"Formerly known as Jeka’s, Smoke Squad has relocated into the Munchies Food Pod in Tigard, where the aromas wafting by from the massive smoker lure in patrons from other nearby carts. Smoke Squad smokes tri-tip and spare ribs super slow, over a mix of oak and fruit woods. Owner Jacob Nicholson isn't beholden to any particular region’s barbecue rubs or sauces of choice, instead preferring to put their own spin on barbecue, using techniques from a variety of regions." - Ron Scott

My son wanted some barbecue. This place came up for the area we were in so decided to give it a try. Simple menu. Got half rack of ribs and chicken sandwich. Food was good. Seasoning on ribs was great. You could see the cart owners big smokers in the back of the building. We sat inside and the tables, floor and bathroom were not very clean and the carts had just opened. My son and I were happy with the food!

Google
I had the smoked brisket sandwich. The meat was juicy and well-seasoned, if not a little too salty, but the sides left a lot to be desired. The coleslaw tasted like cabbage coated in plain Greek yogurt. It really missed the mark on balanced flavor. The macaroni salad had a very subtle flavor, but it was pleasant. Ultimately, the meat was the star of the meal which is what you want from a BBQ joint.

Google
No joke, born and raised Texan here with VERY high bbq standards. The brisket sandwich was absolutely off the chain. It was notably the best bbq I've had in Portland after living here for 5 years. All the options are good, but don't overlook the brisket sando.

Google
Searched on google maps and true enough, Smoke Squad does do very delicious BBQs and totally worth to detour to be here coming from half way round the globe. Staff attitude and service was excellent too. Totally recommended…

Google
First time coming here. It’s a bit hidden so you can’t see it from the road but I’m glad I found it ! I’m a big fan of bbq. And this 10/10!! ribs were so good. Meat fell right off the bone and had lots of flavor! Side were good too ! Cant wait to come back and try more things !

Google
I recommend to call to check for hours before going. They changed their time schedule and will be closed if they have catering events. Parking is really limited in the area and it’s hard to get back on high way 99 during busy hours. Food is great! I love their ribs and brisket.

Google
Gotta love driving 50 minutes to find the place is closed with no social media or google business updates. Here on Sunday at 3pm. I’ll try again some other day and update my review I guess. Bummer.

Google
I have been doing work in the area the last three days. I’ve eaten here all three days! I found them on google, just looking for some lunch. I am quickly working my way down the menu. Tried the brisket sandwich the first day, pulled pork sandwich second, and today I just had the Tritip sandwich. I honestly can’t decide which I like best, they are all awesome! I Highly recommend this place! I am working in the area for the next week and I will likely be back a few more times!

Yelp
When I'm craving smoked meat, this place is becoming my spot, and I like that they are close to where I live. The food is excellent and fairly priced. I'm looking forward to trying their ribs next time, since they were unavailable at my last visit - purveyor issue. Service is always friendly too. The ambiance is rustic outdoorsy with plenty of picnic tables.

Noah B.

Yelp
* Brisket sandwich 3.5 * ribs 2.5/5 * baked beans 1/5 - brisket was the only thing worth getting. Little to fatty - ribs were ok but kind of boring - beans were bad. Like boring and flavorless

Scott S.

Yelp
The brisket sandwich was great! It has some BBQ sauce and some pesto in there. I'd get it again. Buying it there was $13. Not much cheaper than what people were complaining about the delivery prices but also BBQ is just a pricier meal choice in general and I'll pay for quality. What I was not a fan of was the super loud Hawaiian music being blasted from the Food cart next door, I could barely hear the guy taking my order.

