I ordered a load of 60/40 soil/compost blend. I paid for Saturday delivery, but was called 2 days before by someone at Soil Direct asking if they could deliver on Friday instead because they didn't have a driver that weekend. I like to be amiable to these sorts of changes so I said yes and selected a delivery time when I knew someone would be home. On Friday I get a call 2 hours early from the truck driver who says he's at my house and wants to know where to dump the soil. I asked him to wait because my spouse was on the way home to open the gate so he could back up the driveway but instead he just dumped 3 cubic yards of soil into the driveway and left. I let it go, it happens right? Here I am 2 months later and literally everything I planted or re-potted into the new soil is dead. So I paid extra for a service I didn't get and wasn't refunded the fee for soil that killed our garden. We are by no means amateur gardeners and have a pair of beautiful yards to show for it. Based on the way the driver treated us I'm no longer confident I even got what I ordered.

Fast delivery, ordered Monday and had vegetable / flower soil delivered early next morning. Soil quality looks good and not compacted. Good communication with text message when 15 min away. Priced a lot lower than big box stores.

We have gone to the Tujunga location several times for mulch and top soil. Easy access, great prices and knowledgeable staff.

DO NOT ORDER FROM SOIL DIRECT: I am so disappointed with the QUALITY of the dirt I received for my vegetable garden. NOTHING GROWS. I am a very experienced gardener and I am kicking myself for not doing soil testing on a sample product from this company. The dirt is nutrient depleted, highly compacted, and absolutely the worst possible investment I have made on any landscaping project. The cost and labor to amend this product is substantially greater than the initial cost of the dirt. I am so disappointed in this company- not to mention the absolute nightmare it was to get the dirt down a driveway, had to hire labor because they would not bring their truck down - a septic truck just was down this driveway and it is fine. I sincerely regret ordering from this company AND IF YOU CARE about having a successful garden DO NOT ORDER FROM SOIL DIRECT. I am far more upset about the quality of the dirt than the delivery issues, if you garden, you understand. Please do not make the same mistake as me and order dirt from this company. I cannot speak to their other products but the veggie raised bed dirt is worthless, do not let soils direct ruin your harvest. Much love to all the vegetable gardeners out here and I pray you do not make the same mistake as I did! DONT DO IT! SAVE YOUR GARDEN!!!!

One common theme reading all these reviews. Eric T. must have inherited this business because, there is no way anyone with his lack of humility could build this business. Not in one of his responses does he say sorry. I am very appreciative to yelp and its users for because of you I will never have to deal with Mr. Eric T.

Went to La Tuna location to check hours and product. I made my plans around that info. Hired labor and showed up to buy their products. The lot was locked, no one answered the 818 or 888 numbers. Cost me time and money. Just go somewhere else. Champion building supplies is a better option.

I'm on the fence about using this service again. I was pleased with with product. It arrived on time. But the stress of not knowing if it was in fact going to be delivered is a bit too much for me. I appreciate great customer service but I didn't have that kind of experience with my purchase. $800 of Redwood bark I never received a confirmation of my delivery time, or who would be contacting me. I left voice mails, and did not get a reply, I sent emails and did not get a reply, I made sure to check my Spam file as well. After about 5 more phone calls I finally reached a guy who seemed like he was annoyed that he's receiving a call. He took all my information, told me "it should be there" and then hung up. People including me complain about the big box stores putting the little guy's out of business. But if the little guy's really want the business, they have to provide a better level of customer support service than the big box guy's. Or maybe these guy's just really don't need the business. This company did provide a good product on time. But the customer service is horrible.

I do not recommend this place. I paid a big price for 1 cu yard of nuggets and received a small pile that in my calculation was less that 1/2 cu yard. When I called to complain, Eric (the owner) insisted that the quantity was correct. BEWARE, you may be paying a lot for very little.

