"In Marin, “la comida criolla,” the food of Puerto Rico, is synonymous with Sol Hernandez, who holds down the fort at the San Rafael and equally popular Mill Valley restaurants. Don’t be surprised by the lines at both locations (they move fast) and queue up for mofongo and shrimp or pork chops and pickled pink onions. All combination plates are served with rice, beans, and fried green plantains with addictive garlic sauce. But be sure to add a splash of the house-made pique sauce, for an extra hit of spice." - Christina Mueller

Tasty food, friendly service, clean atmosphere. We got the Cubano, the Steak and Onion Bistec, rotisserie chicken, side salad, cilantro lime mayo, fries, and the pico hot sauce. The food was all great. We mixed the pico hot sauce with the cilantro lime mayo for dipping the fries into and dunking our sandwiches. The service was friendly and fast. The staff seemed to be smiling and happy. The whole house seemed to run like a well oiled machine. Ladies in teh front were knokcing out in person and online orders while the guys in the back were cooking and cleaning up a storm. The decor was nice and the place was clean. No seating at this location, but there is seating at their other locations.

Ordered ahead for takeout, 20 minute wait. Good hot sauce on the side. Bistec sandwich and Paraíso sandwich both had only one slice of meat, not worth the price. Get the plate instead There is inside seating by the window

I’ve been a longtime fan of Sol Food in San Rafael—the food there is consistently excellent. However, the Mill Valley location has been a major disappointment. In our last three visits, they’ve messed up our pickup order every single time. That’s not bad luck—that’s a pattern of carelessness. We drive over an hour to get to this location, and after yet another frustrating experience, we’ve likely made our last trip. If you want the real Sol Food experience, skip this spot and head to one of their other locations. To make matters worse, management resisted issuing a refund for an item they failed to include in our order. Hopefully, they’ll do the right thing and refund what we paid for but never received. When you’re charging $28 for a half chicken meal, the least you can do is double-check the order.

Got the Paraíso sandwich that was really tasty. The sauce and plantains weren't evenly distributed within the sandwich. I think because it was takeout it made the eating experience less than optimal. Would be interested in going to the locations with dine in next time. A little on the pricy side for takeout only but the portions are pretty large and everything tastes fresh.

Google
Sol Food is definitely worth a visit, especially for their must-try chicken sandwich with the special pink sauce—it’s packed with flavor and absolutely delicious! The bread is fresh and super good, adding to the overall quality of the sandwich. While the prices are a bit on the higher side, the fast service and tasty food make up for it. A great spot for a quick but satisfying meal!

Beware of the most expensive items come either with eyes and bones like the fish and the prawn soup is super small. I had to toss the fish it grossed me out seeing the whole fish with eyes and all when I opened the box. I tasted it and it was not good.

Google
It's just a takeout counter so you walk in, order food and leave. There are no seats. There's a patch of grass in the parking lot that people picnic under. Food was solid.

Google
Sol Food is a must-stop if you're even remotely close. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is electric, and the staff are excellent. You can't go wrong with anything on the extensive menu, and their Pique hot sauce makes literally any food even better. If you haven't been yet, go. And if you have, see you there again soon! :)

Yelp
Great takeout place with friendly service. I ordered the camerones criollos combination plate with tostones. Flavor was really nice, heavy on the tomatoes with a hint of spice. I wish there was more rice to soak up the sauce with! I do wish the nearly $16 meal came with more than just three prawns though. The person taking our order was super patient and kindly explained the different options to us.

Yelp
To begin with Sol Food is fun. Lots of bright colors and vibrant ambiance. Had the Cubano - delicious. Shrimp Salad good too. No table service. Order at the register, NO DIET COKE!!! No diet drinks period. Lots of water haha

Yelp
I've been eating at Sol Food for years. One at San Rafael and the other at Mill Valley. Their food are really delicious and unforgettable. I always ordered my favorite dish, the Bistec Encebollado almost every single time. Their Limonada Fresca is incredibly refreshing and big! The service's great and it's tragically pick-up only now. I remember eating there but, nowadays, you can't. That's one of reason for one missing star. But there is ONE big additional reason I got really peeved. I have in the past always ordered the same dish including tostones instead of plantains or french fries. Now, they cannot do that. I was fuming hard inside and will not accept this insipid changes. I want my freakin' tostones to my Bistec Encebolladooooooo!!! Keep the french fries out of my sight! So, the next time I check youse guys out and you keep up doing that, you'll loose a star and I'll stop recommending your joint to my buddies. ¿Entendido!? :-|

