"Like Davio’s and Prima, Sofia strikes a successful balance between Italian pasta shop and steakhouse. At the West Roxbury mainstay, find braised short rib pappardelle and shrimp and scallop scampi alongside double-cut lamb chops, prime ribs, and a relatively affordable wine bottle selection." - Erika Adams, Terrence Doyle

Food was delicious! Didn't have to wait long for it, which is awesome! I ordered mussels and then salmon. Loved it. Drinks are good also. I assume everyone was able to park. We came right after opening at 4:30, so we had no problem to park. I also went to look what's on a second floor. It's a bar and open deck with tables for a summer time !

We were there to celebrate a big birthday. We are a foodie family, and are very discerning when it comes to eating out. We had drinks, appetizers, our entrees and shared a dessert. The food was really GREAT. Frankie was our waiter and Michael the manager came over to check in on us. It’s definitely a great option for a night out. We will be back!

Norma Lee

Google
Everything was perfect. Great food, employees were kind, patient, and courteous. The restaurant also had a lovely ambiance. All just the way we liked it!

This is my first and last time to go to Sophia’s because they are closing down next week. Food was amazing. I go to the sister restaurant in Stoughton. Amelia’s always great at both places. This service was unbelievable and I wish I went sooner.

My boyfriend and I come here often and are always impressed with the delicious food and superb service. Sofia never disappoints! Better than many North End restaurants.

Google
Diamond in the rough!! If you are looking for a reasonably priced steakhouse with exceptional service and high quality food... look no further!! The atmosphere is elegant, sophisticated and clean without being stuffy. The service was friendly, attentive, and reliable. My sons had the steak frittes and lamb chops...I sampled both and they were divine. I had fresh pasta with bolognese and it was perfection. And then the deserts! We had the Tiramisu, Chocolate Molten Lava Cake and the Cheesecake...each was heaven. I would say this is one of my favorite places to eat...period.

We are devastated to hear that Sophia’s are closing . The whole team have always made us feel so welcome. Once the new owners take over will give it a try. We will miss Kelly’s smile on arrival and Chris our server has looked after us like family for a long time now. This is the place I proposed to my fiancée and we had intended to bring my family in to show them where it all began when they visit from England.

I literally was blown away by the interior of the Steakhouse..all I can say is Classy, Classy, Classy. Fellas this would definitely impress your first date, or girlfriend/wife. I felt that I received great customer service my waiter was excellent and if I had a question Jamie made sure he got an answer for me. The food was excellent, well cooked and the presentation on the plate was very inciting and I couldn't wait to dive in. 10 out of 10 for a nice local, upscale Steakhouse outside the city. I'm definitely going back soon. Enjoy!!

Yelp
First, the atmosphere is upper class. I must say that the food is tasty, but there wasn't a lot in each portion and thus I feel they are overpriced. The waitstaff are totally professional and friendly, but I just didn't get the value for the price. Sorry, but that is how I feel and I will not be going back.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I come here often and last night our meal was so incredible, I am compelled to give a shout out to Sofia on Yelp. Everything about this restaurant is exceptional. I would give Sofia more than 5 stars for food, ambiance and service if that was possible. Last night, we ordered the Philly Cheesesteak Rolls to share as an appetizer, we each ordered the Roasted Beet Salad, he ordered the Brandt Beef 20-ounce Aged Delmonico with Gorgonzola wine sauce on the side and I ordered the Prime Rib. We each got sides of mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts with bacon and apples. We shared the Vanilla Bean Crème Brûlée for with fresh berries for dessert. My boyfriend, who loves steak, said this was the best steak he has ever had in his life. The service is also superb. Every time we have come here, we have been impressed by how attentive our servers are. Our server last night was very patient helping me pick out the most tender steak from the menu and asking the kitchen for their recommendation. The ambiance is sophisticated and upscale with a relaxed and classy vibe. This place is usually packed, but even when they are busy, it doesn't feel crowded because there is enough space between tables/booths so that each party has their privacy. Yes, Sofia is expensive, but I do not feel it is overpriced for what you get and it's actually a bit more affordable and has better food than many places in the North End. Considering the value you get for the full experience of dining here, every dollar is well spent. Between the two of us, we spent a total of $219 before tip which included two non-alcoholic beverages, one appetizer, two salads, two entrees, two side dishes per person, one dessert, and two herbal teas. The portions are large and we had plenty of leftovers to take home. Sofia is hands down one of my favorite restaurants in Boston and the surrounding area. Coming here is always a memorable experience.