Yelp
What screams summer like BBQ!? That's right, nothing quite hits the same. Maybe for me, possibly cool ranch Doritos, but that's besides the point. If you guys are in the Tigard area hit up Smoke Squad! There is outside seating and seating in the indoor space and anyone can eat here as well, even from the other carts located on the property! *Chicken is a three step process before smoking and you can tell. So moistttt *Pulled pork - very good even without sauce! I really wanna get this in a sandwich next time. *Brisket is cutable with a plastic fork.... TENDER *RIBS WERE SOOOO GOOD. Top tier. Phenom and a must get item. He seasoned the ribs and brisket with just salt and pepper which gives it a good crust. But I LOVE this cause then you can have the free reigns on dunkability of the sauces. And kinda control how much sauce you want. SAWCES -Regular - delicious, tangy, sweet -Spicy - delayed spice which was fun! Didn't know when it would hit. By far my favorite and is spicy. -Vinegar - lots of cumin for a Mexican flavor & a little apple cider vinegar. SIDES: -Potato salad- Perfect in my opinion. Savory and a little extra vinegary- possibly from the addition of lots of mustard but I like that! -Pesto ranch rice -- um? I too was very curious. It's just as good as it sounds -The bbq beans are super good and hearty cause he uses red beans. Not spicy, just the perfect amount of sweetness bbq -Cole slaw is fresh, light, & not too over bearing with flavor which is a nice compliment in between such flavorful bites! 〰Also, such good tunes! Which is a big plus to me

Yelp
Pretty good though a bit pricey. We got the brisket, ribs, tri tip, and macaroni salad. Best of the bunch was the brisket by far. It was perfectly cooked and needed nothing added. Next best was the macaroni salad, it is much more akin to the Hawaiian style. It was a bit sweeter and worked well with the meat. The ribs and tri-tip were both good. The ribs were billed as just ribs so when we got short ribs, we were a bit surprised. I am very aware food is not currently cheap but I spent the same amount for just meat as I have paid for full meals.

Yelp
Even the best of places can have an off day. I suppose one measure of a truly good establishment is what will they do when things don't go well. After having a less than stellar encounter, the manager reached out to let me know they wanted me to give them another try. I'm glad I did. This time, the brisket was all brisket, moist, tender and a great flavor. The bbq beans were meaty, not overcooked, great flavor. The wife went for the ribs and agreed, pretty good 'que. She had the pesto rice, and while that wasn't bad, she preferred the potato salad from our first round. I appreciate their interest in their customers, the quality of food and I'll be going back when I'm in the neighborhood.

Peter F.

Yelp
Truly good but not with the price. 1/2 lb of chicken $13.75 excluding the tip. I can't justify paying that again. Would love to support this business but unfortunately I just can't afford to.

Benjamin H.

Yelp
I've gotten Ubereats takeout from this place a couple of times and it's very good. Have had a couple different sandwiches, lots of flavor in both. Decent potato salad and cole slaw. Best BBQ in Portland is Botto's but this is a great option that's closer to me.

Zac M.

Yelp
This is the best BBQ I've had since living in Texas. Fall off the bone ribs. Highly recommended!

Keaukai A.

Yelp
Awesome food! awesome service! Outdoor seating is perfect! Love the ambiance and the music playing at the food pod is great! Even with the not so perfect weather. It's a shame people leave bad reviews just to complain. Especially about music. Haha!

Shirley C.

Yelp
Love the food and service. The price was very reasonable, and the bbq ribs were more tender than almost all the places I have been.

Bradley J.

Yelp
This is the closest to Texas BBQ they I have had in Oregon. Finally a place I can goto over and over again!! My favorite was the smoked chicken and brisket

Cathy P.

Yelp
FINALLY made it over to the new location -Munchies Cart Pod- for take out. I still don't know why good BBQ is so hard to find in Oregon but Smoke Squad (formerly Jekas BBQ) hits the sweet spot -sweet as in Top Notch- and they still have all the menu items you expect a great BBQ place to have: brisket, tri-tip, pulled pork butt, chicken, and ribs (pork & beef). Their website says they sell until they sell out, and they sell out every single day, so get there early. I love their sides too: BBQ beans, potato salad, collard greens that made my husband swoon, cole slaw (not the overly mayonnaised kind), macaroni salad, pesto rice and plain rice. The only thing missing from the menu I'd like to see is some good old-fashioned corn bread with honey butter, but maybe that's just me. Oh, and the BBQ sauce is perfect. Kinda "Kansas City-style" but maybe not quite as sweet and you can get it regular or hot on the side. The first time few times we went (they were parked in the gas station parking lot on 99W, near Burgerville) we had the pork ribs a few times, the chicken a few times and the tri tip. This time we tried the pulled pork BBQ sandwich two sides, beans and cole slaw. SOOOOO DAMN GOOOD it should be illegal!!!! The meat is smoked daily for 13-14 hours in their 20-ft competition trailer using local fruit wood so that may be the secret. And talk about messy? I had to use a fork and knife to eat my sandwich and used about 45 napkins! It was worth every stain on my blouse!!! There's a nice little covered patio area that looks like it's shared with some of the other food pods but with COVID and all, we took our food home. NOTE: I heard a rumor that new items are coming to the menu soon as is a Smoke Squad Tap House. They also do catering. How much better can it get???

