The good:
-The house is beautiful.
-Some of their events are really good and interesting.
-Some of their staff are lovely.
-Their service has improved since they were called out for adding an obligatory service tip to bills. They have now dropped that practice and the service has improved greatly.
-The truffle fries are delicious.
-The pool is beautiful and heated.
The bad:
-The events are not punctual. Often starting very late and ending late.
-Management is very disorganized and events feel chaotic, with different employees giving different messages and just overall poor communication via email. They just don’t seem to have their act together.
-Events seem to be more about making money and promoting Soho House on social media, than about the member experience. Even though photos are prohibited, every event from exercise classes to more intimate workshops will have photographers in your face, thereby ruining what could be an otherwise lovely event. It is intrusive and a lack of respect for members’ privacy.
-Their parties limit table seating to people who buy bottle service, which is beyond tacky for a member’s club. They obviously haven’t caught on to the fact that many people don’t drink anymore, or drink much less. Parties are often full of smoke, super loud, and way too crowded.
-Rules around cell phone and computer use are arbitrary and inconsistently enforced, which is really annoying.
-The food tends to be pretty tasteless and pricy, so I tend to eat before or after going there.