Yelp
Drinks -4/5 Service -4/5 Ambiance - 3/5 Brought moms here for a B day dinner, as she has been wanting to try this location. Made my reservation online ( I believe they use Resy) I ordered the alfredo with chicken and broccoli and they let me change the pasta. I watches my nephew dump a ton of table salt and pepper on after his 1st bite so that was not a good sign. My date and sister ordered the short rib pasta which must have been presented wrong because they were both slightly shocked when their plate came but didn't want to say anything. Their meals were lukewarm and just lacking seasoning. Can't go wrong with the Cesar salad and their cocktails. I rated the ambiance low because of the floors I was sitting at table for 8 and on my walk to the bathroom my feet were sticking to the floor like a candy store that's never mopped. Stop using dirty mops. a switer goes a long way HAPPY DRINKING!!!

Yelp
Wow that last time we tried Sofia's was over 11 years ago, the food was good then and even better now. We ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer, for entrees we ordered the same dish, the Short Rib Pappardelle except here swapped his pappardelle pasta out for spaghetti instead and I requested no scallions on mine. And for our child she had the kids chicken fingers and fries. Everything was delicious Bruschetta 10/10 chefs kiss The short rib with spaghetti 10/10 Chicken fingers and fries: my daughter didn't care to much for it because the fries were truffled which wasn't described on the menu, she hates anything with truffle oil however we liked it a-lot lol ..... I give it 8/10 only because the menu should have specified that the fries were truffled cause we would have job just for regular fries for our picky toddler. My dish: Short Rib Pappardelle with no scallions. My dish came out with extra scallions on top originally, our waitress immediately took it back and brought me back a new dish (from what I thought) however when I began to eat I can taste the scallions so I looked in the dish and found several pieces of scallions still inside of the dish which made me realize that they never gave me a new dish all the did was remove the visible scallions from the dish. Because of this I give it a 7/10. I believe if a customer ask for something not to be added to their dish, it should be removed completely. My expresso martini, which 10/10 it was so rich, smooth and delicious. Despite of my plate, I would definitely return to Sofia's the food was delicious overall very good.

Yelp
Our first time, For a 40th wedding anniversary dinner, based on rave reviews from family. Exceeded our high expectations. Food was outstanding! Cooked to perfection! Service was excellent! We will be trying Amelia's in Stoughton based on this fine dining experience!

Yelp
Highly recommend Sifia, great food and friendly staff and Cozy .Our server Chris was real nice and patient. (He served five Ladies with a smile all the way thru!! I have been going n to Sofia to celebrate our birthday parties. Great place.

Yelp
I came here with my husband and mom for dinner on a Monday night at 7pm. We walked in with no reservation and were seated immediately. We have been here a few times before. We have sat upstairs where it is very bright and this time on the main floor where it is more dim and more like a steakhouse. I ordered a Shirley temple and my mom wanted hot water. They did not have ginger ale so I asked for sprite with my Shirley temple instead. To start, we ordered the mussels. Then for entrees we ordered the statler chicken, 8 oz filet (med well), and 10 oz med rare with a side of brussel sprouts. The mussels were cooked well. The broth was light. I wish it had a stronger taste of garlic and tomato. My mom enjoyed her 8 oz med well steak. My husband loved his 10 oz filet med rare. The red wine demi was phenomenal. Both steaks were cooked to the right temp. My chicken sadly was dry. I should have sent it back but I didn't want to make a fuss and ate it. The cognac cranberry demi glace was flavorful. The risotto was delicious as well. The portion of the risotto was massive. The brussel sprouts were quite crispy, maybe too crispy. They were almost burnt. There were soft bacon bites and sour uncooked apple was good. I wish there was some sauce on the brussel sprouts. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner. As we have been here a few times, the food is usually a hit, rather than a miss. Our server was nice and attentive.

