I was very disappointed on the food portion! $7.00 for this tiny taco. first time being there, hardly any cabbage, and I ate this in 2 bites. the guy who took my order, he's nice, but when I asked, is the taco a street taco? he said, was bigger, WRONG! Would of been my choice of not ordering. but I gave benifit of the doubt. I will not go again. California wouldn't never serve such a taco. SHAMEFUL RESTAURANT thank goodness I only got 1, waste of 💰

Google
The food is amazing 👏 the calamari fries were cooked perfectly! The fish was fresh and seasoned very well. Service was a little slow, but when the food is this good 👍🏻 they get busy, and they were. Well worth the wait. We sat outside and even in the heat, the misters did a great job keeping us cool in the evening when the sun was low.

Google
The place was awesome. Iconic design old skate decks on the wall made mixed with beach restaurant decor. Service was awesome, and the server made a great recommendation (burrito with fish AND shrimp), and the food was delicious. Bonus? This claim gets thrown around a lot in the food world, but it was ACTUALLY the biggest burrito I’ve ever been given. Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Gilbert. Go or don’t, but actually just go.

Google
Nothing fishy tasting about this place, everything is fresh and clean tasting! Cod tacos were moist and tender, battered mahi tacos were crisp, and shrimp salad was simple with a flavorful dressing. Menu is full of variety for fun food and drinks for such a small place. Servers were very attentive. We ate inside as it’s still hot outside, although there were several tables with people eating under the misters on the patio outside. Large shared parking lot in back with ample parking and restrooms are nicely decorated and clean. This place will be crazy busy when the weather cools down!

Google
Delicious fish tacos! Grabbed some delicious fish tacos and a kids burrito and it’s amazing! The owner was in and he was so friendly and helpful with my order. I can’t wait to come back and try more tacos and some margs. Outback is definitely a vibe too!

Google
Found this place while looking for a place to take a dinner break. It’s conveniently located in the downtown area of Gilbert and has plenty of parking in back and around the corner. It’s a clean and well kept establishment with a laid back surfer atmosphere and decor. I ordered the Blackened Grouper Tacos and came back for more to try the Beer Battered Mahi Tacos. Both were excellently prepared and very tasty. The grouper was moist and tender while the mahi had a nice crisp battered coating and was also moist and tender inside. There is inside seating, an outside patio and windows for your ordering and pick up facing the street. The service by the waitstaff was fast and friendly. They also have the Taco Tuesday specials with even cheaper prices. If you’re a fan of fish tacos or fish and chips like I am this place is awesome and reasonably priced, plus they also have shrimp and lobster tacos.

The food was delicious, and the service was awesome. Daquan (Quan) was friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was light and casual. It seems like a great place to hang out with a small group. Check out taco Tuesdays and Thursdays. I had the halibut fish N Chips. I do plan to return.

Owners Angie and Pablo are great host to this delicious seafood restaurant! Breaded Shrimp tacos are highly recommended! Cozy outdoor seating with awesome drink selections. (Grape Death Row) Happy Dad is perfect!

Yelp
A true hidden gem! SoCal Taco is hands-down my favorite spot for tacos in town. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and made with care -- you can really taste the difference. Their Taco Tuesday and Taco Thursday specials are the best around -- delicious tacos at an unbeatable price. The service is just as amazing -- Quan always thinks of everything and makes sure you feel welcome and taken care of every single time. Quan, we'll definitely be back to talk through The Sopranos and Breaking Bad! It's one of those places you almost want to keep secret, but they deserve all the love! If you're craving authentic, mouthwatering tacos, do yourself a favor and check out SoCal Taco -- you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
While the fish was decent, the flavors and fry were underwhelming. Thankfully I didn't get any of the poor service others have experienced. The employee was manning the front all by himself. We placed our orders and received everything after 15 minutes. *Clam Chowder: very runny and bland. There was minimal seafood flavor and was prominently milky. My cup barely had any clams and the bits I did get were chopped finely. There were also no vegetables incorporated so this was a pricey cup of cream. *Fish and Chips: the cod fillets were thick and flakey but the beer batter was heavy and greasy. The batter had no flavor and took away from the delicate fish. The oil should be changed given the darker color and bitter aftertaste. The fries were the best part and the only item that was properly seasoned. The coleslaw was standard and I wished the sides were larger in size. The fish had a lot of potential but everything was poorly seasoned. SoCal Fish Taco Company boast of their "dad's award winning" clam chowder but it was some of the worst I've had. I wouldn't come back

