Best New and Most Anticipated North Bay Restaurants Right Now | Eater SF

"I read that Sol Hernandez is opening a third location in downtown Petaluma in late February; the eponymous business is known for tostones-swaddled shrimp po-boys, mofongo, and other Puerto Rican favorites, and the new spot should help shorten the long lines often seen at the Mill Valley and San Rafael locations." - Christina Mueller

Best part of our experience was the food! We ordered the Pollo Rostizado (whole chicken), large sides of the rice and the beans, sweet plantains, and Mofongo Relleno De Camerones (shrimp with mashed plantains & salad). All the dishes were very good! Party of 5, and it was enough for all of us. Spent about $110 before tip. The chicken was tender, moist, and very flavorful! I guess we could've ordered the combo, but we wanted larger sides of beans and rice. My parents really enjoyed everything! They also appreciated that some of the food was soft, because it was gentle on their teeth. For example, the beans, plantains, and chicken were tender and it was easy to chew for them. I thought each dish complimented each other when all the items were on my plate. I really enjoyed the bottle of vinegar sauce on the table. I out it on my chicken, and it brought out the flavors even more. The seating can be difficult for larger parties, because the place is really busy on the weekends. I commend the workers for their efforts, because it's such a busy environment, and they probably have so many requests from the patrons like we did, lol! The food is very good, and I'd drive from San Francisco to the San Rafael location if I start to crave their food. The Petaluma location, however, is larger and newer. The decor is inviting and feels like we're in a tropical location.

The Arroz con Pollo was a bargain. Great quality, flavor and price. The Cubano was very good. The pork was very good, the ham was sparse, the bread was the real star. Nose is a factor here. It's loud. Service was informed, fast and attentive.

Loved the spacious outdoor patio at this location! Sol Food has been on our radar to try for a while and I'm glad we came to the Petaluma one because of the dog-friendly outdoor seating and it being less busy during the day. We had brunch instead of opting for the dishes they're known for - the chicken. But that just means we'll need to come back another time for lunch or dinner! The tostones under the benedicto were perfect and the ham was not too thick which is what I preferred. The pan frances was a huge amount and was also very good.

There appear to be two counters, one for take-out and one for dine-in. For dining in, make your selection from the varied menu, place your order, pay, and receive a number. Locate an empty table (which may include sharing with strangers!), display your number and within minutes your delicious tasting food is delivered. I ordered the Sol Bowl with organic greens, black beans, avocado, pickled pink onion, and Greek yogurt, and added chicken. Wonderful and very filling.

Google
Wow. I was directed here from the chef at Vinoma Tapas Argentinas in Rohnert Park with specific reccomendations and Spot On! "Bistec, pink beans, a PR fries, be sure to use their house made sauce." Bonus Tembelque with mango sauce dessert. Cerveza Tropical to route or an amazing palette.

Google
It's been a while since I had some good Puerto 🇵🇷 food. This place was on point. Not was too salty everything was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The ribs were very tender the salad was well dressed and the pinto beans had just the right amount of flavor. The bean soup was spectacular and the next day it was even better. Glad to have found this gem. Next time I'm in SF I'll be back.

Google
What a fun place , open , airy, green, colorful artwork, all servers are handsome :-) fried fish , beans, rice , fried plantain combination - super good! The coconut pudding with half mango sauce half cinnamon is heavenly.

I've been eating Sol Food since I was a teenager. But let me tell you, the quality of service has dropped a lot. Nowadays I just order takeout, usually the bistec sandwich with no avocado. For years it's been my go to sandwich to order. In the last few months, it's been TWICE they added avocado to my order when I specifically asked for no avocado. It's not hard guys, you're making a sandwich, charge like $20 for it and you still mess up my order? That's not right. First time, I let it slide, mistakes happen, right? Second time? Those are bad habits and laziness. I have a mild allergy to avocado, and it just messes with my stomach. But can you imagine someone is severely allergic to that and you serve it to them? You work in the food industry and have a responsibility when it comes to preparing people's food. It's a health issue at one point, take it seriously. Can you as a restaurant simply make sure your cooks are responsibly preparing food and not just on autopilot like a machine on a conveyor belt? It's really not a big ask. I'm disappointed. (Here's the time stamp on the latest mistake if you really care about training up your cooks on paying attention to what is being ordered)

