The Original Smoking Goat on Denmark Street Will Close this Month | Eater London

"Opened in 2014 as Ben Chapman’s laid-back debut on Denmark Street, this Nu-Thai spot offered an idiosyncratic take on Thai barbecue and helped launch Chapman’s subsequent projects. The team—many of whom flourished into co-owners—and a loyal regular crowd made the restaurant a buzzy, communal place where diners often returned multiple times in an evening. The operation emphasized high-quality sourcing, working with British butchers for whole-animal rare-breed meats, day-boat fish, and Cornish growers cultivating native Thai herbs and vegetables. As it prepares to close for redevelopment and building works, the final service will be marked by a “Last Days” run of dinners featuring free plates of the famous fish-sauce wings and a menu revisiting memorable dishes such as hang lae curried pork rib, fish head curry and khao soi smoked goat." - Adam Coghlan

Just incredible. An amazing little cozy seating area in the back with plenty of natural light. The food was some of the best I've had in a LONG time. We went for Offal Monday (sad to hear it's going) but I would definitely come back any other night of the week. Outstanding quality of ingredients. There was not ONE dish I didn't like, we ordered pretty much everything on the menu.

Had a pretty miserable experience here tbh. They said we would wait an hour 'max' for a table but when we came back after an hour (their instructions) it was completely full and they said they couldn't take our orders because it was too busy but that we should wait and buy drinks. They then sat our group of four in a row along the window but we just went with it because we'd waited for so long. At this point we wouldn't have complained, but it was an absolute rip off in terms of food. The goat curry is served for two on one plate and there is just no meat. The waitress put two big plates down and said they'd 'run out of big plates' and gave the two others bowls and explained they'd given double portions on the big plates. When I checked with someone if we had actually got 'double portions' they said that they always serve two on a plate together because it 'saves space on the table'. Our rice turned up ten minutes after the goat curry which was already cold. Meanwhile we were ferrying oily drippy sauce between two plates with a rice spoon. Maybe other people have a better time but this was just a bit sad. A nice waiter came up at the end to try and make up for it (to his absolute credit because I've worked in service and that's a scary thing to do) but we'll never go back and we wouldn't recommend with people with reasonable appetites.

I booked for a group of friends and we had a nice table in the back of the restaurant. The staff was really great! Everyone in my group loved their food. I personally loved the fish sauce wings and the shortrib.

Had dinner with friends last Sunday. I had no references other than what I had read online. Great experience. Delicious food. We wanted to try as much as possible from the menu so we followed recommendations from our waiter (Jamie). From the appetisers the favourites were the incredible chicken wings and the smoked aubergine. The best main we had was the pork belly (we thought the portion was a bit small for 1 person). We also tried the goat shoulder but we found it very salty. We passed this comment to Jamie just to let the chef know not looking for any refund or wanting to place a complaint in any way, it was just a comment. Jamie came back with the unexpected news that we were being given a 50% discount on the dish. It was completely unexpected and gratefully received by us. All in all we found great food with authentic flavours. Excellent service and all for reasonable prices. We will be back

Was a last minute decision as we had missed our reservation at Temper. Very glad we came here, everything was exquisite. The wings were crispy and very flavourful, I recommend the chili ones. The aubergine was very good also. The star of the show was the goat shoulder, just delicious. It was very big though, the three of us couldn't finish it and had to take the rest home! Highly recommended. The cocktails were also great, the rum palm, palm sugar and lime one especially.

Extraordinarily good food at extremely reasonable prices. I went on offal night and was slightly apprehensive, as it's not every day I eat gizzards and tongue. But everything was great, apart from a slightly average laksa pork cheeks which lacked zing. It was also a little crowded at the bar, but everything else was faultless. We had virtually everything on the menu plus a pint and the bill was £44 including service. Get there now basically.

Thai inspired Barbecue food, great sources of meat from small farmers in Uk and spices from Thailand. Might need to wait for a table but totally worth it.

Good food, noisy atmosphere, but still cosy enough to catch up when friends. The actual goat is delish. In terms of Thai food, it's a bit of a fusion, but still good food.
