Snow Lake Trailhead

Snow Lake was absolutely beautiful! The hike is definitely challenging — you gain over 1,600 feet of elevation in the first couple of miles. Near the top we had to put on cleats because of the snow, and getting down to the lake would’ve been perilous without them. The trail had a couple feet of snow that was slippery. The day itself was stunning: sunny, crisp, and cold in the best way. There were waterfalls everywhere from the sun melting the snow. It was a hard hike, especially carrying a heavy pack, but it was so worth it. We all had a great time!

Absolutely beautiful—felt like stepping into the world beyond the Wall in Game of Thrones. The hike up to the lake was breathtaking, and the frozen lake was stunning and soothing to the eyes. Don’t forget to check the weather conditions and make sure you have proper cold-weather gear to stay warm.

Amazing view in winter. Always snow in this season, If you hiking here in winter, make sure to keep warm, bring your snack, water and boots recommend( trails covered with water when snow melts) and Make sure to bring hiking poles! There are several waterfalls and creeks along the way, and you’ll need to step on wet rocks to cross. Without poles, it’s really easy to lose your balance and fall.

The view at the lake is just spectacular! The hike up was very challenging for me and lots of rocks, some of the stairs are too high and the way back can be slippery so be mindful of foot placement. That being said, the scenery is definitely worth it! 10/10

This is one of my favorite hiking trails in the PNW area!!! The elevation is moderate and it is so pretty along the way, with scenic photo points and views. The main highlight of this trail is the lake at the end—it’s definitely worthwhile to swim in the glacier water. The water is really blue and so surreal. Highly recommend if you love hiking trails.

As of 12/28/25, there was a small avalanche that covered the trail about halfway up to Snow Lake. We were unable to locate where the trail began again so we had to turn around. Except for this, what hiking we did was very scenic and the snow on the trail was nicely compacted. Had snowshoes but wish I had microspikes for the extra grip. Definitely a beautiful hike and will be returning in the summer.

We arrived at about 7:30am and there were plenty of people already there, but it wasn’t too busy. Parking can be paid for onsite via a parking machine before the trail. There is a lot of parking available but if you want to beat the crowds, I highly suggest being there no later than 8am. The hike itself is moderate but the terrain is challenging. VERY rocky for the majority of the hike. It’s not a wide trail, I’d suggest leaving your dog at home. There were SO many dogs, some off leashes. Keep your dog on a leash for crying out loud! And keep it close to you. A guy had a Shiba Inu on a lead that was at least 20 ft in front of him, you saw the dog before the owner. A woman behind me literally screamed as she was terrified of dogs. Just leave them at home for this hike, it’s too busy and congested. I also don’t recommend bringing small children. Like I said, the terrain is extremely unstable and tricky. If you go on a sunny day, def wear sunscreen and a hat. The trail is pretty exposed. This was a really great hike and a beautiful lake. Not quite 6 miles round trip and it took us a total of 3hrs. You won’t regret it!

This is a great, moderate hike. Lots of parking at the trailhead. Very rocky trail most of the way, so be prepared for that. Especially if it rained that day before. Rocks get slippery. You will need shoes with grip. Gorgeous fall colors right now. My favorite part is walking down the trail and seeing snow lake the whole way down. Beautiful views! The best times to go are during the week and early in the morning when there are no crowds. This can be a very popular hike. We started at 8am on a Tuesday, were the first ones on the trail and the first ones at the lake. Coming down around 11am we passed lots of hikers coming up.