Yelp
As a consistent Sol Food customer who eats there at least twice a week, I can confidently say that Sol Food truly delivers every single time. The food always tastes fresh, rich in flavor, and consistently delicious, no matter the day or the dish. For breakfast, I usually order the Sol's Stack. Freshly made tostones topped with melted cheese, beans, avocado, and over-easy eggs, this dish is basically the Eggs Benedict of Latin America. As an Eggs Benedict lover, I can say this plate is absolutely incredible. And if you want to elevate it even more, adding their habanero lime sauce gives it the perfect kick. For lunch or dinner, you can't go wrong with the Pollo al Horno or the Cubano Sandwich, especially paired with their fresh-cut, fried fries. Both dishes are hearty, flavorful, and consistently satisfying. The staff is another huge part of what makes Sol Food special. They're welcoming, friendly, and full of energy. Aaron and Beto are standout team members who keep the place running smoothly. Aaron often goes above and beyond, introducing us to new menu items, sharing happy hour options, and recommending dishes we now love. Beto is like a shark, constantly alert, always making sure everything meets the highest standards and attention to detail. And lastly, Sol Food is one of the cleanest and most organized restaurants I've ever been to. The consistency, the atmosphere, and the quality make it an easy favorite. There's simply no reason not to go. The food is simple, delicious, affordable, and always worth it.

Yelp
I ordered food to-go from the Petaluma location and when I went to pick it up, it was not there. Apparently if you click on the holiday menu on the website, all orders automatically go to the San Rafael location. Erick the manager from the Petaluma location admitted fault but only offered to refund 50% of the order. My office and I usually come here multiple times a week, but unfortunately never again. I would not recommend due to customer service.

Yelp
The service is hard to comment on because you pay at the counter and they bring you your food so you're on your own from there. The ambiance is lively with lots of space indoors and outside in the back. Although I came on a date I noticed it was great for families and kids. The pork chop was good, it tasted like good quality meat but it lacking in spice & herbs Or marinate. It was good but it tasted like plain pork. Same with the Bistec it was underwhelming not the most flavor blast in my mouth but it was good quality. The rice was salted very well & the beans were good and sweet plantain was good. I really enjoyed the mango orange iced tea and the fries were perfectly crisp. I think I was more impressed with the French fries & drink than the meat idk what that says about me. But I think there's lots to try on the menu I will be back

Yelp
Can't believe I waiting this long to try Sol Food. The pork ribs with the hot pepper sauce is amazing. The combo plate comes with a bed of rice, beans, salad, and 2 plantains (1 sweet, 1 savory). The ribs and chicken is what they're known for so that's definitely what I'll always be ordering! The indoor is spacious and clean. It feels like you were transported to a new place. The staff is very friendly and makes sure you're well taken care of. We got our food in less than 15 minutes, even with the busy crowd. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Im so glad they opened a Sol Food here in Petaluma. It's in downtown so parking can be tricky during the weekends. You have to order first, then find a table, and they bring the food out to you. Their pollo al horno is delicious. The chicken is very tender and seasoned well, and I love dipping it in the pique sauce and eat it with their rice and pink beans. I'm a huge fan of tostones so I am glad they have it as an appetizer with cheese and you can add avocado or tomatoes. Their sandwiches are also really good, especially the busted and the Cubano. I just realized they also serve breakfast. Their coconut latte is to die for- I usually get it iced. I rotated between the sol stack (tostones with beans, eggs, avocado) or the PR hash (rice topped with ground beef and eggs). It can get pretty busy during the weekends or dinner around prime time, so just be aware of that.

Yelp
Out of the three Sol Food locations in the Bay, the Petaluma location is easily the nicest location. It's not only the most spacious -- with plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor, but parking is also very easy to find in the parking structure a block down from the restaurant. My wife and I ordered their grilled pork chop (chuletas fritas) along with a side of pressed, fried plantains (tostones con mojo) to share. The bone in pork chop is super thin, so it does get a little dried out after it's pan fried. The included black beans run a bit salty, but they're more manageable when you combine it with the rice. Overall a good dish, but it's not large enough for two to share -- you'll definitely want your own entree. What caught me off guard is the wacky pricing. You can get a pork chop platter with one piece of protein for around $15.95 but to get an additional pork chop, it's going to cost you $28.95? $13 for a thin piece of pork chop is robbery. Even more absurd is if you order shrimp as your protein. The difference between 3 pieces of shrimp versus 6 pieces is also $13. Even by Bay Area standards, $4.33 for a single shrimp is a bit ridiculous. Overall, Sol Foods is a great spot to have lunch if you're stopping by the Petaluma Downtown area. Just be mindful of menu prices before you stop by so you can do a bit of planning beforehand.