Yelp
Such a great find! We were a little early, so we found seats at the bar. I ordered my new favorite...Downeast Cider. We were seated on time and the rest of our party arrived shortly after. The service was great. The food came out fast. I think that best dish was the short rib pappardelle, with the salmon coming in second. The Chocolate Molten Lava cake was a hit with everyone! I finished the meal with my standard Bailey's & Coffee.

Yelp
Went to Sofia's for the first time on New Year's Eve and will definitely be back. We had a 7 pm reservation and were sat at 7. The waitress was very attentive even though the place was packed she answered all our questions patiently. The food was amazing! The steaks were perfectly cooked buttery soft, the sides were big and tasty, and let's not forget the yummy warm bread with garlic butter. The desserts also did not disappoint.

Yelp
We had a wonder dinner at Sophia during a recent trip to the Boston area. Sophia is an upscale restaurant that caters to locals. The interior feels like it should be in downtown Boston with rich wood and leather. The servers are attentive and knowledgeable. The food is delicious! Sophia offers an interesting cocktail menu. I had the Flirtini, which was composed of raspberry vodka, grand marnier, chambord, cranberry juice, pineapple juice and Prosecco. It was huge and lasted me throughout the meal. My friend got the cucumber martini, and liked it as well. Another in our party had the Witching Hour red blend wine, which had a nice body to it. For appetizers, we started with the arugula salad that comes with cranberries, figs, spiced pecans, and goat cheese. It was large enough to share between two people. We also had the caesar salad, which you can split between two plates as well. Our entrees were the Pan Seared Halibut with a leek, bacon & pea risotto - topped with beurre blanc sauce, the chicken piccata with spaghetti, the Short Rib Pappardelle, and the Queen cut prime rib. All were large delicious portions. Because the portions were so large, we declined dessert, though many passed by our table and were very tempting. We dined in a u-shaped booth, which was fun and helped everyone share in the conversation. I recommend Sophia!

Yelp
Enjoyed a very special Birthday dinner for my wife and kids Sofia never disappoints my Family

Chris M.

Yelp
Sofia's have outstanding staff and that is always the difference between good and great. I have visited many times. Romantic meals for us as a couple of groups when my family visit. I love the place.

Claudia A.

Yelp
The food was amazing from the appetizer to the free bread and entrée. The drinks were strong and definitely worth the money. The waitress was so nice and didn't forget any order. We didn't get to make it to dessert but the choice on the menu looked great. A little pricey but overall good time!

Noel L.

Yelp
I just spent my birthday here at Sofia with my family and friends and all of us were so happy of our orders specially my Delmonico steak! A bit expensive but worth for my birthday. Thanks

Scott O.

Yelp
I've wanted to come here for a long time. Sophia's has a beautiful facade and is just as nice on the inside. It's a smaller menu but that is usually better, and it was. We had all the basics but that is how I like to judge a restaurant. I have chicken broccoli Alfredo. One person had spaghetti and meatballs and one of us had mussels for dinner. All fantastic. Service was so attentive and never left us waiting. We had a bottle of wine so I can't comment on the bar. We will plan to return. The prices are a little high, but we were not disappointed.

Sidney H.

Yelp
Best restaurant ever, my family and i will miss you. Egg plant rolitini will haunt my dreams, and ill wake up drooling. Best corn risotto ever. I love this restaurant and will forever crave it even after its gone.

My O.

Yelp
I've always been a fan, however most recent encounter was more than slightly disappointing. They have change the menu to the majority of items being à la cart not a lot of options for sides. The value and quality seem to be slipping.. was with a party of 3/6 of the meals were sent back. Food did not arrive at the same time. One patrons got the wrong order in rather than corrected the wait said it was correct!!

India Z.

