"Pittsburgh’s smaller, independently owned restaurants are often deeply personal endeavors. Soju, Simon Chough’s Korean-fusion restaurant in Garfield, takes that notion to the max. He offers an array of Korean dishes inspired by his grandmother’s recipe while weaving his distinctive touch through the menu with dishes such as galbi jjim morphed with elements of French onion soup like Hawaiian bread croutons and soulful kimchi jjigae with three versions of kimchi. When offered, Chough’s mandu are among the best dumplings in Pittsburgh. Cough extends the grace of the space to others through an ongoing series of pop-ups that allow Pittsburgh chefs to express their culinary voices." - Melissa McCart, Hal B. Klein

My girlfriends like here a lot. Absolutely, the fried whole chicken and Soju always are the best combination. The chicken is so good, and I forgot to take a pic, lol. I highly recommend Mango and lychee Sojurita. Also, the seafood pancake is my favorite too. They always so busy, sometimes it takes long time to get a table. But it’s worth. If you want to hang out with friends, good place to go.

Google
Ib is an incredible server and always is attentive to my table. He’s super friendly and made the night a good time. Food was great and soju was great as always. The vibe here is amazing and everyone should try it for sure! 100% recommend!

Google
The food was great. I had the spicy seafood soup and it had a lot of flavor, I would recommend it to anyone. The chicken gizzard and soft steam egg were good too. The staff was really friendly and accommodating and set a great atmosphere. It has a bit of a lounge vibe with good music and food.

Google
Hidden gem. Pros: Good tavern style Korean food Good beer and soju selection ( They also have sake ) Nice decor "Loungey" ambiance Good food Plenty of parking Cozy Cons: Slightly pricey but you get what you pay for

Google
It's supposed to be a pretty hot spot. But seems like whenever one goes out there. There always Someone watching you over their fence like cash reg..either by the owner/ manager / waitresses very spooky...lo

Google
Very nice place and workers are so nice. Outside seating area is very nice and lit up. It tends to be more of a younger hang out crowd here. Never any problems. The food is the best, my favorite is the Mac n cheese and the Brussels sprouts. You can call in for take out. They are open pretty late but close kitchen an hour before closing.

Google
Food: we had seafood pancakes, Korean fried rice, and many foods. We had three beers. Two soju flavors. The portions here are really really big. So be mindful when you order. Service: we came on a weeknight, the service was really friendly. Other servers were checking out on our table too to make sure we were good that made me happy. Ambiance: this place is pretty cool for a soju tavern. Plenty of parking.

Google
great food and service! the vibe here is very lively here especially on the weekend. plu, ib, fab, and eric always create an excellent environment for some casual drinking

Yelp
Local spot, I always come here! My buddy owns it and it's a great place for food as well as hanging out with friends Always packed during the weekends at night. Food is amazing as well. I recommend the beef tartare, corn cheese, kimchi fried rice, and kimchi pasta. But there are no wrong choices!

Yelp
This restaurant was kind of hidden/lowkey and can be a bit hard to spot, it's tucked away in the corner of the plaza it's in. Came here late at night for dinner and drinks with a party of 7. Army stew was large but I thought the soup flavor was a bit bland. We asked for less spicy but I think the overall soup flavor wasn't quite there. Bulgogi fries were my favorite item we ordered with lots of sauce, cheese, and well-flavored bulgogi pieces but it was a bit too salty for my taste. Corn cheese was good but also a little on the salty side. Server was friendly but didn't come to check on us or refill waters or give napkins; we had to go up and ask each time.

Yelp
i'd say this is a great hidden gem if youre looking for a late night food place with alcoholic beverages in rowland heights! it's located at one of the corners in the stater bros. plaza, so it felt kind of hidden my party ordered their corn cheese (which came super hot and cheesy), regular french fries (loved them because theyre thin and crispy) and their mango sojurita! overall, it had a nice ambiance with good music and great food!

