Smokey D'Z BBQ

We visited Smokey D’Z BBQ last Saturday after searching for BBQ in our area and ended up in Duncanville. The moment we walked in, the décor and atmosphere felt just right very nice, calm, and welcoming, with good music playing in the background. There was no wait time at all, which was a plus. The cashier was super friendly and went above and beyond. My partner originally ordered chicken, but they had run out. To make up for it, she gave us extra meat and even a free dessert. That level of professionalism and customer service really stood out! As for the food absolutely delicious. Everything we tried was flavorful and well-prepared. We left full and happy, and we will definitely be back again.

Great Food. Great Place. TLDR: Come get some food. If you want to have a good time and good with friends or family. Young or old. Come get some Smokey D’z BBQ. You will not be disappointed. Driving to the farthest southeastern bayou in Louisiana with no time to spare. We had to get there spend an hour. And turn around and head back to California. We knew we had to eat some Texas BBQ on our way back west. I looked up about 20 BBQ spots in the greater Dallas Area. After looking at pictures and seeing some reviews. We decided Smokey D’s would be our spot. We were correct. We pulled in to the parking lot and saw a Soul Circles Pizza Kitchen next door. And we love trying an inventive twist on pizza. But we stuck to our guns. And headed to Smokey D’z BBQ. Greeted before we even made it inside. I honestly don’t even know if it was an employee or just another patron with a welcoming vibe. Greeted again as we entered. When someone is excited to see you coming to eat at their establishment it is a good sign. Similar to showing up at Grandmas house for dinner. You know you’re eating good food and leaving with a full belly. Another enthusiastic employee welcomed us at the counter and helped us put together the perfect order. As we found a place to sit. We saw families. Friends. Couples. Elderly, Middle Aged and children all chowing down. Enjoying their loaded plates. We also noticed a live band setting up. WHAT! I know. I wish we had more time. We were checked on. Our food came out and it was great. Ribs. Brisket. Potato salad. Collard Greens (bomb add collard greens). We stuffed our faces. Again we were checked on at the perfect time. We needed some water refills. The ribs and brisket was not smothered in BBQ. You could taste the patience to season and cook the meat to perfection. A side of BbQ was provided as well, if that’s your preferred way to eat. The collard greens. I cannot tell you how good they are. A little local place on Georgia used to have my second favorite green, my wife’s are #1. But now Smokey D’s is the new number 2. As an older couple and their friends arrived. They were greeted. Brought to a table and cared for in the same way I was. This was clearly the standard set forth here. Helped The owner of Soul Circles Pizza Kitchen stopped by out table as well as others. He told us about his personal spin on and Smokey D’z stopped by our table. He let us know the brisket from Smokey D’z is on the pizza as well. The owner of Smokey D’z stopped at our table and others. Asked us about our meal. But more than that. They asked about us. Even the Chef/Pitmaster came out. Talked to a couple tables. Asked about or BBQ meal. I really started to think I was at my own families restaurant. The vibe was come eat. Come smile. Come laugh. Enjoy some music. Share time with each other. As the band began to play we unfortunately had to get back on the road. We still had 24 hours of non stop driving ahead of us. After a great meal. Great hosts. I snapped some photos so I could give a review. And… We headed out. Thank You Smokey D’z. It was great.

The potato salad had a vinegary taste with white onion and looked smashed. The rib tips were dry and seemed like they were microwaved before serving them to me. The baked beans had a funny tangy flavor. I’m a country boy from Georgia and I know good food. For the price of $19 I was not happy! I support businesses in this community but they need to reassess their business products.

I wanted ribtips and tried this place. I was very disappointed. I feel like the the tips were not meaty at all. The greens were overly salty and the Mac and cheese was just ok. However the kool-aid was good, but for the price again disappointed. As for the picture this is what the tips look like. I tried eating and just said forget it.

I purchased a chop beef sandwich, banana pudding, and 1/2 of smoked sausages. Service was very friendly. Maybe it was the time of the day but I didn't enjoy the food.

I didn’t care for the make but the ribs was good and they customer service was amazing!