Yelp
Had a great time! Loved the steak. Our server Caesar was so great! Wish this location wasn't closing

Larry B.

Yelp
It's OK. Everything here is OK, just not great or special. When we last ate there I got the distinct impression the kitchen and staff have lost the excitement they had when the place first opened. Cooking and serving the same menu year after year has ground them down. It's a shame, really, we enjoyed dining there the first two or three years after they opened. I can almost sense the melancholy wafting thru the air as I frequently drive past their location on old UPDATE! - They will be closing in the near future to be rebranded and reformatted.

Peg A.

Yelp
Had a wonderful dinner at Sofia's tonight. we started with salads and drinks, Caesar salad for my husband, the baby arugula for me. Both were larger than we'd expected and delicious. I had a key lime pie martini that was rimmed with graham cracker crumbs, excellent. For entrees, my husband had the honey salmon with fingerling potatoes, perfectly cooked. I had the steak frites, again cooked to perfection. Although we were more than full, we shared a molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. Totally decadent. Our server was excellent, very attentive and pleasant. we will miss Sofia's!

Jeanne B.

Yelp
meatballs were GREAT! Service was beyond awful. Here is the video proof! This restaurant has s prominent location. I am from CT and thought I would give it a try. So disappointing.

Kelly C.

Yelp
I love going to Sofias... the food is always top-notch done perfectly The atmosphere is relaxed and you can have a good conversation

Donald L.

Yelp
My husband and I had a wonderful meal ( Filet Mignon and Seafood Fra Diavolo) served to us by our friendly and attentive table attendant Tammi. We didn't feel rushed and wverything was delivered in a timely manner. We will definitely dine at Sofia's again and would recommend Sofia's to anyone who wants a great dining experienc.

Yelp
When I reviewed Siphia in 2018, I gave it a well deserved 5*s. I'm sad to say that the place has really deteriorated and is nowhere near worth the $350 we spend on dinner for 4 with one bottle of so-so wine. I my last review, I raved about the Grilled Veal Chip. Sadly, it is no longer on the menu. My next choice would have been Prime Rib, but they only have that on weekends. Service was spotty. We had to struggle to get enough silverware. There was no salt on the table and it took a while to get some. Three of the four diners felt the salt was needed. I started out with Calamari. It was coated in sauce that was so sickeningly sweet that I could hardly eat it. Bread was good, but not extraordinary. It was served with two dishes, one with some sort of spread, the other with olive oil. Given there were no spoons at out place settings, nor with the olive oil, there was no way to access the olive oil. The crispy brussels sprouts with bacon & apples were not that crispy. There was almost no bacon to be found. Needed more seasoning. 3*s My wife had a shrimp dish with scallops. The shrimp were under cooked and the whole dish lacked seasoning. 2.5*s I ordered the lamb chops cooked medium. They might have been 5*, but they were served medium rare. For that I give them 4*s. Chops came with potatoes and baby arugula. The potatoes were 5*, but the arugula was drenched in vinegar, so all I could taste was the vinegar. 1* for the arugula. Had a bottle of Adelsheim Willamette V. Pinot Noir. unremarkable and certainly not worth $55. Had Tira Mi Su for dessert. Large portion, good flavor, 4*s. The waiter was friendly, but obviously inexperienced. Service was certainly not commensurate with the price of the food. The final indignity was a miscellaneous "Service Charge" tacked onto the final bill. I questioned the waiter about the charge and he made some reference to it going to the kitchen staff. I will downgrade any restaurant that does this and I made it clear that the tip covers ALL service and the extra charge was subtracted from what the tip would have otherwise have been. I doubt that I will ever return to this restaurant. There are so many better places where you can get a lot better return on money spent.

Gabrielle Z.

Yelp
Loved our experience here. Our table was in front of the fire place and it was so lovely!! Service was attentive. The Prime Rib was fantastic! In terms of pasta, the Pumpkin Ravioli pasta was delicious. Highly recommend ordering the Mac N Cheese from the Small Plates menu as an appetizer. When it comes to dessert, the molten cake is a must! It's really best for two, so we ordered two for our table of 5, which was perfect. Great end to the night!

