The 18 Best Ice Cream Spots In London

"This Boxpark Shoreditch spot has some mildly insane, sugar-loaded candy floss toppings on offer. But we prefer to keep things on the simple—and cheaper—side with the classic cone and matcha soft serve. This place also does freakshakes that, frankly, we’re not sure how you eat without a blowtorch and a machete. But they’re worth keeping in mind if you’re a serious sugar fan." - heidi lauth beasley, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, daisy meager

The Best Hot Chocolates In London

"Why We Rate It: For the alternative matcha flavour The irony of getting a hot chocolate from an ice cream specialist isn’t lost on us, but Soft Serve Society doesn’t do anything by halves. This Boxpark shop in Shoreditch has a selection of hot chocolates, which include actual melted chocolate, and the option of blowtorched marshmallow fluff (yes and yes). Our hot chocolate of choice is the matcha and white chocolate number, which has the perfect balance of bitter, earthy matcha, to sweet melted marshmallows. " - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

Google
Went for their soft serve in a cone as it comes with thoughtfully paired toppings for just a slight premium. The matcha soft serve was pretty special, the taste is not that strong of matcha but it is lightly fluffy and not that sweet. A bit airy in texture and a step above your standard fast food fare. The red bean was okay, could only minimally taste the Oreo crumbs but was a nice slight textural contrast. Mochi was dango which is pretty plain in flavour and a bit disappointing. There's also a bit of drizzle of a sweet and salty soy sauce, which is typical with mitarashi dango - yummy. Overall pretty tasty! Their soft serve alone is pretty expensive and maybe not worth just a plain cup. I would be interested in checking out their baked goods and waffles (with a different flavour of ice cream perhaps). They have big New York style cookies (matcha flavoured too of course!) and even those viral cookie crossaints.

Google
They do very nice soft serve. I tried berry sauce with meringue this day, and it made me want to come back to try all others again. They do hot drinks as well, which is very nice to have with ice cream. Waffles were also nice. Cake toasted with chocolate and peanut butter sauce. You can add ice cream on it as well.

Google
This place closes quite late so it's perfect for a quick dessert after dinner in the area. I got the matcha madness soft serve sundae cup. A little expensive but decently sized. It tasted more of Oreo than matcha. Really enjoyed the addition of mochi balls!

Google
Brownie and ice cream combo was top tier 😍😮‍💨would also recommend the choco affogato, such a nice selection of sweet treats to choose from will definitely be back for the coconut charcoal which was out of stock :(

Google
The chocolate affogato ice cream is a MUST. It’s super delicious, I licked it all up! As for the BOBA… AVOID. I gave the general review 3 stars because the Boba was that BAD, as a frequent boba drinker this did not taste like real boba at all and was very sour. The ice cream however was worth the money 👏💞

Google
Cute place for milkshakes, unique ice cream creations and more. We popped in after dinner to check it out. I ordered a boring cone vanilla/vegan pandan one. Ice cream is silky smooth not too sugary sweet. Appreciate the vegan choice. It melted a bit quicker then i expected, maybe i am just too slow. Next time i ll go with just the pandan.

Google
One of the best best ice creams everrr😋 It’s very yummy and creamy I have had the Matcha ice cream with a waffle and the taste was extremely delicious. I think it was a bit heavy so next times I’ll be ordering the Matcha ice cream alone. Definitely worth trying and the staff were very professional. I’ve tried their hot chocolate too but I would give it 3/5. But overall the ice cream was extremely delicious.

Google
One of my favourite dessert places to stop by especially after work. Love the chocolate affogato. There are two benches to sit on inside if you want to sit in. The lady who served me was patient and friendly.

Yelp
Stopped by here on a whim after dinner. Service was quick and staff was polite. This area has a lot of businesses in what looks like renovated storage spaces so, take out only. Most importantly the soft serve was excellent. I had the "Oh Snap" and it made the walk back to the hotel all the more enjoyable.

