We go here at least once a week! They know my kids by name, and they remember my order! The service is always great! The food is all tasty! I am partial to the burritos, because then I have lunch the next day as well! It’s perfect for a group of four because the tables have four chairs, but there are a couple sets of tables. Love this place!

My wife and I were in the district for the first time and did not have transportation. We walked from our airBNB to go to one restaurant, but they were closed, so, as we were walking, we saw this Sol Mexican restaurant and thought, let's try it. We were very pleased. The portions are very good, and my wife was able to eat hers for 2 days. I'm glad we stopped in.

This spot is good and on a steady up and becoming H st. If you are from the DMV you know H st. Came along way. The food was at good proportion sizes. It was tasty with veggie and meat options. It's in DC so pay to park in the street. Those parking patrollers are out there and ready to give tickets. But enjoy yourself out there. The restaurant gives good drinks as well. There are also good spots next to it. Enjoy it.

Updated 6/24: still absolutely LOVE this place and still love coming here every week! Can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. This is our absolute favorite place to eat every week. It is a part of our routine and we always love the food, drinks and service. Everyone is so nice and they do such a great job creating our food into amazing masterpieces. The nachos are my favorite, and my partner loves the burritos. Margaritas they make are also amazing! We look forward to coming here and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a great meal.

Google
Have only tried their burritos and love them With extra protein options can easily stretch it 2 or 3 meals. Stir fry leftovers with an egg for nice breakfast. Staff not too friendly - strictly business.

Google
The food was not edible. The queso that comes with chips is runny amd taste like cheese colored water. I would've returned the entire order but I was already on the amtrak. I also got a bowl... rice crunchy Chicken dry af pico watery black beans flavorless. Truly upset. I went there under recommendation. I now question that individuals life choices. Service was quick tho and friendly. Now I know why

Google
Sol is what chipotle aspires to be! Lol. No, seriously.. it is great and cheap Mexican food. I have been there a few times by now and have tried different dishes such a tacos, burritos and bowls. This time around I have chicken nachos and my bf ordered chicken quesadilla. They were both on point but I will say their guacamole is overpriced. They also had District Daiquiri —spiked slushees. They were good but super weak. Overall the experience was 8/10

Google
Vibe on point: chill hole-in-the-wall with chill workers. Food was fantastic! Friends and I all got birria bowls or quesabirrias, and one of them went back up to order another quesabirria! Definitely would be back here again and again if I’m ever in the area.

Yelp
The Taco Tuesday makes it possible to have yummy affordable tacos in DC. The $2.50 tacos include one protein and two toppings, or otherwise you'd be charged for extras. These tacos are American style and I enjoyed this combination: One carne asada taco Pico de gallo Cheese Flour tortilla One veggie taco with guacamole Black beans Cheese Flour tortilla And is a great deal. I'd be back for the Taco Tuesdays.

Aysha S.

Yelp
I got in right before a closing rush so they were out of what I really wanted but I was prefaced that this was a better quality chipotle. I had a chicken and rice bowl with a side of guacamole. It was pretty good. Not as flavorful as chip but definitely good. I would say a more authentic, healthy version and they have churros!! The guacamole was great and fresh as can be for a long day. The ladies that served me were kind and helpful despite the rush and the late arrival. The inside gives hole in the wall, it's cute but I'm not sure I would want to eat in there if it wasn't early afternoon. They gave me extra sauce for free

Yelp
Visit: 12.16.23 Food: it was just ok! I was expecting my dish to have so many flavors. When we walked in, it smelled absolutely delicious but after getting my hefty quesadilla. My palate thought otherwise. I chose the chicken quesadilla. The young lady loaded up the ingredients but it was just blah aka bland. The ingredients station appeared as if they cooked the food last night. I was there at 12:45pm, it should've been better looking than that. The YELLOW RICE: was so old looking that I opted for white rice and it was pretty fresh. Service: the staff were very nice. Two women making food and I would say they were pretty attentive. Ambiance: it too was nothing impressive but I did like the seating area inside with spacious tables. I honestly believe that it just wasn't our time to get sick because the food line could not have been properly maintained. The meats were cold and the beans were just sitting in their own canned juices. Prices: pretty pricey but our quesadilla was loaded with items from their bar.

