The city’s go-to for Sichuan dishes, Sohao leans into bold ma la flavors—think Chongqing chicken, dan dan noodles, and mapo tofu—served family‑style. Verified active via its official menu and recent critic‑style reviews from locals.

Beautiful interior, good service, decent food. The spicy chili wontons appetizer and spicy stir fried squids were delicious, recommended. The salt pepper soft shelf crabs were a bit salty. The roasted duck doesn't seem fresh, a bit dry.

Don't sleep on Sohao! One of the consistently best restaurants in GV in regard to food quality and service. The menu is quite large, there aren't many descriptions, and some of the dishes are atypical for restaurants in the area, but the staff is very well trained and can answer your questions and offer suggestions. So thankful we found this gem! Recommendation - Szechuan eggplant /chef's kiss/.

My family and I went here for dinner Friday 7/18/25 and the food was phenomenal, it had great flavor and was fresh. It did take 10 minutes for a waitress to come by and take our order but they were relatively busy.

Google
Had some good experiences here early on but over the past few months the service has steadily declined. The food is still good. But the wait times are absurd and they bring one plate to the table as it's done rather than bring the entire tables order at once. I don't know if the good food is worth enduring the truly terrible service. The waitress even told us that we can request that the whole tables order be brought at once but they can't guarantee it... Lol. This is not an area in which to innovate. I definitely am done with this place.

Google
Yummy food and great service! We went there twice. First time we had Dan Dan noddle (everyone's favorite), pork fried rice, pork and bean curd. Second time we had Dan Dan noodles, shrimp fried rice, and Chongqing chicken. Everything was delicious.

Google
So disappointed in the food. It was not flavorful & packed with soooo much oil. I opted for the hot spicy ginger and garlic chicken and the stir fried cabbage. Extra spicy on the chicken. Both were pretty bland and swimming in oil. Not sure I’d try food here again when I’m in town. Service was prompt though. $32 of not so great food.

Sohao Cafe has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in Gainesville. Their extensive menu offers a variety of delicious dishes. My partner and I now have a list of our go-to items, and we like to try at least one new dish every time we go. The staff is always kind, attentive, and extremely accommodating when it comes to my powerchair (they've always been welcoming and seated me wherever is most comfortable for me.) The atmosphere is casual but can easily be a nice date spot. I have brought friends and family alike and have never been disappointed. Their portions are large and eating family-style is definitely encouraged. I highly recommend stopping in! Recommendations: Boss Chili Chicken, Salted egg yolk fried eggplant, Sichuan chili wantons, takoyaki, Dan Dan noodles, garlic eggplant, a pot of Jasmine tea to share, and their sweet ginger tea.

Google
Incredible, authentic Szechuan. Easily the best in town if you like real Asian food. If you plan to just get teriyaki chicken or pad Thai, don’t go here, there’s cheaper places that specialize in American Chinese food. Also, this place shines in family-style serving situations. Go in with 4-6 people and everyone order an entree, veggie or appetizer. You’re guaranteed to end up with more food than you know what to do with, but everyone goes home with leftovers. Win-win! The lunch specials are great too. Incredible chefs and very kind, knowledgeable servers who are always happy to explain dishes or provide guidance.

Yelp
Sohao Street Fare Café - Second Visit Went back to Sohao Cafe for lunch--second time around because I felt like I needed to give it another shot. Plus, someone recommended I try the Spicy Ginger Garlic Beef, and said it was amazing. Right off: Quick service. Fresh feel. Relaxed vibe. Started with the spring roll: as my Latino-American tradition goes, I need a little crunch and fried to start. Crispy outside, soft and tasty inside. Thank you! Now back to the main dish, this was either going to be a total prank or a flavor win. It was very good. Warning: it packs heat. Like, makes-you-sweat-a-bit heat. But it's worth it. The veggies were tender-crisp combo, and the beef was super tender, so full of flavor. I appreciated the carved veggie decor. Honestly, The previous visit left me wondering if I had caught an off. This time, they delivered.