Yelp
This downtown Gilbert place is a good choice for fish tacos and burritos. It isn't fancy, but it's hot a good California beach theme. There are surfboards hanging from the ceiling and skateboards on the wall, along with some beach photos. It's was really busy when we came here in Friday evening. There was a wait for outdoor seating, so we grabbed an indoor table so we didn't have to wait. it looked like there were only two servers, but the wait wasn't to long. We ordered: *Fish and chips *Shrimp ceviche tostadas *Mahi Tacos *Blackened grouper taco All were good. The only negative is that in some cases, the prices seemed high--the tostadas were tiny for the price. Strange because the price was great for the fish and chips.

Yelp
Tuesdays are for tacos! My wife and I rolled into this well-established DT Gilbert taqueria hankering for crunchy tacos but settled for soft instead. Wifey got the chicken burrito and was very pleased. I snuck a couple of bites when she wasn't looking. Service was great and the vibe was very SoCal. I only wish there were crunchy tacos! But the price tag was very good on the wallet. We would gladly come back for the burrito, service, and prices.

Yelp
Tonight our group of 8 dined together for my college graduation. Called prior and they accommodated us immediately! Quan was our waiter and I have to say, he was an absolutely amazing server. He was attentive to each guest in our group, and had a kind and uplifting personality. Service seriously makes such a difference when dining out, and I want to shoutout Quan for making a special night even better!!! Also of course the shrimp tacos (my usual) were delicious). The crab cakes were fresh and we tried the street corn and YUM!

Yelp
This place was great! Walked right in on a Saturday and got seated. I have allergies and they were very receptive to that and I had a lot of options. The food was super delicious and I was full after finishing my meal. A refreshing little place in the monotony of AZ restaurants. I will definitely be coming back. Go check them out!

Yelp
This place has been around a while, and I wanted to love it- but it fell short on so many levels. Very small indoor dining area, but plenty of outdoor seating in the back. Immediately greeted by the only server working, and she was great. Very friendly and always checking up on us. It happened to be Taco Tuesday, and they have some pretty good deals ranging from $3, $4 & $8 tacos. We started with the coconut shrimp appetizer & I opted for 2 shrimp & 1 beer battered mahi, my cousin had 2 carne asada and the mahi as well. Coconut Shrimp: Just your classic CS nothing special, fairly bland just "okay"...I guess the sauce made up for it. Tacos: As soon as they hit the table, I knew it wasn't going to be good...I know a good taco when I see one. Tortillas were COLD on all the tacos, the carne itself was also COLD and ZERO flavor. I couldn't believe we were paying for this. My shrimp tacos were better, but again nothing to rave about. Fish tacos were just okay. What went wrong here?! The salsa served with the tacos.. not even joking was absolutely tasteless. I asked for a more spicy salsa, but they don't have any so I was given 2 bottles of hot sauce instead. Not sure what happened but the only thing good here was the service. We wont be back.

Matt F.

Yelp
My daughter went here claiming these were the best tacos ever- so we had to give it a try. The tacos didn't disappoint. Great Carne Asada and Mahi tacos. The highlight was the burrito which was massive. Sauces had a lot of good flavor. Quan and the rest of the employees were very friendly and walked us through the menu as first-timers. Fairly priced and good value - We will definitely be back!

Yelp
Incredibly delicious fish tacos. When I'm wanting fish tacos and some amazing chips this place always hits the spot. The service is good and the place definitely gives off a beach tacos spot just without the salt breeze and cooler weather but worth it when you want something good.

Yelp
This place has been around for a while now and I always say I have to stop by. Well the day finally came and we stopped on Saturday for some dinner! We parked in the back and made our way in through the back door. The server quickly came in running from the outside, walked us over to our table, and she dropped off menus. We ordered: 1 Coke 1 Calamari fries 1 Elote 1 Clam chowder soup - small 2 orders of shrimp tacos The clam chowder soup was delicious and I wish I had gotten the big bowl instead. It had so much flavor and it was served hot. The calamari fries were hot and crispy - so good. The shrimp tacos were delicious and you get two tacos in one order. Kinda pricey though as your paying about $5 per taco. It's accompanied with a red salsa which was not at all spicy. Service was great and fast. Will be back!