Alexis H.

Yelp
The food was amazing the lollipop lamb chops! Were to die for ! The reason I am giving it a 4 is because of the Arancini had loads of cheese on top but barely any on the inside. The chicken broccoli Alfredo was also amazing ! Definitely would come back!

Dave V.

Yelp
Very nice place. Really enjoyed the prime rib. You just have to get there early enough. Been here several times and have not been disappointed. Service is awesome.

Jen M.

Yelp
We ate here for Thanksgiving dinner. It was delicious! The food was great and the service was even better. I will definitely return. I cannot wait to try their steak!

Paul P.

Yelp
3.75 - 4 is about right Firstly. I like this restaurant But, if you see Italian Steakhouse in the name and you're thinking you're going to a cross between Delmonicos and Mama Leone's, you'd be mistaken The ambiance and food are more like a cross between Sizzler and your neighborhood Italian pizzeria Steak was good - Italian sauces were good. Gnocchi was the best thing on the menu - molten lava cake was very good and homemade Bread (while correctly served warm) was not great and had too much "Molica" ( that's Italian slang for the soft white part of the bread that's best used for molding into small pellets and launching at your cousins around the table) Chicken saltimbocca was tasty but not delicate at all Service was fair (not exceptional) but staff was friendly Overall a decent meal

Brent B.

Yelp
Excellent time, incredible did, drinks and service! Highly recommended. Old school Steak House feel. We will be back

Carita H.

Yelp
I always saw my friends post about this place so I decided to try it for myself. I enjoyed the environment and bringing my friends to experience the place together. The food was kind of mediocre sadly, but the calamari is pretty good! My scallops were very blan and the risotto did not taste like risotto it was just rice with corn. The sangria was not sangria lol it was straight up wine with ice. The pop culture music did not fit the vibe. Although, I did love the songs haha. My waitress was nice but she kept coming back and asking questions while we were having our conversations. I understand you're doing your job and you're doing great! There just wasn't a need to come back so often every ten minutes to ask us. Overall, 7/10

Marilyn H.

Yelp
We celebrated our daughter's birthday with the gang of 9. One of us was in a high chair, a couple of us were in high school and the rest of us are young-ish and old-ish. Everyone had different tastes - chicken fingers to a steak the size of Texas. Food was beautifully prepared and delicious. Our sever was terrific and the restaurant is comfortable and a lovely place to celebrate family and friends regardless of the occasion. Nice!

Daniel L.

Yelp
Food was unbelievable! Service was top notch and especially Tammie, she literally made our night!!!

Corynne R.

Yelp
The food was delicious! Service was great. The atmosphere was perfect for a romantic date night. A bit pricy, but that's expected for a steak house!

William B.

Yelp
This was my second visit to Sophia. The first was so good I had to repeat. The first was for Steaks which were delicious and cooked to perfection. This trip we concentrated on Italian. Also oysters which were fresh and delicious. The Italian dishes especially the bolognese was one of the best I ever had. Also the scallop and shrimp scampi was on point. Sophia is a warm and inviting upscale interior with great service, great bar, and super well prepared menu; all at a real value. I will be back yet again

Somaly K.

Yelp
Sofias is such an underrated restaurant which is probably why they continue to be great. I've been a few times and it's never a miss, all their dishes are yummy. Service is always quick - no complaints. After COVID they stopped doing valet so sometimes on busy nights, there's no parking in the main lot so you'd have to park next door at their very few designated spots (says Sofia on the pavement).

Angela K.

Yelp
I went on Valentine's Day. Food was amazing as always but our waitress Diane is what really made our night so special. She was probably the best server I have ever experienced in my life. She was so busy but she never left us unattended for too long. When we needed her, she was right there. With the restaurant closing, I would love to know where she will go next so I can follow her, she was THAT good! Thanks, Diane and good luck in your future!

Dave M.

Yelp
Always great atmosphere and food and drinks are always off the chart!! Service is always on point too We love Sofia's

Arlington R.