Yelp
I was originally skeptical to try this place but I'm so glad I did. The food was absolutely incredible. They have a pretty big menu with options for everyone. The service was good, order at the counter and they bring it out. The vibe was so pretty. I can't wait til I'm back in town to visit Sol Food again

Yelp
Honestly, I really don't think it gets better than this in terms of quality, flavor, and satisfaction for your dollar than Sol Food. When they were only in San Rafael, I would gladly drive down for their delicious versions of plantains, incredible coconut flan, and fresh dishes that never disappoint. When they opened a second location in Petaluma, I was and continue to be, totally thrilled. Everything on the menu is good, but my favorite is the vegetarian combo with sweet plantains. A glass of ponche on the side just ties everything together, and the coconut flan is the chefs kiss to the meal's conclusion. Their house made spicy vinegar is meant for everything - I literally put it on the beans, rice, plantains, avocado, even the salad! It's so delicious, I always have one or two bottles at home too While I love the food here, there are some downsides. The first is the acoustics inside - it's massive and echoes hardcore. If you want a conversation you'll have to go when it's dead or sit outside. Secondly the parking situation is pretty rough if you want to park on the street, you may have to wait a long time. Overall though, this really is such a delicious, filling, nutritious and flavorful restaurant. I never leave regretting my choice to dine here, and I can't say that about almost anywhere else anywhere!

Yelp
A classic go-to lunch spot! When I heard they were opening a Sol Food in Petaluma, I was ecstatic. It somehow took me this long to actually get there! I was not let down. The bright spacious interior has such a nice airy vibe, and I love the outdoor patio in Theatre Square. The service was great, I had a lovely conversation with the girl at the counter. She recommended me the Bistec Sandwich, so I ordered it. It didn't take long at all for the food to arrive! The sandwich was huge and it was soo delicious! It's a French roll with thinly sliced steak, sautéed onion, Swiss cheese, avocado, and pink mayo. The avocado was ripe and the steak was tender. I ordered the side salad as well, which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was not overdressed, and was a perfect pairing for a warm day. If you haven't already visited this location, get there ASAP!

Yelp
VEGAN REVIEW met up here for lunch with a friend. first of all, the inside of the cafe & outdoor seating areas are clean, uncluttered & cute helpful servers. food came pretty quickly. a handful of plant-based options. generous portions, very flavorful. yummy beverages

Yelp
Sol Food is one of my favorites- you can't miss it especially if you're visiting from out of town! This Petaluma location particularly is lovely as well. They have plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating,. I really love that soul food offers great portions and fresh ingredients all at unbeatable prices. I have never had a single disappointing meal here, and I've eaten here dozens of times. My favorite is the fresh organic chicken and salad, and of course the fried plantains as well - I can never decide which is better between the Tostones and the Maduros, so I happily will take both! PS - their orange juice is so fresh and amazing. Now I am craving more Sol Food just writing this review!

Yelp
Food was delicious and Manager and Staff were very friendly and so accommodating. We had a party of 11 and service was super quick. Highly recommended!!!

Yelp
So they only sell the fried fish on Fridays. But if you are a seafood person, it is so freaking fresh and good. The actual fish is super flavorful and you can always ask for a lemon on the side to eat it. I have made it a thing to come here on Fridays when I do decide to go to soul food because this is our special of the day and I think it is just that good. Of course you have to get their ponche which is also a 10 out of 10. Anyways, I thought I would update this review to let everyone know that they should try the fried fish special. Service was pretty OK. This last time I went the server kind of forgot to bring something to us so we had to ask somebody else for it. However, the ambience is always super mellow and chill. We ended up having a sit next to other random people and it was OK. We made casual conversation. The food here however never disappoints it. It's so good.

Yelp
Solid food, massive portions! Got the small ensalada de pollo and it was definitely at least the size of a regular portion I'd expect at other restaurants. Chicken was tender and seasoned pretty well. Also tried the fried plaintain which was really good. Casual dining but really fun decor inside the restaurant! Napkins are held down by a massive plantain. You order at the counter when you enter then grab a number and sit down, where they'll deliver your food. Would return to try more of the meat options!

