A Showcase for Smoked Meat and Smoked Cocktails Opens at the Hotel del Coronado | Eater San Diego

"Opening Friday, July 14 at the Hotel del Coronado, I learned this 157-seat restaurant and bar revives a nearly 100-year-old laundry building that once operated a fleet of five laundry trucks around the island. Restored in 2021 as part of the Del’s $400 million redevelopment, the original brickwork was unearthed, the steam-powered conveyor system preserved, and a wooden bar dating to the 1880s was sourced from a shuttered Pennsylvania hotel to add vintage character. The indoor dining room includes two private rooms, while the kitchen—a smoker and a stationary food truck on the lawn near outdoor seating—will turn out brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and organic chicken with sauce choices like Carolina-style, peach mop, and a house-fermented hot sauce, and will also smoke vegetables such as heirloom carrots and slow-baked butternut squash. Open daily at 4 p.m., the concept even incorporates smoke into cocktails: the Sun Faded mixes bourbon rye, orange, lemon, triple sec, and apricot puree and is topped with an edible bubble of rosemary-infused smoke, while the Smokehouse cocktail blends whiskey, Aperol, and lemon and is served covered with a cherry-wood smoker." - Candice Woo

Found this place tonight which has apparently been open since September last year. Great food and drinks tucked away behind Rutters, if you blink you'll miss it. Owner is very down to earth and friendly, mentioned they had a hard early start with bad cooks etcs but I can tell you now they have ironed out any wrinkles. Food was delicious, couldn't decide and against my better judgement ordered the Three Amigos sandwich and holy crap. I couldn't unhinged my jaw to take a bite, so I had to go layer by layer and still had food for tomorrow. And if you're thinking about getting an Adult shake do yourself the favor and order it, Chefs kiss.

Hey this is a fun little spot! We were visiting from out of town for a mountain bike event. We had the choice of here or a pizza shop. We were quite happy with our choice. Lots of options. There was no wait for our seats. Friendly service. Music was playing, I enjoyed the music and the atmosphere. I just took a star off because you tried to sell a Philly cheese steak and it just wasn't. I knew better than to order it but my son got one, it needed some work. Plenty of parking, yup there is a dollar tree, just walk around the side If you are passing through and need some food check them out.

Good service. The food was great. Located behind the dollar general. We stayed at the Best Western next door. It was nice not to have to drive or the hassle to order door dash or Uber eats.

Grace is an absolutely wonderful young lady! She is witty and cordial, as well as a fantastic waitress. Very attentive to our requests and made some great suggestions. Drinks never got below 1/3 before she was making sure we had refills. The food was generally wonderful. I was with my two brothers on a Wednesday evening after a long day on motorcycles. We were staying next door at the motel, and this restaurant is literally 35 feet out the side door. Tracy, one of the owners, came by at our request, just to see if we could ascertain who thought up the fried pickles with peanut butter fluff as a dip, idea. I have no idea why it works so astonishingly well together, but it does. It was unusually good. The three of us are from VA, where drinking sweet tea is more of a religious experience than a simple beverage to be had. However, these fine folks nailed it. We each had one of the "signature sandwiches," and each was fantastic. Get the "Three Amigos", and bring some help! It's a delicious monster of an undertaking. This jewell of a restaurant is definitely worth a shot if you want some great food on a very wallet friendly budget!

Awesome bike friendly place. Food was amazing. Waitstaff on point and lots of fun things to stay preoccupied. Giant checkers and pool tables. The seating tables had a cool design engraved into them.

Food was really good and service and atmosphere pleasant. We were greeted with a smile. This was our first time here and we were pleasantly surprised but the quality of the food. Mash potatoes were made from real potatoes and the baked beans delicious. Ribs were not the best but the catfish was delicious. Prices a lot better than those chain restaurants.

We stopped here for the first time on a whim and seeing they got great reviews. We were not disappointed! Everything was delicious! Juicy burgers, wonderful pulled pork, and the meatloaf was delicious! The pickled eggs are made in-house and so good! Try a fry pie... yum!! The staff is also very friendly! We will definitely be back!

Let me start by saying the bartender was great! Shay was attentive, sweet, and someone you would want to come back to. The sad part is that the food does not make you want to come back. We tried the brisket, ribs, and sweet sausage. There was no smoking of the meats in fact I think it was boiled. The only way to get anything past your lips was if you put sauce on it. No flavor, very dry, and simply not good. This place has potential but until they increase their BBQ game we won’t be going back. Mission BBQ is better and that’s saying a lot!

Yelp
VERY limited menu. The menu online is old and 4 times bigger than the current one. You won't find anything healthy here. I was going to get the smoked wings , at a smokehouse, but they don't smoke them they deep fry them! Reluctantly went with the only other option which was a sandwich. Oh and if you're coming for the bar atmosphere, just be aware the 8 beers they have on tap are all cheap domestics. The sandwich was on a wonder bread bun that was soggy and it just fell apart. The pulled pork and Mac and cheese were both good. Service was decent for only one lady trying to cover the whole Bar. Overall, not a good experience. The Blaring Karaoke (Thursdays) didn't help.
