Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbor, Sydney, Australia - Hotel Review | Condé Nast Traveler

"How did it strike you on arrival? Rearing above Darling Harbour, the 2017-launched Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour hotel is the area’s tallest skyscraper at 35 floors, promising lofty views across the water towards the city skyline. Exhibitionists can appreciate them from romantic freestanding baths! Nice. What’s the crowd like? With the International Convention Centre as a neighbour, this smart, newly-built hotel is a magnet for business guests, but it’s also just a short walk over Pyrmont Bridge to the city center or up-and-coming Barangaroo precinct for shopping, dining or bar-hopping. Families will like Darling Harbour’s kid-friendly entertainments. The good stuff: Tell us about your room. This is big-scale luxury, with 590 swish rooms including 35 lavish suites. Interiors are contemporary with glamorous French influences, combining sandstone tones with seductive comforts and state-of-the-art technology. Even the 35-square-metre entry-level Superior Rooms are spacious, with areas for sitting and working, while you could swing a lion in the palatial, top-tier Club Millesime Bellerive Suite, which has a separate living and dining room, and butler’s pantry. We’re craving some deep, restorative sleep. They got us? Sink into your King-sized Sofitel MyBed with a fashionable suspended headboard. How about the little things, like mini bar, or shower goodies. Any of that find its way into your suitcase? Mini-bars and tea- and coffee-making kit are standard. Please tell us the bathroom won’t let us down. Freshen up in large showers in entry-level rooms, with bespoke French products (Lanvin, with Hermès in suites). Some rooms offer separate showers and baths. Indulgent freestanding baths in select rooms command harbor views. Maybe the most important topic of all: Wi-Fi. What’s the word? Wi-Fi is free in all rooms and available throughout the hotel. In-room gadgets include LED smart TVs. Room service: Worth it? Room service is available 24/7. Staff: If you could award one a trophy, who gets it, and why? Staff are très chic. Book select rooms for Club Millésime membership, giving access to the top-floor lounge and pampering Ambassador Team. Anything stand out about other services and features? Whether it’s childcare, gyms, spas, even parking—whatever stuck with you. Atelier by Sofitel restaurant serves grilled meats and seafood, inspired by the South of France. The Champagne Bar pours the world’s finest Champagnes and cocktails with heady skyline views to match. Ground-floor lobby bar Esprit Noir is a sociable spot from morning croissants to evening cocktails and bar bites. Fourth-floor Le Rivage Pool Bar offers cocktails, wine, bubbles and gourmet bites. What was most memorable—or heartbreaking—about your stay? Chill out at the infinity pool, with jaw-dropping city views from the water and day-beds. Even the modern gym has million dollar vistas. Bottom line: worth it, and why? If you’re vertiginous, this heavenly hotel may not be for you, with floor-to-ceiling windows creating dramatic panoramas." - Sophie Davies

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ An Exceptional Stay at Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour Our stay at the Sofitel in Sydney, Darling Harbour was nothing short of amazing. The hotel truly is second to none — from the stunning pool area and state-of-the-art gym, to our beautiful room and the exceptional service throughout. I loved the self check-in process — so seamless and modern. The lobby was stunning, the location unbeatable, and every facility was immaculate. I honestly cannot fault a single thing. What really stood out was the level of service. Each day, after we’d head out to explore, our room was beautifully refreshed, and then again before we returned in the afternoon — such attention to detail! The hotel’s location made it so easy to get around — walking distance to the city, Chinatown, and even a short Uber ride anywhere else. I even managed to fit in a few sessions at Snap Fitness in Pyrmont, and one morning walked back from breakfast at Bill’s in Surry Hills with ease. Sydney will always have my heart, and Sofitel Darling Harbour made this visit truly special. I wish our stay could have been longer. Highly recommend and would absolutely stay again. Thank you to the incredible Sofitel team for a flawless experience. 💫

We stayed at the Sofitel Darling Harbour in May & had an amazing visit. Valet parking staff were quick, helpful & friendly. Check-in was quick & easy and our room was fresh, clean & modern with lovely views. A special shout out to Anastasia from the Champagne Bar - we arrived almost at closing time, with food service about to finish however she was able to help us get a lovely bite to eat without any fuss or bother. Highly recommend this hotel, whose friendly & helpful staff are it’s greatest asset!