Yelp
Highly recommend! I've been to the Sol Food in San Rafael and was pleasantly surprised to see a location while I was visiting in Petaluma. The decor is boho and trendy! They have communal(?) seating so you most likely will be seated at the same table as another group of guests or the bar for faster service. We had 3 adults and 2 toddlers. The service was quick and attentive; the host was so nice and communicative to get our group seated as soon as possible. (It was about a 15 minute wait around 6pm on Saturday). There's both indoor and some outdoor seating. When the table was ready, we went up to the cashier to place our order before getting seated. The menu is pretty big with lots of options! We got the Camarones Criollos ($28.95 for 6 pieces of saucy creole prawns) and the Pollo al Horno ($22.95 for 2 pieces of chicken thighs). They come with rice, side salad, and you get to pick between plantains (sweet or garlic) or fries. You get 2 plantains and I recommend doing 1 of each sweet + garlic. The dish also comes with beans or avocado. The portion is on the more generous side though it seems a bit pricey for the meat/if you want more pieces. Everything was so tasty, juicy, and full of flavor! Side note - I'd come back and try things a la carte to make my own entree. Also had the Té Helado (Orange-mango iced tea) which was not too sweet and refreshing and a beer. Total was about $70ish which is not bad for two entrees and drinks. We walked here but I believe there's only street parking. Come here for some great Puerto Rican food!

Yelp
Another stellar service today 3/21/2025 Friday A busy dinner time as expected! Got the Pescado, a marinated Tilapia served with sides of pink beans and sweet plantain! 6 pc bbq ribs were tender and flavorful with sides of pink beans and 2 pcs of their sweet fried plantain !!! Was sooooo full !!! Service always a stellar experience from order taker to servers. This is the first place we dine whenever we come visit my granddaughters and their parents!!!

Yelp
Food was delicious. We both ordered the ground beef over rice dish with a cup of beans, green salad and either French fries or fried plantains. The dish was flavorful and fresh and the servings were generous. I had enough left overs for my dinner later that evening. Because it was still morning we both enjoyed iced lattees with our meals. Service was 5 star all the way. From the prompt greeting we received upon arrival to the friendly and helpful hostess who chatted with us, I was impressed. You do pre-order and pay, then your food is brought to your table. The servers were friendly and checked in on us often with out being intrusive. We were served on glass plates but were brought paper to go containers for our leftovers. Finally the ambiance was so wonderful here. Spacious, open and modern restaurant with plenty of seating. Either communal style tables or smaller round tables to enjoy your meal with your friends or family. Lots of greenery was displayed along with Cuban /Latin music playing made it feel completely authentic and a cool environment to dine in. I loved how you could see the open kitchen and even enjoyed watching the employees eating their meals on their mid morning break. Everyone was neatly dressed in white shirts and black pants. Small details like this make for an esthetically pleasing experience . I highly recommend this Puerto Rican dining establishment.

Yelp
This is a HUGE eating establishment; not fancy but good & large sandwiches. Very efficient & friendly takeout staff. My wife had a vegetarian sandwich on a sourdough roll & I had a very meaty sandwich on an Italian bread roll. They each lasted for two meals & were even better the next day. I highly recommend them, especially if you are in a rush

Yelp
Portions are large and in charge. The space is big and bright at this fast casual spot. The menu is 2 sided and options for everyone. I went with a huge chicken salad salad and I was hungry and ate it all up. It was solid. A heaping portion of chicken salad on dressed greens, a half of an avocado and some tomatoes. They have a happy hour of both food and drink and the crispy chicken tacos were a nice crunch side to the salad. Overall a solid spot for a fast casual meal.

Yelp
Sol Food has been a staple in Marin, with many from Petaluma making the drive there for years. It's lovely to have the convenience of Sol food here in Petaluma. Consistently delicious food, that's fast, convenient, and in a great spot to dine there or grab takeaway. The staff is always helpful and there's often an empty table you can grab. Pollo al horno and the bistec sandwich are the two staples I get. The hot sauce is definitely the difference to take either one from a 4.5 star meal to a 5 star one. That plus their refreshing treat of a lemonade.