Yelp
I've had the pleasure of having Sol Food in San Rafael last summer, and I've thought about it since. A year later, I'm back in NorCal this time at the Mill Valley location. Food is great a both locations and made quickly. At this location everything is packaged to go and there's no seating area. I can confidently say the only thing that sets both locations apart is customer service. I ordered an ice coffee and at $6.50 you'd think they'd be more compliant with making it the way you want. When asking to please dump some out and add more ice coffee because it was way too milky for my liking it became a whole ordeal the manager had to take over. Still unhappy with my coffee i just accepted it. So, unless you'd like some coffee with your milk I'd suggest getting your fix elsewhere. Food is great. Vibes are off.

Yelp
There was hair in two food boxes. The cook not only is grumpy but not hygienic either. The staff doesn't smile and is rude. It wasn't a good experience just picking up food there. Sadly you can't eat there and if you even eat a fry, there is someone to scold you. I was so hungry by the time we got to a nearby park 2 min away that I ignored the hair. Then ate the shrimp and it was super dry. This was like jerky not shrimp. The plantains were cardboard also. The beans were salty and the rice was soggy. I was told to go here and I was very disappointed. I couldn't finish my meal and had to go back and demand to use the bathroom because I got sick from the food. My body rejected the half eaten meal. My friend who's from Puerto Rico made a joke about how I got the full travel experience by eating here. Haha. Not funny.

Yelp
I love the defiant bright green exterior ! There is always a long line but it moves fairly quickly... community tables to share seating...kind of self-serve & not a lot of vegan selections but the veggie stew is so good but not made on a regular basis ! Plantains can be sweet &/ or savory or one of each ! Oddly there is a take-out counter next door to the restaurant but there's always lines @ both ?!

Yelp
Food is amazing, best Puerto Rican food in SF Bay Area. Note that this location doesn't have any dine-in seating.

Yelp
This was my first time at this location and had only been to San Rafael. I placed an order a day ahead online so that after our Muir Woods visit, I could just pick up the food. Because I was at Muir Woods, I didn't get the voicemail from Sol telling me they were out of a dish I had ordered until later. When I picked up my order, a young man gave me the bag and had I not asked if that was it, he wouldn't have looked to see it was two bags. He also failed to tell me about the dish that wad missing. I didn't get the voicemail until after I left. I was disappointed with this oversight because I was depending on that dish to feed my kid. Otherwise, the food wad packed well for travel and it wasn't totally cold by the time we ate it (10 min after pick up). Everyone loved the ribs (costillas) and the sandwiches.

Abigael K.

Yelp
I absolutely love the bistec sandwich. It had the perfect amount of flavor. The steak was very tender and the dipping sauce that came on the side was perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The sweet plantains were also good and the side order gives you a good amount so you could split as a side with someone else. The location in Millvalley is just a to go location and there aren't many good places to eat right outside so just have a plan to either bring it home or go somewhere else to eat it.

Yelp
Came after a hike in Mt Tam, along with what seemed to be everyone else! It's takeout only, there's a couple registers so we mostly waited outside to order, then waited about 10 minutes to get our food after. The menu is big (almost intimidatingly big) but mostly centers around the proteins and sides like plantains, rice, and beans. It is vegetarian friendly! (Our group had two.) I ordered the bistec sandwich, a side of tostones con mojo + avocado, and the ponche. I found the food to be fine, maybe underwhelming for the steep price (this came out to about $30!!!) The steak in my bistec sandwich was pretty tough, I couldn't really eat it without the meat sliding out of the bread and destroying the sandwich infrastructure. The tostones were super under-seasoned - garlic was present but no salt that I could taste. The sauce was good but couldn't really compensate given how many tostones I got (which was a plus, three big ones.) Avocado on top was not worth imo. The ponche was recommended by the cashier and that actually slapped, just right after a long hike. I tried my partner's pink beans and thought they were just okay. Overall I was kind of disappointed in the food. If it wasn't so expensive I would recommend it as a good stop to get a lot of food at least. Maybe next time I'd come for the drink and some sides (and maybe will bring my own salt and pepper.)

