Sofitel Washington DC Lafayette Square

"It’s appropriate that this D.C. hotel does luxury with a slightly French twist: The Sofitel overlooks Lafayette Square, which takes its name from the French hero of the American Revolution, the Marquis de Lafayette, whom you might know from a little musical called Hamilton. Today, Gallic touches include the 1920s-inspired Paris Ballroom and the Opaline Bar & Brasserie, where you can rub elbows with power lunchers as you dine on cucumber mint vichyssoise, crispy duck confit, tarte flambée, and caramelized neufchâtel cheesecake. The Art Deco–tinged building dates back to 1925, and Armenian-American architect Mihran Mesrobian was responsible for many of the city’s grandest hotels of the day, including the Hay–Adams Hotel and the old Carlton Hotel, which is now the St. Regis. A 2014 design overhaul took inspiration from the 1960s renovations of the White House—just steps away—complete with grand columns, coffered ceilings, and brass inlay marble floors."

We loved Mr. Drew he was with us our entire stay. We loved the room it’s stated for 4 people but we included our 3 kids in our stay. There was enough space for all of us and we still had a little privacy. Our kids loved having food delivered after a long day of walking around the city. The hotel was a perfect area not too far from all of the monuments and sites. The staff was very friendly and initiative. Breakfast was amazing in the restaurant and in the room. I wish the oatmeal stay hot longer it was warm both times we got it. Also wish my kids could’ve received plain pancakes. Other than that everything was amazing.

A true gem in a great location. We had a wonderful stay and time at Sofitel Lafayette Square. The staff and their manager ensured that we were looked after throughout our stay. The hotel is very convenient located and only a stone throw from the White House.||We stayed in a Prestige One-bedroom King Suite that offers a separate lounge area with a dining table and a great view. The staff had kindly arranged for us to stay in the same room as we stayed in before. On arrival, the minibar fridge was not very cold, so the staff quickly arranged for a fridge to be brought to our room, despite it being very late in the evening.||We didn’t eat in the restaurant, but we did get a takeaway from there that we enjoyed in our room.||We will definitely be back to Sofitel Lafayette Square.

My two adult daughters and I stayed at Sofitel DC in a (2) double bed room. The room was super clean, and very well appointed with a spacious bathroom and desk area. The property is extremely close to all of the major DC attractions, most especially the White House. We appreciated the lovely breakfasts at their main restaurant, Opaline. ||While a double sink isn't available, the bathroom amenities were nice and included a decent hairdryer and lots of counterspace which is important with three women sharing it!||We had our laundry done by the hotel and they did a great job, with everything being returned on time. ||The only downside was that the restaurant operating hours were rather limited, and room service closed early. There are not any convenient places nearby to just grab a quick bite after hours, so planning ahead was helpful. To help, the hotel did offer a virtual mini bar - 24/7 you can ask the front desk for candies, chips or so a few different drinks/pre-made cocktails. ||We would definitely stay at Sofitel again, and recommend it to our friends.

Google
The hotel was clean and spacious. It had extra amenities like bathrobes, slippers, large spacious closet, large bathroom with separate shower and jacuzzi tub and a large couch that all 5 of us could comfortably sit in to watch a movie at night. Our family of 5 had plenty of space in the suite (and we have a couple of teenage boys). Staff was welcoming and helpful and we were within walking distance of the White House, Old Ebbitt Grill and the Washington monument. It was perfect!

My husband and I went to DC and stayed at Sofitel coincidently on the weekend of the 250th Army Anniversary. The location of this hotel is PRIME. Close to all the must see attractions. Everything was seamless from valet to check in. Rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and accommodating. Just want to acknowledge Duke at check in, thank you for making our stay a memorable one!

Google
Hotel presents itself as a luxurious 5 star place, but reality is far away from there...||1. Weak barely working shower, loud & again weak AC||2. The night we checked in person on reception was quite blunt and not friendly||3. No sets of toiletry. Everything in dispensers, which is sooo cheap||4. Must admit bed is comfy and room is quite.||5. Location is fine, close to white house||6. Room just old fashioned and outdated. Old furniture, hair dryer...||Overall, I would not recommend to stay there as place is not aliged with 5 start standards, does not provide any luxurious experience, Room and facilities are old and low quality. So no value for money that you are paying.

The hotel was the perfect size if looking for something that’s not a massive chain hotel. The ambiance was cozy and professional. The French theme was welcoming and all staff were friendly. The valet team was awesome and provided first class service. The shower was amazing!!! They had coffee and water in The room which was perfect. The Opaline restaurant was a pleasant treat for breakfast. They had the best bacon!!!! Staff was friendly and very helpful. The location was perfect for sightseeing in DC-less than a half mile from Mall. The hotel is in an old building that has its own charm. However, the rooms need to be refreshed - Also, when we arrived only a few outlets worked, which made charging electronics difficult!! This was reported to the front desk and immediately they responded with staff to make an assessment. They were eventually able to get some outlets to work, but not all. I would consider this hotel again.

Google
Honestly, this hotel, and the location, is fantastic, the only thing keeping it from 5 stars are a few improvements that I’ll list later. We stayed here for 3 nights over the 4th of July weekend, and booked through the Chase luxury hotels program, so it included breakfast and a property credit and a sweet welcome gift. The staff of the hotel were all friendly and professional. This place is the best bang for your buck and is centrally located. If you are planning to watch the fireworks at the national mall, walking back to this hotel is the best, avoid the metro and stay local, it made the whole experience so easy. The rooms are quiet and solid, you can’t hear much outside the room or the windows, the corner rooms are awesome with a ton of windows. The AC system is old, our room never got below 70, so that was a bit rough in summer, and the beds don’t have a sheet, just a comforter, which is an odd choice. The beds were really comfortable, but I noticed no mattress protector on the mattress, which seems like a hygiene issue. Some features such as the mirror in the bathroom were run down and dirty, otherwise everything else seemed clean and fine. Opaline the restaurant for breakfast is great, food is wonderful, service is subpar and always unfriendly, when you realize gratuity is automatically billed for the meals, you realize why the waiters don’t care about being polite. The prices of the restaurant are outrageous, but can be kept under $100 if you avoid juices and extras, if you are trying to stay under the property credit if you booked through a travel benefit. Charging per cup of coffee instead of the entire carafe is a bit much, the coffee is fantastic but expensive, French press. Would gladly stay here again, as the deficiencies are minor and don’t detract from the overall stay too much. Also just an FYI, no mini refrigerator in the room, which was inconvenient but manageable with.