Yelp
Hoping for fewer crowds, we stopped by well after the noon hour to celebrate two birthdays. This was a very memorable meal last year and we've been wanting to come back for a repeat performance. We ordered at the counter, grabbed our number, and went to sit at a table near the bar. We ordered four combo plates. These combo plates came with salad, white rice, choice of pink or black beans and either fries or plantains. 3 Pollo al Horno with 2 pieces of chicken each Costillas de Cerdo - Rotisserie pork ribs Our meals were good. The chicken seemed less moist than the last time we dined here but it was still very good and tender. The pork ribs were juicy and flavorful. I wish I could get the recipe for their black beans as they are the best. Their pique sauce on the table is delicious. I put it on my rice and chicken and really enjoyed the added flavor with a touch of spicy. We arrived at a good time but I could see that there were waves of people coming through for a late lunch. It's a fun atmosphere with friendly, helpful staff. I have fond memories whenever I think of this place.

Yelp
This is a clean, welcoming large spot! Service was great. Food is amazing! We generally eat their fried pork chops, sweet plantains & drink their limeade. Perfect meal! We recommend getting 2 pork chops. This is not the time to be frugal. Enjoy!

Yelp
Did a little road trip north of SF and decided to pick up lunch here on the way up. We got the bistec sandwich and the cubano so they'd be easy to eat in the car. We also got the mashed garlic and cheese plantains. The bistec sandwich was our absolute favorite, I loved the grilled onions in them and the avocado. The steak flavor/sauce was so delicious, and the sandwich was even better when we added the pique sauce on it! The cubano was also solid, tasted really good until we tried the bistec (which really blew us away). The plaintains were also good, I've never tried it like this and usually have the sweet ones. Highly recommend, but it definitely needs like pique too! That sauce is so delicious. I highly recommend coming here, they have great food.

Yelp
Sol Food always hits the spot! I love the ambiance, and the Petaluma location is especially great, it's spacious, so there's usually little to no wait compared to the San Rafael location. There are still plenty of menu items I'd love to try, but my favorites so far are the Pollo Rostizado, the Bistec Sandwich, and the Veggie Deluxe. I also always have to get a drink with my meal, their limonada and coconut latte are my favs. They also have great breakfast options! Highly recommend checking them out.

Yelp
I've been to Sol Food multiple times, and I could never fully decide between a 4 or 5 star review. Well, during my last dine-in visit, I finally settled on 4 stars. I usually order COSTILLAS DE CERDO - rotisserie pork ribs. The first time I had them, they were perfect, but every time after that, they were dry, which wasn't very pleasant. I also tried a sandwich (I don't remember which one), and it was great! Their Pique Sauce is amazing! I put it on everything: rice, salad, ribs. The portions are very big, which I love. I always get full before finishing my food. The staff is friendly, and the restaurant has plenty of seating, both indoors and outdoors. The outdoor seating is especially nice on hot days. Maybe from now on, I'll stick with sandwiches, since ordering the pork ribs feels a little too risky.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in Sonoma county for sure!! I just realized they offer happy hour! I'm so excited about that! The food is always so good! Got my taste buds dancing every time. I've tried many things on the menu. It's hard to say what is my favorite dish. I absolutely love the pollo al horno, with sweet plantains and black beans. I love the chuletta dish (fried pork chop) and the bistec sandwich is always a hit!! Once I order the pork chop sandwich and added a fried egg! It's was so good. Chefs kiss!! The service is always pleasant. And I love how big the restaurant is. They offer outside seating too! Such a beautiful Location.

Yelp
Really great food with flavors that you can't get anywhere else! I really like the plantain fried shrimp here and the sweet plantains on the side. Also the flan is so scrumptious! The inside looks very unique and has a nice vibe.

Yelp
Not a business I'd like to be a repeat customer at. Try it and see. The lay out and model is great for the business but not great for customers. You have to stand in line and wait to be called up front to order at the counter. Then you place the order and then will be seated at a communal table with other strangers. *Having to deal with sloppy eaters that take up more space needed and leaving a mess. Then also having to deal with staring faces that seem to be looking at you and talking, but then are not? Very confusing! I haven't even written about the food yet. The food is decent but under seasoned like the rotisserie chicken that is most known for. The shrimp plate that we ordered can be three and six pieces, it was good. We had the six which added to the expense of the food and the experience. Anyway, this was my initial experience, the first and last in house dining. Total cost w/tip $69.58 (Two entries 56 and two cans of sprites 4.5 and 15% PREPAID tip) Enjoy?

