Where to Drink a Guinness in the Indianapolis Area This Winter | Eater

"On a cozy block in the hip neighborhood of Irvington, the less-than-a-year-old Snug combines old-world charm with a millennial neighborhood vibe. Sitting in a former salon, the 600-square foot space provides an authentic Irish drinking experience with Guinness, Harp, Kilkenny, Smithwick’s, and the famous Half & Half, catering to true lovers of Irish brews. For those looking to go lighter on their alcohol, Guinness Zero is available, too. Regulars and area newcomers can unwind and enjoy the essence of Irish tradition with a petite menu from Indy food artisans such as Native Bread and Pots & Pans Pies." - Brian Garrido

Stumbled upon this really cool ‘lil spot while in the area for Strangebird and highly recommend! My husband enjoyed our server’s curated whiskey flight and I much appreciated the inclusive beverage options [mocktails and infused bevs, too!] The grazing board was the perfect accompaniment… We’ll definitely be back! 🇮🇪

Everyone we spoke to was so welcoming and fun. Cute place, amazing selection of Irish whiskeys. Handmade menu covers, hand built woodworking and other artwork show how much care the owners have put into the place.

I came to SNUG on the recommendation of a friend when I asked about quiet bars in Irvington. I work evenings and like to unwind before heading home. I've been a few times, and must say the atmosphere DEFINITLY depends on the day. Mondays are quiet, with a great drink special. Thursdays are much busier, great for mingling. I've not tried much of the food, it is a bit pricey. I'm looking forward to visiting on Tuesdays when there is live traditional music.

Google
First time at the Snug, spaces limited but I loved the atmosphere. Highly recommend the Snug Butter Beer cocktail and the empanadas and hand pies were DELICIOUS!! Very welcoming and friend staff as well. They also offer more than a handful of non-alcoholic beverages and offer WiFi so I can’t wait to be back in the daytime to do some work and sip on some coffee/tea!!

Google
The SNUG is quite possibly the best Irish Whiskey pub/bar in America. Located in the historic Irvington neighborhood of Indianapolis the community that has been fostered at the SNUG in its short tenure is nothing short of amazing. While Jim Arnoldt is the face of the SNUG online there is an A-List team that runs the business, and works there. The SUNG is a small space - max capacity 49 according to the Fire Marshall - but it has the largest Irish Whiskey selection in Indianapolis, the state of Indiana, the Midwest, and quite possibly the country. There are regular Whiskey Club events where Distillers, Blenders, and Ambassadors will guide you through great whiskeys in a fun and engaging environment. The pint (of Guinness) is pretty darn good. On my scale it’s a 4.25 (out of 5) with the head having a decent grip to the glass as it’s happily consumed. Food wise your choice is either Tayto’s (9 flavors available) or a snack plate. If you’re looking for a slice of Irish hospitality in Indianapolis then this is the place for you. Sláinte

Google
Loved it! Quaint and definitely snug! Feels like a local neighborhood place. Snacks were excellent and their G &Tea was great! It's their spin with an orange flavor. Definitely recommend if you don't drink whiskey but still want to enjoy the bar. Parking on a busy night might mean you walk a few blocks.

Google
This is one of the best bars in Indy and the best Irish pub in the state by far. The staff and owner couldn't be more welcoming and knowledgeable. You can't beat the prices for quality Irish whisky or the variety. I always look forward to stopping by, and enjoying a few drams.

Google
Great way to spend an afternoon. Jim and the team are kind, thoughtful and have some seriously wicked senses of humor. Hands-down, some of the best Irish soda bread I have had in a long time. And I know right now my Irish grandma is cursing me from heaven. and the whiskey! Also a nice array of non-whiskey for the tourists in your respective families.

Yelp
I've never been to Ireland, but I would imagine they have many pubs like SNUG there! It was so quaint and cozy on a cool day. SNUG is located in historic Irvington. They really did a great job with the decor inside. Wood, greens and a tv with scenes of Ireland showing. Any whiskey or liquor is behind that bar. They have so much! I ordered an Irish coffee and it was perfect. Yum! They had a couple different types of chips called Tato's from Ireland. They have a whiskey club and have tastings.

Yelp
Pro's: Free street parking all around, cozy environment, friendly staff with great suggestions, a stellar drink menu with a few food items as well, fun atmosphere. Honestly that's it. Only a pro list for Snug. I can't wait to go back! They are having a block party for those who will be in the area for St. Paddy's Day and need a spot to celebrate!
google avatar

Yelp
Always friendly with great beer and a fabulous selection of Irish whiskies. Snug only seats about 44 people so the name really fits. If you're in the Irvington vicinity don't forget to swing by.

Yelp
Stopped by SNUG for the first time on St. Patrick's Day. What better time to visit an authentic Irish pub, right? It happened to be Monday and they had $5 pints. There were several Irish drafts on tap including a cider. I didn't do any whiskey but SNUG is known for their extensive list. You can get cocktails also and they were reasonably priced. The space is definitely "snug" for sure. It is no more than a glorified living room that doubles as a pub. From that perspective it's no different than pubs that you will find overseas. Hopefully when you arrive somebody else is leaving and you can snag a table. I definitely want to visit SNUG again the next time I am in Irvington. It's a cozy spot to grab a Black and Tan or two.

