"Chef Thien Nguyen, a New Orleans native, serves sushi, poke, and ramen at this eclectic Mid City restaurant opened by Chase Lyons in 2018. Modern, young, and fun, this is a great spot for girls night, with tons of pink neon signage, plant life, and a literal Girls Night Special: $25 for a small plate, sushi roll, and a glass of champagne or cocktail. Nguyen has only elevated the menu since coming on board in 2020, with some non-sushi standouts including the salt and pepper calamari, Malaysian coconut curry ramen, and a pork katsudon bowl." - Clair Lorell

We had a great experience at a busy time on a Saturday evening. The appetizers, entrees, and drinks were all delicious and our server Daven did an exceptional job. It was a bit difficult making a reservation for a large party of 10 (see below), but our table was ready and we walked in and sat right down 5 minutes before our reserved time. Daven greeted our table and took a moment to learn everyone's name. He suggested drinks and appetizers and answered questions about the menu. It took more than a few moments to get our drinks from the bar, but it was very busy. 8 of our 10 entrees were delivered together and the remaining 2 came out just a few minutes behind. Everyone enjoyed their dinner and Daven was attentive to drink refills and other requests. Overall, a terrific experience: Recommended. A note regarding reservations: I tried to use the online reservation system and was given a time, but did not get a confirmation. I called the restaurant a few times during lunch hours only to get a very long voicemail message and a notice that the mailbox was full. I called back after 5pm and spoke with someone that confirmed my reservation and told me I would need to make a $50 non-refundable deposit. This amount was deducted from our bill, but the $2.50 fee was not. I honestly don't have a problem making a deposit for a reservation as long as my table is going to be ready on time as it was in this case. Parking was a bit tricky here, as it is at many midcity eateries, but we did find a spot.

Google
An outstanding place to get Asian food around Baton Rouge. The service was amazing and spectacular. The food was very flavorful and big portion sizes. I had a lovely dining experience, I highly recommend and would come back.

Google
The food looked good and fancy but not fresh ingredients. Also, the dish that supposed to be served with sirloin, barely had any meat. They also brought us the wrong order. Their drinks were the only part that was ok.

One of the best Asian food restaurants in Baton Rouge area! With great food, great environment with a very beautiful decoration! Definitely a great place to visit. They very creative with their dishes! It’s definitely a place to pay a visit! Definitely try their dumplings 🥟!

First time visiting and the food was delicious, the atmosphere was fun and the service was excellent! Definitely will be back to try more food choices. The drinks were also top notch!!! The calamari and the cauliflower appetizers were incredible flavors and cooked perfectly.

My girlfriend and I went there on a Saturday night. I wanted to order the stick ribs but when the sever told me that I would need to order an extra side of rice to go with it as the ribs comes with no side at all, it’s just the ribs alone I decided to go with the ramen soup. My soup came about 5 minutes before my girlfriend’s one for some reason. It had a bad smell like old dishes water than had been sitting for too long in a sink. I tried to make an effort and attempted to eat it but it was completely disgusting. We ended up asking for the check and we left without barely eating it spending 54$ with the tip. I still gave a 20% tip as the server was nice and was doing her job. Unfortunately the taste of the food was very disappointing Even the coke was highly diluted served in a skinny glass full of ice as you can see on the picture. Looks like they are giving you the minimum for the money. I ll definitely never go back again and I wouldn’t recommend that restaurant except maybe to my ex wife.

I have ordered takeout from Soji on several occasions, but I've been missing out! This was my first dine-in experience, which was so warm and inviting. I look forward to going back soon. Our server, Jilyan, was professional, very sweet, and attentive. Her service reminded me of what customer service used to look like across the board. Her level of service aligned with the work culture. Everyone was nice, appreciative, and welcoming. The food is so much better when the ambiance and service are as good as the food. Our meals were delicious, hot, and prepared in a timely manner. The portions were more than enough. I had enough to take home. Last but not least, I have to share details about the ambiance. Deep, rich, and attractive are three words I would use to describe the Soji ambiance. It's appropriate for friends, family, and dates! Give it a try; you won't be disappointed!