Yelp
We came on a Sunday afternoon and inside was lively and bustling. We ordered first then received a number and chose where to sit. For drinks, we had the coconut latte and it was so smooth and creamy. Coconut is a hit or miss for me and this was definitely a hit and well sweetened. Té helado came in a huge mason jar, had of a good balance of orange & mango, and was refreshing. For food, the tostones con queso were slightly crispy with melted cheese on top and it tasted so good. I also drizzled the orange sauce at the table and it added a nice kick. The tripleta sandwich was packed with three meats (roast pork, ham, thinly sliced steak) as the name suggests along with other fixings and we opted for fries. We also tried the bistec encebollado with rice, salad, black beans, and sweet plantain. The steak was thin and well seasoned and the onions were perfectly sautéed where it still had a slight crunch to it. The orange sauce went well with this too. Servers came by multiple times and asked if they could take our plates before actually taking them. Everything was so delicious, 5/5 no notes. The dishes are reasonably priced for the amount of food given. We were so full and since we came mid afternoon we weren't even hungry for dinner. There are so many dishes to choose from and I would definitely visit when I'm in the area again, highly recommend!!

Yelp
I was in the area and super hungry so I decided to give Sol Food a try. I found them on DoorDash and ordered my food for delivery. The food was packaged well and hot on arrival. I ordered chuletas fritas (pork chops), pickled red onions, pink beans and white rice. I also ordered maduros (sweet plantains). The food was seasoned well and very delicious. My only complaint is that the sweet plantains were too ripe. Other than that it was a solid meal.

Matt G.

Yelp
Service sucks. The Manager in the Petaluma location is an @$$ - he ruined a date night with my wife, trying to please another customer who did not like the thought of sharing either of large communal tables next to the 4 seat table we were at - so his solution was to move us even though we were still waiting for part of our order.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
Sol Food, what can I say? Always hits. Groovy vibe with communal tables where the neighborhood can rub elbows, kids can be kids, and we can all chow down on Puerto Rican deliciousness. The chicken dishes are fantastic, the plantains perfect but my go to is the cubano sandwich. Every bite is an impeccably executed flavor journey with just the right ratio of meat to sauce to pickle. Fries are fresh cut and tasty. Service is fast as you go to the counter and order then take your number to your selected seating. Sparkling Limeade is super refreshing and if you love bread pudding check it out before you leave.

Yelp
I learned about Sol Food about 20 minutes before my wife and I ran over. We had 6pm reservations down the street and we got to the area around 5pm..... Did we have time to try Sol Food? We made a mad dash to this joint and ordered the Pollo Al Horno (tender delicious braised chicken thigh- boneless skinless), white rice, crispy garlic plantain, sweet caramalized plantain, black beans and a fresh salad. The price for a 2-thigh order of this and some pink beans on the side was like $24? Not bad at all. You order, are given a flag to take to the table and they bring your food out to you. The chicken was tender and delicious. Nicely trimmed without any large chunks of fat and no bones or cartilage pieces were missed. Nice puerto rican spices, heavy on fresh herb flavors and overall a nice change from some of the other heavy options for entrées while eating out on vacation. The rice was exactly what you'd expect. Decent rice. It was a great vehicle for the traditional black beans or the pink beans. The pink beans had some olives, onions and maybe peppers? It was really tasty. Both beans were a nice texture and it felt good to eat something with some fiber in it. You can make a very healthy wholesome meal here if you want. Oh and we got out of here in like, 30 mins flat and that's only because my wife eats much slower than I do. From ordering, to getting our food and eating it was smooth easy and we made it to our other reservation to meet our family. I loved it. It was nutritious, not trying to do too much, and delivered simple, delicious, well executed flavor. Don't expect to be wowed by a breath taking space. It's a wide open industrial feeling kitchen area. Picture you're going into one of those cool garage-converted breweries with a food counter and a kitchen. It's nice in there, but it's not fancy. Exactly what I like sometimes. These types of places aren't trying to fool you, just give you a good meal.

Yelp
Came here after my sons basketball game on a Thursday dinner time and it was busy. They have two seperate line one for takeout/phone order and the other is for dine. After ordering your food in the dine in line you go and find an open seat and they will bring your food out to you. The line did go pretty fast. The restaurant it self is pretty big so seating was not not an issue. They also have outdoor seating available. We have been here a few times and its a family favorite. We get Bistec Encebollado with beans, fries, half sweet plantains and half fried garlic tostones and we also got cubano sandwich. Everything was amazing as usual. Food came out super fast too. I already can't wait to go back!!