Yelp
A few of us stopped by after dinner for dessert, at the recommendation of a colleague and this place didn't disappoint. Cute and cozy little shop with delicious sweets and combinations to satisfy just about any craving. Definitely worth the stop if you're visiting London - I do recommend.

Yelp
I wish soft serve got more love in the US. This place was really good! I got what was an apple crumble basically with vanilla soft serve and it was very good. If I had more time, I would have come back again to try other flavor combos.

Yelp
Who can fight the temptation of a sweet & swirly dollop of soft serve ice cream after being bombarded by dozens of Instagram posts lauding its unique flavors and gorgeous presentation? Clearly, I was caught in their web, too, because I came out all the way to Shoreditch in the middle of a heatwave just to try it. I'm kinda glad I did. The menu offers plenty of sugary treats to satisfy that sweet tooth, from fresh-baked waffle sundaes to sugar-bomb shakes loaded with colorful ingredients. Surprisingly, the soft serve menu itself is limited to 3 or 4 flavors- at this particularlocation, anyway. While their exotic ingredients and impressive array of toppings make them pretty enticing, I would have expected a bigger selection for the picky customers. I was perfectly happy with my Charcoal Coconut soft serve on a black charcoal cone, which had the right amount of sweetness to creaminess ratio. I'm not much of a green tea lover, but their Matcha soft serve on a black cone seemed to be the customer favorite during my visit. If your taste buds can handle a little bit more, I would highly recommend the affogato cups with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, 2 shots of espresso, and your choice of sauce and toppings. At an extra cost, of course. The added benefit you'll find to this particular shop is that, if for whatever reason you end up hating your treat, they have several other soft serve and dessert shops just a few doors down that are bound to have something you like. Either way, you can't lose.

Yelp
Queue was super long so had to wait for like 20 minutes, only to be served the most expensive soft serve I've ever had - overpriced, small portion, and tasted fine but nothing special.

Yelp
drop the mic. brownie sundae seemed boring but was the standout. brownie individually baked. matcha tea and taro soft serves were delish. love it

Yelp
Came in after smelling the waffles while walking down Spitafields, and we both got the affogato! The charcoal soft serve was good but did not blow my mind. The affogato was bold and strong and I liked the little cookie they give you! Definetly will try the waffle or brownie mix next time. They also do milkshakes and bubble tea!

Patrice P.

Yelp
Not only did my drink taste terrible but when I went up and asked them to either exchange or refund me they said there was nothing they could do. I told them that I asked if the drink was a lemonade and she said yes. What I got was horrible tasting rasp and bland tasting tonic water. There was no lemon flavour at all. I'm very disappointed in the customer service of this place. Do not buy from here they are plenty of better shops around.

Yelp
2 Staff hide in the back wasn't able to be served. Strange ! Hope to try some day but not today.

Yelp
I've been to the shop in Victoria Market and in Shoreditch, and they're both great! I tried the matcha soft serve and the charcoal soft serve. The matcha flavour was delicious; it was creamy with just the right amount of sweetness, and not an overpowering matcha flavour. The charcoal flavpur was...interesting. I didn't really get a unique flavour other than vanilla; the colour made it intruiging. It's a good summer treat, and both locations are around other food options, so it's a great place to go for a post-meal dessert!

Yelp
Tiny shop, cute decor, excellent instagrammability. But soft serve too sweet and the caliber of the matcha is nothing nearly as good as MatchaLove, Nana's (Hawaii), or Matcha Maiko. They also offer donuts with fun toppings but didn't order because it looked a little gimmicky.

Yelp
Looooooved it! Excellent flavours, very light, yet delicious! The interior is fun to be in and inspirational. The only reason I am not putting 5 stars is the service as the sales assistant wouldn't explain to us what they had after we asked for two things that we were then informed were not available. Would just wait for us to guess.. Still, keeping the good part of the experience with me!