Yelp
We picked up a light lunch here this past Sunday, for takeout since there is no dine-in option available, no seating at all. Service was pretty standard, not the friendliest, but gave appropriate instructions about where and how to order, etc. There was a small line of customers going out the door, but it went by quickly. And the wait for our food wasn't too long either. We got the ensalada con pollo, with juicy and delicious baked chicken and fresh veggies. The lemon dressing didn't have much flavor, kind of just tasted like oil, but it was fine. The small sized salad was more than enough for one person. But I didn't finish cuz the salad was a bit dry, and I wasn't about to drench it in "oil". I did appreciate that they packed the warm chicken separately from the salad greens in our to-go bag. Overall a positive experience, and a good option to have for Puerto Rican cuisine.

Christina W.

Yelp
Just ordered the Sandwich de Pollo ($13.95) and although it tasted good (but not great or mind blowing), the sandwich was slapped together and one of the tomatoes was outside and on top of the sandwich. Grilled onions weren't drained well, so the sandwich was very greasy halfway through. This place missed the mark for me because as a to-go place, the service was bad when they forgot about our order. Saying "oops looks like it slipped through the cracks", then haphazardly tossing together a greasy sandwich in 2 minutes shows lack of quality and customer care after waiting 30 minutes. Won't be back since nothing else on the menu interested me and hard for me to give this place another shot, but hopefully they figure out their operations and improve their sandwich prep. They should also have a separate pickup window instead of having employees walk in and out of the same area ppl are coming in to order. The ordering in person was inefficient with one person at a time entering. Just meh.

Robert G.

Yelp
Wow, what a flavor explosion! Sol Food truly captures the essence of Puerto Rican cuisine. The Arroz con Pollo was absolutely divine - tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. Next time I'm going to order one of their ice tea to make it a perfect complement. The service was friendly and attentive, plus their web site is very easy for take out. If you're craving authentic Puerto Rican food, this is the place to go!

Yelp
So I promised I'd try their other food next time I visited... SO I DID :] This time went to the Mill Valley location which was AWESOME. It is take-out only, BUT there is PLENTY of parking, short lines, and it's a very quiet neighborhood. Don't have the hassle of long lines in the middle of the street like their other location I've been to. I wanted to try out new dishes this time, so I chose the Chuletón and Paraiso. Good thing I got the Paraiso, because it sold out later in the day!!! The Chuletón was great, it was very mayo heavy and the porkchop was only lightly seasoned so it was good alone, but great with their vinegar/hot sauce to dip the sandwich in! The Chuletón has pan fried pork chop, sautéed onions, mayo, and Jack cheese on French toasted bread. It was a thin slice of meat, but it was a good ratio to the sandwich itself. The Paraiso was delicious also, it has sweet plantain, pink mayo, jack cheese, thinly sliced steak and sauteed onions on bread, not sure if it was french toasted bread also or not. Also not sure what makes the pink mayo... pink haha. It was tasty, felt like less mayo than the Chuletón. I didn't like it as much as the Chuletón because the plantain was very sweet and I happened to be feeling a savory dish today, not a sweet & savory haha. The small fries was the perfect size to share with 2. The large fries you should have 4~5 to share with. It was real thick potato slices with the skin on, fresh and good. However, I wish it was cooked longer so that it was crispy, it wasn't crispy at all. Next time I might ask for double cooked or something to make it more cooked and crispier! No seating at all, but there were plenty of other people eating in the car like us!