This is in a word, perfection. I usually find something to comment on but this hotel has it all. From the check in experience to the check out the staff are wonderful. Our room was exceptional with a lovely view over Darling harbour. A great pool, and the standards very high, yet friendly. The location is excellent too. A must stay in Sydney.

Sadly, my first experiences of sofitel dsrling harbour is average. Certainly not a five star experience so far. There are loads of 'self check in' booths available which is more at place in a 3 star and not 5 star hotel. At five star prices, I expect a great check in experience and not have all the human aspect removed.||We booked through the FHR program and was told that the usual room upgrade was not available despite having booked it nearly 12 months ago. In the automated SMS messaging, I was also offered a paid upgrade so they clearly were available.||These experiences combined to a very underwhelming start (especially at the price paid). Certain aspects are great. It's very modern, the floor to ceiling windows are great, but it's let down by the experience so far.|As part of our honeymoon, we've stayed at over 15 difference locations over the last month across Australia and New Zealand including many other five star and FHR hotels. This has sadly been the most underwhelming and poorest value for money to date.||Edit: I've written this just before I go to sleep in the hotel and I'm astounded by the noise of the air con. Whilst not unique to this hotel, I can't believe the amount of noise it's generating on the lowest fan setting. Sounds like I'm still in the airplane.||Double edit:||I have been impressed with the response and the air con was fixed whilst I was out. I also had an incredible breakfast which certainly improved the disappointment on the first night. We slept extremely well the second night due to the excellent bedding. Views from the room were great. As a result I've changed the review to four stars||Overall, it was a decent experience let down by the maintence issue with the air conditioning, the check in experience and not honouring the FHR upgrade which I've never had not happen before. We're now staying at the Langham for our final night which did honour the upgrade as usual.

We had a wonderful stay at Sofitel Sydney Darling Harbour. The hotel itself is beautiful and very well kept, with elegant, comfortable rooms that made our time there so enjoyable. The staff were fantastic—welcoming, attentive, and always happy to help. We were there for a conference, and the set up was excellent—everything thoughtfully prepared from tables and stationery to the little details like mints. The absolute standout was the catering. The food was incredible and definitely one of the highlights of our experience. Highly recommend for both business and leisure stays.

Overall, a disappointing stay for the price, especially as a Platinum member. I booked a luxury corner room that felt dated. We weren’t offered a complimentary upgrade, only the option to pay for a suite. Requests through the app were ignored. The digital key never worked and showed an error, which left us with one physical key. When we asked for a second, the first was cancelled, so we still only had one. I’ve never stayed at a five star hotel that effectively limits two guests to a single key. Service in the lounge was very slow. On most evenings we were overlooked for drinks while nearby tables were served multiple times, and we often had to approach staff ourselves. The lounge food was decent and the valet team were friendly. However, we would never stay there again.

I was a little surprised at how small the reception area was and even more surprised at how many people were waiting when I arrived to check in. The reception staff were quite friendly when it was my turn. The room was small but luxurious and had very nice views. I do love the charming handwritten welcome notes I get at Accor properties. This hotel is very convenient to a lot of restaurants and a lot of the installations for Vivid Sydney 2025. It was a very nice place to stay for my first visit to Sydney.