Google
Best restaurant I've been to in Baton Rouge. Food was unbelievable and atmosphere was hip. Boyfriend raved about the food as well, we can't wait to go back and try more of the menu. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Service was amazing, 10/10 (Server Sarah!) Food was delicious! The vibe was it! Perfect for a date night or a small elegant celebratory dinner! Will be coming back!

Yelp
A fun spot for Asian fusion! Maybe not Indian though - the butter chicken was watery and missing the heat and flavors that is characteristic of south Asian dishes. I just tasted tomato. The house made naan was a nice touch though. The edamame had an onion garnish that I was eating by itself it was so good! The drunken noodles had hand pulled noodles that were too thick and chewy but that steak and veg stir fry with the eggs can't be beat! I took them home to eat with rice and it was delish!

Keaira D.

Yelp
My favorite!! Great food & sake flight Girls night is Thursday & they have drinks specials with live music.

Grace B.

Yelp
Came here for Baton Rouge restaurant week and had an AWESOME experience. Every dish was unique and delicious. Highly recommend the Hailey Paradise roll. Service was great as well with great music to vibe to. Soji makes for a great night out with friends or a date night!

Camille S.

Yelp
I went to soji to have dinner with my sister I just met and they made our dining experience great. The food was awesome. The waitress Carloine b was the best. They even put sisters on our dessert To make it even more special for us

Destinique D.

Yelp
I really like the decor inside, it's very relaxing and tropical. We were seated quickly as well. Not pictured are the shrimp tempura rolls. I really liked those. The fries chicken was really good while I liked both I prefer the plain instead of the tossed. The rice was okay it helped balance the heat.

Yelp
What a terrific place! I really like the small dining room vibe with the cool bar at the end of the room. My girlfriend and I had a pair of really yummy cocktails followed by a truly delicious meal. I ordered the drunken noodles and enjoyed them very much. Our server was absolutely epic! She helped guide us into the entire meal. The only thing holding this back from being a five star review would be my impression of cleanliness. Not that this place is dirty but it's a little "worn" and our table top was a tad bit sticky. Usually that's a bad sign particularly in an Asian restaurant, but I'm glad we stuck it out and kept an open mind. We will definitely be back to try more items on the fascinating menu.

Yelp
Went yesterday, not only were we not told about the specials but service in general seemed off. Hope ya find your groove. As long time Soji enjoyers it was sub-optimal. Ordered a Sazerac but it was rang up as some odd cocktail with Sazerac brand as the whiskey type, was wildly off for a drink you guys normally nail. Sushi took forever to come out at 5:00 with no crowd, and the entrees came out almost immediately but thrown together. The crispy beef cooked, and right off the wok but the rice was drenched in the sauce to the point we drained the excess liquid out of the take home containers. Slammin salmon was great as always. Kinda worried to come back though as we splurge here expecting it to all work out, and this time felt quite off for the price.

Shae And Ty S.

Yelp
The ambiance was beautiful, very nice decor and and good music. The food was really decent, especially the butter chicken. The service and staff were really excellent. Will be returning soon!!

Sarah W.

Yelp
Ever since I first tried Soji, it became one of my favorite restaurants in Baton Rouge. It's a cool place with a fun ambiance. So many great options. I think their sushi is the best in the city. Highly recommend Sunkissed Salmon and Hailey's Paradise rolls. Their vietnamese egg rolls are one of my favorite apps I've tried in an Asian restaurant. Other app recs would be the sundown salmon bites, chef's dumplings and cauliflower. All unique renditions and so tasty. The pork katsudon, drunken noodles and crispy beef are great entrees.

Traechel M.