Yelp
Went hiking in the area, and have always wanted to try Sol Food Puerto Rican food. Glad to see they're open every day, and perfect for brunchy lunch. I walked in with my pup, but was quickly redirected out to order as they have a No dogs policy for sanitary reasons, which was a bummer but totally understandable. I was kind of surprised since Mill Valley is very dog-friendly. There were a lot of us ordering takeout, but a few people did walk in so I'm assuming they have a dine-in area. Their menu is extensive, but don't let that overwhelm you. I was hangry so I wanted a hearty sandwich, and went with one of their top sellers the Bistec sandwich. The sweet employee who helped me also said that their Nino Pobre (their version of the po' boy) and Cubano are some top favorites. I also got a regular side of their papas fritas aka fries, and HOLY MOLY. Their fries are probably the best I've had. Thicker side, fried with fresh non-frozen potatoes like in-n-out does it, and it was SO delightful. I could order a vat of their fries and be a happy girl. Highly rec getting their fries. They have a huge parking lot, so you won't be fighting for a spot. I think Sol Food will be a staple for post-hike noms. Prep for a finger-lickin' good time. The brief moment I walked into their store, it was clean and bright. Lots of smiling and kind staff too. You're getting quality ingredients and fresh foods repping Puerto Rico. Would def be back, GREAT spot to order for to-go if that's what you're looking for. Gotta get their fries and you really can't go wrong with anything else on the menu.

Yelp
I really enjoy going to this restaurant and every time I've gone I always forget to take pictures. So I posted some this time. The service is quick even though it's always crowded there. The wait staff is always pleasant and attentive. The food is delicious. You will not be disappointed if you go to the original establishment here and I understand that they've opened another one north of Mill Valley, which I'm sure is just as delicious. Bon appetit!

Yelp
Sol food for my 50th review!! We stopped here on the way home from a little hike in Tiburon and we all got the same thing. The combination platter with tamales. It came with rice, a salad, pork, tamales, and some dipping sauce. Pork and rice 9/10 Dipping sauce 8/10 Salad with dressing 7/10 Tamales 7/10 (I prefer traditional Mexican tamales) I would absolutely come back here again, and would try a different combination. I think the meat is great and you can tell it is high quality food. I wish they had seating inside but it is still great eating it at home :)

Ilena A.

Yelp
I am continually impressed at how much this place rules! I have even been to the new Petaluma location which is wonderful and spacious. I went recently with my mom who has several food allergies and she easily navigated the menu and the staff was extremely helpful. She is definitely a fan. The food is so good I have to have it consistently. My favorite is the pollo horno. The Limonata Fresca is one of my favorite drinks of all time. Excited for my next visit!

Scott W.

Yelp
Please get the sweet plaintanes. They are the best I have ever had. Service was fast and kind. Restaurant is small and not many places to eat comfortably. Had to go to Sycamore to enjoy eating while sitting down.

D L.

Yelp
I was hoping to contact the owners privately to share feedback to spare a negative review, but there is no online 'contact us' section to do so. I have eaten at Sol Food (both MV & San Rafael locations) countless times over the years & I love the food. Today I got takeout at the MV location and the maduros (sweet plantains) in my order & my friend's order was the consistency and appearance of mashed sweet potatoes. When I opened my order I didn't know what I was looking at. The consistency was mushy and the piece of plantains were indistinguishable. It looked/tasted like it was leftover from the day before and overcooked. It was very disappointing. I will continue to eat here but somebody needs to do quality control on the food.

Shama A.

Yelp
The best Puerto Rican food I've had! We usually order several large a la carte dishes which include the pollo rostado, papas fritas, arroz blanco, frijoles negros, mariquitas, ensalada de pollo frio, and the cilantro-lime mayo. Sol Food is consistently good, and the recipes are very closely followed. Having ordered food from here about 20 times, I've never had a mistake in flavor or presentation. Savory and delicious! I gave Sol Food 4 stars because it lacks ambiance. It's a quick eat spot if needed, but we usually pick up and take out to the beach or elsewhere. Great service, always! Not a bad word to say here. Don't forget to grab a bottle of Pique to take home! This pique sauce is a quintessential requirement when eating at Sol Food.

Joe B.

Yelp
Love this place . Real delicious food . No reason to go anywhere else . They got it all., I highly recommend them . I haven't found something I don't like in their menu so try everything. Soups , sandwiches, plates , desserts and that punch drink is

Alyson E.