Avoid this company if possible. Erik (the owner?) is one of the rudest people I have ever had the displeasure of doing business with. We ordered close to $600 worth of sod to be delivered to our driveway. They delivered it a week early with no warning (and no notice that it was being delivered - just dumped it and left) and left it in the middle of the sidewalk, to our and our neighbors' dismay. We called to see what the mix up was and request they take it away since we wouldn't be available to install it until the originally schedule date a week later. Erik did not apologize once. He said he could get ahold of the driver on the weekends, but MAYBE he could get someone to pick it up later in the week. Never happened. So $600 worth of sod went waste, we made our neighbors mad, and we had to deal with this jerk that couldn't care less whether we were happy or not. He told us that he "barely made any money on sod" so he had no incentive to give us any kind of compensation (or even an apology) for the trouble he cause. He actually offered a $5 refund. How insulting. Erik, it's your own fault if you aren't making the money you want to on sod delivery. Don't treat your customers poorly because of your poor business decisions. Your lack of interpersonal skills and integrity as a business owner should keep anyone considering using you away. A simple apology would've went a long way.

You define one's character by how they face adversity. Soildirect made a mistake and made up for it and defined their character. I will be coming back. Israel, really stepped up. What a nice man who knows how to treat customers. This guy is made for management and customer service.

I called several places before reaching out to SoilDirect. I needed 6 cubic feet of beach sand and a cubic foot of gray decomposed granite. Every place I called in Los Angeles either didn't have the products, wouldn't let me see them or send me samples, or required high minimums for delivery. SoilDirect was the only place that did all of these things. I spoke with Eric on a Friday and the samples were delivered the next day as promised. I then placed my order online and followed up with a phone call a few days later. Eric answered the phone and said he'd be there at the scheduled time. And he was. He couldn't have been kinder or more professional when he arrived. The quality of the materials was excellent. I can't say enough good things about my experience. And no, I'm not a family member or friend. I had never met Eric or done business with his company before, but I would not hesitate to do so in the future.

Do not do business with this company they are a total fraud, they will not answer their phones, return emails, or deliver their product when schedule. Avoid the headache of placing an order with this company. Do not do business with this sham of a company

Both times they arrived on time and delivered quality products. Reasonable prices as well. Delivery guy was very courteous and helpful.

Horrible business, run as fast as you can away from Eric (the owner) and the business. He will treat you like scum and won't show up to your job when promised or even at all. He's definitely an entitled person to do business with that loves to find excuses why the customer is wrong for his business mistakes. Lol. Comical really.

Left messages to call back becuse no one their answered phone. Once on Saturday morning and again on Monday morning. No call back recieved. Calls made to both the 888# and the 818#. Not impressed when constuction is time sensitive.

Product is great quality, service is fast and reliable and prices are very competitive. Eric is very helpful and will work with you to make sure you receive your order when you need it. I had gravel delivered to my house in San Diego - delivery was on time and driver was really careful and thoughtful! I did have to call them the day before and confirm my delivery was coming as I didn't hear from them, but everything was scheduled to show up so it would have come either way, and the person I talked to on the phone was great! Recommend and will use in the future.

Easy peasy! I placed an online order for 6 cubic yards of their flower/vegetable mix on wed afternoon for next day delivery. The delivery time was between 9am-11am. The driver Israel arrived within the time frame, he was pleasant, had an upbeat personality and was very helpful. The soil was exactly what we were looking for! Really happy with their services and excited to grow my own veggies! I'll definitely be using soil direct again!

Ordered 4 sq yards of gorilla hair mulch. Delivered to my yard in 2 days. Good quality mulch. Easy.

I purchased 6 yards of topsoil for seeding in the back and turf in the front of my house. I ordered a 70/30 mix (Seventy percent soil, 30 percent compost.) The soil that was delivered was better than I hoped for. It was mixed very well and was easy to shovel. It looked like potting soil from a big box store. I've looked at what the other landscape supply and dirt vendors have in the area. I would have paid the same price for clumps of sandy soil with no compost and had to buy and mix it myself. Huge pain! I also got the quantity I paid for, you'd be surprised how short loaded I've been in the past from other companies. Very happy with the experience. I'd definitely recommend them. Today I took delivery of sod from Soil Direct. They showed up exactly when they said they would. The driver was very professional. The sod was very fresh. I was happy with this experience as well.