Yelp
Have been wanting to try out this place and today I ended up trying it. The food itself was really good. We came to try out the fish and chips, but we got a little bit of everything. We got the fish and chips and we also got chips and salsa. We got a shrimp taco, a cod, taco and a Carne Asada taco . To be fair, everything was really good. I give it a solid 8. The only thing that I did take a bite of and did not finish was the Carne Asada taco. I don't know why, but it had a really weird taste to it and I had to basically spit out in a napkin. The taste was awful. Not sure why Aside from that everything else was really good and the patio was really nice great service ! Would come again

Rachel S.

Yelp
Fish tacos were over fried. Also, some type of sauce for the tacos would be good since the corn tortillas are not fried or grilled, so they're rather dried. Otherwise, things were good. Margaritas were excellent. Prices reasonable. Service was great.

Yelp
We love SoCal taco! We have been going here for a few years and would take family from New Jersey when they visited. We hadn't been for a while but made a visit on the anniversary of my mother in laws death because she was so happy when we brought her here! We celebrated Cher with shrimp tacos, ceviche, coconut shrimp, mahi tacos, a margarita and a glass of Chardonnay. Food was great, outdoor seating was lovely and service was exceptional!
google avatar

Yelp
Although the tacos were tasty the service was below par... Nice looking Athletic men servers who appeared oblivious to diners needs... A women's touch would be helpful here!

Yelp
Happy Hour is 3 - 6 pm. We ordered a bucket of 3 Coors Lights for $10 (Excellent deal). We enjoyed the Blackened Grouper tacos, and coconut shrimp again. This time we ordered the onion rings and creamed filled churros. We arrived early to insure an inside table. Plenty of patio seating is available too. The wait staff are friendly, attentive and quick to clean up. A few more visits and we'll be regulars.

Yelp
Love this spot!! We were wanting a good lunch pick up spot and found SoCal Fish Taco in our search. We picked it up and loved everything we got. They have shrimp tacos, salmon tacos, clam chowder and delicious bowls. It's really a great spot for fresh, good food. We didn't sit and eat but would do so next time. It's in a great spot in Gilbert to walk around too. Can't wait to try it again!!

Yelp
Service is terrible, slow, confusing, understaffed, don't acknowledge you. Had to leave before ordering multiple times due to the above.

Yelp
Fast and friendly service on Taco Tuesday. Loved being outside on this beautiful day but would have preferred street side. Tacos for two: 2 carne asada- small, minimal flavor, 4 battered cod- good but smallish pieces and heavily battered and 1 lobster- substantial delicious chunk of lobster and ok batter. Total: $28. Not sure of price on other days. No draft beers but enjoyed canned beer and hard seltzer. Downtown was hopping already at 6pm. Can't really recommend as first choice but as a back up for tacos on Tuesdays and Thursdays. ~EG Eats

Yelp
The food and service are awesome. The patio is comfortable with the fans and misters.

Yelp
Coming from So Cal, we miss the beach and the vibe. This place only lacks the beach. We've been here about 4 times now. Our only interactions and service have been from the owners and it's been great. Each time we've come we've enjoyed our food and drinks. We've stuck mainly to the Shrimp and Mahi Mahi tacos and calamari sticks and Onion Rings, and our kids enjoy some of the many choices they have, all of which are very good. Our latest experience was still good, but the single server who was working was almost overwhelmed. He was taking care of business with what he had, so I'll give him that, but it was a comment he made that was off-putting. I had the stomach flu for 5 days and hadn't had a drink or been out in over a week, to work included. I wanted to come to this place at happy hour with my family and enjoy it, which we did. We had some good conversations with nearby tables. So I asked if we could get one more margarita as we had about 2 minutes till happy hour ended. He said "OK" and then before he heads inside he says "I better get a good tip!". I get he was flustered with the amount of people coming in, but I've been in the service industry for 37 years, you don't say that kinda thing. Because I work in the industry and he got things very quickly to us, I did tip him a little over 20% and I'll tell you why. I've been there in that type of situation and had people stiff me or complain, when it is the restaurants choice to understaff, not the servers. And maybe he did have that happen to him during all that, so I paid cash and I did get a "thank you" after he collected it and came back out. So this is more a note to him to take it easy, and don't say that kinda thing. Take it from someone who was a serial complainer, and got some good words of advice from a co-worker when I'd gotten stiffed or insulting tips..."Don't let em burn you twice" (As in, don't let it affect your mood and state of mind!)