Yelp
We had a great stay at this location. I'd give it 4.5 stars compared to other Sofitel Hotels we've stayed at in different parts of Europe. It's a star above the Sofitel New York in Midtown which wasn't as spacious. The building dates back to 1928, which is why the Sofitel Lafayette Square is considered to be a historic hotel. Accor acquired the office building and renovated it back into a boutique hotel. You can definitely see this in the art deco design of the lobby. I couldn't help but stare up at the grand look of the clocks above the elevators while sitting on the comfy emerald green lounge seating. There are gorgeous 1920's scenes of Paris inside the elevators and around the hotel. The mosaic flooring in the breakfast café was also a nice touch. There is a coffee and tea station in a little parlor type room to the right of the reception area. There are many advantages as a guest. Make sure you review the Urban Experience fee inclusions card for more details. It even includes a guided daily run and yoga classes, as well as a 10% discount on food and beverages at Opaline. We were able to get an upgrade to a luxury corner room. The service here is fantastic. The room was very spacious. The duvet cover was very comfortable and warm. I liked having a Nespresso machine with espresso cups and saucers. The leather furnishings were a bit worn, but clean. We appreciated the use of the robe and slippers provided. Although, my husband was also looking for slippers as well. I'm guessing there's not a need for 2 pairs of slippers. The shower stall is a good size, but I do suggest that they shorten the extension of the shower head during their next remodel. There's not a whole lot of extra room to soap up. The water pressure was very good. It looks like Sofitel switched from Hermes to the Balmain brand of products in their bathroom amenities. It's not as strong of a scent, which is nice. Overall, the room was quiet and comfortable. We enjoyed it! Our breakfast at Opaline was great. We especially loved the coffee. The location of the hotel is perfect. It's close to everything. We wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Yelp
This is not a 5 star Hotel! The location is the only decent aspect of this hotel. It is located about three mins away from the White House in the heard of DC. Cons: - Old: this place needed a renovation like 15 years ago. They have old school light switches - the ones you flip up and down. The floor boards are worn and dirty. Beds: when you initially walk in you realize the mattresses are so worn that they sink down in the middle where people sleep Room service : does not exist! But at least food delivery services can deliver to your room directly Snacks: no where to even buy snacks on the property Fridge: the "fridge" in the room is a wine cooler and not even able to cook. It is musty and gross. Furniture: worn, old, outdated and ugly Technology: does not exist, basic channels on basic tv Parking: $75 a night Return: nope

Yelp
This place was a dud. It's a "5 star hotel" in every place I could find from Google maps to TripAdvisor. It's generally well rated as well according to most reviews. We booked it thinking we got a good deal for under $200 considering most sites we checked this place was going for $300-400 for the same dates. Upon arrival, we noticed that the auto opening front doors didn't operate correctly. You generally had to manually open them. Not sure why they don't have a revolving door like most places around here do. Check-in was short n sweet which is nice but didn't get that 5 star vibe. We noticed one of the buttons on the 7th floor didn't work to call the elevator. Also ice machine on our floor was out of order. Headed up to check out our room and thought maybe they put us in the wrong room and wrong hotel. Shit looked like a Days Inn and the worst part was they booked us in a room with two doubles when I clearly have a King bed listed on my reservation. They offered to move us later in the week when I complained but we realized that this was more of a hassle than it would be worth since we would be checking out two days after the move. Better to get settled in a shitty room than to have to move to a less shitty room a few days later. More issues with the room include, no office chair if you want to work, integrated lighting for the bathroom mirror was peeling away and looked melted, the toilet would continuously run after flushing unless you took off the lid and flipped the chain, the beds weren't great, everything was old, not updated, the closet was useless, and small, and had a small screen TV for a "5 star" property. I'm all for old boutique hotels but usually they are clean, modern, and presentable. This place was not. I don't see how anyone could be happy spending their money here when there are so many other fine properties in DC. They got me this time, never again!

Yelp
Visiting DC from Jersey. The hotel is located in a great location. Walking distance to many of the museums, restaurants, and DC landmarks. The front desk was friendly and very helpful. The hotel is very quiet. The room and bathroom were clean. Great water pressure in the shower. Many amenities. The room was spacious. King size bed was very comfortable. The only complaint was that the coffee maker didn't work properly. It was a rainy weekend in DC. They had complimentary umbrellas, which was great. They have a restaurant and bar on premises. We didn't try them. Valet attendants are very attentive and quick to retrieve our car. The parking is $65 a night for a regular sized car. We had our car ready in 10 minutes. Nowhere else to park on the street. Check-in and check out were quick.

Yelp
I had a great stay here. The room was nicely decorated and modern. The bed was clean and comfy. I liked that the bathroom had a separate bathtub from the shower. The lobby area of the hotel was beautiful with lots of green velvet. There are several good restaurants within walking distance but if you didn't feel like venturing out, the restaurant at the hotel is also a good spot.