Yelp
Everything was cold, oily and soggy. The short rib pappardelle actually tasted like chef boyardee. We paid $50 for an 8oz filet and the meat was cold, the butter not even melted. They did not follow reservation directions either. What a shame, we came here a few months ago and the food was excellent then. Comfortable atmosphere and a fun night but the food just isn't very good and the service subpar.

Rosa L.

Yelp
This place was delicious and elegant. Clean and conveniently located near VFW parkway and Spring street in West Roxbury. Plenty of free parking in their private lot.

Donna W.

Yelp
Great food atmosphere and service Food cooked to perfection, wine selection was complimentary to food Servicer was professional and friendly Atmosphere was romantic

Mark G.

Yelp
Here for a birthday dinner. It is a 15 minute walk from our daughters house. Upon entering there is a bar and dining room off to the right. Three cheerful hostesses were at the ready. Ambiance is dark, wood paneling. We were taken to the second floor which had about six booths and tables outside. There is also a smaller bar in covered area. It was much brighter and there were flowers everywhere. Our booth was shaded and comfortable and the parapet wall rose above eye level so the sky was all you could see. It was about 74F pleasant and sunny at 615pm. Our server arrived and we ordered some drinks. Each of us got a type of martini. They were well prepared. The menus were varied and just about anything could be ordered. As it touts itself as a steakhouse we probably should have got steak but we just had that the day before so we went with halibut which was served over nice risotto, veal chops which were quite large and a prime rib and seafood langoustine. The food was all very good and many leftovers were brought home. My son in law particularly liked the Gorgonzola mashed potatoes he got with his prime rib. Service was lumpy and uncoordinated. Our appetizers were brought out in bits and pieces - my shrimp was served 20 minutes before the my wife's cooked oysters. An eggplant rollatini appeared a few minutes later. There needs to be better coordination between the line cook and serving staff. We had a bottle of Sonoma Cutrer Chardonnay which was great. Had to ask for a wine bucket. Total was ~$450 with tip. We say food "a", service "c", ambiance "b", value "b". We will return when in town. Mark & Nancy.

Massielle P.

Yelp
Amazing food and ambiance. I would recommend doing reservation and also keep an eye on parking as there are not too many space.

John L.

Yelp
Our waiter, Chris was amazing! Always made sure we had everything that we needed and was very friendly! We will be returning again soon.

Norman S.

Yelp
Food and service were excellent. Nice ambiance. Would definitely recommend. Great for business meetings as well.

Judy M.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant, excellent servers (particularly Tammi and Aroldo were so attentive). Diverse menu, food was decent, not excellent for the price.

Alex N.

Yelp
Great place, had the steak and no complaints. My picky eater wife gave it a m5 star also

Dean W.

Yelp
Went here tonight, and I go about once a month. The food is always good, but a bit over priced for some items, such as salads. We sat at the bar and it took over 10 minutes for the bartender to acknowledge us. Once we ordered, I asked that everything come out together. We got 2 orders of lamb chops ordered less cooked, 2 arugula salads. and the prosciutto pizza. The salads came out first. 10 minutes later the lamb chops and then 5 minutes later the pizza. Seems like they hire young servers and do not train them properly. Really ashame, cause the prices they charge, the staff should have better knowledge.

E.G. S.

Yelp
Recently visited a few times over a few months. This is a really nice venue and restaurant. Drinks are well prepared, bartending staff are great. Servers are very chill and intelligent. Most of the food is great ..but there was a scampi dish one time that seemed confusing..not buttery or seasoned the right way. But apps and drinks made up for it.

Leek B.

Yelp
Very empty restaurant I arrived at 7:08pm for 7:30pm reservation with my 80 year old grandfather on his bday. The male hostess tells us we have to wait until 7:30pm which is fine. I then asked where can my grandfather sit he looks at me like I have 10 heads. He wasn't too welcoming at all. Not to mention being the only two black families and feeling like we were put to sit in corner away from other guest. Tammy was a great waitress provided my grandfather with a great experience.
