My husband and I decided to try out the Mixology class at smoked, having been patrons of the establishment previously. While we found the food quality to be a bit pricey for what it offers, we've always appreciated their cocktail selection and the ambience. So, despite our reservations, we thought it would be fun to give this Mixology class a try.
Unfortunately, our experience got off to a rocky start. Arriving early, we hoped to enjoy an appetizer and a drink before the class began. However, it took over 20 minutes to even get noticed at the bar leaving us with no time to order. This initial service hiccup reminded us why we hadn't frequented Smoked more often.
Nevertheless, we were there for the Mixology course, which turned out to be enjoyable, overall. The instructor was engaging, though a small microphone would've helped with the sound. We appreciated learning how to craft delicious drinks and picked up some useful tips along the way.
On the downside, the course description promised "savoring past appetizers", but what we got was a meager, self-serve charcuterie board with barely enough for a single bite each. For the price point, this felt underwhelming. Additionally, the lack of recipe cards or any means to jot down notes was disappointing. If you wanted to remember the ingredients, you had to rely on your own devices.
For a venue like Smoked, attention to the small details is crucial. If you're considering the Mixology class, I'd recommend eating beforehand, (but maybe not at the restaurant), bringing your own note-taking supplies, and perhaps some hand sanitizer for the messy part of drink-making.
In summary, while the Mixology class at Smoked had its highlights, there are areas where improvements could elevate the experience, especially considering the cost .