Yelp
Still loving this cute taco shop, and eat here nearly every weekend! Sangria is refreshing with a kick, tacos are just plain delicious (shrimp, mahi and halibut are my faves), and the beans are the best around. Freshly made salsa to go with freshly made chips make a great appetizer. Great service as always from the owners daughter. Great family restaurant!

Yelp
I used to live in LA & San Diego; so I really like the vibe & ambience of Socal Fish Taco Company. It does remind me of the best seafood places in the LA beach cities ie Santa Monica, Redondo, Hermosa beaches etc. Service was excellent by Manager Bayley(honestly better than alot of southern calif. not always known for service more for great food). I really enjoyed my lobster and grouper tacos perfectly cooked and on my table in under 15 minutes. I also had crabcakes and rank those, the lobster tacos and signature clam chowder best I've had in 2022! Congrats SCFTC and the decor is really cool with authentic 40s wood surf boards. Highly recommended but with a warning that you may want to take a road trip to the west coast afterwards.

Yelp
We ordered four fish tacos, 1 Mahi, 1 Salmon, and 2 cod, with a side order of beans. The flavor of the mahi and cod was pretty good but the toppings were minimal. The salmon had an extra fishy taste and we couldn't finish it. To their credit they removed it from our bill. The side order of beans was in an extremely tiny bowl and I really wouldn't consider it a side. There were no chips and salsa served with the meal which is standard for these types of dishes. For the prices they are charging you should expect far better presentation, larger side portions, and larger main portions. Overall not a place I could recommend.
google avatar

Paul P.

Yelp
Cod fish tacos with rice and beans, also had a cup of clam chowder. Stopped in for a pick up order and was impressed with the taste and flavor of our meal. A piece of fish with every bite. The clam chowder was good as well, we will definitely return for mor fish tacos.

Yelp
A fairly average fish tacos spot in the Heritage district of Gilbert! We stopped in last friday night for dinner. There is a parking lot behind the building, as well as a cute little shaded patio wih TVs where we sat. The service was quick! I ordered a margarita on the rocks - which was good - and the cod taco platter. When they say platter they don't mean.... you get them on a platter with side. You just get two tacos in a basket. A little deceiving. And honestly for the price i expected more. Tacos were average/good though. At least our chips were included.... All in all - low on value for the price, but a quick spot to get your taco fill on.

Yelp
I don't know if we were just hungry when I wrote my last review or if the food has just fallen off but what we had today was terrible. 3 stars for the great service but the food... not so much. We started with an order of coconut shrimp that tasted frozen, greasy and over fried. Hubs ordered the lobster tacos and I had mahi and fries. The fries were the best part of the order and they were meh. I can definitely say that we won't be back.
google avatar

Yelp
This well decorated restaurant has the feel of Southern California. With surf boards and skateboards adorning the walls and hanging from the ceiling, dining here felt like a vacation. And then we tasted the food. The pinto beans were too salty and the Spanish rice was bland. The ceviche tostadas were okay but the portion size was small. They were not nearly as flavorful as the ones we had in Mexico. The calamari sticks were delicious with the flavorful dipping sauce. The fish sticks were okay but nothing to brag about. The carne asada tacos lacked flavor. As cool as the environment is, there is nothing on the menu that would bring me back.
google avatar

Kyle P.

Yelp
Best fish tacos and calamari fries! It's been a family favorite. Everyone that comes in town to stay with us always request to go back to this restaurant you can't go wrong with a double order of calamari, fries and cod tacos with french fries extra crispy. The aïoli that comes with the calamari fries is to die for.
google avatar

Cindy E.

Yelp
Love this small place! Best fish tacos in AZ and to die for Calamari Fries! Had a Caesar salad there as well and it was delicious!

Yelp
Nicely revamped outdoor patio dining area with great misters and fans! Major plus: dog friendly! I ordered the mahi mahi fish tacos, taco was good and I enjoyed the mango slaw as a topping. My mom ordered the fish and chips, battered on fish was thick and wasn't very flavorful.

