Soba Dining Sora: This Primo Japanese Soba Shop’s First United States Location Is Opening in San Francisco | Eater SF

"Set to open in July 2025 in the former Aloha Warehouse space (technically located at 1731 Buchanan Street, found on one of the complex's walking paths) and situated next door to Hinodeya Ramen, this will be the group's first U.S. location dedicated to its soba concept. Keiichiro Yonekura, the U.S. manager for Sasala Dining which owns both businesses, says, “Finally we can open Soba in Japantown,” Yonekura says. “We’re so excited.” Final details of the San Francisco menu aren’t yet available, but chef and owner Masao Kuribara’s menu in Japan is meant to provide an accessible and laidback approach for diners and will make the leap to this new location; the main star of the restaurant is the rustic noodle dishes. Yonekura says they will import Japanese buckwheat noodles for the restaurant, which typically arrive at the table alongside just-ground sesame seeds, ginger, wasabi, and bowls of soup or broth, depending on the set meal. The Japan menu also features tempura, fried skewers, and sake, some of which are expected to port over to the upcoming restaurant. This pared-down approach counters Kuribara’s glitzy resume: he cooked at Kicchou in Tokyo before becoming the head chef at the Japanese embassy in Holland where, according to the business’s website, he cooked for emissaries including then-Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto and former U.S. President Bill Clinton. Like its Japanese predecessors, this is the second restaurant from the group not operating under the Hinodeya name." - Paolo Bicchieri

Came here with a large group. Our waitress did a tremendous job! No mix ups, everything was out in a timely manner, and everything was delicious. We shared meals so I got to try quite a bit. My favorite was the Scottish Salmon, the tuna tartare, pork dumplings, and the crispy tofu! The ambiance is very pretty and super spacious. Great spot!

Google
All of us enjoyed the food, seared rare tuna, filet bulgogi dolsot, duck roll, and the smashed burger were delicious. According to my companions, sushi was average. I think the amount of meat in the bulgogi dolsot was also a bit on the low side. Honestly we thought the place could use a better music playlist. The server was nice and helpful, we were celebrating a birthday and she helped arrange and pack the cake.

Soba provides a memorable experience to share dinner and great conversation with a friend. After beautifully crafted cocktails, we enjoyed the Chopped Salad and Crispy Tofu. The visual artistry and flavor bomb of the Chocolate Maki is simply devine.

Google
GREAT food. The veggie sushi roll was excellent! My cousin Anne thoroughly enjoyed the teriyaki glazed salmon. Good place to take a first date. Lights are SO DIM she won't notice if you pick your nose. NO VEGAN options, other than to order carnivorous fare and they will gladly withhold the meat, egg or cheese (full price).

I visited this restaurant for the first time last weekend, and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I will definitely be visiting again. The host was told it was my first time, so she guided us through the restaurant and its layout. We sat outside and our server, Savannah was prompt and attentive. We started with the short rib bao buns (my favorite), pork lettuce wraps, and the Soba California rolls. I absolutely loved my Korean-style Miso halibut. My friend enjoyed their teriyaki glazed Scottish salmon. For dessert, we had the corn mochi crumble. That may have been the best dessert I've ever had. It had texture and fresh, robust flavors. Every part of this culinary experience was wonderful, and I highly recommend it to those wanting a cool date night. The ambiance, music, service and food were all wonderful.

I've finally been able to try this place after hearing about it - it definitely lived up to the hype. Best Asian-fusion choices I've seen that are unique, flavor-forward with a comfort food feel. Matt the bartender was excellent, very attentive and help guide me through my first experience with great tips & recommendations - Will definitely be back & can't wait !

Google
NO ONE EVER OFFERED TO REFILL MY WATER. Waitress was very nice but never stopped to see if everything was OK. I ordered Pad Thai..the noodles were SO mushy...the tofu were very large and tasteless... had they been smaller perhaps they would have picked up the taste of the dish. When I said how mushy the noodles were, I was not offered something else. It was a free dinner as it was a birthday coupon. Had I been paying. I would have sent it back as it was unacceptable. Very disappointed. Can't see going back.