Yelp
I expected more for a Sofitel - didn't look at Yelp before booking bc I thought, well it's a Sofitel, it'll be great. As other reviewers said, it's not what I consider a 5 star hotel. It was small and room was not particularly luxurious. Bathroom mirror was peeling and toiletries were "Balmain Paris" which I thought oh it'll be quality - so I used it when I normally use my own toiletries. Later I read the bottle and it's made in China!!! Acckkkkk! Like even a Renaissance which is a 4 star hotel uses Aveda ... c'mon... don't skimp on the toiletries in a "luxury" hotel.... I didn't mind the $65 valet bc I know DC parking is pricey. Location was decent (the reason I booked here) - we were walking distance to the White House, National Mall, all the Memorials. Staff was friendly and the beds/down pillows were very comfortable. Aside from that though, it was not up to the quality of a 5 star hotel.

Yelp
This is not a luxury hotel. I was treated with what I can only describe as contempt by the restaurant staff as a solo traveler. I stayed three nights and had breakfast in the restaurant each day. The waiters were rushed and rude each day. In spite of this, I tipped more than 20% --only realizing afterward that an additional 18% tip is automatically added to the bill. On my last morning, the waiter forgot (?) my order and I eventually left without breakfast. I suspect this terrible service is a result of poor management and I regret not booking a better hotel while in DC.

Yelp
We love staying at Sofitels. The room was lovely, the staff is always friendly and goes out of their way to be helpful. The restaurant downstairs served us a great brunch! Staying at a Sofitel is not just staying at any nice hotel, staying at a Sofitel always adds to our enjoyment of our strip.

Yelp
We LOVED this hotel. Pros: - Close to the White House and tourist attractions. We walked to many sites or took a short Uber. - Super comfy beds and bedding - Clean and updated - Nice restaurant on site with wonderful outdoor patio - Wonderful service at front desk - Housekeeping staff did an excellent job Cons: A/C cooled the room but we would have liked to lower it a few more degrees at night. Could only go to 64 degrees I give this property 10/10!

Yelp
This hotel is nicer than an average hotel, but in comparison to other 5 star hotels I've stayed at it falls short in many aspects.I have never stayed at Sofitel and was excited to experience another luxury chain. I will not stay at this location again, and likely won't stay at Sofitel in any city. Let's start with the positives. The location was amazing. We were near everything & able to get everywhere within minutes. The staff was extremely professional, courteous and helpful. The security was great. There was an attendant at the front door all night and the elevator requires room key. The hotel smells amazing and is very clean. Beds and pillows were very comfortable. Where it falls short... there were no modern amenities, no personal touches and food options were very limited. For me, these items really make a hotel 5 stars. The shower had no bench or area for shaving and the water pressure was terrible, so bad we had to either take a steaming hot shower or hose off in the bath tub. I was so glad I didn't have to wash my hair. However, the soap, lotion and shampoo was very nice. TV was extremely limited with about 20 local channels, no option to project phone or sign into streaming apps like Netflix and we couldn't review room charges or checkout on the tv like in other luxury hotels I've stayed in. The phones were so old, l you couldn't hear anything when speaking to the front desk/ room service. The cleaning crew made beds and refreshed towels, but didn't throw away old food or obvious trash on the counters. The countertops/ desk were left untouched and unorganized and there were no sweet treats on pillows or thank you notes. The coffee & creamer in the room were off brands and comparable to your average 2-3 star hotel. No additional coffee, creamer or waters were left, even though we used them all everyday. I know how this section sounds but I am accustomed to these extra things when staying in luxury hotels & love them. There were simply no warm & fuzzy feelings or personal touches. We stayed during 4th of July weekend. The hotel provided umbrellas which was nice, but when I asked for towels/ blanket to watch the fireworks I was directed to the nearest CVS. I was floored by this response. And the food, there is a very nice French bistro in the hotel. It was delicious with great drinks. However, food at the hotel stopped when the restaurant closed at 9:45pm. There were no options for food after the restaurant closed. Room service was from the restaurant. No late night options, I was told to order from UberEats. Also, there are no kid friendly options to choose from. Overall we had a nice stay, but was disappointed since this hotel is considered a 5 star luxury hotel.

Yelp
We really liked this hotel and the location is nicely located. Had cold water one day for a shower but other then that the room was nice

Yelp
Honestly not the best and not up to Accor standards. My husband and myself came here to celebrate or anniversary. I used a suite upgrade and was excited to come spend time here. Our suite was facing the back of another building with not view at all which made me a little sad. The couch was stained and dirty and there were water spots on the ceiling. Cons: Lousily suite No specials occasion extras Expensive parking (expected in DC) Hot and stuffy bedding No rooftop area Pros: Location Good bar/bartenders Location

Yelp
AAA rates this as in the top 20% of 3-star hotels and being clean, which is accurate. The good: Excellent location for sightseeing on the National Mall. Friendly staff. Clean. Large bathrooms with separate shower and bathtub. There are three reasonably priced dining options for lunch or dinner nearby (Cheesecake Factory, Old Ebbitt Grill, and The Hamilton). Very close to the Metro (McPherson Square), that has direct access to Reagan National Airport (DCA) and access to Dulles Airport (IAD), the Zoo, the Capitol, and Nationals Park with a transfer. The bad: It needs an update and it is an old building, so its furnishings are worn and you will hear plumbing and HVAC noise and doors being closed. I reserved a Luxury King Bed room. The room that I was initially assigned had a 12" to 18" crack in a window, a clothes iron mark burned into the rug, and worn furniture, including a chair that was ripped (see photos). When I informed the front desk of the damage, I was reassigned to a different room that was in better condition (no cracked windows or burns in the carpet), but its chairs were still worn, the shower door was misaligned and made a screeching glass-on-glass sound every time it was closed, and in fact did not close all the way, and the silver on the bathroom mirror was peeling off. The worst part of the second room was the constant noise from the duct work over the bathtub that made it difficult to sleep at night, or concentrate during the day. The rooms didn't feel like they are as large as the hotel's description of them says they are. There is a $30 a night ($34.79 with tax) "urban experience" fee which really only provides coffee in the lobby in the morning and ice water in the afternoon. Hotel breakfast is expensive and there are not any sit-down breakfast restaurants nearby. The bottomline: A good place to stay if you get a low room rate that reflects that it is a very good 3-star hotel in an excellent location with a friendly staff, but it truly needs updating and is an old building, and you will not have easy access to a reasonably-priced, sit-down breakfast restaurant.