Yelp
Went to eat twice in last few weeks. Once with friends for lunch, second time with husband for dinner. Choices were great Between us , we've tried fish, shrimp and lobster tacos. All were fresh and tasty. Hubby had fries. I had elote type fritters. Service was friendly and outstanding. Indoor and outdoor seating. Specials on Tuesday and Thursday are great for tasting different choices.
google avatar

Yelp
Legit bar/taco/patio place. My fish and chips was pretty great, prices are amazing. Kelly wasn't a fan of the oyster sandwich, but the atmosphere and service was worth the visit! Highly recommend the fish, but apparently stay away from the frozen oysters!
google avatar

Erin O.

Yelp
The clam chowder bread bowl here was really great. There was lots of nice outdoor seating and servers were friendly.

Yelp
REALLY great customer service. I am glad we gave this place a shot on a busy Saturday evening in downtown Gilbert. While all the other restaurants had extensive waits, SoCal Fish Taco Company allowed us the opportunity to have the entire back patio to ourselves. Even though the restaurant was about to close in the next 30-minutes, the waiter was super accommodating and allowed us to try a few different things that we were curious about and customize our order to be able to do so. The back patio was peaceful with lots of tables, seating, a nice couch for a group, and TV to view games. Food itself was quite yummy. I especially enjoyed my husbands fried scallops, yummm! I would come back here in a heartbeat, especially because all of the staff were so friendly and welcoming!
google avatar

Krista P.

Yelp
We had a great lunch and afternoon! Came in for taco Tuesday. All of their regular tacos were $2 each, buckets of mini beers (6) for $10. Love the patio the most. It's cute and nautical themed. Was the perfect spot to sit and eat with family on a perfect weather day.

Dave S.

Yelp
Excellent laid back place in the heart of downtown Gilbert. We were catching a show at the Hale Center Theater just across the street and looking for something light beforehand. I didn't realize how busy this area gets on a Friday night. Parking is tricky but we found a spot behind the theater. The restaurant was busy but had a few tables open and we opted for a table outside on the patio. The service was quick and attentive, we never ran out of soda. We got the Cod Fish Tacos, Fried Street Corn Cup and Fish and Chips. All the food was good. I thought the fish pieces in the taco were small and the side of rice and beans was a not sufficient at $1.50 each. The Fried Street Corn stood out and reminded me of Jalapeño poppers - just with corn. I think Taco Tuesday is the best time to visit with $2 tacos it's a better deal.

Yelp
I had family in town who were craving fish tacos. I figured, this place has fish taco in the name and good reviews, so why not? This restaurant is located right in the heart of Old Town Gilbert. If you haven't visited this location, there are a ton of restaurants and a decent night life. Parking was pretty easy as there is a massive lot behind the restaurant. I had a party of 9 and was seated immediately. The only two employees I saw were two very disinterested teenagers. The server seemed like he would rather be anywhere but at work and the other girl frequently stood at the entrance chewing her gum and staring off. To make the ambiance even more uncomfortable, the music that was playing overhead sounded like your typical break up sad music. None of this made me excited to be there. The menu is pretty extensive and I got the "award winning" clam chowder and carne asada tacos. The clam chowder had no flavor and way too much flour. My tacos were pretty lack luster but the beans and rice were pretty good, although a little too salty. I didn't finish half of either of my dishes and the server didn't notice nor cared to ask how my table liked the food. With so many other great restaurants along this strip, I would recommend trying something else. I don't think I'll be back.
google avatar

Jon N.

Yelp
I've been here once before a while ago and enjoyed it, this time not so much, they didn't have most of what I wanted to order, the crab cakes were okay. I ordered some fish tacos and they were way over fried, and served on a raw corn tortilla, the whole thing was just weird. The food gives me the impression they are either struggling in general or just struggle with food supplies. The price just didn't reflect what I ended up with.
google avatar

Malik J.

Yelp
Received my food pretty fast. Presentation was just as good as the food, and the staff were very friendly!

Nick F.