Google
Great atmosphere, especially on the lower levels. The food was delicious, the gluten free options are clearly marked in the menu. We ordered Pad Thai and Korean-Style Miso Halibut, both were great. The pad thai is huge portion, we both had a bit and there was still a lot for lunch the next day! We also had to try the Chocolate Maki, of course. The desert wasn't as great as other things, but the presentation is spectacular. A great place!

Yelp
We stopped by last Wednesday for happy hour around 5pm or so and it wasn't crowded. Happy hour is only in their lounge/bar area that's on the right hand side of the ground floor. The space is cute with a mix of normal tables and chairs and soft seating with low tables. I like that they have both food and drink specials for their happy hour. The tuna nachos are a pretty big portion and delicious. I also really liked the crab Rangoon dip.

Yelp
Stopped into Soba for a cocktail and a light bite--just needed to relax and cool off from the hot, humid Pittsburgh day. As always, the service was impeccable--attentive, friendly, and professional without being overbearing. I was in the mood for something tropical and ordered the Big Blue Wave. It hit the spot--refreshing, not too sweet, and bright blue (bonus!). For food, I tried the Sichuan Bang Bang Chicken. It was just okay. With ingredients like chili oil, English cucumber, and gem lettuce, I expected a bit more punch or heat, but the flavor fell a little flat. That said, Soba is still a fantastic spot for a cocktail, a nibble, and a laid-back atmosphere. Perfect for winding down and treating yourself to a little escape. The ambiance is chill and stylish--perfect for low-key evenings.

Yelp
Stopped by for dinner last nite while visiting Pittsburgh. Nice restaurant w FREE valet parking. Friendly staff. We had the tuna crispy rice, short rib dumplings, Thai corn chowder n chopped salad. Never had raw tuna before but the tuna crispy rice tasted good. The dumplings were tasty too. The chopped salad was a big portion enough for 2 people n had a lot in it and the dressing was v good. Thai corn chowder was ok. Tasted good but nothing to brag about. For entrees we had the Korean red snapper, crispy fried whole branzino n drunken noodles. The branzino was really crispy and had a nice sauce n tasted really good. The red snapper filet was delicious too. Had pork belly in it which was not crispy.the sauce was flavorful. Since there was no rice I requested for a side of rice n it was good w the sauce. The drunken noodles tasted good w beef n veggies n the sauce was good. We topped it off w sticky rice n mango n the chocolate pretzel tower. The sticky rice w mango had mango ice cream n a crunchy side was good. The chocolate pretzel tower was heavenly. Was so good. Not too sweet. Would highly recommend it. Tx u for a great meal. Will be back again.

Yelp
Stopped in for an early dinner after attending Picklesburgh. Service was very attentive. Drinks were good. My daughter loved the guava margarita. We shared a few things. The tempura shrimp and the pork dumplings were both fantastic. The chirashi bowl was disappointing. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
I hate to give a 1 star review, but that's the only way to describe my experience at Soba. The biggest issue was the food. Although the presentation was there, each dish had issues. Most notably the pad Thai noodles were very overcooked and mushy, and the dumplings were not hot. Additional cons that wouldn't be a big deal if the food had been ok: -We were seated in the front corner of the deck, and the water from the rain or condensation was dripping onto the seats. -Bottled beer was served room temperature -The service started off good but the staff did not check on drinks throughout the meal. We had to flag staff down for the check. -I've never had this tough of seaweed on sushi before. It was so chewy that it ruined the roll. The roe was an overpowering flavor too.

Yelp
Got the drunken noodles. Hand delivered by my friend. Box was kind of falling apart. First bite very salty. Beef tenderloin cooked well. Broccoli cooked well. Noodles good. Thought there would be more noodles when I got drunken noodles. Maybe I'm too drunk to see them. I saw a lot of bean sprouts.

Yelp
Upscale Asian fusion with a focus also on fish/sushi. I had the chirashi bowl and it was a lovely assortment presented beautifully. I also had a cocktail (a refreshingly sweet lychee cocktail) that was very well made.