Yelp
As always, I found this place from Instagram and like most of the places that I review, I went here because of how instagrammable the soft serves are. I got a vanilla ice cream with the torched marshmallow topping and a black cone, which I thought was really neat. The little place was a little toastie, but I was getting it to-go so I didn't mind. It was a little hard to find because all the stores looked the same, so I was thankful for the sign. So, I LOVED IT. The marshmallow was a little big, but that's not something to complain about. Next time, I would love to try caramel popcorns for toppings. Definitely coming back!

Yelp
We discovered this place on Instagram, and were instantly attracted to how perfect the swirls looked and decided this place had to be a stop on our London trip. True to their Instagram pictures, the soft serve we got here was perfectly swirled and delicious. The vanilla flavored soft serve is very milky in taste, and a lot lighter in terms of richness and more balanced with its sweetness. I'm fairly picky when it comes to soft serve and hate overly sweet and melty soft serve ice cream, so I was super happy to have found something that matched my tastes. I personally really enjoy just plain soft serve, and would probably get just that (no additional toppings) if I were back in the area again. I highly recommend Soft Serve Society as a nice afternoon treat or after-meal dessert at Boxpark.

Yelp
This place serves a variety of unique flavored soft serves, and their charcoal coconut flavor has caught my attention as I'm a big coconut lover! After trying it, I would say that it had more of a charcoal taste than coconut. I ordered it on a hot day, and it melts quickly, so there's not much time for me to take good photo of it. The portion is small as well, as the soft serve is served on a smaller cup fitted into the bigger cup, which gives me an illusion that the portion is huge. Be aware that the line will be very long and the shop is very narrow and small, hence the waiting experience is super squeez-y and packed. (Just a rant: During the wait, I've got 3 person who stepped on my white shoe because the lack of space to move around)

Yelp
Love it, love it, love it! The boxpark is only there for a year. It is a small place. The place is small and cosy and very busy (possibly just the hype of these matcha craziness??). On the menu it's the normal cone or cup ice-cream (£3.50), sundae (£4.50) and crazy combination of shakes. I say crazy because the toppings on that shake is overflowing, over-decorated and over the top! Thats the crazy thing and I want a picture of it! I might just indulge myself if anyone of you want to share? So, I just went for the normal cone ice-cream. You can pick between a mixture of vanilla and matcha or just plain matcha. I went full on for proper matcha greeness! The matcha ice-cream is great. A hint of condensed milk but not too sweet and one can still taste of the matcha bitterness. My favourite is still Tombo but with standing strongly in second place with Kanada-ya.

Yelp
Such a great little place for ice cream. Their matcha madness is amazing and IMO better than Tsujiri (no small feat). I really like the little Pocky like biscuit stick and red bean dusting. Great freakshakes but not for the faint of heart as it's a LOT of dessert goodness for one person. Good reason to drag your OH along for after dinner treats though!

Yelp
The day has finally arrived. Soft serve ice cream has hit the streets of Shoreditch at Boxpark. I decided to visit the store as it is their opening week and they are offering a massive 50% off all ice creams :O (I couldn't believe my eyes). Where do I start...the soft serve Matcha Madness is off the chain, alongside the Espresso Yourself. The smooth and silkiness of each bite will have you wanting more and packed with flavour. Apart from the amazing ice cream the layout and design of the store is super contemporary, cute and oozing with a clean and simplistic, but creative feel (less is totally more in this case). There is a great seating bench to have a sit down whilst you enjoy your ice cream serving and fab photos opposite which will make you giggle. I would recommend this place to everyone whether you are visiting Shoreditch with friends, family or even your pet dog. I am so happy there is finally soft serve ice cream in Shoreditch and I cannot wait to get my next ice cream fix! If you do not fancy ice cream or would like something alongside it they also offer a great selection of fresh shakes, juices and teas. P.s The owners are super friendly and passionate about their soft service ice cream. Thank you for being so welcoming!