Yelp
The food here is delicious and comes out piping hot! I have had their noodle dishes in the past which were always tasty, but today we went with some chicken rice bowls and both were good also! The prices are a little high but nothing crazy. There was a bit of a wait to get seated as it was very crowded, and the food took a while to come out but you could tell it was fresh. The ambiance is nice with some decorations around, but can get pretty loud. Overall a pretty good restaurant!

Yelp
Authentic schezwan food at affordable prices with great service. We came on a weekday evening with a party of 7 and were quickly seated. Ordered Scallion Pancakes, General Tao's Tofu, Spicy Cumin lamb bao, chongqing chili fish filet, bang bang noodles veg, bang bang noodles chicken, zha jiang vegetables, dry pepper eggplant. Scallion pancakes were light, airy, crispy must order! Chongqing chili fish and dry pepper eggplant had similar flavor profiles but both delicious, fried crispy with salty and mildly spicy savory goodness. Bang bang noodles were peanuty and creamy (if peanut is to your liking) while zha jiang was more dark soy savory - both had the same noodles. They gave lots of vegetables with the veg options. Clean and modern.

Yelp
This place has great authentic Chinese food! I tried the double cooked pork, pork intestines in a dry wok, stir fried snow peas with garlic, butter chicken, and pickled bokchoy fish. Everything was very good! The customer service was also good and the decorations around the restaurant looked cool! I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Good eats! Don't expect to get orange chicken and mall Chinese food, this is sichuan mala and other authentic food with an upscale casual feel. Love the painted Chinese Opera Masks decorating the dining room. Greeted and seated in the booth with a bottle of water. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was wonderful. We started with the Spicy Chili Wontons that had good meat filling and chili oil. The Grandma Braised Pork Belly was sumptuous for those seeking non-spicy option with wood ear, fried tofu, bamboo shoot, mushroom slices, potato and braised sauce that pairs well with rice. The Spicy Fish Fillet with silken tofu, salt pepper and chili sauce was excellent. Definitely will be back to try something else on the menu. Enjoy!!

Yelp
We have been coming to SoHao for over 5 years now averaging once every 3 months. And not once have we been disappointed. Food is truly delicious and flavorful. We have tried several - both the spicy to mild to no spice. All good. Pork, chicken, fish, beef , lamb. My grandson likes the takoyaki among other things. I recommend the soft shell crab with salt and pepper. But this place has a thick menu book and you can't go wrong with any. Just be adventurous! Even the veggies. Water spinach and eggplant stand out. Service is excellent - top notch. Wei gives great suggestions but we have not been lucky to be in her assigned table the last few times. This last time we had Ceci (Hua Qing in Chinese) and she was very good too. Great suggestion with the Mao Cai with lamb. Huge serving good for at least 3 to 4 adults. Ambiance is definitely casual. Not very loud even if the place is full. Totally recommending this place. Even if you're just passing thru Gainesville, stop by for lunch or dinner. Not more than 10 minutes from the exits off 75. Definitely worth it.

Yelp
My family members love going here whenever they visit from Gainesville, so I tried it the first time with them before I was leaving to go back home back in 2023 and I loved it ever since!! Ming who remember me countless time whenever I visit Gainesville always give me the best service! I always asked if she is working just to say hello to her! The food there is absolutely amazing especially the bao buns they are so yummy !!!

Yelp
Sohao has moved its way to my #1 Chinese food place in town. I have never had a bad experience here, whether dining in or doing take out. The food tastes fresh and comes out very quickly. The restaurant itself is spacious and has many different seating options. We always have a polite and friendly server. We typically order the green beans, fish hot pot, and the dry noodles, which are all somewhat spicy. We order fried rices or lo mein as a non spicy option.

Yelp
This experience was great. We loved every item and the service was great. We came in for dinner on a Friday night and it was busy. Eventhough we ordered a soup and dumplings for appetizer we got our main dishes first. I guess their strategy is to send the food out as soon as it is ready so it doesnt sit there and get cold which is reasonable.