Okay! I was in want of rib tips today and googled the best place for this. I went to Smoky D’Z BBQ at 215 W. Camp Wisdom Rd in Duncanville. Y’all, these were so delicious, tender and the fries were cook just right. I posted my pic before I started in on them. So, when y’all are tired of the routine holiday dinners (and we will get tired) go here for a great rib tips dinner with fries. I spoke with the owner and he shared that they make pizza too AND have bands every 3rd Thursday. You can also follow them on Facebook to track the stage scenes. Well, time to chime out and chow down. I had rib tips, beans, potato salad and peach cobbler. The rib tips and beans were decent. A few rib tips were so tough I couldn’t eat them. I ended up throwing the potato salad away. It tasted like it was made with dill relish instead of sweet relish because the pickle taste was so strong & the flavor was really off. I also ended up throwing the peach cobbler away. It was heavy on the nutmeg and soggy. I’m not sure if I would give this place another try, especially since I don’t live in the area. On a good note, the cashier was really friendly and I didn’t have a long wait time.

Food The food is great. We love the brisket, ribs and turkey. The beans and collard green are tasty. The drinks are good too. The meats are moist and tender. Service The service is like home. The severs make you feel like family. Atmosphere Like an old school restaurant. Nothing special. Deserts You should come for this. the Red velvet cake is great as well as the the Lemon cake. Just wished they had beef short ribs.

Visiting Dallas from NY and told my friends I wanted to support a black owned bbq spot. This restaurant was where they took me too. Well let me tell you what we ordered. We planned to share, so we ordered a lot of things. We had brisket, ribs, chicken, pulled pork, cole slaw, baked beans, potato salad, and mac and cheese. The cole slaw to a while to come because according to the waitress, it is made to order. Well honey, that cole slaw had the entire salt of Gibraltar. This black girl does not need a heart attack from eating too salty slaw. The crazy thing is I felt everything else was under seasoned. I will say the waitress was very kind and let me sample the sides. The place is cute but many of the tables were not clean.

Let me just start with the staff was hands down friendly. I walked in everyone greated me they were so sweet. The food was good fresh made to order. I would definitely go back.

I didn't too much care for this place. Rib tips were really dry and too small. Green beans were okay and mac and cheese was terrible. And it's supposed to be their best selling side...I was going to make a TikTok for the place but was not impressed at all.

It was ok not the best BBQ I've had in Dallas but the waitress was really nice and helpful. The ribs had too much fat on them the pulled pork and somewhat of a good flavor. What was good was the fries and Mac & cheese and the price.

First I want to mention that I am born and raised in New Orleans, LA. So I've only ever been exposed to great food my whole life. I was visiting family in Dallas and my husband was craving BBQ. so I of course yelped a place and this popped up. We spent $100 and got 1# each of Beef ribs, brisket, sides were: Mac and cheese, fried okra, baked beans, greens, some Texas toast butter bread, and some banana pudding. Meat was smoked heavenly and they did give us 16oz of bbq sauce to put on our meat as we desired. Which I like bc I hate messy messy bbq. My husband on the other hand loves it. So I appreciated the compromise. The fried okra was our favorite. The breading was BOMB. My only issue was that the banana pudding was absolutely rush made and they had no bananas in them. It was just box pudding and wafers on top. It still did the job but you know..... All and all everything was great and the people on the restaurant were hospitable.

I can't believe I forgot to review this place! I visited here from out of town back in mid February. The food was very good. In addition to the meat, the sides also had a smokey flavor to them which is different than what you may get at other bbq restaurants elsewhere in different regions. But everything was delicious in my opinion. I cannot remember our servers name (maybe Vanessa or something similar?) but she was amazing. We had a party of 20+ made up of several families. She flawlessly took everyone's orders, cashed each group out individually, bartended, served, AND was training a new employee all at the same time. I was very impressed. I will definitely make time to visit again the next time I travel to the Dallas area.

Food was delicious! Great service and the restaurant had a nice vibe. Oh and Im not a fan of beans the but those baked beans were next level!

The food was amazing, wonderful to try as it was our first time in Dallas. The service was amazing, we had multiple workers come up to check on things and clear the table throughout our meal.

