The 15 Best Mediterranean Restaurants in Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"In a sea of Center City drab, this French-Moroccan cafe is a  charming life raft. If you like lamb, come for dinner Thursday through Saturday, when Sofi serves a three-course tasting menu that features the best lamb shank tagine in town (don’t forget to BYOB). But during all-day brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, you’ll find people eating massive slices of quiche lorraine and moist walnut and date cake, and sipping on mint tea out of an engraved silver teapot. It’s all delicious—the gyrating belly dancers are just a bonus." - alison kessler, candis mclean

"Dive into a warm and gooey croque madame at one of the mosaic-tiled tables, or head to the charming patio out back. Either choice is a win at this French-Moroccan hideaway. During all-day brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, this comfortable Wash West spot has people eating massive slices of quiche lorraine and sipping on mint tea out of an engraved silver teapot a genie would kill for. The incredibly tender lamb tagine and moist date and walnut cake make brunch at the BYOB worth going out of your way for—the gyrating bellydancers are just a bonus. " - alison kessler, candis mclean

Sofi Corner Cafe - Review - Washington Square West - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"In a sea of condo buildings, parking lots, and Walgreens with more locks than a high school hallway, Sofi Corner is a life raft. The tiny but comfortable French-Moroccan Wash West restaurant has yellow velvet booths and mosaic-tiled tables, and a charming patio out back. During all-day brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, people eat massive slices of quiche lorraine and sip mint tea out of an engraved silver teapot a genie would kill for, and it’s entirely possible you’ll see a belly dancer gyrating amongst the tables. If you like lamb, come for dinner Thursday through Saturday, when Sofi Corner serves a $75, three-course tasting menu that features the best lamb shank tagine in town. Don’t forget to BYOB, and you'll be on you're way to feeling like you're somewhere without a neighboring Jimmy John’s. photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi photo credit: Gab Bonghi Food Rundown photo credit: Gab Bonghi Croque Madame A stack of buttery toast, warm ham, and rich mornay sauce topped with melted gruyere and a warm egg with a jiggly middle. It’s absolutely delicious. Moroccan Salad This is a great starter if you’re going for one of the meatier mains. The dish combines crisp cucumbers, tomatoes, and smoky grilled peppers with zaalouk, a garlicky eggplant salad that’s more like a dip. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Lamb Shank Tagine You’ll smell this platter before it gets to your table. The lamb is fall-off-the-bone tender and fragrant from garlic, ginger, cumin, and cloves. It all comes with saucy, fluffy couscous. Order it. photo credit: Gab Bonghi Date & Walnut Cake All of the pastries here are lovely, especially this moist, cinnamon-spiced cake dotted with chunks of walnuts and sweet dates. It’s perfect with mint tea." - Alison B. Kessler

The pictures shared truly capture the essence. A delightful break from the routine workday, slipping away to this cozy spot for a midday escape. A thoroughly enjoyable experience for both the mood and the taste buds. Traditional, savory Moroccan eggs sided with baguette cuts and a light mix of greens. Enhance the experience with a spinach feta croissant and a latte to complete the meal. The staff are attentive and friendly, and glad to guide selections.

I honestly didn’t find this place as special at this price point. The food was decent but I paid extra for a gluten free bread which they forgot to give me initially and had to switch out but when I got it it was hard as a rock and inedible. The coffee was also lukewarm/cold. The atmosphere is cozy but a little small. Overall nice spot but not sure I’d come back.

Finally went to Sofi Corner after years of being on my to go list, and boy did it not disappoint! The staff were patient, kind and friendly. The food was delicious and was prepared perfectly. The cafe is so beautiful and feels refreshing and bright. I especially loved the shakshouka and would say it’s probably the most authentic one I’ve had in Philly. The flavors were very spot on and hit every note. Can’t wait to come back again to try their tagine and couscous!

Best.croissants.ever. They sre freshly baked, perfectly flaky and crispy and soft. The ham, egg on a croissant is a must. When you come in, you should order and pay at the counter then proceed to the other side for seating. The seating is somewhat limited (indoor and outdoor) but it overlooks a beautiful garden with hummingbirds, butterflies, and if you are lucky, sunshine.

Amazing food and great ambiance! We had the lamb shank that’s so tasty and tender that falls right off the bone. Highly recommend! And the owner Sofi is the best Moroccan chef in town 💖

This place is very cute. Great place for morning date. We had the croque madame and it was SOO good; bechamel was tasty and everything was hot which is love. The chocolate croissant was 100/10. Coffee was also delicious. Unfortunately, I was disappointed by the Moroccan eggs because the tomato in the sauce lacked in depth of flavor. It literally tasted like it was canned. I am looking forward to having other things but hope things improve!

After seeing this beautiful space on TikTok, I was so excited to give it a try, so I hate to give three stars but I can’t give it more than that. Here’s my reasoning: The quiche and side salad were pretty good actually, but the tiered desserts were absolutely all wrong (which was the biggest reason we wanted to come here). We were told by the waitress that the cake squares were just taken out of the freezer so that they needed to thaw before we ate them. What’s maybe worse is that I still would have known they were frozen premade costco tasting cakes if she didn’t say a word. Also the big slice of cake on the bottom shelf was SO dry it just crumbled apart and was flavorless. Last comment, it also felt like nobody knew how to run the place? There was no explanation of how anything worked and it was partially self service?? Just strange vibes but in a beautiful space.

LOVE THIS PLACE!!! I went here for lunch with my mom and it was the cutest spot! I got the Moroccan eggs, she got the Nutella crepe with strawberries, and we both had the Moroccan mint tea…everything was perfect. The dining area is adorable as well. We went on a Tuesday around noon and were able to get a seat right away, but there probably will be a wait on busier days since there’s limited seating.