Yelp
We tried Soba for Valentine's day and were pleasantly surprised. It was easy to find parking nearby and they do offer complimentary valet. We had a reservation and were seated upstairs. I'm not gonna lie, this space is dark. Really dark. So older folks make sure you can take a pic of the menu to enlarge or use your light. It's a great romantic vibe but hella hard to see what the food preparation even looks like. We had to ask our server what herbs were in one dish. We tried the spicy pork lettuce cups that came with crisp little romaine leaves and a dish of the pork that you could add to each leaf yourself. It was not overly spicy and very delicious. We also tried the pork dumplings that came in a really yummy five spice ginger soy sauce. The pork was a denser grind and nicely flavored. For entrees, we had the short rib over mashed potatoes with tempura mushrooms that was very tender and flavorful. The drunken noodles with filet pieces was truly divine. I would definitely order that again. Wine selections were great and their warm sake carafe was perfect with our apps. Our server was very attentive and made sure we were enjoying our meal.

Yelp
I'm allergic to shellfish and our waitress was super accommodating and warned me about a few dishes that weren't advertised anywhere as having shellfish. She made some fantastic recommendations for shellfish free dishes that were amazing. We had the spicy tuna roll, the double salmon roll and the yellow chicken curry noodles. The noodles were the star of the show and the portion was crazy! We have lots of tasty leftovers. The ambiance of the restaurant is very sexy, cute and date night vibes. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
The service is elevated and highly efficient. Additionally, the atmosphere is upscale and intimate while the restaurant is lively. Overall, the service was great! My favorite thing on the menu was the Tuna Crispy Rice and the Spicy Tofu Lettuce Wraps! Highly recommend. They also have free parking in the lot which is very convenient.

Yelp
This Asian fusion restaurant offers an upscale dining that blends precision with comfort food. While some dishes impressed, others such as the pad thai swimming in sauce were not favored, especially given the price point. Standouts included the maki rolls (any kind), YUM! Beautifully plated, fresh, with balanced flavors. Also, thai corn chowder soup! Even though it was a warmer spring day, the sweetness of the corn paired with the coconut base and hint of lemongrass really hit the spot! I appreciate the convenience of being able to check out at your table via a QR code as service was somewhat lacking throughout the evening.

Yelp
Had an awesome dinner at Soba! The vibe was super chill and the food was delicious. Nicole was our server and she was amazing. super friendly, attentive, and made sure we were well taken care of the whole night. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
Was craving some good, fresh sushi and found the perfect spot!! Soba satisfied all the cravings and it was the perfect amount of food for my boyfriend and I. My first time trying sashimi as well and it was light, fresh, and flavorful. Also, pretty reasonably priced compared to our other date nights in the city so that's a plus! We also got the lychee heartbreaker and toki old fashioned (not pictured) and they were great as well!

Yelp
After many years of visiting Soba, and many good memories and experiences (pre-pandemic) I have to say that the last couple of times we visited were just not good. Pre-pandemic we came here several times a year. Birthdays, anniversaries, friend's birthdays. It was always a great celebrating spot. The last time we came was one of the worst experiences we've had, and I proclaimed I would not be interested in a return visit. I made reservations for my husband's birthday. I made it for 7pm on a Thursday and we were early (6:45ish). I assumed we would be done and on our way in 40-45 minutes. We arrived and were seated in the bar area along the wall, with a mostly empty bar and scarcely seated dining area. Our server came to get our drink orders. We both only wanted waters, but I said I would also like to order an appetizer and went with the tofu lettuce wraps. He left and we chatted for a bit. What I couldn't see since it was behind me, but what my husband saw was our server at another table for about 10-15 minutes socializing with the people there. We continue to wait and wait and still did not see him again. About 20 minutes goes by and he shows back up, no food in hand, and apologies and says he got the order in late. I mention to my husband that I was getting the feeling we were forgot about because we didn't order drinks. And now he hasn't even entered the app order. That's when he says he's witnessed him talking at length to another patron, (who appeared to be a friend) so he is clearly behind. The general theme of the night. Another 10-15 minutes passes and finally our app comes out. So, we waited about 35 minutes from time of order to receive our app and he only stopped over once to let us know the app was delayed. He tried the whole drop and run routine, but I was not having that I said we'd like to order. He seemed a little surprised, like oh ok, and pulls out a pad. I kept my cool, and let it slide and we ordered. My husband got the salmon, and I ordered the Vegetable Dolsot Bi Bim Bap, no egg. We waited for about 15-20 more minutes before our entrees arrived. I wanted to be gone by this time and if we were waiting on appropriately, we should have. When my food came, and I started eating it I found it to be so overwhelmingly vinegary. It had kim chi but this was so one note and consuming, just not good. I picked around the bowl and decided I was done with it but would take the rest home thinking I could maybe pull out the remaining tofu, which was the best part, and add to my own rice and veggies. My husband was also a disappointed in his dish. He looks forward to salmon for his birthday but the overall quaintly wasn't there. We wait a while more as I was birddogging the room on the look out for our once again MAI waiter. I saw him and flagged him down, he saw me and turned around to go out of the room. I was just holding my tongue because I didn't want to upset my husband on his birthday. He finally came back and brought over a couple caramels and some chocolate on a small plate that said happy birthday for my husband. Before he had a chance to split again, I asked for my leftovers to be boxed and the check. Took another 5-7 minutes when he came back with the check. I quickly signed it and said let's go. He never brought the leftovers out and I said I am not waiting any longer. Can't imagine another return this was a very unpleasant experience from start to end.