Yelp
It was an awful experience; the only silver lining was the location, which was pretty close to the White House and other attractions. Knowing that Sofitel is a well-known brand in Europe, we picked this hotel for visiting our nation's capital - big mistake. Our plane landed in the evening, so we got to the hotel at around 10 PM. The expectation (considering 5-star standard) was that the receptionist would at least try to smile at us and be hospitable for choosing this hotel - not really. Instead, we got a 20-25-year-old full of attitude girl who treated us like she was doing us a favor by being there at this time of the night. OK - one box unchecked for the known French hospitality. Secondly, we got into the room - the wall right next to the door had a big dent, looking like it had been fist-punched by a previous guest - not too 5-star looking hotel... OK, things happen; let's watch some Netflix. Oops, we got an error message that the HDMI cables were messed up. Forget about everything; let's go to sleep. The next day we called reception to fix the TV; they sent the repair person. After 3-4 tries, still no luck. The following day we went for breakfast at Opaline, which is the hotel restaurant. We were received with the worst service possible, but I guess it was in line with the reception desk. Out of curiosity, I timed the experience from getting seated to getting attention (13 mins) and getting food on the table (40 mins), even though the occupancy was at 30%. Horrible end-to-end experience.

Yelp
Clean, quiet, comfy, close! Only blocks away from the White House, and walking distance to the Washington Memorial, Smithsonian museums and about a mile and a half to the Spy Museum, the Sofitel is a gem of a hotel. The staff was very friendly, and the amenities were very clean. Our room had light blocking blinds so I had one of the most restful night's of sleep I have had at a hotel. The bathroom had a walk in shower, and a separate step in bath tub. Parking is on site, and a very tasty breakfast was included in the cost. I would give this place five stars, but our room did not have a functioning refrigerator. It was an empty minibar refrigerator that was small and did not keep things cool. Overall, it was a great stay!

Yelp
Disappointed with my stay at the Sofitel Hotel. While this hotel is supposed to be a 5-star hotel, I would say it is more comparable to a 3-star hotel. My room was dirty -- dusty and stains on the chair. The AC stopped working in the middle of the night so the room was extremely hot. The room did not have close to the quality of a 5-star hotel nor did the service. With the high prices, for my next trip to DC, I would definitely pick a different hotel to stay at.

Yelp
We stayed in Washington DC for approximately 6 days. An extensive search for the ideal hotel was done to determine which one was going to be the cleanest. Upon making our decision, we chose the hotel that didn't have pictures with cockroaches. When we travel we usually end up choosing this company. They have a pretty good track record in being clean and classy. Nearing the second to last day of our vacation however, my attention was brought to the upper wall of our hotel room where a large 1 inch cockroach was wondering around. When we tried to kill or catch it. The cockroach immediately jumped off the wall and practically flew onto my wife's face then it bounced onto our bed. We eventually killed it and showed the manager the evidence of this situation. We were subsequently moved to another room similar to the one we ordered without further incident. We are fully aware of the realization that bugs are everywhere. When you work hard at work to earn a vacation, and pay a high premium on a hotel stay, you don't expect to stay in the cockroach motel. Unfortunately, We might reconsider returning here the next time we visit Washington DC and try another hotel. To end on a positive note. The staff was kind to us, very considerate and welcoming.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The vibe is just right. Very close, walking distance, to the White House and amazing restaurants. A short scooter ride to attractions like the Washington monument. Easy ride to Georgetown. The beds are probably one in the best I've ever had. And I stay in hotels 150+ nights per year. Guest service and vibe are obv up to the Sofitel standard. Hashtag worth it.

Yelp
I enjoyed my 3 night stay at this hotel. The location is perfect for walking to the Smithsonian Museums and the monuments. It is convenient to the Red, Blue and Yellow Metro lines. The bathroom was stocked with Lanvin toiletries which I liked. The rooms are a good size and nicely decorated. The technology is up to date with WiFi working well. The tv had a wide selection of cable channels but no HBO. I was happy to see Google Chromecast on the tv so I could watch my favorite apps and programs cast from my phone. The one significant area I wasn't thrilled with was the check in. My room was not ready when I arrived. The clerk was extremely slow and wasted a lot of my time. I received a call when I could check in and was told that my luggage would be sent to my room. It never arrived so I had to go down and get it myself. It was on the floor behind the front desk and the attendant was conversing with the desk clerk. No offer of help. If I could award half stars, I would grant 3.5 rather than 4.