Gina H.

Yelp
Ordered the 1/2 pound brisket to go and one slice was almost all fat. If I weight the meat with and wihtout there was a 2 oz difference. The meat was super tender and full of smoky flavor. Almost too tender and more like mushy pot roast texture. Not sure I would go back again.

Tina S.

Yelp
*If* you time it right the BBQ is amazing. Unfortunately, over the last month we have stopped here 4 times and each time either a sign on the cart that they are "catering today" or they are out of BBQ meat. It makes me sad but we probably won't stop here anymore as we drive through town. Hopefully they can find someone else to help them out. I'm guessing it's just one person working very hard. Best wishes.

Maggie W.

Yelp
The brisket. Just get the brisket, omg. It is so amazing that I wanted to have thirds. The ribs are wonderful and so is the pulled pork. Also loved the beans and I am not even a big bean eater. Best smoked meat in Portland, great night.

Andrea H.

Yelp
Update: The owner reached out and offered a replacement meal. This used to be our favorite bbq place, and we're long time customers from their other location and prior to their name change. We used to love the brisket, but a couple of time over the last year we had extremely fatty brisket. So now we ask for lean brisket when we order, but we just ordered a 1lb of lean brisket and only about 1/4 lb was edible the other 3/4 lb was fat. It was so gross and disappointing. And to top it off we received one of the wrong sides

Andy B.

Yelp
I found some of the best BBQ in Portland near my house with amazing flavor and tenderness and the ability to buy in bulk, and of course I discovered this place as I was preparing to move away. Their brisket is my absolute favorite and I would buy pounds of it to take home and heat up for later. The chicken had a great smoked flavor to it and wasn't dry. And if you're going to get a side, you have to try the Pesto Ranch Rice, it's worth the upgrade! I will miss this place dearly and finding BBQ in my new home, despite being in the South, is going to be tough because Smoke Squad BBQ is the new gold standard for me.

C C.

Yelp
Meat Sampler was great. All 3 meats + a big rib and a side for $22. More than enough for 2 people. The Regular sauce was slightly sweet, not too spicy. Will buy again!

Helen W.

Yelp
I came from Texas, and looking for finger licking fall of the bone tender ribs has been my life mission for the past two years. I can't believe I found it right in my neighborhood. Now I am kicking myself for all those times that I could be eating ribs and more ribs. The meat is flavorful, super ooper Smokey, and falling off the bone. The bbq sauce is the bomb. Service is super quick. I will try the brisket and chicken next time, along with the ribs of course.

Dani B.

Yelp
The Brisket is soo good. I ended up not even using my sauce because it doesn't need it. The peppery bark is so good. They don't stop at the Barbecue here. They give just as much attention to the sides. The crunch in the macaroni salad is so fresh. The pickles are so good. Beans as well. So many places skimp on the sides. Not here. Everything's wonderful.

Andrew A.

Yelp
I finally had the opportunity to try as I'm usually only in the area on Mondays, the day they're closed. Overall solid! The ribs were great: tender, good fat % (that's where the flavor is), and perfect char. We also ordered the brisket and tri-tip: one was also great, but the other one that's thinly sliced was just average. The mild sauce was yummy, going for the hot next time though. The owner was cool and service was relatively fast. The cart is kinda difficult to find so remember they're located across from Fred Meyer on 99. Dang it, no photos.

Rossi B.

Yelp
Amazing food at very good price! If I knew how good it is, would have bought a lot more to take back to Seattle!

Janine F.

Yelp
Incredible food, super friendly service. I ordered the pulled pork slider, 1/2 lb brisket, baked beans and slaw. Delicious. The mustard sauce paired perfectly with the pulled pork. I got their other tasty sauces too. Be sure to get the pickles on the slider; perfect acidity with the meat n mustard.

