Well, I am disappointed in Social Eats right now, and I hope my experience today was an aberration. A slice of avocado toast and an "ultimate vegan breakfast sandwich" took over an hour to assemble and the sandwich was way overpriced for what I received. They didn't have croissants so I had it on a slice of wheat bread, and it came with the faintest whisper of avocado, a slender slice of tofu, and a vegan sausage patty on each half. Half the lettuce in the side salad was dark and slimy. This came as a shock after a couple of great experiences there. By the time the food arrived, the large coffees we had were long gone and it would have taken too long to get fresh ones.
I have to give the staff credit - they were so polite and cheerful, even though they had to carry every last one of those oversized trays up and down a flight of stairs. I'd had no idea the kitchen was in the basement. The trays the servers carry are enormous, so I know they can't see their own feet or the stairs they are traversing. I hope the owner installs a couple of dumbwaiters because this seems like, at best, an exhausting set-up, and at worst a potential for disaster. The girls repeatedly had to set down the trays on the counter when they came up to rest their arms and catch their breath before they delivered the food to the tables.
I would say the place is still worth a try, I just really hope they didn't start with a bang only to start cutting corners that whittle away at the customer's experience.
