Smyth Tribeca

Great hotel in the perfect location! Rooms are clean, comfortable and well appointed. Great desk area for a work trip. Excellent subway access -- you can get anywhere in the city in just minutes. Staff friendly and accommodating. Restaurant on site very good. It's my go-to hotel in NYC (after having searched for over 25 years!).

We stayed 3 nights at the Smyth in a queen room with a terrace on the 9th floor. We overall were very pleased with our stay. Check in was easy and the lobby smells fantastic. The room was compact (but that's NYC hotel rooms!) but comfortable, and we loved the terrace off our room with views of One World Trade Center and the Empire State building. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. The subway stop is right outside the door, so you can't beat that! Neighborhood is really clean and lovely, lots of good stuff to walk to from the hotel. Our only quibbles were: (1) We had to run the shower for 10m before the hot water would be hot. This means showering required some forethought, and also wasted a lot of water. (2) There are no hooks or towel racks in the room or bathroom other than a very small towel rack on the shower door, which means there was no where to hang a robe or a wet towel after showering to dry. A pegboard or a few hooks would have made a big difference! (3) The "big light" in the bathroom came on automatically with a motion sensor, which made keeping lighting low at night difficult. Overall we were very pleased with our stay and would stay again.

My family stayed here during a vacation in May 2024 and we had an absolutely wonderful time! The staff were so helpful, kind and accommodating—they planned all our airport transfers and were flexible with early check-ins. We were travelling with a little one (3 years old) and we really appreciated how patient and friendly everyone was with us—this really stands out in a city that can be quite a challenge to navigate with a toddler. The rooms were clean, well laid out and pretty spacious. The location is so convenient! There’s a subway stop right outside the hotel and the area has lots of attractions that are walking distance away. We would definitely stay here again and I would highly recommend this for those travelling with families or on their own.

Stayed a week on business. No major complaints - room was spacious, clean, relatively new. Well stocked minibar and toiletries. Staff were very friendly and enthusiastic at all times. But I really expected to be wowed and overall, I’ve had better at this price.

Well located in Tribeca - right at the subway stop. The rooms are comfortable and modern; bathroom light and bright with white marble tile and tub/shower - plenty of counter space. Staff in the restaurant were very friendly and nice, provided good service. Spent five nights there. Best thing about the hotel was Nick, the front desk manager, who went out of his way to assist me with a problem I had. He is terrific!

This is my go to hotel while in NYC. Positive: Perfect location, helpful staff, (especially Nick, at the front desk). Room was spacious and extremely clean. Restaurant served excellent breakfast. Negative: Due to hotels corner location, rooms are noisy (street noise).Room doors shut very loudly and can be heard when sleeping.

Excellent hotel with a very helpful and caring staff. We stayed here during a canceled flight and the price was way below the amazing room and service we got. The hotel staff was very accommodating and friendly. The location is also in a good area with plenty of sights to see within just a 10 minute walk. Overall an amazing stay.

We had a really comfortable stay here. The rooms are clean and surprisingly spacious, as New York goes. The staff goes above and beyond to be helpful. Super easy subway access. Food was great.

4.5 stars. I stayed here for 4 nights in October for work, and it was great. The location was close to our office but also close to many good restaurants and bars (my favorite was Holy Water, two blocks away). Rooms are quite spacious by Manhattan standards, and were recently upgraded (bathrooms are light and roomy). Prices are also pretty reasonable.

The best hotel I've stayed at in NYC! I have stayed in many NYC hotels but this ONE has to be the best! The customer service is was got me! We arrived very early from the train and our room wasn't going to be ready for a while but the front desk staff were beyond accommodating as we had to get to an event. The room was spacious and very clean. The hotel has a restaurant connected to it that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. At night there is all a cocktail lounge that is open I believe until 2pm! I would highly recommend staying here as it's conveniently located, beautiful staff and overall a 10/10 vibe !

Horrible service. Paid for a room with 2 beds through a vendor. Told at hotel that it wasn't available and were "upgraded" to jr suite. This has a pullout sofa which is absolute trash and doesn't even fit in the room when you pull it out. You literally can't pull out the bed. They of course didn't make the bed up, and when asked they said they would and then didn't. Then upon returning to an unmade, disgusting pullout called and asked the rude desk attendant and she said they would send someone up. They did and he just dropped off bedding and left. Absolutely horrid service. While most hotels in NYC are small and overpriced - they make up for it in service. The Smyth does not. Stay somewhere else

Going to keep it simple. Pros: Location, Staff, spacious rooms, quaint, sexy lounge with fireplace, restaurant, ambiance, great music, diverse/sophisticated Cons: Mattresses (not the best quality, but I had a restful sleep), windows are not sound proof (the sounds of the city did not bother me, but may bother others), updated, but still somewhat tired. Overall, an excellent stay, especially in New York City. Big bang for your buck.

