give the pork and grits a go! I've had pork, it's always overdone, over cooked, no flavor. Doesn't happen here! And the collard greens and grits are an accompaniment. Also beautifully done. Their cab is incredible. Get after it!

Yelp
Went to Smoke & Barrel for the first time on their Monday smash burger deal night. One of the best deals in the city is a $12 burger, fries, and a beer. Service was great and food was all very fresh.

Anita C.

Yelp
I ordered the duck from this "restaurant". I don't know if this place doesn't care how they prepare their food or if they were rushing but that's not an excuse for hoe they threw my food together. They didn't even add the sides that come with the meal! If you want to waste your money on overpriced food, then this is your o

Yelp
A friend and I went on a Saturday night. After leaving I was baffled why it wasn't busier. Every single thing we ordered was absolutely delicious! The older drunk couple and the city taxes were both a bit annoying, but other than that, this place is TOP NOTCH and had some of the best food!!! Will for sure be back!

Yelp
I was really hopeful for another southern brunch spot but this missed the mark for me. The food lacked any flavor, but most offensive the eggs Benedict was served with an egg over hard (what?!) and cold hollandaise (what?!?). The food was so off-putting, I have no desire to ever go back. & the entire place looked like it needed a good scrub.
google avatar

Delaney S.

Yelp
AMAZING espresso martinis, was my first time here and was just getting drinks with a friend but will definitely be back to check out the food as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Good service and food. Music was a little loud because we were seated close to the speaker. Made conversations require a bit more effort than normal. Wings were surprisingly juicy with good sauce. Bbq sauce is also a winner. Burger had good flavor and the fried fish sandwich evaporated off the plate. Waiting for dessert to hit the menu before returning but I will be back.

Yelp
Amazing spot all around! I came from out of town and stumbled upon this place. I was treated so well, the vibes were classy and casual, and THE FOOD. I ordered the crab cake omelet with the espresso bourbon martini **chef's kiss**. Must stop if you're in the area! And if you're unfamiliar with Richmond, ask for Jeremy to share with you his favorite spots.

Yelp
I am a very quality picky food person. I have to say LOUDLY that this Food is AMAZING! I Had the S & B Omelette made with house smoked brisket and it was TO. DIE.FOR.AMAZING! The Cornbread muffins UNBELIEVABLE DELICIOUS. Chef Andy did not disappoint! I am just so happy so satisfied! Wishing this place all the best wishes. WILL BE BACK with friends and family! CONGRATULATIONS

Yelp
This is a fairly new restaurant that is in the Fan District of the Richmond City ecosystem. The renovations and the ambiance are modern, and the vibe of this establishment is relaxing. During this experience, I ordered the smoked wings-$14, broccolini-$4, and the corn muffins-$8. First, the smoked wings did not have any flavor and weren't anything close to being "smoked." I would describe the wings as tasteless; however, they do have a fried crispy texture, which will temporarily fool you into thinking you're about to have a bite of delight. The corn muffins were rather stiff and also lacked a consistent flavor profile. Nevertheless, they do have corn kernels stuffed in the interior, which didn't change the bland flavoring of the muffin. They do give you four muffins, I could only eat a few small bites off of one (why waste calories). The broccolini was rather tough and detailed a robust flavoring of butter, instead of a balance of garlic and olive oil. My coworker liked them, so I digress. Needless to say, I was disappointed by this experience. When you compare the costs vs. the quality of the food items that were ordered, I feel this opinion is fair and just. Overall, the experience wasn't good for me, and I doubt I will come back in the future.

Yelp
Super friendly staff that work amazingly as a team. I arrived to a half full restaurant and it very quickly filled up. These two ladies didn't miss a beat! When i asked for a second beer, it was there in 30 seconds, brought by her colleague. This happened several time to other guests who also commented on the speed of service. Some kind of magical communication system! Not that anything felt rushed, i. The contrary. U was there for brunch, no option for anything else. Given the compact size of the kitchen it makes sense. I had the brisket hash with bbq sauce hollandaise. I like my eggs over medium, a tough request that most cooks can't handle for some reason. This one was perfect. Overall the dish was delicious. I was not a fan of caramelized sugar on my home fries but a good dose of hot sauce would fix that. I will go back for lunch or dinner for sure.