James P.

Yelp
I'd like to say it was great, but I showed up an hour before closing and it was closed. No sign, no explanation, no people...nothing. Not very professional...won't be back.

Kenyahta S.

Yelp
Food was decent tasting, definitely can to use a bit of seasoning. However, the meat was tender and juicy (not fatty).

David F.

Yelp
Great BBQ. This was formerly Jeka's which was down 99 near the Burgerville. The brisket was tender with very little fat. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The spare ribs were perfectly smoked - fall off the bone yet the right amount of char. Will be back for sure.

Z N.

Yelp
fuck this place... They don't answer the phone you drive all the way out here from Beaverton and they are closed when they should be open. Real professional look guys I'm never coming here again.

Tolga W.

Yelp
Friendly staff and the brisket has been on point everytime I've stopped by. Also appreciate that they have shiner available!

Kohl M.

Yelp
Got the BBQ chicken sandwich. $8 may seem pricey but I dont have a barbecue or smoker sooo this was the next best thing. chicken was good. im a slaw snob and that was some good slaw. all around pretty good sandwich. ill likely be back.

Stacy G.

Yelp
Best bbq truck in Tigard. Pulled pork sandwich is delicious, so are the ribs and chicken. I will definitely be going back every chance I get.

Demah E.

Yelp
I had bbq from Smoke Squad and it is easily some of the best BBQ I have had since I've lived in the PNW. Being from Texas I usually have a craving for BBQ and I was so pleased with the food I got today. I ordered the 3 rib platter and I got some extra tri-tip on the side. There's a nice patio right by the food cart and I only had to wait a few minutes for my order. The bbq had great flavor and even the sides were absolutely delicious. I can't wait to go back!

Jennifer M.

Yelp
This is some of the best BBQ in Oregon. Some People do pub crawls or brewery tours... we do BBQ joint crawls. While this is food cart where you take your food home, their BBQ is on point. They have brisket on Thursdays and available until it's gone, so get there Thursday if you want it. Their sauces are wonderful and their cole slaw is so so so good. I haven't tried the other sides but have no reason to believe they aren't great too. Service is awesome and price point in at or below average for good BBQ! In fact they have a pulled pork sandwich for $6!! Yum!

Saje R.

Yelp
Best BBQ in the PNW! Meat is always does perfectly and the sides are delicious! Great people and great food!

Cesar D.

Yelp
This was a great find. It's in the parking lot of the Mobile gas station on HWY 99. Great tasting BBQ. We ordered the hotdog, and two small pull pork sandwiches. They were delicious. Good portions, great price. We enjoyed our food and the service we received. We will visit often.

Bart H.

Yelp
Fantastic BBQ. First time trying this place, and we were very happy. Everything had a great flavor, and was perfectly cooked. Everything was perfectly tender but not falling apart. We had brisket, spare ribs, and tritip. All was really good. Owner gave me a sample of the Mac and cheese and that was good too. We'll have it again.

Roman S.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong although unfortunately I can't give it higher stars yet this place has good bbq. There are a couple things that could be done to be rated higher. Jeka's is a small cart serving bbq. can get meat by 1/4, 1/2, and a whole lb. they can do platters with sides (around $14) or sandwiches ($11 for beef, $5 for chicken and $6 for pork). The bbq meat is well made and the sauce has good flavor. the sandwiches come on a generic hoagie roll with just meat on it and sauce. If you want you can add coleslaw, which will add a bit more to the flavor. The issue here are the generic buns. This is Portland (metro) after all and a nicer bun would be appreciated. This leads to the next issue. Their sides are Reesers brand. Not necessarily anything wrong with Reesers although I personally don't like their products. However, they are charging the same price as most places for house made sides. Hope they will start to make their own sides or at least source some better ones. Lastly, I wish they would ditch the styrofoam. Overall, this is a nice spot with reasonably priced bbq, just a couple things they could do to truly be rated a bit higher by me.

Scott H.