Yelp
Since Cafe Gunul closed down, Soju Tavern seems to be the place to go to for a Korean Pub. I came in with two friends and it was busy on a random Wednesday night. Sadly, there were two beers that were tapped out already. However, the beers we got were fine and price is standard. Service was good as the waitress came by frequently to make sure we were hydrated after all the beer consumption. Overall, not a bad place to go to for a chill night out.

Yelp
I did not expect to find a place like this in Rowland Heights! It is small, but it has a good vibe for drinking. At first we were seated right next to the entrance which is much brighter than the tables inside. We requested to move to those tables once it's available. We already had dinner so we did not order food this time. I ordered passionfruit sojurita and it's quiet an addicting flavor. I wish they also offer hookah, but that's just me. Parking was easy to find and would come back again if I'm in the area.

Zinnia V.

Yelp
Great bar vibes! It's dim lit and has flashy lights and gets crowded on any day. The food is good, nothing crazy stands out just good old bar food! WE Got the sojurita in lemon and it was delicious!

Paula H.

Yelp
Awesome place to visit when you want to chill with a group of people! We came here to watch the Timberwolves play the Mavs. They have happy hour from 5:00-8:00 PM for their drinks: $6 for pints, beer, and $10 for their soju. The California squeeze pint is delicious. I also got their kimchi fried rice and that hit the spot! It gets pretty spicy and is a little oily but it was just so tasty. Their kimchi pasta was pretty good too! Less spicy since there's some cheese in it. Service is great too! They were really attentive and always came to check in on us.

Kelly N.

Yelp
Service was amazing, food was tasty and had a good portion size. The place was dark and had loud music but you can still talk without having to shout. We ordered the following to share between 12: Spicy rice cake with cheese Bossam Chicken wings -sweet & spicy Chicken wings -soy Army stew Chicken gizzards Stir fried squid Seasoned Sea snail salad Popcorn chicken Our server also gave us a bottle of soju on the house after ordering 4 bottles, a pitcher of 805 and a bottle of Cloud.

Shwe N.

Yelp
reminds me of lab88/ vibes !! i lov calamari and anything remotely close to it -- big fan of the fried squid legs idk something about the batter is such good quality to me ^___^ other finger foods like popcorn chicken, kimchi fried rice, fries, etc. are also very yommy opens late at night and there mayyy be a waitlist depending on party size and time of the night ~

Sarah O.

Yelp
Ok wait... this is the new spot!!! I love everything about this spot. The food /ambience and customer service. My server was Andrew he was extremely knowledgeable on the menu and help my fiancé and I decide on the food we ordered. Great recommendations. It was all so yummy!! We will definitely be back and recommending this place !

George H.

Yelp
Food is decent and sake is good but value is questionable. Service is really good and our waitress was nice, even helped with taking group picture. Feels exactly like a tavern and music can get louder as the night progresses. Not a bad place to hangout among friends and watch the World Series!

Ernest M.

Yelp

Service: we came on a weeknight, the service was really friendly. Other servers were checking out on our table too to make sure we were good that made me happy. Ambiance: this place is urban vibes. Plenty of parking.

Yelp
Located in a big plaza across from Banana Bay is a small place that has been pretty good all the times I've came. Soju Tavern is just like its name as they have a lot of different Soju flavors here to get. Though they do offer many options for Soju, they also have food here as well or finger food. We usually go for their fried sampler which includes cheesesticks, fries, popcorn chicken and others. I haven't tried their other food here besides their fried sampler but food is good. Place is dark but sets the mood to just hang out with friends and enjoy the night. They do have seats outside as well as they're willing to set you up with a table if it does get crowded. Good drinks, good food, and good service is a great combination here.

Flora L.

Yelp
Pocha with really good food and a large selection of soju, cocktails, beers, and wines to choose from! I usually don't really enjoy food from Korean pubs but I was extremely impressed with theirs! The Kimchi Pasta was perfectly creamy with a good kimchi flavor. It wasn't too spicy and the kimchi flavor was not overpowering at all. The bulgogi fries were crispy and the beef was tender and not too sweet. Service was fast and the food came out really quickly. The staff were friendly and attentive. I liked their booth seats and the interior was dark. Perfect for a night of drinking!

Mike C.