Yelp
I think this spot does good fusion food! It's really nice and trendy on the inside. The sushi is very fresh and the presentation is nice. I did not love the appetizers though. Usually you aim to impress with the appetizers since it's a small plate you need to make an impression with. But the tuna crispy rice was bad. The rice was chewy and stick to your teeth in a bad way like it was fried before and reheated. It was not crispy at all. I didn't love the fried tofu either, the texture was not good. My friends loved their mains though. I liked the drinks a lot, their drinks are really creative and fun with an Asian twist. The chocolate maki for dessert is awesome. Service was really slow honestly but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt since we had a big party and it was a busy Thursday night. I really wanted to like this spot since I've heard great things but it's only decent.

Yelp
We've been to Soba several times previously and enjoyed it a lot. But kept forgetting to write a review. This time we only took a picture of the appetizers - crispy tofu and spicy pork lettuce wraps. Dinner was so good we ate it before we could take photos! Our server was on it and checked on us periodically. Great space (a little dark and could use a little more lighting) with a cool vibe! Give it a try if you haven't been here yet.

Yelp
Excellent Japanese-ish fusion in Shadyside "Hey, how about Soba?" "Soba is never wrong." Countless visits across many years: This upscale Japanese fusion bar/restaurant delivers consistently solid renditions on their seasonal menu which is supported by one of the better scratch bars in Pittsburgh. Staff is consistently gracious and atmosphere is warm. Highly recommended for dinner or light bites or even a cocktail to finish out the evening.

Yelp
Soba is my favorite restaurant of the BBRG (Big Burrito Restaurant Group). Tucked away from the bustle, this elevated Asian restaurant offers a refined yet welcoming atmosphere that sets the tone the moment you walk in. The interior is sleek and moody, with warm lighting, tasteful minimalism, and just enough edge to feel modern without being overdone. It's the kind of place where the music is low, the service is attentive, and the vibe invites you to stay a while. Brennan took great care of us. The cocktail program deserves its own praise. The bar team clearly knows their craft, offering a menu full of bold flavors. We started with the lychee heartbreaker and the sakura sour. We decided to get all share plates for the evening. The short rib dumplings are a new addition to the menu and WOW-The braised short rib was melt in your mouth tender, wrapped in delicate dough that was just the right thickness to hold everything together without feeling doughy. Then came the crispy tofu, and it was anything but an afterthought. Lightly battered and fried to a beautiful golden crunch, the tofu had this almost airy crisp on the outside, while staying pillowy soft inside. For the second course of food, Abigayle brought over fresh plates as we enjoyed the tuna crispy rice and the spicy tuna roll. The tuna crispy rice was the kind of dish that hits every note- texture, flavor, and visual appeal. Each square of rice was pan-seared to golden perfection, with a crisp outer layer that gave way to warm, slightly sticky rice inside. It had that satisfying crunch that makes you slow down just to savor it. As for the spicy tuna roll, every bite delivered a layered experience-spicy, savory, creamy, and crisp all at once. Soba is ideal for a date night, intimate celebration, or a slow evening catching up with friends, this spot blends ambiance, flavor, and hospitality in a way that feels grown, grounded, and just a little indulgent. Can't wait to book my next reservation.