Yelp
This place has authentic Chinese food, but I do think some of their dishes were lacking in flavor. I've ordered takeout from Sohao a while back, but this time around, I ended up dining in with my friends. The service was great and the restaurant decor is fun and modern with all the painted Chinese opera masks. My party ended up ordering their salt and pepper pork ribs, lychee chicken, and the sweet and sour pork. The salt and pepper pork ribs were overcooked and lacked some of the flavors I've had in renditions of the same dish at other Canto restaurants in New York and south Florida. The lychee chicken ended up tasting very similarly to the sweet and sour pork, and both were overly sweet without any other flavors balancing it out. I feel like this place might be better for Sichuanese dishes. I'd probably give this place another try and order new menu items next time.

Yelp
Checking out this place has been on my bucket list and I finally got to try it. There are so many options you can choose from that we did not know what to order. Hence, we took recommendation from the server and ordered various foods (not all shown in the photo). Enjoyed the portion and taste of the food here and this is now my go-to Chinese restaurant in town. If you are in town, recommend checking it out!

Yelp
Great find in the Gainesville area! Food was yummy, good portions and good price, absolutely no complaints except that we had to wait but that just attests to how good it is. We got the dan dan noodles and the braised minced pork rice bowl. Both items were $12.95 each and each item could definitely have fed two people. The dan-dan noodles are tossed with Sichuan but it doesn't really have the Sichuan flavor, just a slight spiciness. Really great flavor and good amount of toppings. The braised minced pork was a generous portion of rice, pork and an egg. I really liked the fact that the minced pork was already mixed into the rice and that there was a good amount of pork. Sometimes, places will just put it on top and it ultimately ends up never being enough pork to rice ratio but since Sohao mixed it in, I had pork in every bite. Service was quick and efficient and the overall ambience was quite nice. A lovely aroma of well seasoned food permeated the air and it was brightly lit and well laid out. Great bang for your buck and delicious too. We got what are, arguably, basic dishes, and I think that if they can perform so splendidly for such simple dishes, their finer stuff should definitely be delightful.

Yelp
Generous portions, sturdy takeout boxes, though a tad on the salty and oily side. Beef Brisket was decent, with a slight tanginess? Dry Pot Spare Ribs: wish they could have more veggies Chicken over Rice: didn't quite resemble traditional one, but still tasty with plenty of mushrooms. Their rice bowl portions are huge and packed with veggies! White cut chicken: it comes with succulent chicken skin and a savory ginger-scallion sauce, albeit a bit salty. Overall, a hearty spot for a satisfying meal!

Yelp
tried the braised beef noodle soup and the egg drop soup on this visit and was quite disappointed. service is pretty fast and polite - vibes of the restaurant are decent, but wow, the beef portioning on the noodle stew SUCKS. i got like zero meat. additionally, it appears like they use spaghetti noodles?? like the noodles clearly did not absorb the flavor of the stew. bathroom was slightly dirty too but that's ok, was mainly disappointed with the food.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a gem of a restaurant in the area! The food is so good and the portions are massive for the price. Service is quick and easy and there's options for everyone on the menu! We got the boss tofu and I can't stop thinking about it.
google avatar

Yelp
I went to Sohao way back when they first opened but at that time, they only had a few street food options and were frequently out of stuff. Now, they've merged with Gator Suyaki and expanded their menu with more dinner-type options like you could get at Suyaki. The majority of the food is Sichuan, which I love, but isn't for everyone so be careful what you order. That said, I have found that their Sichuan dishes are a little milder than you might find elsewhere. My wife and I ordered the spicy veggie dumplings, shrimp bao, mapo tofu, and salt and pepper tofu. Every single thing we got was fantastic, though we both wished the salt and pepper tofu had a dipping sauce. The mapo tofu was so good, and was even better when I ate the leftovers the next day (see the photo). I felt like I got a lot of food for a great price. Sohao offers many dishes that you can't find at other Chinese spots in town, so if you're looking for something new (or just Sichuanese), give them a shot.