The Pros - Surprisingly comfortable room - Decent shower (although it took a while to get warm at night) - Clean and well maintained - Friendly and helpful stuff - Decent location near subways - Room not as small as some other nearby boutique options - Good restaurant on premises - Good with little things (water, dental kit if you forget toothbrushes etc) The Cons - HVAC gets cold AF but room gets warm quick when you raise the temp - Bed wasn't super comfortable, mattress felt soft and almost sunken (and I'm normal weight/height) Generally the pros outweigh the cons though it was kind of tricky to get a good night's sleep on an iffy mattress. But who knows if that's just my room or all over. Either way this is a decent choice to stay overall, given the price relative to other nearby hotels.

Disclaimer: I had a bad experience and it's just bad luck. But how the hotel handled the situation is terrible. Booked 4 nights and was switched to a nicer room after the 1st night, which I really appreciate. However, my AirPods was no where to be found in the hotel room. The Find My app showed the location of the AirPod to be close to south of Brooklyn (almost at Coney Island). The night reception staff was very helpful and promised to investigate and get back to me. When the next day came, the front desk did a 180 attitude flip by telling me: - It is impossible for hotel to lose something and it must be me who lost it - The Find My app on iPhone is faulty (dude seriously?) I would not stay with this hotel next time in Manhattan. Period.

Foodvery good. Service fine. Just not extraordinary enough to get 5 stars. The deviled eggs however are worth 5 stars.

There were two managers (or hosts?) I encountered, one who was extremely skilled with customer service, and one who was not. I will call them Person1 (skilled) and Person2 (not so skilled). The PROS: - Walking distance to my work - Great neighborhood, as I used to live in the area - Very friendly front desk staff - Very Reasonable room rates - Very Reasonable valet parking rates The CONS: 1. 1 Hour Late Check: Our room was 1 hour late from check in time because the staff had to clean up extra from the previous guest. That was fine with me, I was okay to wait. Person1 was extremely compassionate and offered us a $75 voucher for the bar or Smyth Tavern. I was pleasantly surprised and appreciative. 3 of my friends came to meet me at the hotel (as I was expecting to be ready to head out for dinner by then), and I asked Person2 (Person1 had stepped away) if we could grab $75 worth of drinks at the Tavern while we waited for the room. Person2 said "No, there are too many of you, plus your friends are not guests of the hotel. We can give you a glass of champagne each instead." I completely understood we weren't entitled to anything at all, so I said "Okay thank you." But I still don't understand why Person2 was so exasperated, as I knew the comp was limited to $75. Even if it went above $75, they could have charged the extra to my room. Instead the group of us had to stand awkwardly at the front desk while this strange exchange happened... 2. Dirty Room: The trash from the previous guest was not emptied, and was filled over the brim. The corner of the closet door was broken off, and there was a strange brown streak on the wall of the bathroom. 3. Malfunctioning Bedroom door: We stayed in a suite where there was a bedroom door. When my husband shut the door to the bedroom from the outside, we were locked out of the bedroom. We went to the front desk and they called the hotel "engineer" (similar to a super?) to fix it. He did a great job, and we were thankful. 4. $1100+ bill from the Hotel (!!): After we checked out, I was extremely dissatisfied and confused to receive a bill for $1100+. I called the Hotel and thankfully Person1 answered. He apologized for all of the inconveniences I experienced, and corrected the mistaken charges to $300+ (which was accurate for parking and hotel fees). He even took off one of the fees because of the trash that was not emptied from the previous guest. I was extremely grateful for the ease of this conversation. 5. The $65 straw that broke the camel's back: 2+ weeks later, I received yet another charge on my card for $65 from the hotel. My stay was already over 3 weeks ago. This is why I am writing this review, this is completely unacceptable and borderline-fraudulent behavior from whoever is approving and executing these charges at the hotel. No matter how convenient and great the location, how great SOME of the staff are, I will never stay at this hotel again.