Yelp
First time trying the sojurita and unless you're a heavyweight definitely bring another person with you because this thing is pretty strong. I got the passion fruit flavor and that mixed well with the soju. I do wish that the passion fruit was a little bit more sour. I also tried the chungha, which was a sparkling rice wine that was 7% alcohol. It tasted just okay, wouldn't get it again. Overall, decent place for drinks and food. Probably will be back to try their food.

Fanny S.

Yelp
This place is a super authentic Korean bar with tons of drinks and dishes. It's perfect for a night out with friends to drink and chat. Even though it's in a random plaza, it's totally worth checking out.

Trish H.

Yelp
Soju Tavern has a fun ambience with good music even on weekdays! It's definitely not a place for a quiet meal. Kimchi Pasta: 5/5 Creamy, spicy, and delicious!! Whole Chicken: 3/5 Decent, I found it bland and got tired of it quickly. Kimchi Stew: 4/5 Can't go wrong with kimchi stew! Generously portioned, plus they offer soup refills. I've been here twice and it's easily become one of my favorite pochas. There are many regulars, which says a lot about the quality and consistency. The servers are always friendly and attentive, adding to the overall positive experience!

Maryann D.

Yelp
Food was delicious, service is fast and ambience was cozy but gets busy at around 8pm

Amy L.

Yelp
We ordered : seafood pancake, fries, kimchi pasta, seafood pasta, bossam, galbi, chicken wings, steamed eggs, popcorn chicken, corn cheese, maybe more but I can remember. 6 sojus and 2 pitchers Food notes: kimchi pasta over seafood pasta. Their steamed egg was really thick it felt like they used a whole carton of eggs. They give alot of fries for $10. Bossam would've been better if they had they had the soft napa that's soaked in salt but they just give you normal Napa and lettuce Service was okay. I'm not sure if it was because it was busy but we asked for extra napkins a few times but didn't receive until later when everything was finished. They did come back to refill the waters multiple times though so that was very nice. Sorry no photos cause I was too hungry and ate first

Ashley M.

Yelp
Went here after seeing a friend of mines instagram story and was pleasantly surprised. Food was great big portions too! And soju was good as well. My husband and I are going to come back again.

Ly T.

Yelp
We love this place. We keep coming back. It has a nice vibe. Servers are always friendly and attentive. I was happy to find a new updated menu. We ordered the Korean Army (sausage) Stew with ramen this time. DELICIOUS!!!! Super hot! Plenty of ingredients including rice cake, spam, hot dog, cheese, onions, green onions, bean sprouts and ramen. I'm sure that I'm missing some more ingredients in the stew, but it was AMAZING. We shared it amongst two of us, and we thought it was plenty of food and paired well with our SAERO soju. We also ordered our usual: soft steamed eggs with cheese, of course... and the grilled whole squid with butter. Everything was delicious. Perfectly seasoned. Plenty of parking in the strip mall. We didn't have to wait at all. The place was clean and service was great. Will most definitely be back soon!

Jenn P.

Yelp
Really good food! The chicken had such a good flavor. They took out some bones so it was easier to eat. Staff were friendly and accommodating. They recommended the chicken and I didn't regret going with their choice. Went on a Monday at approximately 7pm, it was quiet but more people came in the later it got. Cool lights and trendy music, loved it!

Mica L.

Yelp
Actually really surprised at the quality of the food and how pleasant the service is. Definitely doesn't feel like a bar outside of the look and the music. Oddly enough, my kids love the whole Korean fried chicken and asked to eat it again lol. The bulgogi fries are fr fire though. We've also ordered the squid legs (which my kids love as well) and the seafood pasta which is a generous portion and pretty darn good.

Louis S.

Yelp
I enjoyed the vibes here. Had great korean street food and drinks, including soju and mixed soju drinks. Servers were very nice and accommodating and even gave us deals. Like the music they play here too, a good amount of rap. Good pocha and chill drinking spot

Bri B.

