Where to Find the Best Restaurants in Pacific Beach | Eater San Diego

"The latest outpost for this Thai restaurant with locations in North Park and Ocean Beach is decorated in a similar pop art style, which functions as a colorful backdrop for a vibrant menu that includes noodle soups, curries, and signature rice dishes like its roasted pork, crispy pork belly, and Thai sausage served with jasmine rice." - Grace Cassidy

Google
Small but cozy thai spot! Discovered the place by coincidence and ended up trying some of the dishes with my friends, they’re delicious!! We tried pad see iw with red pork(?), Chinese broccoli with crispy pork, and one dish i can’t remember the name but it’s crispy pork salad with spicy & sour dressing. All the dishes were really good and worth the money. Also, we visited on Sunday evening and they weren’t busy so we didn’t have to wait long.

Google
This place is awesome! The lab crispy pork was super flavorful with the perfect crunch – seriously addictive. The pad see ew was one of the best I’ve had, with noodles cooked just right and that amazing smoky flavor. The stir-fried Chinese broccoli with crispy pork was simple but so tasty, fresh and full of flavor. The staff were really friendly and welcoming too, which made the whole experience even better. Definitely coming back for more!

Google
You won't regret eating here! I got the pad see iw lunch special and it was the perfect portion with the 2 veggie egg rolls. The egg rolls were perfect, nice and crispy and not greasy at all. The pad see was delicious, and had a bit of sweetness to it. Friendly owner working the front. I highly recommend coming here if you're in PB

Google
Absolutely wonderful Lunch special here, I believe I got my pad Thai and two fried spring rolls for $11.99?? Great Pad Thai too! I hate when it’s too sweet, this one has a great balance. Their curries are also fire.

Had dinner there on Sunday evening. Food was delicious, friendly staff. Will be going back again if I'm in the area.

Google
Really good apps - spring rolls with delicious warm slightly spicy peanut sauce, pork belly bites with mayo. Pad see iw and pad kee mow- noodles are nice and soft. A little oily. Beef pieces were unfortunately all tough and overcooked

UPDATE: Take-two, a week later and this place is NOW on point. The move is to get mild spice on the Pad Thai and an ounce side of chili oil. Great portion even for lunch special. Great flavor and not skimping on the peanut, chicken or scallion. For the poor soul who gets extra spicy, your experience will be ruined…don’t do it! We can be friends now :) - - - - - - - - Well I’ll have to try this place again but for now has to be 3-stars as my Pad Thai was inedible before I removed 80% of the chilies. I get 8-10 spice level every time I order a pad Thai. I LOVE SPICE, it’s borderline impossible for me to complain about too spicy…until now. This Pad Thai made my tongue numb and eyes water within seconds. I don’t get why they did this. They offer: no spice, mild, spicy and extra spicy, not a number scale. MAYBE it’s my fault for selecting extra spicy but I have no clue who would enjoy this. Would be a spice level 20 if on a number scale. Once I removed the excess spice it was tasty and good portion so that is why I am going to try this place again.

Google
This a really nice option when your on Mission Blvd. Tastes fresh, always hot and good sized portions. For the price you might expect more protein, but the location (PB) doesn't always get you that. We had shrimp and chicken Pad Thai. Delicious meals!

Yelp
Food: I always get Tom Kah soup when I get Thai and this place was very unique. I cannot tell what "it" was but the soup was delicious. Pumpkin curry? Unique and also very good! Vegetable glass noodles had good flavor, you know how you can eat a noodle and it's like "meh"? Well this place - somehow the noodles were very flavorful by themselves... not sure how they did that? Wife also said her chicken wings were great and the Thai teas had the GOOD bobas, not the ones that are all starchy and gross. Atmosphere: it's cute inside, but small. I think they have 6 tables and then the ones looking out the window. So don't expect a big crowd to fit. Bathroom was also well kept, but also doubles as a storage spot. Will recommend, at some point, that the owners move everything out of the bathroom. Service: It's a little strange because there are menus at the table, but then you order at the register. This is one of those situations where you don't know if you're supposed to tip or not. We still tipped, but besides bribing the food out, the lady working in front didn't attend to our table. My wife actually likes this so we are not bothered every 5 minutes, but then it is just weird whether you are supposed to tip or not. I will leave that decision to you all! ;) Price: Middle of the road, expect $15 for a solid course, plus if you want drinks or appetizers. Not dirt cheap but worth the price, in my opinion. Overall: My wife and I come down to PB a lot and we are thinking this might be our new favorite place! The location is new, so it still has that "feel" to it and I hope it does not lose out on its charm. Good food, decent price and nice location. Will definitely return!