Yelp
Yes! Amazing bbq so close to my house and in a gas station parking lot so I don't have to get fancy or even get out of my car. I measure brisket by the utensils that I need to eat it. All I needed was a plastic fork and I dove right in to the melt in your moth goodness. The real test is if it will be good on any given day. My other favorite so aptly named by the numbered street it's located on, will have awesome brisket some days and others not so much. Jeka's hott dog is my spirit animal. Take this thing home and eat it alone with a wad of paper towels. The spicy link with the pork and slaw and beans make an amazing messy flavorful combination. If I had more occasions to eat where no one could watch me I'd order it that much more often. Yeah you could knife and fork it but the paper under neath it says "don't be a wuss, use your hands!" I love how some of the sides are just there out of obligation like "resers potato salad". If they aren't trying to hard on a side they'll let you know.

Matt Z.

Yelp
The spare ribs are the bomb.com! Good prices for BBQ as well. Love this place. Parking lot is a bit chaotic but just drive to the rear and down below is a large parking area.

Michelle S.

Yelp
I come here at least once a week because it is absolutely mouthwateringly delicious. The tri-tip is extremely tasty. I am currently obsessed with the bbq chicken sandwich. I take ribs home to my son and the meat is so tender and delicious, it just falls off the bone. I have loved every single thing they have prepared. The people are so warm and friendly. Cannot recommend it enough. I love bbq and this is my go to spot. They are closed on Sundays and Monday's or I would be eating there right now!

Frank C.

Yelp
Second trip for the bbq pulled pork, amazing! I snuck a 1/2 pound of the brisket into my order of sandwiches (yes I shared) outstanding! Great service and great food! Will be back.

Noah L.

Yelp
Brisket sandwich brisket sandwich brisket mother effing sandwich! Absolutely incredible. Ribs were stellar but that sando was next level.

Joshua M.

Yelp
The $5 chicken sandwich is beyond delicious. So delicious in fact that I went back and bought two more(one for me and one for my mom lol) The first one was like eating heaven. The next two had the same flavor but the meat was not as soft which is why I gave four stars instead of five. I'll definitely be going back again this week. This place is a must try.

Mario S.

Yelp
BOOOOMBBB!!!! I used to go to the food truck next door and one day when the line was too long I decided to give this place a try. And I'm glad I did because ever since I'm OBSESSED with this place!!! This is hands down the best BBQ IVE EVER HAD!!! The spicy bbq chicken sandwich is out of this world. Staff is really friendly too, unlike the place next door. Will continue to come here frequently.

Binh N.

Yelp
Previously named Jekka down 99! New location and best bbq you'll ever have in your life. Just go there, you will not regret a thing.

Ryan C.

Yelp
This is probably the best BBQ in Portland. I have been on a trip to Nashville recently and have been on a BBQ kick ever since. I have struggled, severely, finding decent BBQ in Portland, let alone amazing BBQ. I saw this place as driving past it and thought its be worth a shot since it's always got a line during the day. I stopped and got the best brisket I've had in Portland! Their spicy sauce is amazing, the brisket is perfect and the BBQ Red Beans...I've never had better. Serious pitmaster behind the scenes over here. Give it a shot if your thinking about it. You wont be disappointed in the quality! Thanks Jeka!

Lardoggies G.

Yelp
If you like BBQ this is the place to go. I usually get a full rack of ribs which is hands down the best I've found in Portland thus far. The ribs are always meaty and they offer two bbq sauces, mild and spicy. The chicken is also a must have. The staff is always friendly and you can usually find the owner (Jeka) tending the smoker, which by the way always smells great. A++

Chelsy R.

Yelp
I drive by this lot often and finally stopped in today. I ordered the half rack of ribs (fresh off the bbq) and oh my god they were delicious. The meat literally fell of the bones, their mild sauce was perfect and flavorful. The service was super friendly and helpful. Definitely check this place out, I usually don't eat BBQ but now that I've found them, that will be changing!

Matt F.

Yelp
It was a little more expensive that I expected for being a road side food cart. I bought an entire meal for a family of 5. However, I got home and realized what I paid for--high quality product smoked and grilled to perfection. This place was worth every penny and I go back whenever I can. Thursdays and Fridays are brisket night. Go then!!

Brian Z.

Yelp
Delicious! My wife had the tri tip sandwich, I had the brisket, and my son had the Jekka Dog. Good BBQ. We like it spicy, so we got the spicy sauce. Get extra napkins - messy but worth it!