Yelp
GOOD PLACE FOR PUB FOOD AND SOJU I found soju tavern one day when my friends and I wanted to drink. This place was the only thing open in the area. The wait time was decent. We have a party of 4 so I would assume anything above that would be a longer wait. Soju was decently priced however the food was amazing. The ambiance takes me back to late night pochas in Korea. Will be coming back

Trung N.

Yelp
3.5 stars Let's be honest, there aren't a ton of drinking options that don't in include chain restaurants in Rowland/Hacienda Heights, so I'll take what I can get. With that prelude, Soju Tavern is a Korean watering hole complete with Korean bar food so basically my favorite kind of tavern. Came here with my sister on a Saturday night and it wasn't terribly busy. We shared the following: -French fries with bulgogi ($16.95) -Korean sausage stew ($30.00): Korean army stew -Korean whole fried chicken ($19) The food was very okay. The bulgogi fries were way too sweet for my liking. Bulgogi is already marinated in sweetness so combined with the sweet sauce drizzles, this was a bit much for my tastebuds. The fried chicken was a little off-putting due to an unforeseen chicken-y stench to the chicken. No thank you. Not a bad time, but the food could use a little help. It's the suburb K-town experience.

Salvador J.

Yelp
Well the food was good. The service was ok tbh. Server lagged on bringing some drinks for us. We had to get up and ask for them after taking a long time. The place is a cool spot. I would come again.

Chaille K.

Yelp
Fun spot to eat and grab some drinks with friends. Service here is great and very attentive. They do get busy but the great service never fails. Recommend the spicy mussel soup! Truffle or bulgogi fries Steamed egg! Those are the items I've tried so far and they're so yummy. Been here few times and even the regular patrons are so friendly. If you're looking for big group location call ahead so they can accommodate you.

BB S.

Yelp
Great find! Who would have known that there's a cool place to hang out in this area (haha). Amazing food! And the service!!!!! My new favorite spot!

Natalie L.

Yelp
A fun, lively atmosphere with flashing lights and Asian pop music. Service was attentive and friendly. Our server filled our drinks without asking, and she frequently stopped by to let us know she was available but didn't disrupt our dinner, which was perfect. Bathroom was clean. We ordered the popcorn chicken and beef tartare, both of which came with large portions. The popcorn chicken was excellent, well fried with no breading separating from the meat, and you can request a variety of dipping sauces with it. Beef tartare was decent, but I've had better. My critique for it is the garlic chunks are too large, so if you bite into the garlic chunk, it's far too strong. The tartare would be better if it were sliced more thinly as well. However, this is by far the largest portion of beef tartare I've ever seen, so the price was justified. Presentation for both dishes was cute. Bonus: Parking was very easy to find and free.

Cary L.

Yelp
Great place for food and hanging out after hours! This is a happening bar that will suit your appetite for some beer, soju, and yummy bar foods! Fried chicken? They got it. Tofu kimchi? They got it! Chicken gizzards? They got it. Fun times? They got it. Big laughs? They got it. Hot people? They got it. So poke your head in for a cold brew sky sometime soon! Thank you, Eric!

Diana D.

Yelp
Service, food, ambiance were all 10/10 for a late night bite. Pasta, wings, and bulgogi fries really hit the spot. Would come back again

Randall M.

Yelp
Came here for late night popcorn chicken and French fries both of which hit the spot. Be weary of the huge portions! Service was pretty good while I waited for my takeout. The tavern was pretty lit for a weeknight. I'll return.

Helen N.

Yelp
The food is always good and fulfilling. The decor gives club time with its lighting and is always a great place to socialize. Service is top notch.

Matthew H.

Yelp
Amazing service the food was great I would definitely recommend the seafood pasta. The music and vibes were amazing and all the servers were very attentive and friendly.

Mayra M.

Yelp
Came in at 9pm and the staff was very welcoming. Since our party just wanted a drink, we opted to stand by the small bar area. We were 6 standing and barely fit. Everyone is friendly, service is fast. Will definitely come again to eat and drink.

Tony H.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and food! A nice local place to hangout and have a good time. Service were also amazing!

Annie K.