Yelp
Ooh la la! Walking into Sofitel Lafayette Square, the hotel air smells like a L'Occitane. What a joy it was to stay at this hotel. Knowing what I know about DC, I parked across the street. The hotel valet charges a fortune, mamma didn't raise no dummys! Walking into the lobby and checking in, its very chic. The one thing I noticed, there isn't anything complementary. I saw some hot water but no tea bags? It would of been nice to have a large jug of ice water with lemon slices? Get on that Sofitel, I'm an idea man. This hotel is in a prime location. I left my car in the garage, there was no need for any type of driving during my stay. Restaurants and shopping? All within the area. Public transportation? Boom, very close. Uber pick up, there are two entrances so make sure you tell the driver where you'll be. Walking into our room, its all new. The bathroom looks spotless, there is a tub as well as a standup shower. The bed was soooo comfy and the closets were also large and in charge. Once we put our stuff away and settled in, we went outside to relax on the street patio. I went to Total Wine, bought a cigar and some drinks for my wife and I to indulge before dinner at Joes Crabs across the street. My French-Canadian wife enjoys being greeting in French. That's the allure with the Sofitel Lafayette Square Hotel. Its secret is the high quality bath fixtures, soft sheets and great customer service. If we had more time, I would have liked to dine here but there is too much in the area. I walked a block away and went to Zekes for coffee & breakfast. Whatever your choice may be, you can't go wrong with the Sofitel Lafayette Square hotel.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel with an European flair. This hotel is a listed a member of the Historic Hotel of America and Historic Hotels Worldwide. I took my husband here for his birthday weekend of August 3rd & 4th. After a red eyed flight from San Francisco, we arrived in DC at 10am and decided to see if we can check in early. A wonderful doorman greeted us and held the door opened for us. Not only were we able to check in early (without a fee!), we were very pleased with the service and swiftness at the counter. Feel free to look at all the plentiful photos that I took of our room below! ROOM: A king size bed, not much of a view. View of a side building. Very clean, modern, tastefully decorated, with lots of space for 2 people. Room included a large bathroom with both a walk in shower and bathtub. LANVIN PARIS Body lotion, Shampoo and Conditioner which smells soo good! The whole room smelled fresh like a fragrance counter. Large bed, plush pillows. 2 complimentary water bottles for us. Coffee maker, flat screen TV. Closet with a safe. Artwork of Paris and the Eiffle Tower (wish our hotel in Paris has half as good as this!) as well as artwork of DC. Sunday morning, I woke up and ordered room service from the restaurant downstairs, Opaline Bar & Brasserie. I ordered scrambled eggs and French Toast. What a treat, breakfast was delicious with 2 small bottles of glass maple syrup (a touch that I only received at Bellagio Las Vegas, glass jams). The best part was the walk ability score to the White House, Museums, Parks, Restaurants, etc. Wonderful stay and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone!

Yelp
We have stayed at this hotel twice now, most recently November 16-19 of 2023. We booked this hotel through armed forces travel as my fiancé is an armed forces veteran. We paid in full through the third party and at the end of our stay got a receipt for all of the additional charges. There was a charge made to my fiancés credit card that the hotel could not show us why. They kept claiming it was the 3rd party. We disputed it and won the initial dispute. At that point we felt the case was closed and it was dealt with. They have now charged again, one month after. Today is my grandmothers memorial service and we have had to deal with this on top of everything else. We are disputing the charge again, with zero understanding or reasoning from the hotel. This is our 3rd time requesting information about the charge directly from the hotel. I am tired and this isn't okay. I wouldn't even post a review if they hadn't tried to do this for a second time. Will never stay here again and filed a grievance with armed forces travel as well. Be warned when booking through a third party here.

Yelp
We checked into the Sofitel hotel. We had a late checkin. We arrived in the room, 919 which was a Junior Executive Suite. On the surface everything looked ok. I opened up the sofa bed to prepare the bed for my son, and I found what appears to be a very thin mattress that was stained in multiple spots. There was no bedding on it. Not that I was going to allow my son to sleep on this, I looked in the closet and there was no bedding to be had. The small in room mini-bar refrigerator was empty and had a foul smell. Under the pull out couch was completely filthy, as if it had not been cleaned in a while. I went and spoke to the front desk and they offered to move us to another room. We then moved to room 717, and things were slightly better. This time the pull out couch had a top sheet, but there was still no bedding to be had in the room. Both rooms had a view of an alley and other wings of the hotel. For a Junior Executive Suite, I would have expected a premium view other than the alley. There was definitely a lack of attention to detail when it comes to cleanliness and general maintenance. The mini fridge was empty and appeared to have water leaking in it. For the price we are paying for the room, I would expect better attention to detail and cleanliness. Especially during COVID. The first room, the tv remotes were wrapped in plastic bags, and in the second room, they were not wrapped. I always wipe the room down anyway, but that is not the point. The shower was very small for the type of room. On a positive note, the size of the room was decent. The main bed was very comfortable and there were two separate A/C units in the room and they worked great. Update: we checked out early and was never contacted by a manger.

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous. The service is top notch and the hotel is beautiful. The location could not be better, as it is a 5 min walk to the White House.

Yelp
BOOKER BEWARE. Listen to all the poor reviews to save yourself a headache and hundreds of dollars, i wish i did but instead told myself how bad could a 300$+ a night "luxury" hotel be. Well, very bad. Booked from 11/18-11/20 for two guests everything looked very promising. Valet was aggravating because i just wanted to park my own car and the guy acted like he didn't know what i meant when i mentioned public parking garage...so essentially valet is mandatory and it's 60$ per night. Lobby was stunning, we peeked into the restaurant also gorgeous. Upon check in we didn't receive our "welcome drinks" mentioned during the online booking, mind you i did not book third party as i didn't want any hiccups so everything was done directly on their site. Went up to our room, bathroom was decent and clean however if i booked for two guests for two nights how would one robe, one pair of slippers, two towels, and two washcloths suffice ? Bed was decent and comfy, the blanket at the foot of the bed was stained beyond belief-just throw it out at this point. Our "bose speaker" that was boasted during booking as an amenity was essentially obsolete, the "premium mini bar" was....nonexistent, in fact our fridge door couldn't even open! The nespresso machine looked promising until i wasted one of our only TWO 16oz water bottles bc the thing didn't even work. Whatever, we figured we'd just be sleeping here and out all day. Went to dinner and museums came back to sleep and the heater was making a constant banging noise allllllll night. We decided we just could not justify paying the money we were paying with this list of unfortunate events and opted to check out a day early and we booked another hotel for the night. We were checking out and i wanted to clarify with the guy at the desk exactly the breakdown of what we paid. When he brought up "a mandatory amenity fee" i listed exactly why i would not be paying for that. Also, they tax you on your price for the night then add the fee and then tax THAT amount. I told the guy we weren't at all satisfied with our stay and found another hotel for the night. No apology, no response, no effort to get us to stay and make it right, he just looked up from his computer and said "so i just charged u for the night and the tax for it, okay? you'll receive a receipt in your email" in a dismissive pissy tone. Walked out feeling robbed for the night we even wasted there....Alas, no receipt was in our email (we've checked all day) Completely unacceptable. If you're thinking of staying here might i suggest the park full of tents with homeless people around the corner of the building, they probably have better customer service. This "luxury" hotel is far from it and pulls bait and switch tactics to get you to feel like you'll be getting something worth the money they charge for rooms...do not stay here!!