Yelp
This is probably the most authentic Chinese restaurant in Gainesville and it doesn't disappoint. It provides quality food and large portions to share with friends. I've become a creature of habit at the restaurant where I order the lotus root with chicken. The ginger tea is also amazing on colder winter days. This visit we tried a new dish with braised lamb in a hot pot. Purposely ordered it because of the pictures online where it had the lamb on the bone with all the cartilage. If you're kinda into that thing, it's a great dish and the sauce was amazing too a little bit spicy, but not too hot.

Yelp
The atmosphere was nice. Not too loud, not too quiet. It was busy but no wait. I was a party of 1 but they didn't make me wait until a small table was ready so they sat me in a 6 top. Then the wait happened. Servers were passing by helping all the tables but mine. It was clear I was a single diner, as there was only 1 setting. I waited and waited and eventually had to stop a server as they were passing. No apology or anything. Took my order and moved on. The food came out FAST. Almost too fast. It made me wonder how long ago they cooked the food. I got the braised pork belly rice bowl and egg drop soup. The dinner came before the soup. Dinner was ok. It was literally just rice with braised pork belly on top (and some scallions for decoration). The meat pieces were a little big so I had to cut them with the spoon I had. It had some flavor but the meat could have been braised longer to have some crispness to it. Serving size was good and I took home what I couldn't finish. I wasn't sure who to pay when I got the check (server or counter). When I asked the person clearing the tables she didn't speak English and just said wait and then went back to cleaning tables. I again had to stop the server to pay. It was good enough food for me to return so I'll give service another chance.

Yelp
OMG!!! They don't even have the sign lit up at night and we were not sure if this place was open for business!! !And they are and they are super busy inside. Our waitress was so helpful and knew it right away we were ordering things that we thought we knew but we didn't!!! So glad that she was paying attention to exactly what the customers are thinking of they are getting. We have had craving for mapo tofu for a while and it was a no brainer to make a beeline there asap we found out that they have that on the menu. Portions are huge like emperor's size and everything tasted so good!!! We had sizzling spicy chicken and squid as well which satisfied our souls!!! The wait can be long and painful so go there when you are ready and willing to wait a half of an hour:) Somethings in life are worth the wait:))

Yelp
First time to Sohao yesterday and it was great! The food, atmosphere, and service were fantastic! The food is shareable style. So between my husband and I we had braised pork bao buns for appetizer and to share we had the chongqing chili chicken and shrimp noodles. The bao bun was nice and soft and the pork was very tender and flavorful! The chicken was delicious and spicy and the shrimp noodles were well balanced with protein, noodles, and vegetables. The service was quick and effective! The ambiance is more of a casual vibe for a bite with family and friends.

Yelp
Still going back after several years of great food.worth trying the specials as they have been proven to be food from China that I have never had before and the variety of flavors and taste are so different from anything we have ever had, worth trying is the soft shell crab bao which is an awesome appetizer.the pork belly bag is also a treat.they also have several varieties of fried rice which are so much different then your run of the mill restaurnts.

Yelp
We had such a delightful and delicious experience!! This was our second time in and we will be back!! Upon walking in we were greeted and Sat immediately and the server was warm, sincere and efficient. He got right back to us and took our drink order and offered help with the menu. We were checked on often but he never hovered and we never felt like we needed anything because he was always two steps ahead Sesame balls-- this was our first time trying these and now I am hooked!! Little dough pillows warm and soft with a slight honey coating filled with slightly sweet bean paste -- LOVED!! Pan fried dumplings - these were filled with pork and were among some of the best I've ever had. Cooked to perfection with a great sauce - LOVED Spicy dumplings- Delicious and not too too hot- the heat came at the end- LOVED I had the pineapple-chicken fried rice. The portion size was generous and it was very flavorful. This was not a spicy dish. My son had the dry noodles with chicken and we were all quite shocked at what a creative and delicious meal it was. Like the dumplings they were not super hot but had a heat at the end. The peanuts were clever and delightful- noodles cooked to perfection!! Hubby had the Szechuan chicken and he loved it. I did not try it but he chowed it down so fast it was like he hadn't eaten in days!! Be sure to try the ginger iced tea. It was unique and very memorable!!