Lovely and classy looking hotel. The environment was well kept and clean, well done to the cleaners. Nice mix of corporate and family patrons checking in during the week and weekend. Facilities like the gym was great, however I did not get a chance to use it along with the relaxation centre. The pool was nice, but with the construction directly across - it was an ABSOLUTE eyesore. Preferred more shade for the kids, so perhaps some pool umbrellas would suffice. Housekeeping was fantastic and prompt, so well done to them. This time the service was a total let down. Upon arrival, front desk made it clear that ‘no request was too difficult’ and quote ‘make it our problem’ which was impressive and I felt an ease and a sense of excitement that my family was in good hands. During our first night stay, we wanted to request room service after a long day. We contacted concierge who took our order, but when we requested a simple High Chair for my daughter, the answer was ‘we don’t have high chairs’. I was in shock/baffled that a 5 star hotel with multiple bars and restaurants did not have a single high chair available for children. Interestingly, during my stay I could confirm seeing ALOT of young children running around especially around the pool. As mentioned, for a well respected hotel like Sofitel. ‘No, we do not have high chairs’ was the last thing I expected. I was very disappointed that there was not even a consideration to borrow one from the many restaurants internally? I think more understanding of the environmental demographic staying at the vicinity would be considered, but severely disappointed at the lack of effort made. I was advised by front desk that Sofitel Darling Harbour was the flagship. Based on my experience, I think Wentworth Sofitel should be the flagship as they were more than happy to assist on all my requests during my stay. Perhaps training front of house staff on managing expectations would be high on the priority list moving forward.

Yelp
Loved staying here. After a week of hostels around Australia and New Zealand, this was a nice refresher. We had actually been booked for an Airbnb, but upon arrival there, we weren't comfortable staying. Thankfully Sofitel was able to take us in at 11:30pm and were super hospitable at such a late hour. The rooms were large and clean, the infinity pool was beautiful, and it was in a phenomenal location on the harbor. So glad we finished our trip here

Yelp
Sadly, I have to give a one-star review when I rarely give one star. Looking for an early coffee on my harbour walk, I thought I would try Sofitel for a coffee. What a mistake; not only was it the worst coffee I have ever had, it was $6.70 when the competition locally charges $4.50 even the luxury hotel cafe at QT that has the ambience of an amazing cafe charge only $5. Now back to the coffee, it was not made to order 'extra hot' it was luke warm and extremely bitter, you could taste the grounds as if they were bits of sand in the cup. The ambience was typical large hotel buffet breakfast style, music not relaxing at all, and a very bad experience overall. I even asked to see the barista area to make sure it was not a machine-based coffee and I was saddended to see the barista hidden behind a screen out of the dining area's view. Now, I like to say hi to my barista not have them treated like second-class workers hidden out back. Now if you just want a coffee wait for the surrounding cafes to open and consider other options.

Yelp
I stayed at the Sofitel in the Sydney Darling Harbor at the end of March. It's in a great location, light rail is right across the way which is very convenient. The room was an average hotel room. The bathroom setup is kind of odd because it's right next to the bed which means you can hear everything that's going on in the bathroom from the outside even with the door closed. If this is how the room was going to be designed, they should have installed a fan in the bathroom for a little privacy, lol. There were a few hiccups of our first 2 days when house cleaning didn't clean our room and left our leftovers from room service all day even though we asked the front desk if they could clear it. The room smelled when we returned. Anyhow, the lobby is nice, there's coffee bar/bar right there. Most of the staff were very nice and helpful. There is a lot of construction/cranes which we were unaware of in that area which kills the view from the pool. We went to the pool at night to enjoy a warm evening but that was cut short as there were huge cockroaches coming under the concreate of areas were concrete titles should be grouted - disgusting! Needless to say, we packed up and ran back up to our room. The Champagne Bar is overrated, overpriced and we had horrible service the evening of 3/27/25. I asked one of the staff if we could order from her and she goes, "I'm new" and walked away. God forbid she learns her job and our original waiter kept walking past our table and seemed to be ignoring us when we tried asking for our bill. However, we also tried The Atelier Bar the evening of 3/29/25 and it was so much better, but they did try to charge us for an extra round that we did not have. We did have a first round which was already paid for with proof of the receipt. I think or at least I hope it was just that confusion of the first round. But just because we're drinking doesn't mean we're not paying attention :-) Anyhow, for the most part, it was a pleasant stay.