Reviews are 100% subjective. I scour reviews before booking or buying anything to help educate myself while knowing it is relative to the reviewer's personal experience. The following review is not a reflection of the staff although we barely interacted with them, they were kind. With that said, my wife and I travel continuously when not working. We travel all over the world and have stayed in countless hotels and short term rentals like Airbnb. We love New York and travel there several times a year. We have stayed all over the city checking out neighborhoods and lodging. My review of Smyth TriBeCa? Avoid it! Here are the reasons: 1. Cost. We stayed 3 nights (Sat-Tues)in a deluxe King in June. The cost was $1940. That's just under $650 per night. There is no fathomable reason that this hotel cost us this much. The room was a good size, however, that in no way made up for the price. We are open to paying a lot for a nice hotel. We have paid $1,000+/night in New York. We have also paid much less than that in NYC and were highly satisfied. If you are considering the Smyth a splurge, do not waste your money. Keep looking and get something much nicer for the price. 2. Amenities. There are none to speak of. The security feature of using your room key to access floors didn't even work. There is no coffee in the room or lobby. You will need to leave the hotel for this. Seems absurd at the price point we paid. 3. Climate control. If you value the ability to remain comfortable in your room, run don't walk to a different hotel. And be forewarned, housekeeping will turn the A/C up to the maximum when you are out and you will come back to a sweat box that takes hours to begin to cool off. 4. Lack of noise control. You will hear everything. It's the worst hotel I've ever stayed in while in the city. We could repeat conversations on the street verbatim. 5. The bathroom is curious. The lights come on automatically which you think would be nice. At 2AM when someone gets up and lights as bright as the sun pop on you will quickly hate this feature. We asked the front desk how to disable it and were told an engineer would need to get involved. So we lived with it. Also, the shower is a glass block that is a part of the main room. Although it is frosted, please consider if you would enjoy catching a glimpse of someone washing, shaving, inspecting or otherwise attending to their bits. It is not the porno you think it will be. Avert your eyes. The lone positive: 1. The subway is literally outside which makes it easy to get anywhere. If you are going to Times Square for a show you have multiple train options that put you there in 3 stops. If you look to book the Smyth the price varies greatly from week to week. This isn't uncommon for New York but you will feel robbed if you pay top dollar for this place. Our total was barely under $2,000 for 3 nights. We would have been fine if it were half that price. Anything more is a scam. We will feel like chumps forever. Don't make our mistake.

HIDDEN FEES. BEWARE! Stayed as part of a wedding block and I was quoted one amount and then upon checkout was hit with additional fees... facility charge, charitable donation... NOT OKAY. I give to charity, but charities of MY choosing AND as for a facility charge, this makes NO SENSE... we stayed in a facility based on the quoted price and the sneakiness of the add-ons was deceitful and unprofessional. So disappointed.

The Smyth feels like home away from home. I tried another hotel this trip based on price and checked out after the first night to go back to the Smyth. The rooms are clean, but warm and welcoming. The rooms are also a great size so you feel like you can breathe and move around. The staff is friendly and helpful, and I always enjoy my stay.

Great location & empathetic staff. The key cards need an overhaul as they regularly need to be reset. Room for improvement in cleanliness as my initial room was dusty w/visible hair & food on the carpet. AMAZING bathroom. My favorite tub by far. Good water pressure and shower head patterns, but functionally not a lot of space or shelving. The toiletries were better than average & the robes were incredibly soft. Pillows felt a bit cheap/deflated, but overall the bedding was nice. Gorgeous corner view w/floor to ceiling windows. Well-stocked mini-bar w/plenty of variety. The doorman here definitely deserves a raise. Fast Wi-Fi, extendable wall-mounted smart TV w/built-in chrome cast. DoorDash delivery friendly. Highly recommend & would stay again.

This hotel is a great location, quaint and very clean. The restaurant has delicious food and delicious drinks. I had the pasta with shrimp and my husband had the burger and brussel sprouts. We also had the breakfast daily and was equally as pleased with it. I prefer Tribeca, Soho, West Village, Grenwhich out of all the neighborhoods in NYC. I will definitely be back.

We stayed at the Smyth tribeca for a bachelorette weekend and could not recommend it more. We had booked a suite and 2 double rooms. All of the rooms were a great size, especially for New York! The people we encountered at the front desk could not have been nicer and more accommodating as we had a big group of girls. Gabriel was fantastic and so helpful with all of our questions we bombarded him with. I fully recommend this place for a quick weekend stay!

Excellent two-night stay at the Smyth. Room was comfortable and larger than I expected. It was spotlessly clean and smelled wonderful. The staff were welcoming and genuine. The hotel has a really nice lounge to the right of the lobby for relaxing and grabbing a drink; and a tavern on the left where I had a very tasty burger at the bar. It's a great location as you're a short walk to Hudson River Park and the Oculus.