The food was clearly a day or 2 old. The Mac seemed to be boxed and old. The sausage, hot link, rib and brisket were old and dry. An overall terrible dining experience. There is no way I would allow the food we were served to be given to paying customers. Just shame.

Great barbecue, tender and really good flavor. Had brisket, sausage and they had run out of ribs but sell rib tips. There is a lot of cartilage in them but the meat is delicious. Had cole slaw which was fine but the Mac and cheese is so good. Creamy and rich with pieces of barbecue in it. Service was very good. I will definitely get barby from them again.

From out of town and heard so much about Texas BBQ so tried Smokey Dz. I like juicy ribs with flavorful sauce. Ribs were dry and tough. Sauce was on the side and ordinary. Brisket was good. More like a fast food BBQ place. Need to try another place to give TX BBQ a chance to impress.

Oh, I don't know what's happening to these places that close prior to what they're advertising

Ordered the 3 meat plate. Sliced brisket was half fat and half meat. Rids were dry and the chicken was ok. Beans were over seasoned and the potato salad was ok. Will not be coming back.

This has to be one of the best sliced brisket and pork rib plates I have ever had. Everything was very flavorful with a perfect combination of smoke and seasoning. The baked beans and potato salad were also a hit. Unfortunately I'm just passing through town or this would certainly be my favorite go to bbq spot!

Tried to place an order but the young lady working the counter never came back. Her phone call was more important. Never got to taste the food. The place was empty. WOW

Love the food here! Their loaded potato is so good! The meats, the sauces, all the things. Love it. Great if you're looking to splurge on items you don't eat on a typical day.

Not even I one star !!! The ribs are so dry and no taste and the brisket the same the sides where the only good thing. Omg I had to trash the $20 plate I paid for I do not recommend at all don't waste your money

Ok, mixed review. First the positives, tender brisket, fantastic baked beans, and sweet potato fries! Very generous portions!!Negatives: Ribs were tough, meat had been smoked earlier and was served lukewarm to cool. The dining area is chaotic with portions taken up by its catering service who had meals taking up 1/2 the small dining room. Men's bathroom had the door knob removed and although clean, the idea of being seen was unnerving. About 30 minutes worth of organizing would allow a better experience as you didn't know where to sit and some of the tables were in disrepair

Great Food, Great atmosphere and great customer service!! The lady at the counter was very polite and informative and made my first time at this establishment very comfortable. She recommended the Tea-Laid that was very good as our drinks. Overall great experience, and I will be returning.

You cannot go to this area and miss out on the BEST tender & tasteful BBQ around! Their sides are pure satisfaction & seasoned to perfection! The meat choices now include turkey! We keep coming back; hopefully, we'll see you there next time... with dessert to top off your meal!!!

Tried this place for the first time today, and I must say it was pretty good. The greens had a hint of spice which was nice although I found myself coughing from the spice at times, I'm a spice weakling lol. The ribs I ate had a nice flavor all by themselves, but I dipped a little in the bbq sauce to try it, and it has a lightly sweetened flavor, very good. The Mac n cheese was ok also. The brisket was good. I would like to try some other things on the menu to give a further review, but so far what I've tried, it was good.

So much flavor. Super smoky. The dry rub here is amazing. I got there late in the day and could tell I was served the scraps. It was still super tasty. The service here is also great. Super friendly young woman behind the bar. Order first, pay, then go have a seat.

Ordered a rib and brisket sandwich Green beans Mac and cheese. Rib sandwich was sub par. I got 1 good bone the rest was from the end. Very dry and tough. I'm thinking who are they saving the better pieces for?? Green beans were extremely salty. Mac and cheese was just okay. Chopped beef was FUULL of fat. I know that it will have some, but that was more like a chopped fat sandwich. Im thinking maybe they don't want me to come back! I ordered to go but decided to dine in! Nice spot. But I literally threw away the whole meal. Not exaggerating at all. It was enough food for 2 so that I could take some for lunch but it didn't make it to my car. Won't be back. Judge for yourself take you BP pills before you go. Cool spot nice simple set up. Looks as if they have live music. This was my experience.