The website was super easy. I ordered 10 yards of Class 2 Base. Price was fair, delivered on time, just where I wanted it, Driver friendly and helpful. I'm going to order another 10 yards. I just took delivery of my second 10 yards of Class 2 Base, every thing went without a hitch. Same 5 star service. I just have one question. Two loads of the same amount, of the same material, at the same location. Why did the second load cost me $39.24 more than the first load? Would you please respond in this forum? Thank you.

I ordered Arizona rock 6 in -8 inches on mid of June 2018. Delivery was delayed few times until they delivered almost on July 4.Price is ok, and arizona rock is nice. I will order again for next project.

I have to say that I was a bit concerned after reading some of the Yelp reviews, but my experience in ordering pea gravel with Soil Direct was GREAT! Some of the reviews said their pricing was good because it was the cash price, but Erik told me that I could pay with a credit card, cash or check, so that took care of that concern. Some of the other reviews mentioned how late delivery was, but once again I didn't have a problem with that. Erik told me that delivery would be between 7AM-9AM and the driver showed up at 7AM. People also said that the driver wasn't nice, but the guy who delivered the pea gravel was SO nice. I told him that I was worried about the gravel spilling off of my driveway onto my grass and plants and he said that he would let the gravel out slowly... it was no problem. Some people said that they didn't like that Erik answered the phone in his car. I couldn't care less if he answered the phone in his car or in his bathroom. The end result was that his price was good, he delivered as promised, and the product was exactly what I wanted.

This was the cheapest place I could find to get 3/8" California Gold gravel at the qty of 2 cu yds. Was hesitant to purchase online at first - since ordering just seemed too easy. Thought there was a catch somewhere since their pricing was about 20% cheaper than what all the other landscaping providers quoted me. Figured I'd give it a shot and placed the order 1 week ahead of when I wanted the delivery. I had to change the time to an earlier time slot last minute and they accommodated me without any issues. The gravel arrived on time. The driver was polite. The gravel was exactly what I wanted. What I loved about this place was how easy it was to get pricing online. Sure beats calling around during work hours for quotes. Would order from this place again in a heartbeat.

I had less than a stellar experience with this company. Ordered a pallet of rocks on Monday for delivery late Friday afternoon. There was some rain in LA and they called me on Friday to tell the forklift was stuck in the mud. Apparently they only have one. Really??? I was told I would have my rocks first thing Saturday morning. Come Saturday after 3 phone calls, more excuses, and more than 3 hours I finally see a truck. The driver backs into our driveway and dump loose rocks onto the driveway. Several of the stones broke and splintered when they fell on the driveway rendering them useless. The driver never as much as rolled down his window and then just drove off without a word. Needless to say I will not be using this company again!

Pro: Fast delivery, Friendly Cons: Expensive, So-so Quality I was disappointed in the quality of the "top soil" it was more like volleyball sand, not what I was hoping for to mix into some vegetable beds. I believe it was said to me that it was a sandy-loam, it was definitely not. Many of the river rocks were broken in half or chipped badly. The "playground sand" may not be safe enough for children to play in, very fine and powdery, not certified lead-free, or free of anything else. Overall I felt that I was delivered generous portions, which may be a good thing for those of you needing a little extra, but for me the extra material laying around was something I had to pay to have removed from my job site. I will be trying some other company's for comparison sake.

Actually I like this place, as a landscaper I like the prices and service , delivery fee is reasonable, I have made businesses with them a few times and they have always help, Probably what people do not understand about a business with low prices is we do not hire a pretty face always smiling, we do work hard for every penny...

Setting up the organic veggie garden -- Ordered 3 cubic yards of veggie and flower mix. They said it would be delivered at 8am Saturday morning and the truck came at 8am on Saturday morning. Soil beautiful -- everyone professional -- Would order from Soil Direct again in a heartbeat! Excellent customer oriented business! ja

Bought the YELP DEAL $200 for $155. Ordered 4Cu.Yds. of pea gravel for my yard on Friday. Delivered Monday morning. Could not be HAPPIER. Great service. Couldn't have been any easier or better Andrew at andrew@theurbanfarmer.biz Installed/landscaped it. Totally transformed my yard in a few hours.