Yelp
Made a reservation for 630 on a Friday which was perfect! By time we left around 8 it had filled up so it was very loud and hard to hear my friend on the other side of the table. I started with the soba California roll and it was delicious. I got the 2 short rib bao buns and they were delicious. The meat was so flavorful. I asked if they could do the chocolate maki to go and they were very accommodating. It was a yummy chocolate mousse with a chocolate sauce, pistachio cream and melon. Would definitely go back! There was also complimentary valet parking which was such a nice touch.

Yelp
Asian fusion and more. Interesting menu with assorted plates from seafood , vegetables and meat combos. I did try today small plate specials. Baby octopus ... little over down. May need some improve. Reasonable Wine by the glass. Perhaps adding some other origins will shine the list... C.

Yelp
The food was really, really good! It was a little expensive compared to similar restaurants but worth it. The service was good, and the restaurant is quite big and nice. It's not too loud, so you can still easily have a conversation. It is a good spot for a nice date.

Yelp
I absolutely love the vibe and atmosphere of Soba! I came here a few nights ago with my boyfriend for a date night and it's the perfect spot for that. Their menu is so unique I had the hardest time deciding what I wanted sooo my boyfriend and I shared a few appetizers. We got the crispy tofu, spicy tuna roll, chicken bao buns, fried pork dumplings, and chocolate pretzel stack for dessert. For a drink, I ordered the Umami Martini. All of the food was extremely flavorful BUT my absolute favorites have to be the crispy tofu and the chicken bao buns. I absolutely LOVED the crispy tofu. It was so spicy and fantastic!! The chicken bao buns were so delightful and cute. The dessert tho... the chocolate pretzel stack... was heavenly!! You definitely need to order it if you ever dine at Soba. The martini was really great as well. I ordered two :) The service was fabulous as well. I loved our waitress. I wish I could remember her name, but she was so sweet! Bonus: They have free valet parking so you don't have to stress to parallel park!!

Yelp
There's something a little T.G.I. McScratchy's Goodtime Fooddrinkery about this place. It really wants to make you feel posh and urban, but it has the soul of a contrived selfie backdrop. The menu is Asian fusion meets strip mall chain, and while nothing is bad, nothing has the sort of subtlety that marks fine dining. The service, however, was excellent. But there's no reason to spend $35-$45 on a piece of fish here when so many superior options exist in town.

Craig K.

Yelp
Beautiful decor, excellent service and delicious food. They have sushi and many Asian inspired dishes. A full bar with speciality cocktails and Mocktails. I had the Snapper which was perfectly prepared. Make a reservation because it's a popular spot.

Yelp
Went to Soba on Valentine's Day and thoroughly enjoyed our dinner! Service was friendly and we were seated immediately. They have a nice selections of specialty cocktails and extensive drink selection. The inside of the restaurant is beautiful, with a fireplace and unique lighting. It feels cozy and warm and is a great place for a date night or a dinner with friends. We had the special Four course Tasting Menu. The Sea Bass was the best I have ever had! You cannot go wrong with whatever you choose! We hope to be back soon!

Yelp
I came here with a group of about 15 so we really took up space and had a large crowd. The service was great. Our waitress did an amazing job, no mix ups, everything was out in a timely manner The space and ambiance is beautiful. I really enjoyed the atmosphere, the bar area, the outdoor seating AND indoor seating. Such a spacious place. Free valet parking outside also. The food was good. We shared a bunch of apps. I think I liked the apps better than some of the entrees. The Scottish Salmon entree was a star. It was stellar. My favorite entree. Pad thai was just okay, the salad was just okay, the tuna tartare might be one of my favorites in all of Pittsburgh! So there were items that definitely stood out and some that I would sub next time. The dumplings were also heaven! If you're looking for a nice place for a date, celebrating something, or just want a posh dinner, this is it!