Yelp
Very cute little cafe that deserves your attention if you are in the area and craving Thai! Delicious pad Thai, Amazing Tom Kha, spectacular pork belly! Me and my friend were not ready to try Papaya salad, so you may want to hold on that as well, but otherwise it was a very good lunch! The server was very helpful and she even tried to talk us out of the salad ordering, but we didn't listen and that is on us highly recommend their Tom Kha and Pad Thai

Yelp
My daughter is vegan and we were looking for a place to eat in PB and this place came up in my search as a best place to eat in PB. I agree with this because we had a delicious meal, great service and a quiet place where we could chat. The latter was important because down by the beach, many of the restaurants are so crowded ( like the place next door) you can't even have a conversation. This place had some other diners in it but many just walked in to pick up food to go. The meal was delicious, well seasoned and fresh. Our server was helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this place when you're in the area!

Yelp
Decided to try Soi PB when visiting PB. I ordered the pumpkin curry. Portion size was generous, but I didn't come away overly satisfied. I ordered mine with chicken, which was very thin and flimsy. The curry: rice : chicken ratio seemed off

Yelp
Friendly employee, clean indoor seating, well decorated, and tasty food! We all loved the dishes we ordered.

Stephanie W.

Yelp
Just came back from Thailand and this place is the most authentic Thai food in all of San Diego.
google avatar

Kristie L.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from here and the tom kha soup was my favorite. The fried pork belly was good but the skin/top wasn't crispy enough. The pad kee mow with roasted pork was good enough and I'd order again. The Thai crispy wings were ok but pricey for just 5 pieces. I'd skip the spicy wontons next time. Had a weird, sweet sauce and the wonton itself was dense and not my favorite mouthfeel. Everything was packaged nicely and the fried things had holes in the boxes to keep crispy.

Kimberly P.

Yelp
Great food, service and great location!. I come here regularly, it's a good place warm atmosphere and welcoming Tom Kha Soup is my favorite!!

Yelp
SOI food was good and cheap but not my favorite Thai in the city. The vibes were casual and fast. Easy place to go with a group because you each order on your own. Had the Pad Thai and Tom Kha which let me down a bit but overall the experience was fun to hangout with friends for a quick bite!
google avatar

Diane S.

Yelp
Food is great; service remains friendly and prompt. It's a clean environment with good parking. The cafe is authentic Thai in all ways! This will be a regular stop for good Thai.

Yelp
GREAT THAI FOOD IN PACIFIC BEACH ============================== My husband and I were starving after riding our e-bikes around Mission Bay for an hour and I had this place bookmarked for pick-up. I have a good size bag on my beach cruiser, but I took my backpack too. We pulled up on our bikes to the restaurant and I watched the bikes while my husband went in and ordered. We rode about five miles back to our Airbnb and couldn't wait to try the chicken and yellow curry and pad kee mow with beef. They were absolutely delicious. We saved a bit to bring back home. We would definitely recommend getting Thai food at SOI Thai Street Food and would definitely go back.

Yelp
Soi is one of the best local chains in San Diego, with Soi 30th being my favorite Thai restaurant in SD. I am so glad that they have opened a location in PB! This location has some of the Soi staples, like green curry and pad thai, but specializes in Thai street food. I personally love the suki yang dry.
google avatar

Yelp
I am already a fan of the SOI Thai in North Park- so I was so excited they opened a new location in my friend's neighborhood. This replaced Coconut Girl kitchen and is a MAJOR upgrade from the previous restaurant. Had so many issues with Coconut Girl- anyways... first visit to SOI PB was incident free and delicious! We stopped by after walking the boardwalk and love that we were able to order on their website- it was ready when we arrived. We tried two of their noodle dishes - they were both fantastic! The medium level spice was almost a little too much for us, but still enjoyable. I'm just getting wimpy with spice these days I guess. SOI is some of my favorite casual Thai in San Diego. It's great to see them expand. I look forward to adding SOI to the sunset dinner rotation. Their location is perfect to take to the beach for a picnic.

Yelp
Simply put the wings are amazing. I had the chicken pad Thai that was no slouch in its own right. Over all great place with a vibrant atmosphere. Highly recommend giving it a try.

Yelp
Delicious food! Flavorful and great vegetarian options. The staff are very kind, great service.