Yelp
This is my first review for Soji, but my third time dining here. I popped in with a friend for the advertised "Ladies Night" on Thursdays. I would recommend making reservations, but they do accept walk-ins. Also, prepare for the limited parking. We parked down the street and walked, but it's not ideal especially at night. Without reservations, the hostess quickly sat us at the bar area. Unfortunately, the first table he offered wasn't even cleaned off yet. We opted for the tables that were already cleaned, but of course this table rocked all night. The Bartender CC came over and took our order. She was really nice and patient as we placed our orders. Don't be alarmed if you don't see the Ladies Night Menu, you have to ask for it. We ordered a little bit of everything. From the Ladies Night menu: Champagne and the Basil Julep, the Tokyo sushi roll and the Crunchy roll, the fried Cauliflower and the pork dumplings. Nothing was really good or special about the food. The sushi is okay, the pork dumplings were bland. The cauliflower is good, just some pieces are too large for eating. It felt like an American take on Asian cuisine instead of really authentic sushi. Lastly, we decided to try the Shrimp Bao and now this, this was GREAT! Perfect textures, soft bao dough, crispy shrimp, and cabbage! The best thing we had all night. Of course, Soji has all the Instagrammable vibes, they wasted no money on the esthetics, but their menu could use more time and development.

Yelp
Great price, generous portions, attentive service, nice ambiance where it's not too loud. I enjoyed the teppanyaki steak. I wish I tasted more lemongrass in the edamame and I can tell the chef is decent based on the fish slices and cucumber slivers in my crudo. A bottle of sake was only $30. Def not big city prices. Our server Steve was great and fun to chat with! Best of luck to him, a recent grad.

Jordan A.

Yelp
Parking is difficult, but you'll be happy you made it happen! Everything we had was to die for and the sake flight was so fun. Great drinks, food, and ambiance! Ask to sit in the bar area for an extra cozy/sexy feel.

Quynh D.

Yelp
update: had take out of the drunken noodles and the quality was down right -1/10. this is unacceptable, looking back at other reviews our drunken noodles are not the same, the noodles were all chopped into pieces and were very soggy (almost thought we didn't have any noodles at all) in the other reviews, the noodles were long wide rice noodles, which looks nothing like ours. needless, to say we were disappointed by this asian fusion place! hopefully yours will be better quality unlike our experience

Beryl D.

Yelp
love that they offer all day happy hour on Sunday. such a value for quality food. my favorite item here was the edamame which was flavored in garlic, chili powder and lemon grass. I also enjoyed my tempura shrimp roll. highly recommend and can't wait to come back!

Ayiana G.

Yelp
Ambiance. Really fun and vibrant which was really the reason I wanted to go. Service. The service, was neither good nor bad. Food. Now this...I got the ramen and it was really...not good, i gave it to my boyfriend who said it was fine. So i realize that some people would like it. I think it's just pretty mediocre and if you want Asian food I recommend going elsewhere, Jinya is a wonderful Ramen shop and I really loved sushi yama. Just skip here unless you want to take your chances. Just because the place looks nice doesn't mean the food is good.

Hailee T.

Yelp
I want to start by saying we enjoyed Soji very much! We had reservations for a date night and were seated promptly. We ordered some bao buns, drunken noodles, and general soji's chicken and they were delicious! All flavorful and filling dishes. The only problem I have with Soji is their parking because we could not find a place in their parking lot and had to walk from another parking lot to get to the restaurant. Overall, I recommend trying this place out!

Dustin S.

Yelp
Walked in to a hostess sitting down on the waiting bench, who barely acknowledged us. Was seated and the ambience was ok, good lighting, a little loud being right next to the kitchen. Service was average, not bad at all but nothing special. Now the food. The house made dumplings were not good. 5 tiny dumplings($14) that were drowned in a thick eel/soy type sauce so that all you tasted was sauce. I wiped the sauce off of one and it had no taste. The frozen dumplings from the store are better. By far. We also had a tokyo roll. I swear that your local grocery sushi is better than this. Honestly I mean that. Our entrees included the drunken noodles, which was really good, would have been great with more noodles though. Also the General Tsoji chicken. If you would have blind taste tested us with this and some wal mart frozen General Tso, it would have been even. The fried rice also had some kind of off putting flavor. We had tempered expectations of this place and were sorely disappointed. This was marketed as high end asian, but failed to elevate above grocery store frozen isle for us.