An absolutely horrendous product. We ordered a few yards of their flower and vegetable mix this past spring. Despite regular watering, and shade cloth when necessary, our plants remain stunted and completely unproductive. Upon inspection, it's clear the soil does not drain well at all and cakes easily. As such, we will need to undertake some serious measures to improve the material for next year's garden. This isn't a problem, except that one would assume that with a name like 'flower vegetable mix', the soil wouldn't require this type of action. This product would be more appropriately categorized under the heading, fill dirt.

I couldn't be more happy. I ordered 2 yards of decorative gravel for a backyard project. Placed the order on Sunday to deliver on Thursday between 9-11. Truck arrived at 9:40ish. The driver politely came to the door and introduced himself. Was very pleasant and friendly. The driveway was small so it wasn't easy to get to the back but he did it. From start to finish it couldn't have been better. 100% satisfied!!!!

I use Top Soil for mulch for my landscaping projects. The walk on mulch is top quality. Service is excellent and the delivery is always on time!

ordered materials on a wednesday night for a thursday delivery between 3pm and 5pm. they called on thurday at 2pm to tell me they couldn't make that so I agreed to a friday delivery between 10am and 11am. At noon i still had no delivery. I called and was told the truck was just being loaded. With friday traffic lets be realistic, the very earliest I'd get my order would be 1pm. I asked what kind of discount I was getting and after about 15 minutes of lame explanations I was told they'd give me $10 off. Unbelievable! I canceled my order since my day was half over anyway. What happened to accountability? Don't order from here unless you're EXTREMELY flexible on your time frame.

I have used Soil Direct many times over the past 8 years and they are spot on, always on time and with great prices as well. Their online scheduling service is super convenient and tailored to your location.

Be Wary of the nice and easy to use website - that service ends as soon as you purchase. I am a first time home buyer with a need to get soil delivered fast. I ordered soil on this company with a same day delivery date (which the website allows) and was not even contacted within 24 hours of the order. I called the 1-888 number the following day and tried every extension - no one answered. Finally I received a confirmation email about my order and called with the extension provided. After 12 rings someone (clearly on their cell phone) picked up with dogs barking in the background and told me he needed to call me back to look up my order. There is no administrative support for the company at all - the website is it. So you are basically working on the whim of whatever contractor they contracted with to supply the materials for your job. In other words this is the opposite of transparent. Call a local soils/rock contractor and deal with them directly. This has been a nightmare. Nothing has been delivered and I have yet to receive a call back.

My mom got their dg a few years ago and looks great. I was a little worried ordering landscaping materials online. Their prices are great but their material was terrible. I had to sift through 10 yards to get all the unground granite out. There were also pieces of glass, ceramic and even long screws in the material! I would never suggest this company to anyone.

I completely re-did my front lawn. Got started digging sod up, dirt, rocks and roots. Found this company searching online for soil. Purchased the top-soil, 70/30. Did it all online. The product was awesome and delivered on time and they did not leave a mess. So, I needed fill dirt. Bought it online. Same result. Finally, needed sod. Bought it here. This company is tremendous and does what they say they do. I would recommend them for all your landscape needs. So happy with the product and service.

My contractor recommended Soil Direct because of their prices (which are very competitive). I called repeatedly on June 17, 18, and 19 and no one answered. I also emailed on June 19 and 20 with no response. I finally got through to someone on the phone on June 20 who told me to order online. The online system let me select June 21 as the delivery date, but then the rep (Eric?) called back and said that the dates listed on the system were not accurate. We scheduled delivery for the following week (June 28). The rep asked if our driveway would be wide enough for a large truck to come up. I said yes (we had 10 yards of gravel delivered the week before and have had several large trucks in our driveway during renovations). On delivery day, I get a call that the truck can't make it up -- they don't offer a fix, just say they'll call me back. On July 1, I call Soil Direct to sort out the issue (they should have called me) and am told that they will have to send out a smaller truck, it'll cost more money, and it can't happen this week. I cancelled the order and called the same vendor who I used for gravel delivery a few weeks ago (and they're going to use the same large truck). The cost is a bit higher than Soil Direct, but their customer service (and apparently their ability to drive large trucks) is way better. Soil Direct is not worth the hassle.