Yelp
I brought my husband here for his birthday and it was so special to be welcomed with a birthday card signed by the staff! We were early for our 5:30 reservation, but were seated immediately and actually were the only people in the dining room for quite a while. Service was friendly and quick, but our meal was nicely and intentionally paced. The entire experience was relaxing, with warm decor, and a great soundtrack. We started with the Short Rib Bao Buns, which featured juicy and flavorful meat. Then, we selected a daily special Szechuan dumpling - my favorite item of the night. The dumplings had a really nice sauce, and the overall texture was perfect. For an entree, I ordered the Thai Chicken Curry and was surprised by the massive portion size. You can definitely share this with your partner! Overall a really excellent dinner with lots of great flavors and many options.

Yelp
Soba's food and drink menus have something for everyone, and the décor of the restaurant is beautifully done. The plum sangria was delightful and not overly sweet, and the miso caramel martini was flavorful. The sichuan pork dumplings and the drunken noodles were incredible from start to finish. However, the service left something to be desired. Our server told us that our appetizers would come out first, but we found that only a few minutes passed between our appetizers and our entrees being brought out. One member of our party had to ask where their dumplings were twice, and they were only then brought out after their entree. Our server did not check in with us at all during our meal, and it took roughly thirty minutes for our cards to be returned to us despite us watching them pass our table multiple times. Overall, we enjoyed our food and drinks, but the service could have been better.

Michelle Z.

Yelp
Absolutely LOVE this place! I've gone at least twice and gotten takeout before too and it never disappoints. It's modern Asian fusion, and the menu consists of a mix of unique and classic small plates and really hearty, comforting big plates. Out of all the dishes I've tried, some standout ones would be the chirashi bowl, chicken bao buns, korean style miso halibut, and thai chicken curry. Chefs kiss. Also -- you have to save room for dessert. They have really fun and creative Asian inspired options like black sesame creme brûlée (to die for). Inside ambiance is gorgeous -- it's dimly lit so super intimate and romantic, and decorated beautifully. Would be perfect for a date night, a fancier dinner with friends, or taking your parents when they're in town. Service is always exceptional and makes you feel really well taken care of. Wait staff is always happy to take questions and give you recs on the menu! Definitely recommend coming here if you're in town!

Fred R.

Yelp
Fred R. I dine regularly at Soba because the food is consistently excellent. The atmosphere of the bar is among the most comfortable in town and the service is always the best. I have come to trust bartender Megan for her menu recommendations. She always knows what is new and wonderful as the menu subtly and frequently changes, and she never has suggested a dish I haven't enjoyed.

Ben M.

Yelp
SOBA was the first restaurant we visited at the start of our foodie journey and LOVED it! The drinks were amazing, particularly their lychee martini. We had their Shitake Mushroom Spring Rolls, Kung Pao Mushrooms, & Crispy Tofu for appetizers. For our main meal, Ben had the Vegetable Maki (vegetarian-friendly) and I had the crispy branzino (a whole fish!). What we really enjoyed about this place is their ability to make some of their large plates vegetarian-friendly! We finished with their Strawberry Panna Cotta which was the perfect sweet & light treat. They change their menu over the seasons so we highly recommend checking out their latest menu!

Justin H.

Yelp
Delicious meal. Smoked old fashioned with Japanese whiskey. Soft crab curry was so good. Had the blue crab California roll for dessert which was the perfect ending.
google avatar

Robert S.

Yelp
On business from Lancaster, checked the menu and the food sounded delicious. Got there and ordered the Bronzino and pork belly in a spicy sauce. It was fantastic! The ambiance is nice and quiet. Ordered the best tasting vanilla ice cream and had a very tasty drink that I can't remember the name. The service was very nice and the order didn't take long. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Really wanted to like this place since I've been meaning to go for a while and it seemed like a great Asian restaurant. Went for an anniversary dinner this week and was underwhelmed by the food. I ordered the duck fried rice and while the duck was really good, the fried rice was wet and it was kind of off putting. I love a fried rice that it fried, airy, dry, etc. but this one had an almost risotto consistency. My partner ordered the seared tuna and was not a fan of the chopped nuts they put on top of the fish. I do have to mention that we did also order the rock shrimp and enjoyed it. My dad's cooking specialty growing up was rock shrimp and I thought this one was cooked perfectly. I do have to note that my server was amazing and the interior is beautiful - if this was underground it would definitely give speakeasy vibes. In addition, my cocktail, the lychee heartbreaker, was also delicious. So while I probably won't be returning for the large dishes anytime soon, I'd recommend this place for the drinks and small bites!