Amber J.

Yelp
This restaurant does a great job of committing to the theme. The restaurant is filled with Asian inspired items with a diverse playlist. The setting matches the intended vibe. The staff was friendly and very accommodating for our large party. The appetizers/shareable plates were delicious. The happy hour menu offers a variety of drinks which were also delicious. My main dish was the General Tsoji Chicken. The chicken had a very nice flavor but the rice could have used more sauce. Overall the experience was nice. Unfortunately, my least favorite aspect of this restaurant is the parking. During peak hours, parking is very limited. There is additional parking available down the street at an abandoned bank, which is very sketchy.

Abby R.

Yelp
Nice ambiance, great service, multiple vegan/vegetarian options, but veryyy expensive. The cocktails were strong and definitely worth the money, but our veggie roll was $15. It was pretty good and the mapo cauliflower was quite good too. I will say if you're in search or good vegetarian / vegan sushi, go to tsunami and sub meat for tofu. It's a lot cheaper and many more options. It would be really cool if they could do that here though! Can't wait to come back here and try out the lotus lounge though.

Alez S.

Yelp
Excellent service with an a diverse menus. Proportions are great and very fairly priced. I ordered 5 different plates and all of them were fantastic.

Peyton F.

Yelp
Veryyyyy tasty! The ambiance was great, I love the music in there. The cocktails were delicious as well, my friends from out of town loved it!

Nikki F.

Yelp
Cute, trendy spot! Great for dates or friends. I visited on a Saturday. I made reservations through the website for 5:30 for 2. I took my 12 yr old on a girls day. We were seated at the back at a high table. The area was cute but tight. It was a happy hour so we ordered a few appetizers. We had the Szechuan wings and Chef dumpling. Both were pretty good. My only complaint is the temp of my wings. They were lukewarm. My daughter enjoyed eating the dumplings with chopsticks. We then ordered sticky ribs, these were okay. Not bad but not the best I've had. The surprise dish was the Kung Pao Baos. This was my first time trying this. The shrimp and cabbage were very good. The texture of the bread wrap was soft and good. I will definitely return to try other dishes. We also had a Shirley temple and Mai Tai Mocktail. Both were good. Definitely try this place out!

Jonathan T.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant. Always fun. Kool decor especially in the tiki bar. Excellent tiki drinks. Nice mix of Asian fusion. Never disappoints. Young, exuberant servers add to the experience. Always fun night out.

ESSENCE J.

Yelp
I would not recommend this restaurant we got the California roll shipped Porel, calamari and chicken. All of the items were not the best.

Kim S.

Yelp
I haven't been to Soji in about two years or so... I LOVED this place when it first open and we would frequent it because of the ambience, food, and vibe. The service is usually normal as expected on busy nights like Fridays. However, my party of 5 and I came in and it didn't seem that busy. Our server was extremely short with us, did not greet us, we don't even know her name. She maybe checked on us 3 times the entire time we were there (about two hours). The food was so bad... my noodles was SOAKED in oil and it was cold. It was like leftovers that had been sitting there. I ate it because I was so hungry and haven't ate since lunch. I was very disappointed and I probably won't be back or will be recommending to any of my friends from now on. The DJ was great and the bartender was awesome.

Justin A.

Yelp
No idea how this place has four stars. The cocktails were watered down, the egg roll appetizers tasted like they were straight from the grocery store frozen section, and the entrees were just bad. The fried rice that comes with the entrees is mixed with steamed Brussel sprouts and gave the dish a very off putting taste.

Marigny L.

Yelp
Loved going to Soji and checking out their happy hour deals (5pm-7pm everyday they're open so not on Mondays)! The first time I went here, I wasn't that impressed with The Rainbow Roll, but I LOVED The Hailey Paradise Roll! I ordered The Hotline Bling cocktail and wasn't the biggest fan; The Mai Tai is definitely a better cocktail on the Happy Hour Menu! Soji is also a great place for a girls night out or a nice celebration dinner. The play really good music and have a great vibe with fun interiors.