Yelp
Great little pop up in Box Park Shoreditch. It was a hot Sunday and after strolling thru brick lane I was in need of ice cream and when they ask they have matcha mixer with vanilla... I jumped at the chance.. A great taste that is not too sweet even with the vanilla combination. The cone was crunchy and the ice cream.. Thick and smooth.. Yum yum is all in going to say They do sundaes and other drinks bit I was only there for the soft serve and it didn't disappoint. I think my preference would still be the one from tombo... Actually I think I'm going to need a reminder lol... Who's up for trying more match ice cream???
google avatar

Chrystel K.

Yelp
Really fun twist on the standard soft serve. They add different and fun toppings on the ice cream which makes the whole dessert great to look at but ofcourse delicious to eat. The soft serve itself tastes smooth and creamy. Would recommend to follow them on Instagram to keep up with all the great twists they add to the menu.
google avatar

Seo Young M.

Yelp
It's not just the visual attractiveness of the ice creama, but also the taste! Not disappointing at all even until the last bite of the cone!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent flavours, and very good presentation. Coconut charcoal is the best! Will try out their freak shakes next time.

Yelp
too sweet for me :-I but it looks cute. Maybe I will try the grey one next time, I think it will be better.
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
I would not recommend this dessert location. It was kind of a letdown - average dessert so I'd recommend going somewhere else. I also consider it a little pricey for the amount of food you get.
google avatar

Jonathan G.

Yelp
What better to have on a freezing day in winter than ice cream. I opted for a swirl of green tea and black sesame in a cone. I'm afraid the black sesame was a bit too risque for me, but that's just because I'm a typical American with unadventurous tastes and a propensity towards voting for idiot reality stars. I would definitely go back if only to try some of the other flavors.

Susana R.

Yelp
Totally disappointed by the serving size. They put a small cup with the soft serve inside or a larger one so it looks like its huge but it is not- I don't know if they always do that but it just creates unnecessary waste. I had the matcha soft serve and it was good, but nothing crazy for the price I paid.
google avatar

Steve P.

Yelp
The best freakshakes in London. Yes, I called it. Until I find somewhere that tops this place, they have the crown! I'm a huge milkshake buff, and have very high standards. Being a freakshake makes these standards even harder to achieve: very thick, frozen texture, real tasting flavours, and large portions. This place achieves this, all the while being able to top the delicious shakes with cakes, cookies, muffins, caramel corn, pretzels, chocolates, sprinkles, and even freshly roasted marshmallows. I've tried the peanut butter (my favourite), the chocolate and the matcha (Also my favourite for uniqueness). Oh, and the staff are incredibly nice and passionate about what they do! Also, bare in mind this is in Boxpark, so space is a luxury. Just go visit this place, you won't regret it.
google avatar

Jen B.

Yelp
The small was so tiny I think I had less than eight spoonfuls of ice cream and for such a high cost. The cup she served it in was half empty. They could and should have added much more ice cream to the cup! It was smooth and creamy soft serve. Of what I could find, the charcoal coconut was delicious as well as the matcha. Just fill the cup!
google avatar

Sam C.

Yelp
Sweet but small but very tasty! Great selection of flavours and makes a great Instagram potential! Prices are quite steep but you get what you pay for! If you want Ice cream come here!
google avatar

Leila M.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this great shop today and will definitely be back! I asked them to mix the matcha and charcoal flavors and they made it into a nice swirl for me! Delicious ice cream and quality ingredients don't leave you feeling heavy afterwards. Worth the calories! The cone is light and tasty too!
google avatar

Meng L.

Yelp
I'm a bit biased because I've always loved matcha, but their matcha madness is the most delicious matcha ice cream I've ever had. The flavor of the matcha really shines through the sundae and I love the addition of the red bean paste, rice cakes and the Pocky that comes along. Love the creaminess of the soft serve and love the creativity of the combinations that this place offers. I've also tried where's my honey which is sweet vanilla, granola, and honey heaven. There's so many options for toppings that you can let your imagination go wild with possible combinations. Can't get enough of this place.
