"To convey the unique character of the soba, the owner-chef prepares juwari with no wheat flour. He made the stone mortar he uses to grind the flour himself, back when he was an apprentice. The entire shop reverberates with the sound of buckwheat being ground slowly so as to retain the fragrance. In addition to soba, Rojina offers items that pair well with alcohol. Tofu with yuba on top and manganji togarashi with jako are two typical Kyoto appetisers served before the soba." - Michelin Inspector

There are many soba restaurants in Kyoto, so you can eat according to your taste, but there is a problem here. The menu we ordered was taken to another table, so we kept waiting so long. When I told the waiter, he started arguing with the head in the kitchen. When I had to say that I should cancel the food order because of the next schedule, he hurriedly literally threw the food on the table and left. Whose fault it is? It's a shame to give even 1 point. And ruined the good memories of Kyoto.

The noodles seemed almost crunchy/ fall apart. Slight bitter taste. Was underwhelmed by the side dishes. Got the lunch special hot and cold. Sake was not much and not that good. Tried the ice breaker and just taste watered down with the ice. Nothing special and I am sure there are better soba places around.

We had a great experience here. The food was very refined and the soba simple and delicious. We also loved the sake we had. We had a great time and service was very kind.

It was not made clear to us that in the evenings it is a set menu. An english menu was given to us and before we could even order anything food started showing up. We kind of went with it but when it was explained that one of us didnt eat meat it all went pear shaped. In the end we offered to pay for the appetizer that was brought out and a small plate of tempura and cut our losses as all we wanted was some simple soba and tempura. We were charged 40000yen which for what we ate was pretty outrageous. All up pretty dissapointing given the rave reviews.

At first, they have different prices in Japanese and English menu. When we asked them why, they simply answered that it because Japanese people usually take sake…. And so?))) Anyway we had set- 5 different dishes. But hold on! One of it - just a small cup with smth Two of them- just soba. In my opinion it’s definitely not worth your money and time. No vibe, no interior. Just you and your overprice menu.

This place is legit soba. They offer both hot and cold versions. We had the duck, egg and plain. The noodles are refined and do not taste heavy. The broth is great and we finished it all up. The duck was tender and flavorful. We had several appetizers and all were wonderful. The tempura was light and crispy. The tofu with yuba was memorable and a must for a repeat. The tamago omelette was light and skillfully prepared. I’d recommend this and will be a repeat customer in the near future.

I guess a non-gaijin only can judge (perhaps the soba quality is excellent), however for me, the meal was not that tasty, to say the least.

Visiting from NYC. Fantastic easy lunch experience at a family run spot.