Don't get excited about the pictures. Everything in this hotel is of low quality. They had a fake dyson in the room that caught on fire. The walls are as thin as paper and you can hear the plumbing all night. Sheets had piss stains amongst other stuff on it. I can go on...the bathroom was nice and roomy but the tiles look liked they've been caulked by a blind person. Couch & chair also had several stains.. be aware

Stayed there on Friday, September 3rd. Was supposed to be charged around $400 to stay for one night. Instead was charged around $2000 - a complete scam. They said they made a mistake with the mini bar but will nickel and dime you for literally everything.

Had the best experience here this past weekend! Great location, service, and staff. Special shout out to Mario at the front desk for making me feel like a VIP guest and helping with anything I needed in a timely manner. Thank you!!!!

Staff were friendly and helpful ('cept for one scowler at front desk). Room was clean and attractive. Great location. On the minus side, this was a poorly designed room that was uncomfortable: The closed bathroom door left a one-inch gap with a clear view of the toilet from the room. I prefer privacy for my toileting. Also, a motion sensor flooded the bathroom with bright lights for that middle of the night trip. No soap beyond a body wash located in the shower. No hooks or racks to hang things on in the bathroom. Thick duvet only on bed meant too hot or too cold all night when the thermostat didn't cool the room sufficiently.

Checked out within 20 minutes. Photos online are NOT what you get. Window treatments were covered in stains. The floor and room smelt terribly of smoke, for a "non smoking hotel." The door to the SHARED terrace did not lock. Mini fridge was open so everything was warm. Within my 20 minutes it felt dated, dirty and unsafe.

I actually loved this hotel! Came here to stay for a girls night (3 of us) and we split a room. We requested a double bed but ended up with a king and a sofa bed which was fine.. the room was a decent size and the king bed was so comfy! They also offer 24 hour room service !!! We literally ordered two orders of chicken fingers and fries at like 4:30 in the morning, classy I know. They were also really good lol... the lobby/ den area is so cute with a fire place that we were relaxing by next day, I would love that in the fall/ winter and there is a restaurant attached to the hotel as well... really a nice hotel and not such bad prices, I think we paid $390 for the night but splitting it 3 ways wasn't bad at all! Good area too, love Tribeca :)

We had the best stay at the Smyth Tribeca. We had a queen room with a terrace and it was amazing! just enough room for a couple and the terrace was something out of a movie! The staff is so pleasant and helpful. The gym was great and the neighborhood was close to everything! Will definitely be staying again!

Great service and hotel. Very central and every necessity is within a block walking. Javon the ops manager was especially hospitable and friendly, she made the stay very warm. The only request is the hotel consider the basic coffee maker in each room, it's a basic amenity that goes a long way, especially for business travelers like myself. But overall, great stay and people.

I've always loved the bar here, but didn't have a reason to get a room until I moved away. I figured the one good thing about leaving NY for awhile would be getting an excuse to stay at the Smyth on return visits. Reception is warm and attentive; the rooms are cozy and stylish in a minimalist way and were spotless... At first. I don't think I've literally ever had a reason to complain about hotel housekeeping, especially not with a boutique of this caliber. (And nothing makes me feel like a bigger heel than bitching about this kind of detail - but you know what? The whole point of sticking to great hotels over Airbnb is to get the kind of crisp, reset room during your stay that you don't get at home. Especially after a long, hot August day.) I don't trash hotel rooms, guys, and I'm not OCD: All I'm looking for is a neatly re-made bed, a wiped-down bathroom, restocked towels and barware. After my first day out I returned to a room that looked untouched: dirty glasses still on the night stands; the morning's take-out napkins and newspaper still on the foot of the bed; an ice bucket filled with melted water on the desk; and a bed made with the kind of sloppiness and haste I use on my own damn bed at home. If it hadn't been for the fresh towels, I would have assumed no one had even been in there. I let the front desk know that the room seemed pretty ignored - if nothing else, I'd like the dishes removed & restocked in the minibar. Two housekeepers (I'm assuming one was the housekeeping manager) arrived about 30 minutes later - I let them in on my way out to dinner. Pleased that the front desk was so responsive. But I returned from dinner to again find nothing different... Dirty glasses, bed still a wrinkly, sub-motel re-assemble. So, what? A manager came up here and signed off? I guess that means this wasn't a fluke. Another complaint led to actual cleaning service for the remainder of the stay, but also led to me feeling like an ass for having to ask for what should have gone without mention. So that's fun. What a disappointment. Next time I'll stick to the bar and stay elsewhere.

Loved this Hotel! Decor was very modern, very clean. Awesome location, right in the heart of Tribeca it's walking distance to so many restaurants, cafes and shops. Room was quite spacious for NYC which I loved, I get claustrophobic in small rooms. Service was also great, they have valet parking and a doorman. Would go back!