Yelp
Service was great, very nice atmosphere, great hand crafted bar drinks. Food was subpar especially for the price - multiple menu items they were out of and we weren't told that they ran out of home fries (I assume our server was tired of telling us they didn't have anymore of X item) so we were given French fries that had a sweet seasoning on them and just didn't match the taste paired with our omelettes. We were so disappointed, if we had known we would have opted for a better brunch side like the fruit or grits. Overall would go back and try it again for lunch or dinner but it really needs a step up in food quality and availability!

Daniel P.

Yelp
Small place, but the atmosphere was very pleasant and service was good. Not a huge menu, but good variety of options and the food was great!

Chelsea T.

Yelp
I had a takeout burger. It was good, a normal burger but nothing special and not worth the cost. I had asked for onions on it and they were no where to be seen. The truffle fries were delicious but a bit greasy. My coworkers liked their meals okay, but the one who had the brisket carbonara had horrible diarrhea, indigestion, and heartburn. All the peptobismol in the world wouldn't have helped him.

Hunter C.

Yelp
Loved this place. Casual but great food. The duck is sublime and the crab cake simply wonderful. A very interesting cocktail list. Some I loved, a few others were too sweet for me, but all were fun to try. Our server gave us several good pairing recommendations. The GM, I believe her name was Rickee, stopped by during our meal and was delightful. Definitely will be back.

Kerry S.

Yelp
Stumbled across this place. SOOO GOOOD!!!! We had the duck and the pork ribeye. Both were absolutely delicious. I have to say this may be the best pork I've ever eaten!!!! The margaritas were solid too!!!

Dennis D.

Yelp
Would recommend for the under 21 crowd. Reminded me of my college days with the overly loud music, mediocre food, and too close for comfort atmosphere. The dark and stormy was undrinkable.

Jackson H.

Yelp
Smoke & Barrel has one of the best burgers I've ever eaten in a classy eatery with wonderful whiskey and an old-fashioned to die for. It's a bit overpriced, but very cool and great for a special occasion. Definitely need a reservation for a table on the weekend.

Teri R.

Yelp
Had our monthly midnight supper club gathering at Smoke and Barrel last night. There were eight of us and everyone thoroughly enjoyed everything! Our server, Sydney was fabulous - very knowledgeable and made some great recommendations. We tried four of their appetizers (nachos, empanadas, chicken wings - dry rub!!, and cauliflower wings), both desserts and several of their main dishes. Everything was on point, and the drinks were fabulous as well. Definitely recommend and will be back!

Erin M.

Yelp
So tasty! There is so much more on the menu I want to try! We will be back for sure. Erin helped provide excellent service as well.

Matthew D.

Yelp
We checked out Smoke & Barrel two nights ago and it did not meet expectations. The restaurant is beautiful, the prices are high and the service is god awful. They are charging a premium price for mediocre food and small pours of beer. The smoked duck tasted like a microwaved hotdog and the brisket carbonara was incredibly dry and bland. The wings were great, really enjoyed the dry rub. The waitress was nice but needs more training, didn't know the names of beers or how to describe menu items. It's a cool new hip spot but can't imagine it'll last long. The only reason this place is busy is because of who the people that own it, but that'll slowly fade. Just another crap concept money grab.

Diane R.

Yelp
What a wonderful new restaurant in the Fan at the corner of Main & Stafford streets! the food was excellent! we had steak and brisket carbonara with corn muffins and cocktails! I'll be back soon! Chef Andy Jones created a great menu with tasty options for everyone.

Jade W.

Yelp
Our new favorite spot! the service is great, menu is amazing and the atmosphere is perfect for all occasions. our steak was absolute perfection and all of their appetizers are delicious. Cant wait to go back and try everything on the menu !

Yelp
Ive been so excited to try this new spot and I can say it exceeded my expectations! The renovations are beautiful very cozy and intimate little spot. I peeped the menu as soon as they opened and had my eye on the Brisket Carbonara. It was even more delicious than I expected! Creamy, flavorful, perfectly al dente noodles and the brisket, tender and delicious. and the corn muffins!!! SO good. I also had the espresso martini as recommended by the bartender and it was one of the best i've had in the city. My friends enjoyed the chicken sandwich with fries (the fries were so hot, crispy and delish), empanadas and caesar salad which I of course had to sample and everything was delicious. Our server was also amazing, so sweet and very accommodating. I wish I remembered to take pictures of our food because presentation was beautiful as well but everything looked so good we couldn't wait to dig in! Also portion sizes were great I was even able to bring home leftovers to enjoy for lunch the next day. I cant wait to return here for a date night with my boyfriend.