Yelp
Just tried the new Dupont Circle location, and I was really disapointed. The corn tortillas were the worst I've ever had...rubbery and tasteless. The proteins were all decent, but nothing special, and $5 for a taco is too much. There are about a half dozen better, cheaper taco places in the neighborhood. The only thing I really liked was the fish taco.

Yelp
I noticed this build your own taco spot while on another review a few weeks ago. A mental note was made to GET THERE!! So I did just that, & had an interesting customer service experience *see below*. . Where I am: @solmexicangrilldc . Location Reviewed: 1251 H St., N.E. Washington D.C. . Yelp
After a few negative experiences at Sol, I took a break for several years. Tonight, I went back with the assumption that restaurants, like people, evolve. I was wrong. It was once again, a two-star experience. Here's why: 1) Food: Although the tacos come filled well, they lack taste compared to most taco spots in the area. The queso is okay, but still lacks the flavor kick you'd expect. 2) Ordering: I ordered online, double checked my order and showed up at the appropriate time. Easy enough. Nope. When I checked my order, queso was missing and half the tacos came on corn v. flour. 3) Customer Service: When I asked about the incorrect order, the staff were cold and disconnected. They said they can't do anything. Eventually, they gave me queso, but only after insisting they check my order to verify my story. If you want quality tacos, skip Sol and head to Taco City DC south of H Street NE in the Navy Yard area.

Taylor H.

Yelp
This is no joke one of the best mexican places in DC right now, no one ever talks about it for some reason?? This is better than chipotle seriously the food here is amazing every single thing about this place is 10/10, from the decorations, the service, even the lines! I come here all the time especially on taco Tuesdays and there is never a line and if there is its always pickup so basically no wait!

Luhuki A.

Yelp
I use to LOVE their fish tacos...omg. But this place has went down..ew. Eat if you need to take a nasty poop or want to get out the house and go to the ER!! Check your avocado before you leave and be for you eat your food!!!

Maddy E.

Yelp
We LOVE this place! We come here every week because it is so good. It is officially a part of our weekly routine to get an amazing meal and share it together. They are such a great mom and pop place that we love everything they have to offer. My usual go to is the nacho entree with all of the fixings. It's a great gluten free option. Their breakfast platter, tacos and bowls are amazing too. My partner LOVES the burritos and quesadillas. We also love dinning in since they always have fun music playing! The staff is always super friendly and we love the rewards program they have, it's awesome!

Priscilla T.

Yelp
I enjoy their quesadillas and breakfast burritos! Honestly, I don't think I've stepped foot into a SOL, but many people have bought or pick up for me so I'm grateful!! The meals are filling, flavorful, and comforting. Also, pretty affordable so it satisfies when I want fast casual Mexican.

Chell H.

Yelp
I went to this place because I saw an Instagram post Of their margaritas. So I decided to get a few. The margaritas are actually really good & strong but I gave a 3 star rating because the workers were not friendly at all. The vibe was off. Anywho, I did my part in supporting a small business during the pandemic.

Kiarra W.

Yelp
I placed a to go order at 5:49 pm on Sunday, September 3. The tracker said my order would be ready at 6:19. I entered the restaurant at 6:19 pm and my order had yet to be started. There was only one customer in the restaurant who's order hadn't been started yet. The employee told me to come back in 8 minutes. I returned and my order still hadn't been completed. Meanwhile another walk in customer ordered while I was there and their food order was completed. I asked for a beverage to be compensated for the inconvenience and the employee told me that she could ring me up to pay for a drink. There was no apology or sense of urgency. I finally walked out of the restaurant at 6:36 pm. I was better off walking into the restaurant instead of ordering ahead. I've supported this restaurant too many times and spend my hard earned money to be treated like my time and money don't matter.

Tashee B.

