The 19 Best Restaurants in Cairo, Egypt | Eater

"In the working class neighborhood of Rod El Farag, you’ll know Sobhy Kaber by the crowd. The restaurant is ample in size, but don’t be surprised if you find yourself waiting for a table, especially during peak hours, since it attracts a diverse array of Egyptians and food enthusiasts. The extensive menu features dishes such as mombar (sausage casings stuffed with herby spiced rice), the traditional Egyptian staple molokhia (rich green mallow soup), hamam mahshi (fried pigeon stuffed with seasoned rice and gizzards), and a variety of grilled meats. Despite the restaurant’s location in a neighborhood not typically visited by tourists, exuberant staff keep Sobhy Kaber fun and inviting for visitors." - Laila Hassaballa

Even though it’s one of the most famous restaurants in Cairo, it’s not exactly in the heart of the city. But don’t worry, there’s a big parking lot right in front of it. When we got there, they were super friendly and showed us to our table. I was a bit surprised by the decor inside - it wasn’t super fancy, but it was really unique. You could tell they weren’t trying to be too high-end, but they definitely wanted to create a certain vibe. The food came really quickly, and it was actually pretty salty, just like Egyptian food. They tend to put a lot of spices in their dishes, which is why it tastes so authentic. You should definitely eat it with bread to balance out the flavor. It’s a lot of food for a really affordable price, which is no wonder it’s so popular.

If you are looking for actual good Egyptian food, you have to try this place. I’ve been 2 weeks in Egypt, and I struggled to find authentic Egyptian food. Yesterday our tour guide recommended this place to us, and it didn’t disappoint! We are tourists and they were very friendly even though we didn’t speak the language. Everything tasted fantastic and the lamb chops were one of the best one I have eaten. Thank you for making our trip even better with this place.

The food was one of the most delicious foods I have ever tried. Actually the best I tried in Egypt during my 10 days visit. The prices are fair without those hidden extra costs. I suggest it to everyone who wants to have a good food and don’t care about luxus.

Food is not that good , found better taste And as for the place its big and traditional for sure which is i like But for the service it was as minimal as it can 😓 and i was disappointed. The table took soo long time to be cleaned . The Food didnt take long time . The employees there need to be behaved. And there is a fatal mistake which is combining the butcher shop entrance with the restaurant, customers and employees were literally fighting there and we couldn’t even enter there easily. the noise and the fights they made made my first impression . I dont think I would pay it another visit soon. The prices were good compared to the meal size .