Yelp
I had a great experience at the Sofitel Hotel. I visited the capital for Valentines day with the girlfriend and the experience was wonderful. Upon arrival the check in process was fast and easy, we arrived early and check in was at 3:00PM. Nevertheless, they check us in early around noon. The staff was pleasant, through and informative, offering guides and local recommendations for entertainment and restaurants. We arrived to our room with a city view and every was perfect, untilll..... yes there was a but. There was a large rather noticeable brown spot on the roof. Based on the placement I can tell it seemed like water damage from maybe the bathroom of a room above us. While this may have not been a really big issue for some, I expect more from a 4+ hotel and especially for Valentines Day. I didn't notice it until we were half unpacked. I went downstairs and informed the front desk. They quickly apologized and offered to change our room and upgrade if possible free of charge and room the resort fee which was daily for the inconvenience! After the girlfriend and I talked it over she was already unpacked by the time I got upstairs to talk to her and she was ok with staying and mentioned it didn't bother her. I informed the front desk and they still removed the daily fee on the room, which saved me about close to $100 for our stay. The room itself aside from the roof issue was amazing. A great city view, spacious California king size bed. The bathroom was glorious I tell you, marble a huge mirror, bath and shower and very spacious! The room was very modern and sleek! Throughout outstay the services were exceptional and the staff was friendly. I wouldn't mind staying at this location again if I'm back in town.

Yelp
We are staying here right now and the stay started off great, that was until we went to drink water. One of the two water bottles provided had mud/dirt dried onto it. This is not the service you expect from a '5 star' hotel. To the hotel: Please ensure your guests are provided safe and clean amenities.

Yelp
My stay could've been better and honestly had very high expectations for this hotel. First, I was very happy and pleased that they were able to accommodate my last-minute change to upgrade my room from a standard room to the Luxury Corner King room, which we absolutely loved the room and the views. We also were very appreciative that we were able to check-in at 2:00 PM instead of 3:00 PM as we had just traveled from Virginia Beach, VA by Amtrak and it was our first time in DC (this was a surprise birthday weekend trip). The woman that helped us check-in was very very nice and the check-in process was less than 15 minutes, she gave us 2 complimentary drink tickets to use at the bar which also made us really love the experience so far. What was not a pleasant experience and was very upsetting and disappointing was the following:1.We went to go get ice on our floor, but the ice machine was out of order. We called down to the front desk to see if there were other ice machines and were told no, that they are on other floors. We were then told that someone would bring ice to our door shortly...nobody ever came nor did we ever get a call about the ice. We tried to use our key to get to a different floor to use their ice machine but it was not working. We were also on a time crunch/schedule to go see some museums/monuments (as some require timed-entry tickets) so we never did call back about the ice. We returned hours later and finally, our key let us go up to a different floor to retrieve ice. I don't think guests should have to be going to different floors to get ice. 2.There was no ice bag in the ice bucket, which is a health and sanitation issue, as putting the ice inside a bucket without a bag can make it dirty and you can get sick from this. Other hotels that are not "5-star" rated always have ice bags, so this was very disappointing. We ended up using the disposable shower cap as a bag to put it in the bucket. 3. One reason we picked this hotel was that there was a concierge service offered, which we were going to use to get information about the monuments, museums, and restaurants as this was our first time in DC and only there for a weekend. We walked down to the front desk and spoke to the same woman that helped us check-in to inquire about how to get tickets to the United States Holocaust Museum (tickets were almost impossible to get/booked in advance) and we thought maybe the hotel had a select number reserved. She told us that the concierge service is unavailable/suspended and that she would talk to her manager and call us to let us know what they could do. She took my last name and our room number and we went up to our room...we never did receive a phone call, and at that point, it was already too late and we headed to bed. Their website does not state that the concierge service is temporarily closed, yet there are other items on the website that do say temporarily closed. 4. Our bed was completely missing a fitted sheet and we essentially slept on top of the bare mattress. The bed only had the top sheet and the comforter, and we can see the mattress pad that was on top of the actual mattress (which also was very very dirty), and that upset us a lot as we just have traveled all day, had things to do once we got checked-in, and then were about to lay down for bed. 5. The bathroom was amazing, the separate tub and shower are what sold us to getting the Luxury Corner King room, but, there was an issue with our shower. The walk-in shower was missing the rubber sealant on the bottom of the door, so whenever you took a shower, the water got all over the floor and basically flooded the bathroom. 6. We ordered in-room breakfast dining on Saturday, July 16th. I ordered the Opaline Breakfast with poached eggs, pork sausage, and my partner ordered the Croque Madame. My partner's food was delicious, he licked the whole plate. Mine on the other hand was not. My eggs were basically hard-boiled, the pork sausage was undercooked/raw, and I did not receive my croissant. At this point, with all the other things going wrong with our stay, I just did not eat it and kept my mouth shut. 7. We were leaving DC Sunday, July 17th so for a quick breakfast we decided to try the in-room dining again, but this time both of us got the Croque Madame as it was delicious the day before. We received it, my partner said his was even better that morning than yesterday, but mine was soggy and the bread on the bottom was completely disintegrated. I had given up at this point and just ate the ham in the middle and the fries (super good surprisingly!), very disappointed in this. Overall the stay was not great/OK. I really expected a better experience, as I was highly recommended this hotel by others. Our stay failed to live up to the "5-star" rating and the "one-of-a-kind-stay" from their website. It's upsetting how much we paid for a room yet we did not receive the experience and service that should have come with it.