Yelp
All I could think about when I sat down was "snug as a bug in a rug" haha! Have you been to Snug? Because if not, you should check it out! My husband found it when he was looking for an Irish bar around St Patrick's Day and tonight was the first opportunity we've had to go. It's the most cozy little bar tucked in on a side street in downtown Irvington. It's all Irish drinks and the service was phenomenal when I needed help picking out a whiskey from their extensive list. They even have some yummy Irish pot pies and empanadas when you need a small snack. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
They're serious when they said Snug! I love this cozy little pub. They have a great selection of Whisky and some beer. I have enjoyed going for a pot of tea and some snacks too! They don't focus too much on food, but they provide the perfect pairings to go with your beverage. They have a Selection Of Tayto's (I believe these are imported chips ... or "crisps") with some traditional flavors and some adventurous ones! Their grazing board and hand pies are great if your appetite is a little heartier. The grazing board is great to share! I have met strangers and talked, had great times with friends, and ended up here when someone was doing a Halloween themed reading. I just love it and love coming back again and again!

Yelp
Thankfully we were able to get a table right away because like the sign says, it's SNUG! Friend chose our drinks and we weren't disappointed. We watched a squirrel in the woods on tv. Would recommend for a drink and chill atmosphere.

Yelp
I've never been to Ireland, but my partner has. They said that Snug is straight out of Ireland! The dark wood, the green accents, and the Irish whiskeys and beers...it was an excellent way to spend part of our Saturday outside of Ireland!

Yelp
We went here for a drink before dinner. This bar is lovely! It was such a fun escape - it truly felt like we were in Ireland. The bar tenders were super welcoming, as were the other people at the bar. It's so cozy and unique. The whiskey selection is fantastic and the hand pies smelled delicious. The Guinness was also 10/10. We'll be back!!

Yelp
What an adorable new spot in Irvington!! This Irish pub is small but mighty. The decor is so eclectic and I found myself looking around at all the Knick knacks. They obviously sell Guinness and other drafts, but what I really loved were their slight twists in classic cocktails. I got a gin and tonic but theirs is made with a rose infused gin. So good!! Bartenders were friendly and helpful and it seems like the place is pretty lively. It does get kinda loud but it's all in good fun and adds to the exciting vibe. This will definitely be a staple every time I'm in Irvington!

Yelp
We've only gotten into this place 1 time, get there earlier cause it gets packed and SNUG quickly! But what a fun environment. This place is a seat yourself establishment, the tables are small and the seats low to the ground but very comfortable. The food menu is limited and we have not gotten to try anything yet. The beer selection is mostly traditional Irish style beer with a full spirits bar, so they do have something for everyone . We will definitely try to beat the crowd and make our way back into!!

Yelp
One of our favorite places in Indy. Phenomenal Irish whiskey selection, wonderful service! Closest thing to a true Irish pub I've found outside of Ireland.

Yelp
A much needed addition to Irvington! A while ago I saw this place pop up on Google and it wasn't open yet, but I am so glad I found the time to check it out. It's cozy, Irish and snug-ley. A snug traditionally is a private cozy spot and the atmosphere here hits this. There are 8 small round tables scattered around, 1 actual snug and 5 bar seats. Get here early! My husband and I came in at literally 3:05pm - five minutes after it opened and at 3:08 every table and bar stool was already full! The glasses for whiskey are adorable and monogramed to match the logo. Super cute Irish tasting glasses. Limited cocktails, teas, mixed nuts, cheese plate of course Guinness, smithwicks, magners etc. This is a great way to try many Irish whiskies without breaking the bank- most tastings are $5-6. If you're looking for an Irish experience in your local Irvington spot look no further!

Yelp
Cool little place. While Irish, it reminded me of being back in England. The flavor selection on the crisps was a nice little dose of nostalgia. I'll definitely be going back.

Yelp
The Snug lives up to its cozy name. The space is tight, but the menu is accommodating. The staff is lovely and memorable. I wouldn't bring a bachelor party here- this is a place for lovers of flavor, culture, and authentic pub atmosphere. The pricing is extremely fair for the tasting experience and music. This is the tiny pub you've always pictured reading novels- a hideaway that's cozy and friendly.

John R.

Yelp
Great Irish pub! Excellent selection of whiskeys. Charming atmosphere. I would recommend at least going for the Irish charm. Service was excellent and informative about all the whiskeys. Food is mostly hand pies. Their alright. It's also a great place to go after a meal at one of the many restaurants in Irvington.