Yelp
This is one of the few places that has good vibes, so many drink selections AND GOOD FOOOD. There's a drink for everyone from soju margaritas to that fresh fresh draft beeer. Celebrating my friends bday today and we're having a good time! Thank you so much to Eric, the service and staff is amazing!! Thanks for making it such a great experience for us :) we'll be back!

Calvin H.

Yelp
great food, great service, and great vibes. plu, ib, fab, and eric are always creating a welcome environment for a casual night of drinking. highly recommend the bulgogi fries!

Linh T.

Yelp
Sojurita was why we wanted to try this place. We had the passion fruit flavor, it was delicious! The SLO Brew orange Hefe was very refreshing. Food portion was HUGE, we ordered 3 dishes for 2 of us and it was a lot, more like for 4 people. Everything we ordered was tasty. This is a nice place to hang out with friends and chat through the night. Opens till 2am. Such a gem in a non-busy strip mall.

Rocio B.

Yelp
At first I thought this was a bar. But when they sat us down , I notice that it's a chill -cool bar/restaurant. Very cool! If you want to explore your horizons /pallet, I recommend this place. Great food .

Abby L.

Yelp
One of the better pochas to hangout with friends since service is great, food is a good portion & value, parking is easy and the drinks are also delicious. I took my friends here and they loved it more than other places since the food is actually delicious rather than just focusing on the drink selection. It's also smaller inside but doesn't feel cramped at all, it's very cozy & intimate with good atmosphere.

Seong I.

Yelp
This is my 2nd time here!!! The server Tom remembered our names. Thats was awesome. We came to try new Stuff. We tried the fries with truffle parmesean. It was something that goes with my drinks. And also the soju cocktail bong bong was pretty good. Man this place is becoming my 아지트.

Fitha T.

Yelp
Went there for the first time and I have to say the vibe was chill. The service was great. Food was amazing, the portion was good portion. Will definitely come back

Alexzander N.

Yelp
Our waiter, Abraham, is a G. Best waiter ive ever had. He took shots with us (per our request) and was very attentive. Food was great too. Highly recommended, will be coming back JUST for the service!

Tim C.

Yelp
Newly opened establishment and had to give it a try and it was a very positive experience for my wife and I! We had the pork trotters and it was a huge plate of food and the side dishes that accompanied this dish was plentiful with great tasting sauces! We also had their kimchi stew which basically is Koreans Army soup..... loved it! Variety of choices of alcohol for those who likes to drink and. I liked their music and overall atmosphere is chill, relaxing but they can use more shades on their west facing windows cuz I was getting blasted during sunset hours but I didn't mind it and it's totally not an issue at all! Give this place a try....I know I will be back for sure!

Lorna L.

Yelp
My first time here :) This place is amazing - delicious food and drinks! And Eric has shown great hospitality to us (and everyone as I observed!) Food: Corn cheese (5/5 the caramelised cheese omgggggg don't miss this! One of the best corn cheese I've ever had!), Grilled whole squid w/ butter (3.5/5 slightly dried), soy wings (4/5) , kimchi pasta (5/5 super creamy w/ a good balance of kimchi flavor!! Must eat!!) Drink: Had a few pitchers of SLO Brew and Blue Moon, also tried their Sojuritas! Sojuritas are sooooo good, we love the Peach and Pineapple ones! Ambiance: Got there around 10ish on a Saturday evening, 70% occupied, not overly crowded. Music/TV is slightly too loud for chatting though.

Tammye B.

Yelp
Wow, the portions are pretty big. Tried this place for the first time and was not disappointed. The only thing I would mention is the Sojurita is on the sweeter side. My favorite dish was the fries. They reminded me of McDonalds.

Amanda N.

Yelp
I LOVE LOVE LOVEEE going here considering I'm always hungry later at night when I'm around the area. This is my go to place when I'm craving soup or just something yummy to eat. Everything is amazing before and after they switched the names maybe even management i don't know. The workers are always on top of it and they handle everything perfectly. All the lights are a the only thing I feel is off putting but still amazzzinnggg overall. I wish more people would come probably cus it's a awkward spot in the plaza. But secretly better for me cus little no wait