Yelp
I stayed for a weekend getaway in a corner suite at Sofitel Darling Harbour with Club Millisime access. It was an excellent stay. The room was modern, included a free standing bath and was appointed with Balmain toiletries. The room overlooked Darling harbour and the Sydney CBD and also provided a unique perspective of ANZAC bridge. Club Millisime access was a fantastic addition to the stay. Breakfast served in the top floor club on weekends. Club Millisime also treated its guests to included drinks and canapés from 5.30pm until 7pm and an ample selection of cakes, sandwiches and coffees in the afternoon. The infinity pool boasts a spectacular view of Darling harbour and the city, so be sure to book in your two hour slot. The gym is is appointed and relatively spacious too. Excellent customer service in Club Millisime and from the front of house and concierge staff topped off a perfect stay.

Yelp
I reserved our room online and the photo showed the stunning bathroom views of the harbor, but when we arrived they said those rooms were all booked. I was so bummed but what can you do? I reserved through hotels.com so it is what it is. The girl could see I was disappointed, I mean I had travelled all the way from Los Angeles and was excited for the view so when we came back a couple hours later to get our key (we had arrived early) she didn't even say anything! We walked up to the room and that lovely woman had managed to get us the room we were hoping for! What an experience! I literally sat in that tub overlooking the harbor for 4 hours. 11/10 absolutely would recommend. Maybe give them a shout ahead of time to assure your rooms location because who knows if you'll cross paths with that angel.

Yelp
I had such a memorable stay at the Sofitel Darling Harbour. This hotel property does provide luxury amenities and services. Rooms are extremely comfortable, tastefully decorated, and provide high end amenities. I'd definitely recommend to book a room with Harbour view as it's so beautiful. But what impressed me the most was the level of service that exceeded my expectations. Staff was extremely attentive, professional, and friendly. Any request was treated quickly and efficiently.

Yelp
We have stayed 4 times now and find it easy in so many ways. Driving over the bridge is fast to the Darling Harbour exit, much better than other city hotels! Handy to everything, fantastic rooms and views and if you choose the Club Milleseme package, it has the best view and breakfast. And don't forget the Champagne Bar! The only downside is the Valet parking at $79 per night, very expensive.

Yelp
1 night layover. Speed check in on 28 June night in priority lane. Friendly reception. Fast WiFi. Modern room. Clickety fan over door in ventilation shaft. Great view from 24 floor. Buffet breakfast included for $1. Amazing. Gym was new & squeaky clean. New weights. 15 min walk to town hall station for airport train. Will bring the kids back!

Yelp
Have been staying at quite a few Accor properties and Sofitel is one of their brands . Just tried to check in at 9 am and was told by Alice at checkin that it was impossible. Three colleagues that are not members got early check-in .. This has happened before at Accor's Fairmont property in Boston so I think you they have a policy of better treatment to attract non members. Tip of day is not to be part of the loyalty program and you'll get better service..

Yelp
The location and the hotel are very nice. The reception desk is very unorganized. Long story short, they didn't hold our room that was reserved and prepaid for two months. So when we arrived late at night from overseas travel, we waited for almost one hour to get a room. First, they actually gave us a key TO SOMEONE ELSE'S OCCUPIED ROOM. We came back to the desk livid. After another 20 minutes of yelling they begrudgingly gave us a room that was higher priced than what we reserved because it was all that was left. After this fiasco, the room itself and the location were fine and we had no further hiccups.

Yelp
Good location with lots of restaurants nearby, clean and spacious rooms and reasonably good staff. But not sure how you can have a business hotel in which WiFi barely works for many of the floors. I had to do my work in the lobby or restaurant since these are only floors that seem to have consistent internet connectivity. It was a long week.