Yelp
Finally tried this place and took it to go as I had been gone most of the day. I would steer clear of the fresh spring rolls (mediocre ingredients, wrapping, peanut sauce was odd) but the Tom Yum Noodle Soup and Spicy Wontons beyond made up for them! The Spicy Wontons, while different than what I am used to, are delicious and they don't skimp on the spice. They were even spicier than the level 4 Tom Yum Noodle Soup which was decently spicy but overall had intense, well balanced flavor and lots of different textures, even when ordering to go. Staff was helpful and efficient. The only downside is parking but that's to be expected this close to the beach.

Yelp
Pleasant staff, the ladies have a friendly attitude. Good selection of food. I'm a vegetarian and selected the pineapple fried rice with tofu. Fresh veggies, tofu yummy , pineapple taste like I'm in Hawaii, a touch of raisins, a small amount of spices, please ask them for your level. They just opened, come over as I did and try it they yummy selection. Ambiance good pleasant atmosphere, good vibe music. End result is 5 stars

Yelp
We were around and found this gem from Yelp and decided to give it a shot! I'm glad we did! Service was super quick! The foods were delicious and priced very reasonable! My kids loved their thai crispy wings, too!

Yelp
The food was so good, and the people working there were so sweet. got the Tom Yum noodle soup which was good, and the mango and sticky rice which was amazing. Definitely save room for dessert!
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
We ordered take out from here, and it was super fresh and delicious. I'd especially recommend the wings. We also had green curry chicken and pad Thai (boring, I know), and they were both yummy. Good portion sizes too.
google avatar

Andrea K.

Yelp
Food was absolutely divine. Chill atmosphere and excellent food - best combo. Took a friend who tried pad see ew for the first time and made a fan for life!

Yelp
I was excited about this new Thai restaurant in PB.I was looking for real Thai street food in PB for a while but none of Thai place have street food in their menu.I came here first day open. The restaurant itself clean and very oriented.I enjoyed the cream cheese wonton, crispy Thai wings,Kow mun Gai and Larb Gai.Food tastes authentic and delicious. There are many Thai Street dishes I want to try next time like boat noodles, yentafo that you can't find easy in the US.Really high recommended!

Yelp
After several prior visits with very good food, this place lost me tonight by serving me completely inedible pork belly. It was either fat, or meat so overcooked it was literally charcoal, crunching in my mouth like a crouton. I had to pick out all the meat. I can no longer recommend this place.

Preston L.

Yelp
As an avid Thai lover, I wanted to give this local restaurant a try. Unfortunately, it was bland, lacking traditional Thai flavor, while being overpriced for what it is as a fast casual eatery. On a positive note, they do have a large menu. Therefore, many people can be accommodated by the options.

Yelp
Amazing authentic Thai and Lao food. - spring rolls Fresh crisp veggies -Lao Papaya Really balance flavors with fermented crab and papaya Will go up a spice level next time -Larb Moo Kob Nice Crispy pork bites pair really well with mint and seasonings and a side of sticky rice. Next round will be trying soups and currys

Yelp
Super delicious food! It's a nice place by the beach. We ordered two rice dishes, we were craving some south Asian style street food, and it did not disappoint. It's actually very similar to the quality of food to when I visited Singapore. Next time, we will try the sticky rice and other curries.
google avatar

Curtis R.

Yelp
Dang good Thai food. Price is pretty good for PB and for Thai. Can easily take home the extras and make another meal or share a couple dishes among 3 people. Great atmosphere, super friendly service.
google avatar

Sassy L.

Yelp
Food was good! They didn't have one of the meals we wanted but we were able to find something else on their menu. The cashier was nice and explained it was her 2nd day working, which helped us when ordering. My favorite was the pork belly and Lemongrass wings. My ratings below: Thai Crispy Wing (9/10) Lemongrass Wing (10/10) Flavor was delicious Pork Belly (10/10) Bite size and had a good mix of fat and meat Khow Mhun Gai (8/10) Chicken- good but not freshly steamed Khow Garlic Pepper (9.5/10) Sticky Rice (5/10) it was hot but not fresH Lao Papaya (7.5/10) It was more like Thai style but still good Khow Moo Kob & Moo Dang (dish they didn't have)
google avatar

Everett R.

Yelp
The Tom Yum soup is best I've ever had ! The pineapple chicken was very good too. Very authentic
google avatar

Nikolai L.

