I had a delightful dining experience at Smoke. The food was excellent, with a special mention for the venison dish—the reduced gravy was superb. The scallops were quite punchy, although the Thai spice did dominate the other flavours. Nonetheless, the black pudding bites were a pleasant surprise for me, as someone who generally avoids black pudding!
Considering the chilly weather, it would have been nice to have had more warming dishes to complement the winter season, especially as the restaurant itself was a bit on the cool side. Despite these minor points, the overall flavours were very good.
The atmosphere was warm and inviting, with attentive service and a great playlist subtly enhancing the ambience. I particularly enjoyed the opportunity to add a song to the playlist—a lovely touch that made the evening even more special. The recommended wine pairings were spot on and truly enhanced the dining experience.
While I’m giving the food a 4/5, it was indeed very good. However, at this price point, I believe every dish needs to be perfectly balanced in flavour to warrant a 5/5 rating. Looking forward to my next visit!
