Yelp
FINALLY made it over to the new location -Munchies Cart Pod- for take out. I still don't know why good BBQ is so hard to find in Oregon but Smoke Squad (formerly Jekas BBQ) hits the sweet spot -sweet as in Top Notch- and they still have all the menu items you expect a great BBQ place to have: brisket, tri-tip, pulled pork butt, chicken, and ribs (pork & beef). Their website says they sell until they sell out, and they sell out every single day, so get there early. I love their sides too: BBQ beans, potato salad, collard greens that made my husband swoon, cole slaw (not the overly mayonnaised kind), macaroni salad, pesto rice and plain rice. The only thing missing from the menu I'd like to see is some good old-fashioned corn bread with honey butter, but maybe that's just me. Oh, and the BBQ sauce is perfect. Kinda "Kansas City-style" but maybe not quite as sweet and you can get it regular or hot on the side.
The first time few times we went (they were parked in the gas station parking lot on 99W, near Burgerville) we had the pork ribs a few times, the chicken a few times and the tri tip. This time we tried the pulled pork BBQ sandwich two sides, beans and cole slaw. SOOOOO DAMN GOOOD it should be illegal!!!! The meat is smoked daily for 13-14 hours in their 20-ft competition trailer using local fruit wood so that may be the secret. And talk about messy? I had to use a fork and knife to eat my sandwich and used about 45 napkins! It was worth every stain on my blouse!!!
There's a nice little covered patio area that looks like it's shared with some of the other food pods but with COVID and all, we took our food home. NOTE: I heard a rumor that new items are coming to the menu soon as is a Smoke Squad Tap House. They also do catering. How much better can it get???