On a Saturday night, I had a really bad craving for some ribs, so search online for a place where I could get some barbecue and to my surprise, Smokey D'z was open until midnight. I drove about an hour from Denton county to Duncanville and was heartbroken that the ribs weren't available. I settled for some brisket, mac and cheese, baked beans, three shots of tequila, and 2 Dos Equis. The briskets slapped, so much flavor! it definitely made up for not having any ribs available. I also want to give my thanks to the staff, they were very welcoming and allowed me to stay past closing time to finish my drinks. I really enjoyed their energy and banter. I hope they succeed in their endeavors. I will be coming back to try those ribs before they run out.

Food 4 stars-flavorful, well seasoned, smoked nicely, delicious BBQ sauce. I had a loaded brisket potato. The brisket was tender. The potato was huge and loaded. The toppings were generous. I also had ribs and rib tips. They were equally as good. Cooked to perfection and not overcooked or dry. Customer Service 4 stars- the woman at the register was friendly and welcoming. She made sure my order was correct. She was confident and told me I would be back. She is so RIGHT! Atmosphere 3 stars- looks pretty clean, typical small business nothing fancy. Overall 4 stars- I enjoyed my experience and would go back. I was happy and full. The service was good and quick. My carry out was packed nicely. I had a plastic fork and knife. They gave me napkins, put sauce on the side. I also received sour cream for my potato. This place does a body good!

I wouldn't call this BBQ at all. Flavorless and a lot of fat. Would not recommend to anyone

Really wanted to like this place, given it was highly recommended to us. Everything has an overpowering smokiness to it - the Mac and cheese, the green beans included. It was not very pleasant. The chicken salad was good, but that was about it. All meats (except sausage) were very dry, as if they'd been sitting out for a while. The toast was honestly the best part of my meal. I really like the owner's mission and commitment to give back to the community, but I wouldn't return for the food.

I am so elated, the food was so good, best bbq I've ever had. I am visiting from California and hadn't eaten so I asked the host where he could suggest for lunch. He took me over to the door and pointed at Smokey D'z and told me to it is very good. I went over and ordered food to go and oh my it was so good!!!! Keep up the good work!!! Keysha Licea

I've been in a few times for a Togo order. Rib or chopped beef sandwich. They are fairly quick. Music was too loud last time and the ordering had to be shouted. But I'll keep trying them.

Not bad, not bad at all! Grabbed 1lb of brisket, flavor was good fairly tender. Sauce complimented it really well. Great place if your in the Duncanville area to grab some carryout. Looks like they are prepping for an expansion with dine-in.

Disappointed in the plates I receive! I heard great things about this spot and being from Mississippi I have been craving some good southern BBQ. The greens were extremely salty, so salty to where I couldn't even eat them! I've never had any greens this nasty before and I am woman that loves the kitchen but this wasn't it. Suggestion: If your cook doesn't want to take time to cook the food correctly, at least try glory greens / green beans in the can I promise they will taste better than what you are serving. The macaroni was disgusting, the pasta was over cooked and no real cheese it's like some packaged or jar cheese "SAUCE". This isn't homemade macaroni and it had no flavor. I my other two plates sides were green beans, baked beans, coleslaw and potato salad. All the sides were horrible. The coleslaw tasted like straight mayo, the baked beans were dry like they were old and had been sitting up, the green beans were dry with no flavor and the potato salad had a funny taste. I paid $55.85 for these 3 plates and they all went in the trash. This sides are not edible and I'll never waste my money here again. Brisket and ribs were old, dry and cold!

If you are near or far we definitely recommend this place!!!! We were greeted with a good Texas HELLO!! Food came out at good time! One of our orders was missing a side and the BEST CHEF that he is came out to our table and as he says it blesses our table. He came back with a a different side BUT DEFINITELY was not disappointed with the Smokey chip. He was so BEYOND AMAZING WITH BOTH OF MY KIDS!! He put my son on stage to beat box and was the best hype man ever! We will be coming back just to see Marquis "I hope I spelled his name correctly ". He made the best impression on my son who he constantly called him "little king". Make our whole day!!!