Kaelyn T.

Yelp
Being a person in the service industry myself, I try my best to always give the benefit of the doubt and I really hate to leave a bad review, but I don't know how else to describe the experience we had here. We had an anniversary reservation as a party of two and did not get greeted for 10 mins while two tables after us immediately received service and water. Another server who was not in charged of our section made eye contact with us multiple times and saw that we only had menus with nothing else on the table, but she never approached to at least check on us either. When we did finally get greeted, there was just no apology or explanation for why we had to wait for someone to take care of us for that long. On top of that, the table that we were sat at was wobbly. The wok smashburger was tasty and so was the shrimp tempura, but I did find the crispy rice portion of their tuna crispy rice cold. I understand if the tuna cools it down a bit but it was straight up cold, hard, and just didn't feel fresh. Overall, the service just didn't seem very attentive and it was very distasteful to have everyone else around you receive and finish their meal before you when you got here first. It's completely understandable that a table can be overlooked during service and our server maybe didn't see us sitting down, but for 10-15 mins with other staff members walking around us and no acknowledgment from anyone is crazy. I hope that this is just a one time experience.

Yelp
This is not my first time at soba and it will not be my last. Always enjoy coming here. My forever favorite order has to be the crispy tuna rice along with the drunken noodles! Every bite I've ever had here has been good and very consistent! Love the ambiance especially if you get a seat upstairs! The bar area is also beautiful! Service is always on point and look forward to my next visit!

Yelp
With limited good Ramen and Asian spots in PA this was a nice find, the atmosphere was very nice and decor, as usual I love going to a restaurant when they fist open or after a lunch rush, I had a nice table in the back near the window with a street view, gave a very nice grown and sexy vibe, ideal for a nice date or solo date. My server was very attentive and provided nice insight on my selections it all looked great. So I let my stomach lever lol. For sushi, I had the Tuna Crispy Rice and California role, Chicken Bao Buns, Short Rib Bao Buns, and the Thai Chicken Curry. Everything was great, but I love a good curry and this rendition was very good I really liked the addition of the crunchy noodles.

Yelp
The food at Soba tasted so good. Came here with my hubby and friends, we had a great time. Love the chill vibe and decor of this restaurant. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. We made a reservation and were seated within minutes. There was a good bit of people there when we arrived, not loud which was good for conversation. Would definitely recommend visiting.

Yelp
Soba is incredible. Everything I have ever eaten there was amazing and the service top notch. We love trying new things every time we go to this super trendy place. Now I want soba. To the Batmobile! Happy Eating!

Yelp
A favorite of ours in Shadyside. Drinks are reasonably priced. Food is unique and really well thought out. Don't sleep on the duck or the chicken bao. The service is attentive but it can get busy. But reservations are easy enough to secure. And if you can't find parking, you can always valet. A few warnings - if you're going looking for actual soba noodles, you won't find them. And I would not by any means call this authentic. It's definitely more fusion. The miso halibut, for example, isn't exactly "miso". Still very good but it was more of miso undertone with a heavy dose of pork belly and tobake, and not what I would have had growing up. That said, I like the quality and creativity of their work.

Yelp
One of my favorite dinners in Pittsburgh to date! The duck fried rice, fried chicken bao buns, and steamed dumplings were amazing!! The server had great recommendations!

Yelp
We had reservations at 7:30 for outside and we were seated immediately, but downstairs by the windows. Close enough we figured, not worth trying to check why the patio wasn't available. We looked at the menus as we waited and our waiter took our drink orders (2 wines). We waited and waited. No one checked on us. It was almost 8 when we got our wines and he took our order. It was so odd. Our food arrived within reasonable time of it being placed. The chicken baos were average at best. The bao was dense on the outside as if it had dried out. I didn't care for the fried chicken. Duck fried rice was good. Duck was cooked well, it can be delicate to get well. The fried rice was fine, nothing to rave about. Crispy Branzino had a wonderful presentation. I had to mix all the sides together and there was an abundance of cilantro that made the sides hard to maneuver. Taste wise it was solid. A different person came to check on us and take our plates away, noting the waiter felt we had to wait. Indeed we did. They sent a dessert on the house. Nice touch, but still not acknowledging what had happened and why it took so long to get us the wines. From the service aspect, it left me disappointed.