Geof D.

Yelp
One of the most uninviting experiences I've had in a while. We went expecting to enjoy some dinner & then enjoy some more after-dinner drinks in their Lotus Lounge, which stays open later than the dining room. We found out that the Lounge was closed for a private party, but presumed the dining room would stay open later to accommodate thirsty guests because that's what you do when you don't want to turn away business. We had to keep flagging down our waiter for drink refills & food orders, easily 20-30mins for each. By the time he got our 3rd drink order, it was after 9pm. He came back to tell us that the bar was closed, so no drinks. And then the waiter at the next table spilled bleach on a member of our party's clothes. We walked to the lobby to wait for our uber when they shut off all the lights in the lobby. Cool-cool. The drinks were good & the food was decent, but that doesn't really make up for the complete lack of service or hospitality.

Amari H.

Yelp
I went to Soji with a group of 15 girls, for a fun girls night out. The restaurant is breathtakingly beautiful. I got there a little early and stopped into their Tiki Bar and enjoyed a drink. The service was fast and friendly. Our server managed our entire table with no hiccups and was very informative with any question we had. The ramen was actually very delicious. The meat was a bit tough to pull apart, but once pulled apart it was pretty tender. I had a bite of my friends sushi, and it was so good! I'd for sure come back and visit.

Miranda S.

Yelp
This was my first time at soji and I came for the girls night menu! It's $25 for a choice from selected cocktails, rolls, and small plates. The menu was pretty large and the service was great! They do not have a ton of parking spaces so i wouldn't recommend meeting a big group of friends there, but inside was pretty big. I thought the food was just okay but I'm also not huge on fusion(ish) food. I would definitely come back for girls night and the atmosphere, I really enjoyed being there!

Eve W.

Yelp
Came here with a few friends. I've been wanting to try this place for a while! I ordered a bunch of small plates. Everything tasted good. Service was good! Our server was funny and nice and gave good advice about what to order.

Teodora I.

Yelp
Love the concept of fusion dishes but wasn't absolutely sold on the three I got. I tried out the dumplings, general tsoji chicken with fried rice and the drunken noodles. The noodles were cooked fantastically and it's a lovely wide noodle which can't always be found. The tsoji chicken was crispy and well sauced but the rice was flooded in sauce and overpowered the flavors. The entire dish tasted like sauce rather than a building of flavors. The dumpling came in a neat bundle and were packed with meat. I would have preferred the sauce on the side as there really wasn't enough with how it was spread on the plate. Overall it was good and I would be willing to try out more dishes but I'm sad they all tasted the same and that may have been my fault with choosing similar items.

Jordan V.

Yelp
From the first time I came to Soji I've been a fan. It's a perfect place for a girls' night or a date. I'm a big time lover of Asian and Asian inspired cuisine, so it's my jam. Love the interior and the music selection is always a vibe. I have yet to have a dish that I didn't enjoy or a cocktail I didn't want a second round of. The ladies' room has a gorgeous full length mirror and a neon sign for a vv cute selfie or group photo moment. There are two dining areas and a bar, but I would still likely make a reservation because I still consider the dining space to be intimate. The parking lot is also a bit tiny so if you're meeting a group, try and carpool. I think I read that they recently did some renovations and made a cocktail lounge in the front half of the restaurant. Definitely checking that out the next time I'm in town.

Brittany B.

Yelp
So I love this place lol. I will say there's one hostess that is insanely rude but everyone here is very friendly. I come here often now and I love it. The drinks are great and the food is great. The bathroom is super cute and this is always a good place to go after work or for a date night or girls night. I've tried about everything on the menu at this point so I know what I love. The specials when they have them are great too. One time they had crawfish and it was amazing.

Charity M.