Yelp
Our experience was so disappointing for a so called "luxury" hotel, I've stayed at nicer Hampton Inns. We had just one night out without the kids and by the time we got back to our room and ready for bed we found that our bed was missing the top flat sheet. The concierge was so unhelpful over the phone that I trekked down do the front desk to get the flat sheet then back to room to make our own bed. After that debacle it was time to wash my face, to which I found no hot water. Then to top it all off the HVAC was so loud it kept my up through the night. They waived our amenity fee of a whole $38. Thanks for that.... Would have appreciated to only pay $99 for our stay vice the $500+ because our stay was only worth $99.....

Yelp
The location is great but the restaurant is geared to non patrons. I couldn't sit in the outside patio while waiting for my Uber eats. Always reserved for non guest of the hotel. Patio is empty but they won't even let me wait for my Uber eats!

Yelp
I had such a wonderful experience in Sofitel in Xian, China , great buffet, beautiful modern hotel that all I ever dream about was their buffet food. When I called Accor to book directly their rate was higher than hotel.com n there was a language barrier I didn't like so I went back to hotels.com I was told the buffet cost $35 pp a day so I skipped it I figured I might have the buffet every other day. When I got to the hotel I was shocked there was no buffet at all, furthermore the bar looked dark n not very interesting, the restaurant menu was limited n didn't have anything I could eat. Without the buffet there was nothing to eat, no fast food anywhere near Lafayette square near the White House, this area must be for millionaires, there was a seafood restaurant but the yelp review mentioned $100 to $200 pp to eat there!! Ouch! Not for me! It was scorching hot in DC, I was dripped in sweat all day, 97F but felt like 120f, I came home expecting to jump into the pool ‍ I was so so disappointed there was no pool! I'm a globetrotter n every 4 stars hotel n over had a pool in every 3rd world country how can Wash DC, the capital, hot as an oven have no pool?? I'm going to nyc soon n was shocked to find out the Sofitel nyc has no pool either. Wazzup with that? It's s big item, so for not having a pool Sofitel should have given free WiFi instead of charging $20 service fee!!!! A day. Well, otherwise I love the toiletries by Lanvin, it made my hair silky soft. I rated the Sofitel in Xian 5 stars but here I can't go higher than 3 stars.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel. Very accommodating staff. Enjoyed breakfast and dinner on our last day. Breakfast was delicious and as the name implies- Opulent! I enjoyed a rich Croque Madame. I really loved the French press coffee served in individual presses and the server was good about checking on us. In the evening, it was a wet night and after much walking and completing 5 k in the morning - we stayed in and had dinner and drinks in the hotel restaurant. We both had the very buttery and delicious French Onion soup with sides of crusty bread. Followed by juicy and flavorful Steak poivre... all and all a great meal. Again the service at night was good. Our server was attentive. Can't wait to come back again soon.

Yelp
Pros: location, room size, temperature checks, look of the hotel! Cons: the refrigerator had old food in it when we checked in, did not work, they didn't replace our towels once (5 night stay) (they said they would), the bed only had a duvet and no sheets, extremely loud air conditioner, and they allow homeless people to wander the front dining area! They made it quite uncomfortable and less than safe to dine there - so we didn't. Hopefully next time will be better.

Yelp
Great door staff. This is the most quiet room we have found. You knew people were here but walls, halls, and the entire environment was very quiet. Best European style hotel we have stayed in while in DC.

Yelp
The hotel itself was great. Clean room, reasonable price, friendly staff... My issue is that I valeted my manual transmission car and it was returned with the worst burnt and smoking transmission I have ever seen. My car has wreaked for 3 days, it was so bad. The valet clearly did not know how to drive a manual transmission. Instead of contacting me and having me drive my own car, decided to risk destroying my car. She drove into the alley beside the building and couldn't even put it in reverse to back out to the street.... it would have been comical if I hadn't of been so angry. Then she handed the keys to my girlfriend and ran off... I contacted the general manager via the website, and they have not responded.

Yelp
Stayed at the hotel for my ten year anniversary. Bartenders are amazing and made us feel like family. Ask for Chris and Marlos.

Yelp
It would great update everyone to say Hey everything was resolved and they owned liability for my vehicle. NOT! To catch up everyone I recieve a bill from enterprise and Ace Parking who is operating the lot for Sofitel has denied paying my entire cost of rental. Maybe I just have high expectation but I called them matter-of-factly like hey guys I'm sure this is a mistake.....well to my surprise I am out of $284 dollars to pay enterprise. No they didn't pay the cost, yes they are extremely rude. To top everything off I called and emailed the manager at Sofitel to say hey we really didn't have a great experience could you possibly make this up to us, no response. Then when they did respond they offered and upgrade only If I purchase a room, sorry we won't be back. I'm not big a person who practices give me free stuff when your wrong but It just seemed like the right thing to do SOFITEL you get a BIG Fat F

Yelp
It's true; there's no lobby shop for sundries or snacks, and the rooms do not have a fridge with space for your drinks or leftovers. Still, I really enjoyed the room, and room service at this Sofitel. Also, the location was City center perfect. It's a French hotel. Order the French onion soup or creme broulee, and know you can't go wrong with the cesar salad or mac and cheese.