Well I wanted to try a new bbq place . The 2 meat plate was a good amount the brisket was dry, ok no big deal ,they only had one kind of bbq sauce it was ok. And the mac and cheese felt like it was made yesterday. Not so good. But the CHICKEN WAS AWESOME!! The place was pretty clean nice staff. But very HOT inside. No sweet tea or dirty rice

Chopped brisket sandwich with fries and macaroni then I had the cake bowl on the side. I enjoyed the meal the cake bowl unfortunately didn't get a picture was great I didn't get a picture but it was strawberry definitely good but again just a tad bit sweet.

We were visiting from Houston and this is the BEST bbq i've had in a longggg time , the staff was so sweet and patient with our church youth group , great place to be !

I love Smokey D'z! The location in relation to my home, the customer service, and of course the food. The meat is always flavorful and tender. The potatoes are HUGE. I also recommend the peach cobbler for dessert. The only thing keeping my review from being a perfect 5 stars is the fact that the fries have been changed from skinny to thick. When are you going to bring back the skinny fries for the loaded fries???

I went there to get a potato! This is what I got! So burnt I can't eat it! It cost me $12. This is unacceptable. I'm home now so it's too far to drive back. I'll never go there again.

We stopped here for lunch on a Friday and it was delicious. Got brisket sandwiches and Mac n cheese and this was some of the best Mac n cheese I've had in a long time. Great place and will definitely come again

I got brisket- tender with just the right amount of fat. I got sausage- it was delicious and smoky. I got potato salad- I'm usually not that crazy about potato salad but Smoky D's got me this time. The salad was seasoned and it had pieces of boiled egg. Yummy!! The only downfall was the undercooked sweet potato fries and the average customer service. The customer service wasn't bad but it's hard to ignore this factor when I go to other places and get treated like family or like the queen that I am. Nonetheless, I would recommend this place. Go Smoky D'z!!!

I had a two meat baked potato with beef and link and it was delicious. The beef itself was so tender and delicious and the potato was fabulous as it could have been by itself. I also had the peach cobbler and it was okay as well. I will definitely be going back to try other items on the menu.

I have been following this fb page for a while now considering I'm new to Texas and today was the day I decided to drive from Denton to Duncanville and I explained to the guy at the counter how I've been wanting to try it and I didn't let the bad reviews stop me however PLEASE don't give me dry room temperature meat and low and behold that's exactly what they gave me, I'm so disappointed. I'm like it was empty and y'all had me wait 20+ minutes after I ordered so why was the wait so long for room temperature dry meat. I'm confused and really had a taste for some good down home BBQ. Stop by here on my way to a BBQ but wanted what I wanted. ‍Dam it and I wanted to come back for the block party and order a whole pound of selected meat and come back again for the live band. But that 1st visit even after making it clear it was my 1st time didn't even matter. We gotta do better..

Order wasn't ready when I got there. They had to find it. Coleslaw amount was a joke. It was $2.45 for almost nothing. Potato salad wasn't full either but it was good. Everyone liked the smoked sausage. Brisket was pretty good to. Baked beans were awesome. BBQ sauce was really good. For the price I was expecting more. Service was good. Everyone was friendly and they require masks and social distancing. They show you your order before they bag it but you can't see what's there under the bread. I like the place but it needs to step up. Would I try it again? Maybe...

The service is slow. Food was okay but the servers were unprofessional with loud banter can be heard from the dining room. The music was not appropriate for children.

Unless you would like to pay an arm and a leg to wait for a super long time for your food as if the animal is just now being butchered, skinned and cleaned in the back then I would find somewhere else for barbecue. Usually if things will take a while people would usually let you know ahead of time but not this establishment. My brother got a 10$ pulled pork sand-which, just for it to be a big chunk of fatty meat, slapped on two slices of TOAST, not even a bun ?! Pretty sure pulled pork is supposed to be pulled/shredded and all that time it took and it was still just a big chunk of meat slapped on toast. My brother gives its a 0/10, I gave two stars because their smoked chicken salad it was good, and portion was alright for 10$. Dont plan to eat here again, I feel there is better bbq somewhere just have to find it!
