Had been excited to try out this neat bar/restaurant for months. Stopped in about 3:40 yesterday after a long drive back from Nashville. Had read so many great reviews about the food and service, but it fell very flat. First.. it's got a cool mixed old school diner, w/ modern twist vibe. It's two stories, each with a long bar, tables and booths. Seat yourself. We opted for the second level. Was almost empty. Took the server about 10 minutes to look for a canned red ale, as all the droughts were out? He finally returned and hubby opted for a yeungling, and I had a cocktail. We ordered the BOGO appetizers ( happy hour 4-7) Fig and Pig flat bread, and the Philly cheese steak egg rolls. The menu descriptions compared to what was served.. very disappointing. The flat bread was more of a round of pita bread, spread with a fig/apricot preserves , lots of arugula, small chunk s of apple or pear, and a few spars crumbles of over cooked prosciutto topped with shaved Parmesan. The flat bread had no flavor and was burnt. Not sure about the pig or fig.. no where to be found?
As for the philly cheese steak egg rolls..they were ok, but have had better. They tasted like they were frozen. The sauce was a very bland queso.. and not impressive. It too was equivalent to grocery store and served in a small plastic ramikin.
Going back to service. There was only one other table, came in 10 mins. After us. And a group of 4 @ the bar. However service and attitude of the service staff was less than stellar. Were treated as an inconvenience.. felt like b/c we were not regulars.. we were not welcome. We felt as though the bartender was too busy having fun w/ tasting wine w/ the group of 4 @ the bar to be bothered by us. Whoever was in the table behind us finally got up and told the bartender to come to our table. Had that not happened.. we were very close to closing our tab after the first round and not ordering food. They were not short staffed. I saw no less than 7 different employees coming up and downstairs, around the bar.. two employees sitting doing their side work.. and others going in and out of stock rooms and or security office. As I said.. I was hoping to try this cool looking menu, unfortunately I am not sure they are being 100% genuine in their descriptions and actual products.
I hope this was just an off day, near shift changes. Nothing worse than anticipating trying a great place.. being very hungry cause you haven't eaten all day to be soo disappointed. The service industry is tough.. even more so in the current times.. I am all for being understanding.. but prefer to frequent establishments that are happy to have customers are friendly and welcoming.
Oh one last thing.. my husband went to the unisex bathroom as we arrived ( 1st floor) door wouldn't lock and he accidentally walked in on some poor woman. Once we were seated upstairs.. he informed the server of this incident and they need to fix the lock/door in downstairs bathroom.. he could not care less, or obviously had no idea what to do. B/c it's not his responsibility? Not ok.