We decided to take on the project of turning a dirt patch into a beautiful lawn and Soil Direct made this super easy. We price shopped around and this was definitely comparable in price with other local places and was much easier to do as everything could be done online. Plus the yelp deal saved a few bucks! We made 2 separate orders on different weekends: compost on one Saturday and sod on the next. Both arrived as expected and the quality of both was wonderful. Also the turnaround time was great - I ordered the compost one day ahead and the sod 2 days ahead with no issue.

This is a great place to buy soil! I ordered soil for our garden on Friday bag it was delivered (for free) on Saturday. The soil is great quality and I am very happy with the experience. Highly recommended!

I've dealt with Soil Direct twice for pea gravel and I've been happy with both orders. I used the Yelp deal most recently and saved the cost of a cubic yard or two. Delivery was available the next day and it occurred within the two-hour time window. The quality of the gravel is excellent. I had to call in to use the Yelp deal - service was great and ordering over the phone only took a few minutes. Someone responded within a couple of rings the two times I called.

Excellent service. Ordered rock dust to be delivered on short notice, and they were so helpful. Placed two separate orders, both delivered quickly.

Recently renovated my yard and called Soil Direct for compost. Was able to place the order in the morning and get the product by early afternoon. 16 cubic yards of beautiful, dark compost.

I'm in the Tujunga, CA area and needed 12 cubic yards of mulch and 7 cubic yards of pea gravel. Soil Direct seems to be only a website (not an actual location) that basically fills orders on line. I assume the local suppliers pay a fee to Soil Direct to be listed as a supplier. I wanted to deal directly with the local place and see the product so I called the Soil Direct Tujunga phone # three times and left messages. No return calls. Finally, on the fourth call, Erik answered. They only have a mailing address and no where to go see samples of their products. To get samples you have to pay $10 and wait for them in the mail. Who knows if what you get as a sample matches what will be delivered? Mulch quality can vary widely. So I asked 3 different local gardeners and a contractor who they used. They all recommended The Soil and Sod Depot out by Whitemen Airport. I went there to check it out. No fancy website , just a friendly staff who gave me advice and labelled ziplock bags for samples They had everything Soil Direct had at much lower prices. Example: 12 cubic yards of "Supreme Walk On Mulch" at Soli Direct $969. The Soil an Sod Depot price was $660 plus $85 delivery. Most of the guys there placing orders were pros. They know what's best.

I needed planting mix for my raised beds. I called one day and spoke with a guy on the phone. He quoted me one price. I said I would get back to him when I needed delivery. I called back a few days later and the price with higher. I asked about the discrepancy. Erik, the owner, mentioned perhaps it was a cash price. Either way.......why are your prices different from one day to another? Also, a "cash price" was never mentioned in the earlier conversation. The delivery date was set. Sometime between 7am - 9am. No show. I called at 10am No one was there. Called again a half hour later and got Erik on the phone. No explanation when I asked why they didn't call or show up. Just a lame excuse that he forgot to call me. I said I took a half day off work for this delivery, can you please do something to rectify your mistake. i.e.......a small discount of 20 bucks or how bout an apology??? No, he said. I already have the cash price. No apology, no compensation, no trying to make it right. No professionalism. While I understand things happen, equipment breaks down, etc. As a business owner, make it right with your customers. Starting with an apology! Rude, incompetent, unprofessional. Then he hung up on me saying he didn't want my business. I then did some online research, called The Organic Soil Blend (818) 899-7183 in Sylmar and spoke with Gustavo. His prices were better, the delivery charge cheaper, and he even delivered when they typically won't unless you buy a certain amount. And it was delivered within two hours the same day. You're right Erik. You DON'T want my business!

Ordered 3 cubic yards of decomposed granite. Received a call beforehand letting me know the driver was going to be half an hour early. Caller and driver were both friendly and professional. Unusually punctual and polite for construction/materials related stuff, in my experience.

Good experience. Bought the Yelp deal, call the place, gave them the dimensions of the patch we were building up. Easy to communicate with, timely delivery, good quality dg - will repeat for the next project.