Yelp
been going to the original san rafael sol food since 2006. this place is a pickup restaurant not a sit down. nonetheless the food is still just as great as i remember. portion was large, definitely half with a friend or save for the next meal. mexican coke was pretty pricey but you got to try it worth the sandwich. also, you MUST try the side of hot sauce. it makes the sandwich worth remembering!

Shilpa H.

Yelp
Where have I been? This place is delicious! I came here after a hike at Muir Woods. Perfect post-hike takeout spot. It's in a plaza with plenty of parking out front and in the back. I believe they offer dine-in on occasion, but when we went (on a busy Saturday), it was takeout only. The only con is that there is not a single outdoor table, bench, or chair to sit and eat at in the plaza. I hope they change this. We brought picnic blankets and were able to post up on a small patch of grass by the parking lot. But the grass was wet, so I recommend a waterproof blanket. Also beware of bees! I got the highly rated Bistec sandwich which comes on a French roll, with thinly sliced steak, sautéed onions, avocado, pink mayo, Swiss cheese, and a side of red sauce. A small sandwich was $14.45 + tax but it was surprisingly big (large size is $19.95). I also got a small side of fries ($3.95) which also was quite large, so the portion sizes here are great! I'm not sure what the red sauce that comes on the side is made of, but it kind of tastes like a vinaigrette. Delicious on the sandwich! The meat and all the flavors work so well. But the sauce is very liquidy and drips through the sandwich, so expect a messy meal! If you like a saucy sandwich with sweet and savory flavors, this is for you! Overall, great food (and good customer service), despite the lack of seating. They have two other locations in San Rafael and Petaluma as well. I hope they come to SF!

Savanah L.

Yelp
BEST Cubano I've ever had!! My my mouth is watering reminiscing on how good it was. It was a fat packing of pork with the perfect amount of mustard and pickles. The fries here are also super tasty and they give a decent size portion. One thing I didn't love was the mofongo- it was really dry in my opinion. This place is a must stop when in Marin

Mel N.

Yelp
Sol Food in Mill Valley is takeout only! We came expecting seating, but you just order at the window and take your food to go. We heard a lot of great things about Sol Food, and had high expectations, but the food was just decent for us: we got the bistec sandwich and pollo al horno plate with garlic and sweet plaintains and pink beans. Firstly, the portion sizes are great! Huge servings and too much food for two people (note we got two pieces of chicken for the plate and the large sandwich). The rice and chicken were solid, and the plaintains were good. My main gripe was about the meat in the bistec sandwich; for some reason it was unbearably chewy. I was so looking forward to this dish but it just fell flat because of the tough meat! Wish I could give a higher rating

Jeanette L.

Yelp
I came here a while in the area and wanting some yummy Latin American food. I checked online and it stated they had seating but I think that was an oversight as this place is very much takeout only. The food was as delicious as the San Rafael location and I appreciated the large parking lot for ease of access. I always go for either the Cuban sandwich or some form of delicious sandwich. My husband opted for the sandwich that included steak, onions, and cheese. It was so delicious!

Bradley B.

Yelp
Hard to argue with the hype and other reviews for Sol Food. The bistec sandwich deserves all the recognition it gets and I always leave a happy customer. Both locations offer great service.

Theresa L.

Yelp
Delicious sandwiches! Sauces are so flavorful and I don't even like beans, but the beans here I completely finished with my meal. They also have fried plantains which were yummy too. There isn't seating inside so it's more of a grab and go situation, but it's a great meal to grab post hike (which is what I did!) and we ate the food once we got home. When we went to get our food, there were a bunch of other people ordering as well so this is a pretty popular spot :)

Inigo M.

Yelp
Still best in class but this location sadly doesn't do dine-in anymore, only takeout. Probably because their NIMBY neighbors bitched and moaned, just like these classist assholes canceled this same location's outdoor dining (some simple counter space and benches outside the store) some years ago-- Marin County in a nutshell.

Christina J.

Yelp
Pollo de horno :Pretty good Plantains we're solid Cubano sando is still my favorite though

Roger P.