Yelp
Amazing new Thai place in PB, really have the Thai recipes down. Eating here the food reminds me of the same flavors I had in Thailand. It is a bit more spicy on the scale of other Thai restaurants but that goes with the authenticity, so if you normally get hot I would get medium and if you get medium I would try mild. Really fantastic new place, can't recommend enough. Service is great and the staff owners are super friendly!
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
Food was soooooo good! Staff very friendly and I will be coming back every week!! The ambiance was so nice I felt like I was home. 10/5 star/!
google avatar

Patty K.

Yelp
Excellent Panay curry and fresh spring rolls and the other dish my husband had that I can't remember the name. Customer service was also excellent, just wish they had their liquor license so we couple have enjoyed a glass of wine with the meal.

Sue G.

Yelp
Food was great and service was good Chicken satay was yummy! More of a to go place than a dine in place. Lots of restaurants and bars in the area.
google avatar

Benny T.

Yelp
Excellent Thai Food! First time here. I live in hillcrest where there's a lot of good Thai food. This was as good or better than any place in hillcrest. Panang curry was perfect

Kelly F.

Yelp
Excellent Thai food! The price is right, very clean inside, and they make it super fast.

C.A S.

Yelp
Food remains very good, however, Soi is always understaffed, tables are littered with prior guests food (wonder what health inspector would say), wait times exceed 30 minutes, and staff appear tired and over worked!
google avatar

Cammy N.

Yelp
The food was amazing! We tried the fresh rolls which were super fresh and tasty with a yummy peanut sauce. We also got drunken noddles with vegetables and tofu (it has a different name on the menu but I don't recall it). We asked for a spice level 3. Usually that's a little spicy but here, there were chilis cooked into it and it was super spicy, but super yummy. The service was super fast! You order at the counter, then they bring it quickly to your table. They cook it very fast! The menu is extensive and so many things sound good. They had coupons at the front for buy one appetizer, get one free. We will definitely be back! I keep thinking from time to time how tasty the spicy drunken noodles were! I highly recommend Soi PB Street Food!!!

Lizzie V.

Yelp
As a huge fan of SOI OB I was super excited that soi was coming to my neighborhood and it has not disappointed! Best Thai food around by far!!! The service is great and the food even better-- my favorites are drunken noodles (pad kee mao) and panang curry.
google avatar

Ted L.

Yelp
Food was ok, not sure what the beef was as ordered rib eye and was not, no flavor and very tuff. Service was non existent, poor at counter, served wrong food, never said sorry and never came back after got our food. I tip after all service and usually tip generous but here gave zero. I hate places wanting 20-25% tips just to take order, I always wait to see food and service.

Caroline R.

Yelp
The best Thai food in all of San Diego. Transcendent food, the kind of food that they serve in heaven. Service is equally awesome.
google avatar

Raquel D.

Yelp
This place was a random pick, but what a pleasant surprise! Food was delicious. Wonton soup was flavorful, colorful and so satisfying! Highly recommend
google avatar

Joe D.

Yelp
On an impulse we dropped by and it was so good. The fried rice was amazing. The Tom Yum was .
google avatar

Adam I.

Yelp
Super high-quality Thai food. I had the pork belly curry which was phenomenal. The pork belly was crispy and perfectly done. I live in the area and I am excited to have high quality Thai food nearby. Definitely going to be eating here again.

Suzy Q.

Yelp
Loved this place! Delicious fresh food, very warm and prompt service, and reasonable price. The kao soi was fabulous and also loved the fresh spring rolls. Nice selection of Lao and Thai dishes- more interesting that the average Thai restaurants in this area.

Dino D.

Yelp
I have now been here four separate times and have had almost everything on the menu. None of their dishes disappoint - every dish is bursting with unique flavor. Love this place!

Dave K.

Yelp
Awesome new authentic thai spot by the beach. Stopped by with my family for some thai classics like pad Thai & pad see ew but they did an awesome hainan chicken rice too. Kind people as expected. Can't go wrong.

Chloe L.

Yelp
More expensive than their OB location and the food isn't as good. Next time will go back to the OB location. Service was alright and ambiance was very quiet.

Mikaela P.

Yelp
Awesome new spot in PB. I had the spring rolls, Tom kha, and drunken noodle. All were very good. The only problem was that I ordered through the website and it said pick up in 20 minutes. When I arrived (25 min later), they told me it would be another 20 minutes because they were very busy. Worth's the wait though, I'll be back.

Julie Chan ..

Yelp
Tasty fresh food at good prices. Fast service. Cool decor. Love the wall of customer polaroid pictures.

Mike F.

Yelp
Food was really solid. This is probably going to be my new go-to Thai restaurant for PB!