I spent a week here, and their best asset is definitely the service. From the very second I arrived the service was incredible. Someone met me as I opened the door of my cab, helped me with my bags the second I got out. Their were absolutely no problems with any of the requests I had, though honestly I was a pretty low-key customer (I really only requested wake-up calls). Their gym is really cool. Brand new equipment, plenty of space but doesn't feel huge; and best of all, it has an individual television for each treadmill. Awesome! Ok, now onto the problems. The biggest of course is the price. It shouldn't cost a large fraction of my monthly rent to stay in a hotel for a single night. That's just crazy. What's worse, is that on top of the price, they charge for internet. $10 for every single day, without even a weekly discount if you're staying longer. Now, they do this because they know lots of people doing business stay there, and that they'll just expense the extra $10, but some of us aren't their on business and some businesses are starting to tighten their belts. Also, I think it simply looks tacky to charge for something that most motels provide for free... The room is a very unique and modern look. The bathroom is a cool design, but since the shower doesn't have a door, it gets pretty cold in their when you shower.

For a hotel in NY, the rooms here are huge! I mean really, we had a king bed and there was still a lot of room to move around. Downstairs there is an nice restaurant which we dined at and an awesome bar that had AMAZING cocktails. There's really cute couches to sit at with your drinks and socialize at. I left my book at the hotel after checkout and although housekeeping couldn't find it, the front desk mailed me a new one!

We took the Amtrak into NYC, and did not get into NYC until about 1:30 am or so. Which is ok because they will check you in until 3am. We checked in and everything was very smooth. Get into the hotel room, it was very warm as they had the heat on since it was snowing outside. I turned on the faccut for water because I was dying of thirst and load and behold the water was cloudy. Not just mini clouds but like cloudy to the point you can't see your other finger at the end of the glass. Since we aren't from NYC, we thought maybe this is normal? No it couldn't be normal since no normal person would drink this water. We told the front desk and they sent someone up here. During that time, when you let the water sit for 30 seconds, it starts bubbling and turns clear. What? Maybe perhaps the snow made the pipes weird? I have no idea. But make sure to check the water. They ended up giving us water bottles for the night at least. Pros: AWESOME location, the Chamber St Metro is literally outside the door The bed was uber comfortable Did not find any bed bugs Housekeeping was on spot They do NOT use Kiehls products anymore, they use something called REN Front desk was really nice They keep your luggage for you if you need it stored until you wait for your flight/train Free internet in lobby CONS: Internet is $15 for $24 hours -very spotty service Sprint, AT&T and T-Mobile have HORRIBLE service You have to ask the front desk for ICE, even though there is an ice bucket in your room A mini bottle of water is $4 A big bottle of water is $6 - rip off much? A can of soda is $5 I'm not really understanding the bathroom and how it's not a wall but instead it's a tinted glass...so technically you can see the outline of a person when they shower... No shower door...literally no door. Which i'm also confused about. If you really want bottle water, walk to the whole foods that is a block away, and buy a gallon of water for $1.50 and just ask for ice. Overall, this was a pretty romantic hotel to be at. It was very hip, modern and chic at the same time. 4 stars!

Too cool and fails to deliver on basic amenities. I'm not thrilled with the staff wearing hipster street clothes. There is definitely a look they are going for and it works, but it is also hard to know who is taking your luggage. Otherwise the staff were helpful. The host at check in was engaging and conversational she was a bright spot of the whole experience. Excellent location in Tribeca with a 1-2-3 train right outside the door and close access to the 4-5-6, Soho, and World Trade Center. It was hard to find, because the door is poorly marked and bounded by awnings for the hotel restaurant. I hate the bathrooms in Thompson hotels. There were not enough hooks. The shower had no door and was bigger than most tubs, but did not have one. The outer wall to the shower is frosted white so the bathroom light shows through and lights up the whole room. We did not appreciate this when sleeping in. The door to the bathroom is a sliding door - very trendy but does nothing to add privacy.

Our room was immaculate and housekeeping refreshed it to check-in status. For NYC, the rooms are larger than what I have experienced in the past. The bathroom/shower is also larger than what you would expect. We had a balcony on the 9th floor and the door sealed off the street noise at night. The location is perfect. It's next door to the best Italian restaurant in the area, Ecco, and around the corner from a really good whiskey bar, Ward III. A cool neighborhood that's not jammed with tourists and crummy souvenir shops. You have a subway station outside and the Brooklyn Bridge/City Hall station just down the street which will take you to Central Park and all of the museums. And I know this seems weird, but having the NYT or WSJ delivered to your door every day instead of USA Today is a nice touch. The doors staff was friendly and helpful as well. I would happily stay here again. It exceeded my best expectations. I want to return when the lobby is completed.