Yelp
We had reservations for dinner on the night before Valentine's Day. On arrival we were told we would be eating in the bar area (why?) and were seated at a tiny round bar table with a stump for a seat. Fine for drinks but not ideal for dinner. And the food was not good. We had the general soji chicken and pork katsudon. Pork was dry, tough, with weird tasting rice. While the chicken was oversauced and unimpressive. Lose, lose. I was not impressed with any part of this experience.

Aaliyah H.

Yelp
First time trying. Really enjoyed my visit. The service was phenomenal! Never had to look for our server & the manager came to check on us several times. The dumplings & baos were really good! Would go back.

Lucie M.

Yelp
Food was delicious and drinks were tasty! Our waiter Stephen provided excellent service for our table of 12. Very nice environment, cozy and very relaxing. Highly recommend.

Erin R.

Yelp
Came here for a lunch date with my husband yesterday! I was shocked to see plenty of parking spaces available, because in the past, that was always an issue for me. I ordered the Sunkissed roll ($21) for the first time and it was AMAZING! I'm hooked and can't wait to come back for another! My husband ordered the General Soji chicken which he liked as well. If you're not a fan of smokey flavors, you may not like it. It was a little pricey for lunch but we still enjoyed it and had great service. We'll definitely be back.

Johnell W.

Yelp
The fool was so good. The drunkest noodles were delicious. Roman Beef noodles and also good. And do not talk about the chicken wings oh my god it was good

Erin W.

Yelp
Great food but the lotus bar has no air circulation. It's super hot and muggy. The poor bar tenders are sweating like silly. Again great food but for sure pass on the bar that hot.

Josef V.

Yelp
I've been two Soji 4 times now and every time I felt like I payed for the neon sign, music, and scenery. This is a great place to come and get drinks with your friends and get appetizers. But to go out for dinner it's overpriced and food has fell drastically in quality over the past 2 years. On our most recent visit it was a Saturday night at 7:00 pm so you would expect this to be peek service & best chance to taste their best meals. -Sushi Rolls: best part of the meal but for this quality Sushi Masa is just as good. * Slammin' Salmon Roll * Hailey's Paradise -Drunken Noodles have Fell off each time I've gone it's almost as if they make them so often is just made with no effort -Bento Box w/Teriyaki Sirloin: sirloin looked great had great texture but it lacked flavor and...was cold. FRIED RICE...it was not fried rice it was some hipsters attempt to modernize something that is so simple. The rice is what really put me over the edge to make this review. You have a great location, and great environment that people genuinely love my self included but the food is overpriced for the quality and is trying too hard. Get back to what made you on of the best up and coming restaurants in the 225

Jon F.

Yelp
The food was fantastic and J definitely have to go again for more. It was a bit loud to hear but that's something I'd say for a ton of places in BR

Kristen A.

Yelp
Me and my sister stopped in to have a drink and possibly a small bite because we weren't really hungry. It was a really cool looking spot. We sat at the sushi bar and ordered drinks and I got the fried jalapeños. They were pretty good. Everything was Reasonably priced.

Hong-an T.

Yelp
The ambiance is absolutely amazing! Great place to have a date or even a birthday dinner. Service was nice! The food was good but I wish it had bigger portions. Very flavorful!

Joshua R.

Yelp
Service was good. Floors were sticky. Food was ok. The Bao was great but the General Tso was not very good and had very little flavor. Was more of a sesame chicken but worth $20. Panda Express had better sesame for much less.

Don H.

Yelp
No one at front desk when we arrived. Finally after about 10 minutes someone finally showed up. They could not find our reservation, which we had confirmed earlier. The attitude was smug and unapologetic. We were told we would just have to wait for a table to open up. We left and will never return.

Caroline R.

Yelp
Perfect place for a girls night, date night, catching up with friends, or wanting to try some delicious food by yourself. We didn't even order entrees, we picked off of appetizers and it was delicious and filling. Sushi rolls were some of the best in the city. Drinks were spot on as well. Make sure to check out the lotus lounge after your meal! Great use of the space, and wonderful bar tenders.
