Husband took me out for date night. And decided we should eat here. I had heard mixed things about it, but it was busy and looked nice.
This place has a slight identity problem, it kind of wants to be a gastropub, but it's not. It kind of wants to be fine dining but it's not. It's not casual dining, a sports bar or family dining either. I feel like it's trying to be too many things to too many audiences and not really doing any of them successfully.
That said, I like the decor and it's super clean and the food is really fresh.
The service...harried. Our waitress was in such a hurry that I initially thought she was rude, but then I realized she was just rushed. She was actually really good and nice.
The menu is definitely focused on fish, meat and potatoes, so if you are a vegan or vegetarian, you may as well go elsewhere.
We ordered two glasses of an Idaho Cabernet/Merlot blend. While it lacked the complexity and jammieness I usually like in a wind, it was very dry and had a nice berry not to it that I did like. It was the first Idaho wine I have ever enjoyed.
We opted for the salad bar over the soup. The lettuce was iceberg (not a fan), but it was all very fresh and well presented. The dressings were good.
We had the red crab and artichoke dip appetizer which was our very favorite part of the meal and I would go back for that alone. It was very rich and loaded with crab, artichoke and Parmesan with ample toasted sourdough toasts. It has a nutty, smoky flavor that was so good.
For an entree I chose the grilled sturgeon. Very nice sturgeon filet, grilled, buttered and seasoned beautifully. My mashed potatoes were creamy with the occasional little bite of potato. The country gravy was a surprise. Could use some seasoning.
Husband had the sturgeon nuggets which he said were good, the tartar sauce was homemade and really nicely balanced. The fries were a let down as they were plain old commercial steak fries. For a restaurant that seems to focus hard on local ingredients, I was let down and my husband was disappointed.
The presentation was really nice, but for the price we both kind of expected more.
I liked it and would probably go back (for lunch), my husband would not.