Cute decor - the paintings hang all over the lounge reminds me of my friend's artwork. www.megancedro.com The walls are padded with brown striped fabric - the whole area has a loungy - chill vibe. I would come back here if I was looking for a chill night. I don't remember any music playing but overall a great place to drink. I got the Marie Rose - very yummy! S 248 got some kind of ginger concoction.

These rooms are so trendy, what cool decor. This place is expensive but you will pay for the great location that it has. The room was way bigger than expected, I was thrilled about that. The room itself was beautifully decorated with a decent room and really nice bathroom. For some reason I find that's where hotels in NYC go wrong. I can't tell you how many times I've been to a hotel in NYC and there is rust in the bathroom. Things are obviously well kept here. The hotel is literally right next to the subway, so that means I didn't have to pay for cabs every second I wanted to go somewhere. I enjoyed this hotel, I think it's really fun if you want to do something special or impress someone, I would invest in a room for a few nights. Your guest will be impressed in your stylish taste.

Review of bar in the hotel that just opened last week. (The restaurant is planning to open next week). The bar was great. Nice lounge tables all around. Great for small groups. The free bed and olives was nice touch. Good overall atmosphere, hope it does not get too popular and then crowded.

Loved the Smyth when I stayed here a year ago and they had just opened. The location was great - it was a quick walk over to the financial district and blocks from great places in Tribeca. Service was fantastic and we got a great deal as they were just opening. Unlike many reviews I noted how quiet the hotel was! You couldn't even hear the elevators opening if you were in the lobby. Maybe it was my room or the fact they weren't fully occupied, but the _lack_ of noise was noteworthy and I commented on it to the manager. Only downstroke was that AT&T reception sucked in the west and north facing rooms. Also, charging for Internet these days seems odd. I tried staying here again, but ended up at a sister hotel - the Gild Hall. I'm a solid 2 for 2 with Thompson Hotels. Booked on quickbook.com, btw.

What a dump! Such a disappointment! Room is devoid of decoration. White walls. Cheap furniture. No mini bar. Only covering on window is a dirty off white shade. Not the same hotel I stayed at a few years ago! Tried to ask for another room and was told they are all the same. I could be at a Motel 7 from what I'm seeing on the inside here.

Booked a room via Hotels.com with a guaranteed, non-refundable payment and they did not honor it. I guess they don't realize that people make plans for trips and things like this can ruin a holiday or special event. I will be sure to recommend people never to book this hotel.

This hotel was prefect for our quick, weekend trip to NYC. The room wasn't too cramped, there was plenty of space for unpacking our things, the bathroom had shelf space to hold our toiletries and the bed was still nice and big. We didn't spend much time in the hotel, but our nights sleeping and mornings getting ready were very pleasant. The hotel is on top of a 1-2-3 subway stop and close to many others. That was SO convenient for getting elsewhere in NYC and getting to the hotel from the airport! The staff was super friendly and accessible and housekeeping was great. My only complaint, like many, is that the bathrooms lack privacy in a lot of forms. I actually like the glass allowing more light into the room from the bathroom, BUT if you were sharing a room with anyone other than a spouse, it would be very revealing. Without a proper door to the toilet, you can essentially hear everything. Also, i'm not sure why hotels LOVE open showers so much. It gets water everywhere and it's cold! Otherwise, stay was fantastic. Will stay again!

This hotel is one of the sexiest hotels I've ever been to. Even the lighting at the entrance is crazy beautiful. You can only access the elevator with your room key, which I think all hotels should do...so you don't get crazies like the CL killer. The bathroom doors (or walls) are matte translucent. Incredibly sexy: especially if the room is dark and just the lights in the bathroom are lit...you're able to see a sexy silhouette. Makes me want to get into interior design even more. Oh, and the shower products they provide are by Kiehl's! Hotttttt. Love the grapefruit scented lotion. You know damn well, I took all of them home. Don't judge me.

First off, get a room with a balcony. It's one of the best views in NYC of the Empire St Building and B'way. Such a great place to enjoy champagne or eat breakfast. The rooms are tiny, but that is somewhat to be expected in Manhattan. Shower was fantastic and toiletries were C.O. Bigelow and smelled awesome. The staff is so incredibly accommodating and was able to fulfill (almost) every request as they couldn't get us reservations at 11 Mad during our stay. The only gripe that I had with the hotel was that they charged me twice for my hotel room, so do check your CC statement! I am still trying to get that worked out.