Yelp
I love Sol Food! My brother and I stopped by for lunch and both got the pollo al horno plate. Ordering is super easy and the employees are friendly. I like that we get to pick our own seats and there is seating both inside and outside. The food comes out pretty quickly and is absolutely delicious! The chicken is always perfectly cooked and seasoned and the servings are huge! I am also a big fan of the fried plantains. They coat them with a garlic oil that is so tasty. I would suggest sitting inside. I've gone and sat outside twice and both teams I had some wasps come greet me and try to eat my food. I know this is out of control of the restaurant but if you're scared of wasps like I am, keep it in mind!

Yelp
It was my first time there I've wanted to try it for a while. The food was delicious. Service was nice. The ambience was good. I was by the door so it was a little chilly. It was a little expensive, but definitely worth it

Yelp
Sol Food always hits the spot! I've enjoyed having them located in Petaluma as I use to make the trek to their San Rafael location. My go to order is the Vegetariano combo, which is the perfect mix with flavor-packed pink beans, fluffy white rice, mixed greens, avocado and your choice of fried or garlic plantains. They have a signature piquie sauce they make in house. This combo is simple ingredients but makes for a delicious meal. The Limonada Fresca sparkling limeade is a must try! The staff is usually pretty attentive, and the service is speedy. I've had a couple times where my food is ready at the takeout counter, but yet they don't call my name, so it is just sitting there. The ambiance is nice and bright and they have a decent amount of seating indoors as well as outdoors.

Yelp
Such a cute Petaluma spot! Easy parking, fun to walk around afterward, and the salsa music + modern décor make it feel so lively. Service was super speedy and friendly, and the food came out fast and delicious--loved the special soup, tostones with cheese/garlic/avocado, mariquitas, and a refreshing limeade. Not crazy about shared tables, but I knew the vibe from the San Rafael location.

Yelp
We came for my Hubby's Birthday dinner, we went to the newer Sol Food in Petaluma, which is very near my home. The restaurant is vast and has an industrial vibe, but there's also a Cuban flair everywhere. It has a huge bar and an excellent selection of wines. They even had Merry Edwards Pinot Noir; I couldn't have been happier. First, grab a menu and pick out what you want to order. Then, you give your order at the counter, and they give you a number. They were packed; this place is popular, so we sat outside. They have several picnic tables with umbrellas. I ordered the Cubano Sammy, and hubby ordered Sándwich De Pollo. They were both juicy and very flavorful with a hint of yellow mustard in the best way, and they had breakfast items. I just noticed they have breakfast, so that's just another reason to go back. It was my first time trying Cuban food, and I have to say I was not disappointed. Definitely, we will be back! Cheers to you SYOY 11/03/24 #352

Yelp
Great food! I love the Pollo Al Horno and so many other things. Interesting ambiance, possibly sharing a table, if super busy. I find it fun but gets very loud at times! Waiters and other employees are very friendly and accommodating. I love their Pique hot sauce!

Yelp
Food isn't as good as what it used to be in San Rafael. The Petaluma location is way too bright, not comfortable to enjoy. The meat was dry. Just not feeling the love in the food or service.

Yelp
Delicious food! The platanos, rice, beans, are all very flavorful. Also enjoyed the meat as it was very seasoned and overall - very good! Had this delivered so I didn't get to experience the restaurant environment but I hope to soon. Food is delicious.

Yelp
Beautiful inside! You order at the cashier then go find a table to sit and eat. Coming from New York City, where there is an abundance of puerto rican food, it's so nice to find a place like Sol Food in the bay area where there aren't many like it. They satisfy my tostone and rice and bean cravings. 2 of my friends asked the staff for hot sauce, and they dont have any. However, someone came up to them with charred serrano chili peppers to make up for it. This was incredible customer service. Also the limeade is H U G E. Easily 2 drinks in 1. @ Sol Food owners, please open up a location in San Jose!

Yelp
The food was great, as always, but I found out that you need to order take out and sit down from two different registers which was very annoying. I had three people for dine in and wanted to bring some to go for my mom and they couldn't. The employee said it was too confusing for the kitchen to order it together. I ended up not getting more food because of this... :-/