Yelp
There's multiple locations but this is the only one that's only providing take-out. Luckily, there's a park nearby and we took advantage of a beautiful day to eat outside. Food comes out quick here! I ordered the small Bistec sandwich. The difference between small and large was just more slices of beef in the sandwich but the small already has a good amount. I actually couldn't even finish both halves of the sandwich. The sandwich itself was pretty decent, steak was tender, very saucy. In fact, it's a pretty messy sandwich so I wouldn't eat this in the car while driving. The sandwich also comes with a dipping sauce. It was kind of like a watery sweet and sour/vinegary but with a spicy kick. I also ordered some plantain chips to share with the group. Really good! And even better as a snack for later. The salt distribution wasn't that even so you would get some plain ones on the top and then really salty pieces on the bottom. Shake it up a bit before you dig in. Besides the sandwich, they also have a ton of other things on their menu. If I lived in the area, I would've liked to come here every so often to try something new.

Adam G.

Yelp
I eat here almost weekly - how could you not? Get the pollo sando add avocado, garlic plantains with cheese avocado and tomatoes, extra pink sauce, and a biztec sando. I eat half of each sando and save the rest for lunch the next day. Other great items are the 2 piece chicken, half chicken plate, shrimp plate, pink beans, the list goes on and on. P.S. The Pique sauce is amazing. I used to have my parents send me bottles of it when I was away at college.

Megan P.

Yelp
I come here frequently and normally love it. I ordered a pollo frio sandwich today togo. When I got back to my office to eat it I realized it was a sandwich with ham on it. I don't eat pork so very disappointing.

Amrita S.

Yelp
Got takeout from here for lunch. Ordered the pollo horno with one piece of chicken which was actually PLENTY for one person, given the portion size. The meat was tender and flavorful. The rice that came with it looked bland and average but was actually super soft, flavorful, and moist! The SAUCES at this place are next level. You must get the pique in particular. Not sure if they're home made or bought but wow so delicious and I'm not even a huge fan of spicy food! Friends got the limonada which they loved. Looked super refreshing. Will definitely be ordering from here again when I'm in the area :)

Alexis C.

Yelp
Came here with a bunch of my neighbors after we went on a hike together at Rodeo Beach since we had heard good things about the place. Each family in our group spent around $100/per family on various menu items and no one in our group was impressed. Many members in my neighborhood hike group who all love food sadly ended up throwing away a lot of their food. Very bland flavors. -The salad that came with my meal was just a basic spring mix thrown into a box. The dressing it came with was very minimal and had next to no flavor. The supposed flavor was lemon garlic dressing. -The fries were awful. Probably the worst fries I've ever tasted. Definitely have had better tasting fries from fast food restaurants. -Criollas a la crate: the sauce was decent, shrimp over cooked. -San Juan special sandwich: Meat was overcooked and almost was like a gray color. -Camarones Empanizados: Nothing special about to me. Just ordinary fried food. -The black beans that came with my meal: nothing great about. Tasted just like ordinary black beans out of a can. Nothing special. I think the only item I enjoyed out of the $100 we wasted was my Jamaica Iced Tea. There's no indoor dining here, and very minimal outdoor seating. Myself and my neighbors definitely won't be returning. There's so many better food places in the Bay area that are worth spending $100 on for food with way better flavors.

Amanda G.

Yelp
If you haven't heard of Sol Food you must not be from the North Bay. This is an absolute staple to locals. Delicious reasonable priced food. Their best location is in San Rafael but I love the convenience of this location. I was almost going to give a four star because there are no chairs or places to sit here. This is strictly a to-go location. But their food is just so good it's easy to overlook. Also a great alternative to get food quick versus their always busy other location. I always get a full rotisserie as meal prep for the week, ponche, and their pique sauce. I recommend stocking up on their sauce because it's sooooo good and goes great on everything. I highly recommend getting some food to go and taking it to eat on a nearby trail. My favorite is out in Mill Valley. It's become a tradition!

Michelle H.

Yelp
Always Good Food!! I Miss Sol Food and I live in North Scottsdale, AZ now and Very Unlikely to ever return to California Sadly. From what I remember sol food was really good. Authentic Puerto Rican Fare... Full of flavor that is familiar to what you'd expect. Maybe one day I will go back for a Visit... hopefully sol food will still be there. Enjoy.

Ten H.