Yelp
SNUG is as cozy as we all hoped. This tiny Irish bar just opened in Irvington as the neighborhood watering hole, and is a labor of love for the owner that's become exactly what he imagined. Dark wood, deep greens, Magners and stouts and every Irish whiskey under the sun greets you as you walk in. Opening day filled the thirty seats up fast, but the service was faster. The staff slings drinks out quickly and with confidence and joy that is rare for most businesses on day one. It's hard not to want to spend the whole day here but you know you've gotta share when you have a good thing in front of you! In addition to the basics there are house cocktails as well, all inspired by either Ireland or Irvington. I couldn't be more excited to spend more time here with my neighbors!
google avatar

Yelp
Snug is the epitome of a hole-in-the-wall bar, but it has a unique charm that makes you want to stay despite the limited space. The cozy, intimate atmosphere creates a welcoming vibe, and the service is always on point. The bartenders are knowledgeable and attentive, adding to the experience. While the drink selection isn't vast--mainly whiskey and scotch-based spirits--it's perfect if that's your drink of choice. If you're into whiskey, this spot should definitely be on your list. Snug may be small, but it leaves a big impression.

Yelp
Top 3 bar in indy easily. Knowledge of staff is second to none (other than maybe storied company, but not when comes to Irish whiskey specifically). The ambiance is like stepping into a different world, as if in Ireland or Irish bar in Chicago, Boston, etc. The selection of the whiskey is way beyond most anything one will find in any other major city. Over 100 whiskies. They have curated flights but also can build own flight with half pours at 40% off of full pour price. Cocktails are limited but also fantastic. Highly recommend to any craft spirit/whiskey lover!

Yelp
New favorite place! An amazing addition to Irvington. This place is so cozy and inviting, never been to Ireland but this is how I imagine a bar there would feel! An intimate space to have a drink whether it be beer, wine, or a cocktail (NA options also available) We went on first Friday and had a photo printed on a guiness which was really fun. We will definitely become regulars, can't wait to spend a winter day here eventually! Staff was friendly and free parking was steps away from the door.

Yelp
Snug is exactly what you want it to be. The ambience is very Irish, and reminds you of being in a cozy den. If you're adverse to being near strangers, this is not your spot. However if you love cozy vibes - this is for you! They have beer, cocktails and lots of whiskey to choose from. Some snacks are also available. We didn't get any, but everyone was getting the charcuterie board which looked delicious. The staff is SO kind and really take care of you. I can't overstate that enough.
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
I wish I could give Snug 10 stars because they more than deserve it!!! Great whiskey, great pints, great people... Jim and Carey were amazing hosts. I can't wait to come back. This is my Irish Whiskey heaven!
google avatar

Yelp
This was a cute small bar. It was a little too SNUG for me, but the atmosphere was amazing and very inviting! Service was great and cocktails were delish.

Yelp
So impressed by this new spot! The drink prices were SO reasonable and the vibes were immaculate. Service was incredible even though it was crowded. I think I'm immediately a regular!

Yelp
This place has vaulted to the top of one of our favs. Great drinks and ambience. Called Snug for a reason. It's nice a snug here. The lamb pie was great and the charcuterie is very nice with Guinness cheese and Irish soda bread.

Yelp
Drove 45 minutes to try it out. Wife and I were really interested in their Dracula reading. Got there and no one behind the bar or any other staff greeted us. Absolutely nowhere to sit, so we felt awkward and left. Complete waste of gas.

Yelp
Irish pubs are one of my FAVORITE places to visit, and this one has easily become my FAVORITE one. Reminds me of the many, many Irish pubs that I visited all over Ireland. The snug room truly lives up to its name, as does the rest of the pub. This place is a MUST visit for anyone coming to spend time in Irvington, what a fantastic addition to our beloved neighborhood :)

Yelp
A favorite place in Indy, unquestionably. Welcoming vibe, cool decor and, of course, great drinks.

Mark H.

Yelp
Unique atmosphere all the way around. Had the best time on New Year's Eve. Looking forward to more music and drinks at Snug.

Colin C.

Yelp
Great pub, it is a little gem of a place in Irvington. Superb whiskey list and the Guinness was well poured
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Very small Irish whisky bar with a great atmosphere. Owners were serving behind the bar and made you feel right at home. Impressive selection of Irish whiskey and other alcohols from Ireland. Best surprise was at the end with the bill where they do no tipping Will definitely be back

Yelp
Wonderful Irish pub in Irvington. This place is perfect with all the details thought out, from the service to the decor to the coziness. My favorite bar in the city right now.

Yelp
Thanks for the great service, very cozy atmosphere, very good cocktails and great selection of whiskeys and gins. Guaranteed You will make new friends.

Yelp
Loved the cozy feel and warm welcome from the Snug. The advice on beer and whisky was helpful. The Irish charcuterie board was deliciously presented to our table with high reviews!

Yelp
Such a fun St. Patricks's Celebration! Great place with great staff! Can't wait to return on a non-holiday!

Kayla A.

Yelp
I love this amazing little pub! The service was excellent and the details in the menu and the environment were spot on! I felt like I was back in Ireland for a moment!

Bill W.

Yelp
This new Irish spot is as authentic of an Irish Pub this side of Galway. Over 90 different whiskeys, perfectly drawn pints of Guinness. I sat down waiting for my other two friends to show up and had a good conversations with the groups sitting to either side of me, just like it is in Ireland. This is my new spot