Yelp
Good food. Terrible wait times. Do not come Hungry because the portion sizes are small. Going to get more food elsewhere

Yelp
We stopped in here for a quick dinner after a busy day and we were so glad that we did. We recently moved to Gilbert and have been trying out as many new spots as we can. This one definitely earned a spot in the regular rotation. We sat on the patio because it was a gorgeous evening. The atmosphere was perfect, the staff were friendly and pretty on it, and the food was delicious. Our almost one year old was a big fan of the tacos and the rice! I am definitely looking forward to our next meal here. Pros: *Great patio *Yummy food *Friendly staff *Awesome atmosphere Cons: *Can't think of any at the moment ;)

Yelp
This has become a favorite place of ours. We love the clam chowder! My hubby had shrimp and chips and loved every bite. I usually get tacos, but decided to venture out and try a shrimp bowl. The lime shrimp was so good! The only down side was some of the rice was not cooked. It was hard. I'm not sure how that even happens before some was fully cooked. Other than that, it's a top notch place for lunch or dinner!

Yelp
melted styrofoam into fried items ..a health concern.."put a piece of deli foil" in styrofoam container 1st

Joel B.

Yelp
The food was delicious. The servers were attentive. Zalina, our waitress, did a great job. But this good experience came crashing down when in the middle of our meal we started hearing someone yelling and cussing at another person in the kitchen. I learned later that the OWNER was yelling at one of his employees! Sir, you ruined it for us: 1) Nobody likes yelling and cussing as the background "music" for dinner. 2) I don't want my two young children who were with me at the time listening to the words that were coming out of your mouth, much less the tone with which they were spoken. We would like to support this business moving forward, but struggling with whether or not we should support a business owner who treats his employees like a door mat.

Yelp
Stopped in after a few happy hour drinks at culinary dropout just up the street (best happy hour atmosphere and prices - $4 draft craft & $5 Sangria just to start) but I digress..... Walked in on Friday evening and instantly seated and provided with drinks. Decided upon the blackened grouper tacos and a single lobster taco. Wife got lobster tacos and a single carne Asada taco. All were very good but I can't give t 5 stars due to price for the much smaller street tacos than I'm used to. Taste and flavor were good (not wrote hone quality) but decent for a short order style place. I must admit you can get way bigger and better for the price at a another mexican place in my reviews but for this purpose it was good. Service was outstanding / Mario (Pictured below) was a pleasant conversation and had lots of good suggestions about fish and lobster and oysters in Maine and Boston areas we have not yet been to. This is the kind of service that endears you to a place where even though the food might be slightly above average but the conversation and interaction is well above excellent! Way to go Mario! So if your in downtown Gilbert and want a lower key good taco joint - this is it! And say hi to Mario for us!

Martin P.

Yelp
Great place to eat service was great and the food was awesome. Had the fish and chips very good.

Yelp
Hey everyone! This place we randomly found last night. Babe asked me to come with him to get his hair cut after work I said yes! Afterwards we decided to eat out tonight. He was like "let's go to downtown Gilbert" I'm like " okay" so we came across this place on Yelp. Anything seafood and I'm there. We walked in, it was a relatively small restaurant but the outside seating is nice and essentially bigger than the actual restaurant. We started off with two appetizers and than had the mahi tacos. I ate so much I'm so embarrassed but it was SOO GOOD. The mahi tacos were very good. Everything was good. Will definitely be back again! - The Tough Chicago Critic *I gave So Cal Fish Tacos 4 stars because the service was just a little slow but the food was not cold so maybe it was the chef in the back.

Yelp
I'll start by saying we had great service. Our waitress was so polite and friendly, and timely with her check-backs. +1 star for the cute, surfer vibes atmosphere. Very "hole in the wall fish joint" like the local eats in SoCal. However, the food is NOT anything like the food I grew up on in Cali. I wanted to like this spot because it is small and local but the food was such a let down-- we left hungry afterwards. We ordered the shrimp ceviche tostadas which were small, soggy, and lacked flavor other than onion. And the fish & chips where the fish batter was also really soggy. We ordered the cup of fried street corn which had good flavor, but the portions of this place almost felt insulting. Everything came out in almost kids menu portions? Overall I would not recommend as the price to portion value was the biggest disappointment. The food for me was BLAND and subpar at best. This place had high reviews so I'm still not convinced we even ended up at the right location?? We will likely stick to other seafood spots in the Valley.