Yelp
The food tastes authentic and home cooked. The price is a little high for what you get but service was great and the store is nice and clean.
google avatar

Jack S.

Yelp
This was a nice find and really delicious. The dry noodles were the star of the show. Pick your protein, we got pork belly. It's not really dry, nor super spicy. There's sauce that you can mix up w the noodles when you get them. Roast duck bao buns were fantastic as were the chili dumplings. Braised beef noodle soup was similar to what I used to get at the trade fairs in China. Those noodles are crave worthy though. Too bad I don't live here anymore.

Yelp
I always love going to Sohao - it is always clean and the service is always sweet and attentive. I got the mala soup and it is absolutely fantastic. I have been going here for 3 years and it is my favorite restaurant in Gainesville. Could not recommend this place more!

Yelp
Fantastic food here! We had take out but it's so good. We ordered the Dan Dan noodles and had the spicy fish and it was like a taste of home. Would always recommend this place as I think it's the best authentic Chinese food in town

Yelp
Happy start of Asian Pacific Islander heritage month!! I have heard mixed reviews about Sohao but wanted to give it a try when my parents visited town. I was mind blown by the traditional Chinese entrees that were on the menu, and so were my Chinese parents. If you miss or want to try a glimpse of ethnic Asian food, definitely give Sohao a try. The menu is also translated into Chinese:) You must try the Dan Dan Noodles, they are a childhood favorite of mine and are made so deliciously here. There's bits of pork and peanuts sprinkled in the noodles, and a slight sweet and savory flavor. The Eggplant in garlic sauce had such a rich flavor, almost like a sweet and tangy taste. The Sichuan Spicy Boiled Beef has a spicy kick to it and tasted just as it should. Finally, the Pork intestine in Dry Wok was surprisingly very yummy, the chewiness of the pork balanced well with the added vegetables. My only complaint is that we waited around 40 minutes for our food, but I'd say it was worth it!

Yelp
I cannot explain how amazing and good this food tastes, eating this is a blessing from the gods. Workers are so kind and the manager is very friendly and understanding as well. Best Chinese food in Fl, so yummy and the vibes are great. The place has these cool paintings and designs, it's not small or big but a perfect medium size.
google avatar

Kalvin K.

Yelp
I have been meaning to stop here for a while now, I enjoy Sichuan cooking very much and have passed by this restaurant over the past few months. Thankfully I finally stopped by because the service and food at stellar. The tables are spaced well apart and feels spacious, which is not extremely common in Asian restaurants. I ordered the Sichuan wontons and the fish fillet in dry pot, both were amazing! They peanut sauce and spicy chili oil they serve with the wontons is a combination of sweet and spicy! Th dry pot fish was flavorful and had a bit of "ma-la" or mouth numbing through spice flavor. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Matt P.

Yelp
I came here with two friends after work and it wasn't too crowded so we immediately got a table. Our waitress was very friendly and made good suggestions from the menu since we had never been before. I ordered the sichuan chili wonton and the Huan pork belly. The portion sizes were large and they were bursting with authentic flavor. Warning, it was very spicy (well, for me at least, your average Caucasian). My friends ordered the eggplant in garlic sauce, soya tofu bao, spicy edamame, and the General Tao's tofu. Everyone enjoyed their meal with some lychee sake as well. Overall I was really impressed all around with the food, atmosphere, and service at Sahao, and I look forward to going back soon.

Yelp
Amazing food! Very authentic and so many choices! One of our favorite places in Gainesville! Sohao never disappoints! Dine in or take out and you will have a great meal.

Elaine M.