Stayed here for 3 weeks last month. What I appreciated: - The nice, beautiful aroma of an elegant hotel from the moment you walk in - Kiehl's products - Pillows particularly fit me for great sleep - 24/7 gym downstairs - Central location. Near awesome restaurants and major subway lines Not so much: - Wi-fi at an extra cost. Just annoying to have to pay as you're looking at the Starbucks across the street with free wi-fi - The bar downstairs (Toro) didn't have too much going on the entire 3 weeks that I was there - Weak water pressure in the shower - Not friendly, warm door staff Generally, I would stay here again. The value is there and I'm their target demographic. TIP- The staff weren't able to help point me in the right direction with this (and it's a very important piece of info to know when staying at this hotel), the liquor store is just half a block west on Chambers. AND, it closes at 9pm every night.

I love the Thompson Hotel Group in NYC. They're a family of boutique hotels that offer you more for less. I have seen hotel rooms for $500.00 a night in NYC that look like shoe box roach motel!. Thompsons always give you a reasonably low rate and offers you a little more than you expected. Thank you. I would recommend Smyth for your budget minded business traveler, or couple, who doesn't mind being away from Midtown. Why compromise space, amenities, and service because you are in NYC? I loved the floor to ceiling windows overlooking Tribeca! If this is your first time to NYC, you may want to stay in Midtown near time square, but the REAL NYC is downtown. Short walk to Soho for all you fashionistas andd just a short stroll to Battery Park along the waterfront! Enjoy your stay!

I hesitate to review hotels because so much of the experience can be determined by the consistency of the maid and hotel service, the location and quality of your room, and other randomness. That said, I have been staying in the newest addition to the Thompson hotels in most of my NYC stays for the past 4 months. Having stayed at the Smyth now close for a dozen or so nights, I can honestly say that each and every stay there was a great experience. I am usually upgraded to a larger room or studio, even though the rate is seldom over $180. Second, everything from the soft, crisp linens to the shower setup with high rain head and even pressure pleases me. I am a very picky hotel guest, particularly since I spend about half of my working days in them. Other Thompson hotels have been somewhat inconsistent with cleanliness and service at times, but the Smyth has yet to falter. I give this hotel 5 stars in the sense not that it is a 5-star hotel (In that sense, though, it probably comes close to a 4-star hotel), but rather because it is an incredible deal for what you get. For drivers, it is also great because on weekends and evenings, there is plenty of free on-street parking (usually steps from the door). For a more trendy, party crowd, I would recommend 60 Thompson. The Smyth, however, is just the place for a business traveler who isn't looking to stay at another Marriott, Doubletree, or Westin.

In planning for my most recent trip, I needed to find a hotel that would fit the following criterion: - Easy access to public transport and PATH trains - Affordability I narrowed my choices to Lower Manhattan to give me easy access to both Brooklyn and Jersey. After a spin of the yelp.com wheel I landed upon Smyth. It met both of my requirements, and looked a LONG ways better than the Holiday Inn and Comfort Inn on the East Side. And in terms of affordability, you're getting way more for your money here than you would at either of those fine establishments. Smyth served as a great home base for me. There was a stop for the 1, 2 and 3 train right outside the hotel, and all other subway trains and the PATH were a quick 5 minute jaunt away. I did not have to deal with any of the touristy nonsense when I stepped out the door as I would have at some tourist hotel in Midtown and the staff kept to the background appearing whenever you needed them. The room itself was way more than I expected. I didn't have a view and if you happen to have T-Mobile you will probably not have reception if you get a Queen room, but if you're traveling to New York and you're spending all your time in the hotel room, you're obviously there for the wrong reasons.

Noise. Crazy amounts of noise due to poor construction of this hotel, which I believe is unacceptable in 2009, and for the price bracket the Smyth aims for. Neighbors gettin' it on woke me up, and it sounded like an earthquake (was a headboard). Hallway walkers are heard as if you have no door. Your bathroom fan cannot be turned off, so you'll be hearing the loud drone of it every moment you are in the room. I stayed at the Thompson Lower East Side and it was much better than this. Hallway noise was a bit better, and there were solid walls (concrete?) between the rooms. Bathrooms were much nicer. I don't know what to say about the Smyth, other than I fear its too late for this hotel to fix the noise problems caused by thin walls all around. The room had a nice design (for typical small footprint of NYC hotel) and it had a sizeable veranda. I would gladly trade that feature for concrete walls between rooms.

