Sofitel Buenos Aires

"As of December 2017 this hotel is permanently closed. Once an apartment building, this "elegant hotel with French charm" is in the "lovely neighborhood" of La Recoleta, near art galleries and antiques dealers. "The lobby is gorgeous," and Art Deco rooms designed by Pierre-Yves Rochon have Argentine leather furnishings and a beige, yellow, black, and champagne palette. Dine on foie gras terrine and braised Patagonian lamb at Le Sud, where "the ambience is a little lacking but the food is good." La Bibliotheque lounge is the place for fresh croissants and coffee in the morning; at night, it has live music and a large selection of Argentine wines. "The excellent staff includes a very helpful concierge."

From the moment you walk through the door they start taking care of you. The rooms are spacious and clean, the staff is excellent. After getting off an overnight flight from Atlanta is nice to have someone waiting on you. We arranged for car service through them at a reasonable rate. The driver was professional and the car was clean and comfortable. Upon arrival we were greeted by name and provided refreshments while we waited on the room to be ready (early morning arrival). After a short wait we were escorted to the room and shown the amenities provided. On this same trip we also stayed at the 4 Seasons and like the Sofitel better. They had some of the best empanadas we had during our stay in South America.

great location, Central too many Museums Art Galleries and within a 10 - 50 minute ride of the majority of things to do in Buenos Aires. I would definitely come back. Housekeeping was wonderful reception was great and there's sufficient English spoken. As always learn the local language.

We stayed both here and at the Four Seasons, and believe it or not, I think the Sofitel wins - the rooms are gorgeous, the staff is young and super friendly and helpful. We arrived early in the morning after a long flight, and recognizing we were tired, the girl at the front desk escorted us to a quiet spot where we could relax until a room was available. She even got us refreshments and checked us in without us having to go back to the front desk. Additionally, the cafe makes the most perfect empanadas - some of the best we had in BA. One of my favorite hotels in which I've stayed, and that is saying something.

I am in BA for work and have been staying at the Sofitel BA for about four days already, with a a few days to go. I would say that this place is the best hotel that I have stayed in after spending time in about 20 hotels this year. It is not a resort hotel with large outdoor areas and fancy pools, etc., but the hotel is beautiful, relaxing, and the customer service is first rate. They treat you so good, you almost feel guilty about it. If you are traveling to BA and this hotel is in a convenient location for you, and are thinking about saving a few bucks to stay somewhere else, please punch youself in the face until you change your mind.

My wife and I had the most wonderful 4 days at the Sofitel. The entire front desk team were wonderful but of note, Pablo Castro (Head Concierge), Ariel Hook (Front Desk) and Nicolas Santamonica (Bell Person) went above and beyond their duty to make our stay comfortable and more like home. Pablo is incidentally also the Head of the Concierge organisation in Buenos Aries. A very down to earth gentleman who is full of on-hand knowledge and connections that were wonderful for us to tap into especially given this was our first visit to BA. Sofitel are lucky to have such a great advocate of the city and the Sofitel hotel. Ariel, the gentleman who checked us in and out addressed us by our first names throughout our visit and took a genuine interest on our explorations of BA and constantly checked on how we were enjoying our stay. He also managed to double upgrade us which meant that our 25th anniversary visit was even more special. Thanks Ariel. Nicolas was the bell-person who is always smiling and incredibly helpful in all matters of local directions and our luggage. Thanks Nicolas - do keep smiling. We would only recommend Sofitel to anyone considering a visit to BA.

Great hotel great location, staff are always around in the lobby and you're find there is always two people generally on security/door duty. Minibar is overpriced, but hey there's a supermarket next door (Express) around the corner is supermarket (full). Walking distance to the underground otherwise taxi/walk everywhere else

This hotel is beautiful. I'm not one of those people who love to write terrible reviews. HOWEVER, six different occasions of terrible service is something I have to share. ONE, as we are in awww of the hotel and walking into our room, a staff member of the housekeeping staff was desperate to enter our room. "Cuanto tiempo van a demorar?" It was an odd question seeing how we had pre-reserved the room, an entire day, so we wouldn't have to wait for a normal check in. Upon entering the room, we saw that there was and still is a large stain on the floor between the double beds. I can only assume that's why she wanted to enter the room seeing how everything else was fully stocked. Who knows? We didn't mention this to anyone because hey, how does this affect my stay. As long as the bed is comfortable, right? Wrong. SECOND, the bed was lopsided. No, the bed sheets were not under the bed. The bed was completely flat on one side. My cousin was literally rolling to one side during the first night. This is something that clearly affects our stay so we let the hotel know. A staff of housekeeping came in the room and agreed we needed a new bed. Changed it within half an hour. Perfect. THIRD, I ordered a $4 tea and got something I could have easily paid 50 cents for on the street. I have a sore throat and am a firm believer in hot tea instead of medicine... When I went to the bar downstairs that night. I ordered tea again. A lot better. Definitely worth $5. When I asked why the tea was different they said I would have to ask for this especifico tea in order to get it in room service. It's not the fact that the hotel has separate kitchen that was odd, it was how he said it. As if I should have known. Ok? The funny thing is that the hotel manager hunted down my cousin the following day because of another I indent. FOURTH, the shower handle was stuck on extremely hot temperature. FIFTH, not only did she not believe him that the bed was flat on one side, I wish I could upload a video to this app, she also offered him "whatever he wanted" from a cafe. A cafe? You think with these incidents you would offer something more impactful towards changing our minds about the service. Now the last thing, SIXTH, is the cherry on the top. We booked a night to have dinner and enjoy a show of tango. $135 a person with the hotel. The concierge told us that the trip was private and that they would picked us up between 8pm and 8:30pm so we could eat dinner prior to the show, BUT would confirm the following day. When the letter arrived at our room confirming the pick up time it read 20-20 30. If you're use to looking at time like that, than maybe you see 8pm to 830pm. I see 8:20 to 8:30... It's okay if I made the mistake of reading the time wrong, I can move on from that. I would not have written this had it ended there. Needless to say, when they called us that our ride was there to pick us up and we were not ready, we asked for 5 to 10 minutes. This is when the concierge told us that they can't wait more than 10'minutes because they're picking up other people. Now that's different from what we were told originally. Ok, 4 minutes we were downstairs. I went up to the concierge and asked him about the time. That it was a bit much to tell us that they wouldn't wait for us, seeing how we paid so much. Funny thing is that his response was to change the actual note. No apology until after I told him that this was extremely poor customer service on his part. What's worse is that we drove around for more than half an hour picking up other hotel guests around the city before arriving the dinner and a show. It's sad that a hotel that's rated so high can fail miserably. Maybe it's a one in a hundred. Maybe you're luckier than us. Just thought you should know.