Yelp
To begin with I'm a native NYer, so I know Chinese food! It's located 2 miles off of I-75 in Gainesville which makes it a great way to break up your trip. I've eaten in a lot of Szechuan restaurants but this by far is THE best one I've been to. They can make any dish as spicy as you want. I would have added some photos but we scarfed everything so fast because it was that good. If you live in Gainesville and you haven't been here get right over here now!!! If you're driving on I-75 and need a delicious stop over, you will not be disappointed, I guarantee it! This place is fire!

Yelp
We were there yesterday. We go 1-2 times/month. Wife and I eat veg, aunt and her friend who eat all travel up from Ocala. This is the place she always wants to go to. Some notes - groups of 4 get tips added automatically. Yes, 4. Honestly, that annoys the bejeezus out of me. But they are not sneaky about it anymore - it is posted in various places. The service is generally slow - busy or not - but attentive and my aunt always has some unusual requests. Another expectation....it is not easy to make changes or requests. This is not a complaint nor compliment, just a statement of our experience. Each time, my aunt tries to order the same thing. Yesterday, they tried 4 times to get it right. Wife wanted Szechuan but wanted to try eggplant with this style....was not a simple task to explain. It took four tries. Wife has fish allergy (in addition to being veg). We get different answers each time we go about fish in the sauces. The food quality has not disappointed - it's been good. We have eaten Chinese food all over the world. I'm from northern Jersey. We have eaten in China, New York, London, Taiwan, etc. And this remains in the top 10 or so for taste. As someone mentioned above, the hot and sour shredded potato is solid. The Szechuan string beans (now my go-to and I'm not a big string bean fan) is very good. The scallion pancakes are very good! The food has been hot every time. There is almost always an extra bit to take home.

Angelwife H.

Yelp
1st time visit, passing thru town, but we will definitely make Sohao a regular stop! We have eaten Szechuan cuisine across the US, and this place ranks easily in top 3. Our standard dish we always get is Spicy Boiled Fish, and this one is so uniquely delicious, some subtle flavor we've never had in this dish. Soft delicate fish, just the right amount of veggies and broth, not overpowering on numb peppers as many places seem to do. We also took a chance on something we have never eaten before, based on another Yelper's tempting photo of Mongolian Beef. I customized it to my personal tastes and our server Jimmy was so kind and understanding. The chef did an amazing job and we both enjoyed the beef dish as well. Can't wait to return and try some of our other favorites as well as more new items as well. For us, that is enough because we come for the food. But this place takes it up another two notches with its attractive interior, comfortable booths, stylish music, and gorgeous dinnerware. Classy!

Yelp
I was first introduced to this restaurant by a friend who had it featured it for a takeout dinner. All of the variety of dishes, fish, eggplant, chicken, tofu, wonton, were so incredibly delicious that I KNEW I had to experience in person. Fast forward to dining in, and I was not disappointed. The spicy wontons are outstanding. They were indeed quite spicy but not blister-your-mouth hot. For dinner I opted for the Chonqing chili chicken with extra spice and friend rice. Superb. By far the best Asian fare in Gainesville. There are actually real pieces of chicken and they are fried to a crispy perfection. For me the only downside is that the service is quite slow, but that's par for the course in this climate so I excused it. Another plus is there are choices for every palate. Can't wait to try more!

Yelp
Amazing food!! We had several options, both vegetarian and non. Everything was well-flavored and portions were a good size. It gets busy quick, so be prepared to wait. Servers are attentive and very pleasant. Definitely worth a visit!!