Having been to NYC many times over the years for business and pleasure, I'd become accustomed to shoebox sized rooms with barely enough space to breathe! Compadres, I'm not a little guy (I stand 6'1" tall). The Smyth was a breath of fresh air. I didn't feel cramped for space at all. FYI - it's part of the Thompson group of hotels. I was here a few weeks ago. Located in the heart of TriBeCa, it's perfectly situated with many options (food, shopping, subway, etc.) within walking distance of the hotel. I was stoked to get upgraded to a King Deluxe Sweet. The bed was gi-normous and SUPER comfortable (oh, I am a HUGE fan of the firm mattress, thanks). My room faced West Broadway. Unlike other reviews I've read, I didn't experience loud neighbors or extraneous noise (from inside or outside). The bathroom was plenty spacious (relatively speaking) and the toiletries provided (Kiehl's) were a nice touch. The service was fantastic. Everyone was really friendly and helpful. I would DEFINITELY stay at this place again. The price was reasonable. The space was clean, comfortable and I liked the decor. Big fan - look forward to getting back to the city soon to check this spot out again. Safe travels to you!

This review has me waffling a bit. I am usually a fan, or I am not. I am going to give them three stars because in all my experience here for a week was better than it was bad. I will break it down here: To begin, everyone warned me that this was the place that the Kardashians stayed during their filming in NYC. Since I was staying for over 8 days I figured this is good- the rooms they had on the show were phenomenal as far as I could see (I looked it up online to verify space). I waited for the single elevator to bring me slowly to the sixth floor where I opened the door to a palatial BOX. Yes, I know TV makes everything bigger but this was kind of laughable (but standard NYC small I suppose). Usually when there is a lack of size, efficiency should bridge the gap, not so here. There are no hooks beyond the one stub on the shower glass for a robe, and no place to even hang a hand towel. This may seem petty but believe me, these little things go a long way if you are pretty much living there. The shower was pretty, but the ultra modern design without a door is annoying because of wet floors. The lack of ventilation is also not prudent. No fan. The other item of interest I heard was that this was one of the newer hotels in the city. There was a certain shabbyness that accompanied the flooring- it lacked the new feeling I was hoping for but its hard to put my finger on exactly why. For the price, it was not expected. The no top-sheet thing freaks me out a little. If you get too hot there are no choices other than to kick up the AC, which kind of sucks for someone that is already chilly inside. I want to assume they are washing the covers all the time, but the stories I have heard about nasty hotels since I was a child cannot be shaken. Trust? The bar and restaurant: Plein Sud is the bar, and if you are smart you will just keep walking to the right and seat yourself in the second side-bar where its much quieter and the bartender is delightful. Its less of a scene, and the atmosphere is a bit Vegas-private-lounge-ish. You can sit on comfy couches behind heavy satin drapes and actually have a conversation in comfort. The wine selection and food is amazing-- they have a burger with truffle and bacon if you want it. I do not even need to mention any other item on the menu because this did it for me and pretty much everyone that accompanied me. Everything else is good too. The bartenders are really knowledgeable about the wine and super friendly. Back to the room situation: Since the box I had was getting smaller, or I was getting larger, I decided to upgrade after a couple days. For just $40 more I got the same size room, smaller clothing storage, but a better view of a side street, a king size bed (still no top sheet), and a bit of hallway. They do give you a bigger console to put clothes in, but half of it was taken up by the mini-fridge. In my last two days here I had bug bites all down my legs. I am not going to cause a frenzy and say they were bedbugs, but it was suspicious none the less. It is New York and I should have ripped up the single sheet and checked closely the first day I arrived. I think you can see those buggers, but by this time I just wanted out and to know for sure would have put me in a tailspin. Minus points for the ladies at the front desk- they do not seem thrilled to help and I usually just expect them to fake it. I needed a UPS pick up and after staying a week it would have been nice for them to offer to just call it in for me- clearly I was in a rush and was asking for help. Other than this, all the doormen and staff were great. Lastly- the gym is nice. Its not huge but it has everything including mats, weights, and Pilates circles. If its not crowded you can get in a decent work out. Newer treadmills was a bonus; I appreciate not sounding like a hamster on a wheel. Advice: If you are not dead-set on a trendy hotel that must be in Tribeca, I recommend Club Quarters World Trade Center. For my next trip I had to stay two weeks and this was a breath of fresh air after staying at the Smyth. It was super new, efficient with space, offered free water (they have dispensers and bottles everywhere), a great gym, and you can grab a free coffee or cappuccino every morning. Free wi-fi also goes a long way, which is another complaint I had about the Smyth. It was not as corporate as I expected. Last note on the Smyth: Is it "Smyth" like the English would say, or "Smith" like us Americans say it? No one knows-- all my NYC friends said it the English way and the staff seemed to waffle. I just say it fast so no one notices. Need trendy and central to Tribeca? Go here, but don't stay too long.