Yelp
Bottom line: excellent food, very nice rooms, very close to many landmarks in DC, but very expensive. I had the opportunity to stay here in June 2018. It was a fantastic experience, very centrally located, excellent amenities, and fantastic food. Staff were nice, professional, and knew what they were doing. Aside from the exorbitant price for the room, I think it was a good value and a great way to explore Washington DC.

Yelp
Absolutely adored this hotel. Excellent location and friendly staff. The hotel itself is beautiful. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
OUTSTANDING!! The staff are so darn nice, from the valet guys to the maids and everyone in between. Just a great, comfortable, classy hotel. We loved it and would recommend it to anyone. The location is great as well. Bravo Sofitel staff!

Yelp
Location, location, location. This is one of the most convenient hotels I've ever stayed at. Literally around the corner from the White House and a 15 minute walk to almost everything else you want to see or do. Take a cab and you are anywhere in the core of DC in 10 minutes. Now for the hotel. Well payed out and easy to use. Secure elevator to your floor. Resturant serving three meals a day with excellent food. This is a French hotel and they try to maintain high standards. The rooms are well laid out, appointed with quality linens, furniture and toiletries. I would go back and stay here in a heart beat.

Yelp
Room had cigarette and mold smell. Cleanliness was lacking and they tried to charge me for 2 rooms by trying to double book me, had to go through a long dispute and investigative process to get the charges reviewed. Hotel stay should not be this time costly. Do not recommend and do not plan on returning here.

Yelp
My girlfriend and I stayed here Saturday night and really enjoyed our stay. For $200 (including taxes) I thought it was a bargain given the location and how nice the hotel is. They offer valet parking which was fairly fast (15 minutes to get our car) when we checked out. The room was very attractive and the mini bar was great. Granted, the nips of high end alcohol are $13 so its not cheap but it rivals what you'll pay in most restaurants in DC. The location is fantastic as it's about 2 blocks from the White House and just steps to Joe's Stone Crab and Old Ebbitt for delicious food and drinks. The front desk staff was professional and the hotel itself is very nice. I'd definitely return.

Yelp
Wanting to stay as close as possible to the White House and vicinity, I chose this hotel upon reading the great reviews and comparing it to other establishments in the area. Also, this review is long overdue. My stay here was around November 2015. Let's start off with the check-in process: smooth and easy. The lady who attended us was extremely friendly and accommodating. The room was clean and I loved the separate tub and shower in the bathroom. Location: central to everything in the D.C. area and there is a coffee shop adjacent to the hotel. My mom and I ordered room service (breakfast) and it was brought up to our room with everything we could possibly want. There are plenty of restaurants, bars, and other shops across the street from the Sofitel as well. I would stay here again!

Cynthia was amazing and so was Alicia They went above and beyond!!! The room was perfectly located to the White House Best location in DC

Yelp
Wow! This hotel really raises the bar for my expectation of five star hotels. Our stay was undeniably first class. The small details that stand out to me are the signature fragrances in the lobby. This hotel literally has its own fragrance. They found a way to bottle up first class customer service and a five-star hotel feel. This hotel was absolutely beautiful. Our room was Worth the 200+ dollars that we spent on it per night. If you're going to stay in DC you need to stay at Sofitel. We were within walking distance of the White House and all of the scenic things you would want to do while in Washington DC. The concierge was very clear in the directions provided to us and we got our trip started off right. The bar downstairs is also very pretty and filled with a competent staff. If you're into toiletries when you travel you won't be disappointed with their custom Bvlgari designer brand of soaps and conditioners etc.If you're anything like us when you're out of town you probably only spend 25% of the time in the hotel room. Unfortunately, I wish that we had stayed in the hotel longer just because it was that comfortable and stunning. Down to the crown molding in the ceiling this place is very decadent and fit for royalty. Now when I travel out of state or out of country I immediately look for Sofitel location. I believe their hotels are even better than the curio by Hilton.

Yelp
I loved staying here! It's SUPER close to the Mcpherson Metro station and the White House. We came for vday and originally planned on staying for 3 nights. Due to the snowstorm our flights were cancelled and we had to stay another night. When we spoke to the concierge they gave us a "deal" and gave us the same price we paid per night for the extra night. That kind of sucked because we could have paid a lot less if we moved to another hotel. At that point we were settled into our room so it was easier to stay put. It would have been nice to get a little something because after 4 nights our bill was pretty high.. Overall it was a beautiful hotel. Our room was great and service was awesome. The doormen were funny and always talked to us and were super helpful. The manager was also very nice and we had a few run ins with him. The room was clean and our soap/towels were refreshed everyday. We got to the hotel super early (10:30am) and didn't expect our room to be ready but it was! Also the bathroom had a separate shower and tub which was great (and unexpected). The water pressure was perfect :). We didn't try out breakfast because the menu seemed wayy too pricey for a hotel. The gym was small but cute/clean. Free headphones too! Wifi was a bummer. 24 hours free but then they make you pay. For the price per night...free wifi should definitely be included.

Yelp
From the first "bonjour" to the departing "au revoir", Sofitel provides a luxurious experience. Located a few short blocks from the White House, it is a convenient location for sightseeing, dining, and shopping. Recently renovated, the room that I stayed in was comfortable and roomy. The leather desk was large enough to accommodate laptops and other work tools and there were plenty of plugs throughout the room for all our devices. I loved the bathroom with the extra-large sink and the rainfall shower head. I felt that the front desk, as well as the other staff, provided a warm welcome and attended to my requests promptly and graciously. The wonderful person who checked me in addressed me by name throughout the visit. What a great memory! One other note, I appreciate that I could check in to the hotel online, prior to my arrival. It made the check-in process infinitely less painful. This accommodates travelers who have been up before dawn and dealing with frustrating airlines and any other manner of travel indignities. I am glad to see the industry move in this direction.