Yelp
3.5 stars Was super excited to try out this place after looking at their menu. They seem to offer a lot of traditional dishes. I guess I was talking about it too much at home as my hubby surprised me with some takeout one day after work. He chose well and got the following: Hot and sour soup: very good! Nice spice level Sichuan chili wonton: Liked the wontons themselves a lot but they just came soaked in so much oil Mapo tofu: Tofu was tasty but the dish was swimming in oil. I had to dunk everything in water first. Spicy fish fillet with tofu: Again swimming in oil. Very similar taste to the mapo tofu, except had some added fish fillet. Will say that they were very generous with the amount of fish. Another time we ordered the following: Dan dan noodles: not swimming in oil but the minced meat is definitely cooked in a lot of oil, congeals when left at room temp. Hubby liked it a lot Chili cold chicken: again also drowning in oil. Despite how much chili it is sitting in, the chicken itself tasted rather bland. Pig intestine dry wok: was very pleasantly surprised to see that this wasn't swimming in oil. That being said, it was still pretty greasy on the outside but great flavor. Generous amount of meat in dish. In general, would like the dishes here a lot more if they didn't put so much oil in.

Yelp
I've lived and traveled in 44 states and this is real authentic Asian Food! I currently live a few hours from here by the beach but this place almost made me move here just cause of the food! I worked here for 2 weeks and almost ate here everyday!

Yelp
This is not a Chinese fast food place. What's up with the caption under the heading? This is instead a really delicious (with a few Americanized Chinese dishes) and more importantly to be commended with more in depth authentic dishes of great variety, and served in an appropriate roomy, beautiful ambience, sit down restaurant. This should be voted as central Florida's best Asian restaurant. The food was stunning and is definitely made for family style dining whereby two or three selections are made and the food shared among the table. Sohao has improved so much in consistency since its opening that it's a real culinary force to be reckoned with! Pictures below is the Spicy Grilled Lamb Dry Wok. Normally I would not like the flavor of cumin but this was so well balanced with a little sweet and a little salty flavor and when combined with a little crunch from the peanuts and bean sprouts and the lamb it transformed into something much greater than the sum of its parts. I was truly stunned by the mouth watering flavor's!

Yelp
I come to Sohao every time I'm in a mood for some amazing noodle soup. They used to have the laksa flavor that I used to have every single time. But they took it out of the menu, which is okay because it made me try other flavors and this time it was a mala flavor. Very spicy but oh so good!! I usually have it with the roast duck and the duck is out of this world delicious!!! Definitely recommend giving this place a try it has never disappointed. The waitresses are all very nice as well.

Yelp
Flavorful dishes and not too spicy. They were able to accommodate our request for less salt overall. Quick service. Nice ambiance for group dinners. Definitely recommend going in a group so you can try multiple dishes.

Yelp
Read the reviews on vegetarian options available so we decided to give it a try! Our waiter was super helpful and recommended some good picks. We got our usual Dan Dan Noodles without the pork and it was delicious! Absolutely loved the sauce quantity and spice level. The eggplant with garlic sauce was also pretty good! It was a little too sweet for me, will try out the Szechuan style eggplant next time. The dish that hit it real good was the curry tofu- our waiter had even recommended it to us. Not too spicy, super flavorful and the tofu was crispy/great consistency. We will definitely be back for other vegetarian options!

Yelp
It is difficult to go to Gainesville and not stop by Sohao. From the same owners as Gator Suyaki--- This fast-casual Szechuan inspired restaurant has some interesting and fusion snacks for almost every palette. The location has plenty of parking and is located next to one of the best bubble tea shops in Florida. I love the open interior and plentiful seating as well as the décor and murals. The murals are done by a local artist and art teacher that also teaches Chinese brush stroke painting. Of course, I also like the dishes here are more snack items and are in turn a lower cost option to some of the other restaurants in town. My favorite dishes to order here are: 1. Chicken, beef, and corn on the cob kabobs with mala cumin powder. 2. Wontons in hot chili oil. To me, this is their house special dish. 3. Ground pork over rice (lu rou fan), on the specials menu 4. Tea egg 5. Glutinous Rice Ball in bean powder, on the dessert menu. I call it QQ Yuan, and I refuse to share this dish because it is so amazing. If you like Tiger Sugar drinks, this is the dry dessert version with dark brown sugar sauce. I am not really a fan of their noodle, soup, or bread items.
