The Glasses at Tokyo’s Bar Gen Yamamoto Are Worth Ordering from Japan | Eater

"A tiny Asakusa storefront packed floor to ceiling with sparkling crystal, razor-thin tumblers, elegant stemware, and tables crowded with strainers, bar spoons, and jiggers; crates of glassware often spill into the doorway. Favored by Tokyo bartenders for its singular, hard-to-find pieces, it’s the kind of cocktail-enthusiast shop where professionals source the delicate vessels used at top cocktail bars, including sets from the Kikatsu line." - Samantha Weiss Hills

I paid for 2 people for the edo kiriko glass etching class through klook and would highly recommend! We arrived a little late having gone to the wrong location. The class is held upstairs next to the store and the teacher was so kind and let us use a practice glass before going for the real design we wanted on our glass. She also spoke Japanese and English so it was very easy to communicate. The class is small for a maximum of 6 people but that was perfect for us so the teaslcher could be more with each person. Several color glass options for a little more but definitely worth it! Great experience!

Edo Kiriko Glass Cutting Experience - Booked the experience voucher through Klook and am always satisfied with their clear instructions on how to get to the venue. Conveniently located just 1 min walk from Exit 4 of Asakusa Station on Ginza Line. The ground floor is a shop front, where the staff greets you then led me up to the workshop area on Level 2, just beside the shop. You'll have to remove your shoes there and given room slippers. The session started with me choosing the shape & size of my glass, from a selection of shot glass, sake glass, to whisky and regular, with a variety of colours too. Klook's package only includes the experience and the most basic clear glass. For other colours and shapes, you'll have to top up. I paid another JPY1100 for mine. After choosing the glass, I was asked to select the base design, most of which they have stencils for, or for the artistically inclined, you can also draw your own. The instructor then went on to do a live demo on how to use the buffering machine, then I got to practice a few rounds before doing it on my glass. The instructor was extremely patient and encouraging, constantly reassuring me with 'oh very nice, very cute, very good'. While it appears to be a group activity, with 5 of us during my session, the instructor was largely attending to us individually. While she showed me how to use the machine, the rest were choosing their designs, then while I practice, she did the demo for whoever was ready next. I like the personal attention and she also kindly help fix one of my Sakura petals which had a jagged edge cause I lost hold. Once it's all done, she cleaned up the glass and they even provide a photo area with proper lighting and white backdrop where you can take pretty photos and videos. Once you are done, it gets wrapped up with foam and packed into a box nicely. The entire experience took almost 90 mins, I enjoyed it very much and am happy to have my very own, exclusive Edo Kiriko Glass. The machine is also very safe and easy to use, just takes time to perfect the control of strength and direction.

Such a great experience! I am a super artsy person and this was something I had never done before. The group only had 5 of us in total. The teacher was very patient showing us how to use the machine, encouraging us and giving us tips on how to achieve each design. You get to choose whatever glass you like (different shapes, colours, sizes and weight) then you get to pick a design to etch in the bottom, and all around the glass. I used the whole allotted time to complete my glass design. At the end you can photograph it and they will box it all up safely for you to travel with. I bought my ticket through klook in advance and paid a little extra for the glass I wanted.

We did the Edo Kiriko Glass Cutting Workshop that we booked off of Klook and had an absolutely amazing experience! It was one of the highlights of our trip to Japan! very very cool and intimate experience learning a traditional Japanese glass cutting technique. Our teacher was awesome, he was very clear, honest, and supportive. He also gave us as much time as we needed to practice on the practice glasses. Such an amazing and cool experience, and you get a handmade souvenir! I highly highly recommend this experience, especially if this is your first trip to Japan!

Definitely recommend coming here. The staff was super friendly and guided us through the whole process, giving hands-on instruction when needed. It was my first time, but it felt manageable with the instruction, and I got into a flow state. Would definitely go back. And the souvenir shop on the ground floor is super cute to peruse as well! I signed up for the edo kiriko glass workshop online. They emailed me the confirmation for the class. Most of it was in Japanese but I manage to get through with Google Translate. The class was super fun. The instructor spoke English and was able to guide me through the process. It was harder than it looks and I made many mistakes. However, I got a fantastic experience to remember and a cup that still looked great overall. Highly recommend the 90 minute workshop.