Yelp
Came here after hiking Muir Woods and the food definitely hit the spot. One thing to note is this location is takeout only and the San Rafael location is the dine in location. I didn't have signal within the park to check before I came here so plan accordingly. I ordered the Bistec and it was super dense. You have the option of one slab of meat or two, and from my experience one slab was more than enough to give me a food coma.

Janene V.

Yelp
Great place for informal meal, mostly sandwiches, but very filling and tasty. Great Caribbean spice. A must try if you're in the north bay and in the mood for delicious Puerto Rican food.

david p.

Yelp
Mushy tomatoes? I've always rated this place a 5. I ordered the small chicken salad. Chicken large portion, juicey, tastes great, fresh avacado pickled onions everything but the tomatoes really good. That said, when eating a salad one item can throw it all off. I wrote this only to give management a heads up.

Jason R.

Yelp
The food is very good. A little pricey, but good. Last experience wasn't so good. I ordered a large limeade, no ice. Prior to my paying the screen showed limeade with no size listed. I asked the server to confirm it is large. He said there was only one size. I asked him to show me the cup and he did. When my order came, my drink was in a smaller cup. I asked the manager why the drink wasn't in the cup that had been shown to me. He told me that when a person orders with no ice, they get a smaller cup. Sounds kind of cheap. Also sounds deceitful considering I have asked to see the cup prior to my finishing the order. I used to eat here every couple of months. Maybe I'll come back someday, but not anytime soon.

Yelp
I was one of 10 ordering take ot. 3 of us ordered Cameron's Empanados. They were burned or they used old burned blackish oil . At 18.95 x 3 it was giant disappointment and expense. They don't have sit down anymore so you don't know if your food even looks and smells okay. The rest of my quests got good food but we three only had expensive burned shrimp jerky. We had to settle for the rice and beans and salad. Even the plantings were like hockey pucks. Once upon a time they were flavorful. Is it the location versus the San Rafael one. Or is the kitchen not fallowingbest cooking techniques. Anyway my food and some others food was horrible.all I could think of is that you have to know what to order or you will be disappointed. The San Rafael dine in store has better quality control which explaines the long lines. Overall. The MV outlet is too chancy for a large dinner group. Someone will invaribly be disappointed. The kids didn't eat the plantings. Too tough. The food is fairly expensive to have questionable quality.

Yelp
Everything here is delicious, expect to pay a pretty penny but well worth it and highly recommend. From the sandwiches to the plates to the beverages. All thumbs up! Don't forget to try the spicy vinegar sauce. Wish they brought back indoor dining :( but if you're in town pls check it out hehe

Yelp
I have not eaten at this location for a few years and didn't think to check the website, etc. Interesting that they no longer have indoor/outdoor seating of any kind. Service was fairly quick and friendly, food was good, but they definitely prefer you stand and wait outside for your order. It doesn't appear to be a labor shortage as there were seemingly ample staff. Maybe the clean up, maintenance, etc. of the seating area didn't cover the revenues, but it left me feeling "meh" about the experience.

Yelp
A fantastic meal after hiking the dipsea trail. Despite the bistec steak being a bit tough, the sandwich as a whole was juicy and very flavorful. I've ordered it twice and I'm never disappointed. The plantains that came with it were also great but prefer the sweeter ones than the savory which is flat and dry. Dine-in is currently not available at the moment so we had to make due with a parking lot meal. Still delicious but just a bit messy.

Yelp
Food is pretty good. Service is not. A bit pricey for what you get. Beans felt canned.

Yelp
Some of the best food I've had in the Bay. Sol Food is a gem!! We were able to place our order fairly quickly and did not wait long for our food. Our meal was outasight--a perfect Cubano, steak plate, and maduros and tostones con mojo to round things out. Every bite was phenomenal. We will happily return for more!

Yelp
After an epic Dipsea hike or any hike in Marin calls for amazing food to reward yourself with. Sol Food is an amazing choice. For this location, the turnaround is much faster than the San Rafael location but they do not have everything so there's that. Service is Super helpful and friendly, they even recommended trying the plantains two ways since he could tell I was indecisive. Recommend: Bistec sando Quick tip: it's easy to order in advance online or in person. There is no outdoor seating (but if they did, I'd give them the full stars!)