Yelp
Called last minutes to get reservation on Friday night. They did have a patio table which was fine with us. Place is bit dark but overall nice services. food were surprising good. We didn't expect much as it said Japanese fusion.

Yelp
This is the place to go for ambiance, but not food. Soba gives good vibes for Asian fine dining, the decor and service is excellent. Actually, decor-wise it might be one of my favorites in Pittsburgh. Its interior is beautiful and refined. It also has a cute patio for outdoor seating. If only the food was better:( their menu is a bit Asian fusion, but I'd say not good Asian fusion. Taste is neither like Asian food or decent fine dining food for its high price. [Thai Chicken Curry] is probably the only dish I like from soba and would order a second time. Good portion, good flavor. Would say it is overpriced though. [Kung Pao Mushroom] [Rock Shrimp Tempura] wasn't great. The shrimp was a bit soggy and had too much sauce. It was also really small, like popcorn shrimp. Kung Pao Mushroom tasted a bit strange. [Double Salmon Roll] was ok, nothing wrong with it but not much salmon for "double salmon". [Duck with Ginger Fried Rice] I forgot exactly which dish this was. The duck was good, but wasn't a fan of the ginger rice. Felt the ginger taste was too overpowering. [Pad Thai] was decent, don't remember the [Crispy Branzino] that much so nothing wrong with it. Dessert and drinks were much better and aesthetic. We tried most of the cocktails on the menu and agreed the favorite was [Bangkok Mule].

Yelp
I've always walked past this place and wanted to stop in and try and boy was I happy I did! The service is always top notch and the food is a true treat. The drunken noodles are my fav, the sure do know how to cook a filet let me tell you. The drinks are unique and the appetizer menu has a lot of great offers. I've got the sushi from here it was very fresh. The lighting is a bit on the darker side, but nothing wrong with that. In the summer the windows are open for fresh air. They have multiple levels to their seating area. Great place with greag

Yelp
To start, the service is great! Nicole was very welcoming and was so nice, the interior of the restaurant was so gorgeous. On the other hand, for the price you pay this may not add up, we ordered the passionfruit mule (with sprite instead of ginger ale) which was soooo good. We also ordered the grapefruit basil smash which didn't really have any flavor tbh, just tasted like water mostly. We also ordered the vegetable roll which was great, the ingredients were very fresh. The spicy crispy tuna was not that great, the rice tasted kind of old like it's been sitting in the oil and it was just cold, the tuna on it though was okay but def not spicy. We also ordered the pad thai which was pretty good just wish they had less tofu, felt like that was the entire plate. The scottish salmon was also okay prof my fav dish, it was made medium rare and the veggies were great. We also got the chance to order some dessert, we ordered the mango sorbet which was SOOOO good i'd come back just to have that. The chocolate pretzel stack had a great mousse but the pretzel kind of tasted stale. Overall the food wasn't superb but I do think this place is a must.

Yelp
This place used to be great - now the food has gone downhill in a big way. Nothing was good- but it sure was expensive. Had a crab egg roll - the sauce had this annoying lemony taste. Had a rice dish of some sort that was mushy and bland. Had the shrimp rock tempura and that was fine, but I was amazed how much spicy mayo was used all throughout the various foods. The desert I actually sent back it was so bad - the Almond Mochi cake; I couldn't in good conscience pay $15 or whatever it was- nor could I actually bear to eat it. Also, for years Big Burrito had this great free entree on your birthday system if you were on their mailing list, and I'd take all my friends there. Now you can't use it on weekends... which is literally when I'm being social for my birthday- so it's a disincentive to bring other people - stupid. Sadly, not going back. This place has gotten complacent; it was amazing back when the food scene was less competitive in Pittsburgh.... Now it's below average.

Yelp
This place was recommended to us by family and it was very good! I've been craving sushi lately and the chirashi bowl really hit the spot. The rock shrimp tempura was also amazing. My only complaint was it was like 80 degrees inside the restaurant.