Yelp
Oh no workers are very disrespectful they don't greet make u not ever want to come back. U ask ? They look at each other and act as if they don't Understand me... y'all need new hire it's dirty not clean the workers don't clean table after the guest I have to clean it never again

Willie R.

Yelp
I came here with friends one night and am pleased to see this option on H Street. Note that there are two entrances--the one on the left is to the restaurant and the one on the right is the takeout area with a small seating space. We grabbed a table in the semi-outdoor space (which is nice!). We were quickly brought out chips, although they were cold and tasted old. The salsa was OK, although I wouldn't say it had loads of flavor. I must say that the menu prices are very affordable by DC standards. While the 3 tacos option was listed under appetizers, they served as a full meal in their own right. I had two chicken tacos, which had more cilantro than I would have gone for but were overall solid. The third was a carne asada taco, and the meat was well marinated and not dry. The strawberry margarita I had was fine, but nothing to write home about. All things said, I was neither impressed nor unimpressed with Sol.

Yvonne W.

Yelp
I slipped and fell on water dripping from the ceiling at this restaurant, there was no wet floor sign and after I fell and hit my head an employee told me "you should have watched out". The next day I went to the hospital and found out I have a concussion and a sprain in my back. I've called the store multiple times and they have ignored my calls, I also went back to the restaurant to speak to one of the employees and they all claimed that they didn't speak English.

Alia C.

Yelp
Poor service, tasteless carnitas, my son's cheese quesadilla had a cluster eyelash. The ladies that work there do not have a working knowledge of the foods they serve and could not answer questions about dairy or any other possible allergens. Charged for adult quesadilla when it was obviously being ordered for a child and they were repeatedly told it was for one. Only to have an eyelash cluster on it. Had to wait another 10 min for another one to be cooked. I was told that they didn't wear lash. Well neither does my 9 year old son or I. Cost too much to taste like someone from Maine cooked it. Salty sour cream, lack of working communication, tasteless... this is mexican food...its supposed to give you life, the ppl who serve it should too...this hit like a tortilla wit the idea of a taco, void the soul of one...first and last time...if you looking for real tacos go visit the trucks in MOCO ( Gaithersburg or Aspen Hill) they will show what tacos taste like

Danielle G.

Yelp
The food was EXCELLENT! I had it delivered for lunch and it arrived hot and tasty! The queso was a nice blend of creamy cheese and a great compliment to the house made chips. The taco was a little dry, but it was due to me not selecting a sauce or "wet" topping. I enjoyed carnita taco and wish I had the option to have shrimp as my meat option as I build my taco.

LaShanta H.

Yelp
I was walking down H Street and I saw a sign for Taco Tuesday. Yay!! So I went straight in. I wanted a margarita with my tacos. The guy upstairs gave me a very hard time when I wanted to take my tacos upstairs so I could have a drink. They said the $2 tacos could not be eaten upstairs. I begged and pleaded and the guy let me eat my taco in peace with my margarita. But THEN they added gratuity to the check for my one drink. It wasn't even 10:00 at night and I was a party of one!! Adding gratuity was completely unacceptable. I Especially because he was so mean about me eating my tacos upstairs. It felt like the whole $2 taco thing was such a scam!

Lia M.

Yelp
SOL was fine. I ordered three tacos: fish, chicken, and pork. They asked me if I wanted rice and beans on my tacos. Even in the whitest Mexican establishments I've been in, I've never been asked that. That was a first. But I was drunk so I said yes because if you are asking drunk me that, that's the answer. I was slightly horrified but sober me was even more horrified. But anyway. The tacos were fine. The battered fish had been pre-cooked and then was re-warmed up, so wouldn't order that again. There are better nearby options for good tacos, but SOL will hit the spot. Staff was rude though, so you won't be getting good service here.

Patrick M.

Yelp
Pretty terrible. Meat seemed like it was cooked the day before and server coughed into my food several times. If you're coughing, ask a teammate to make the food. Bland and basic overall. Won't return.

marquilla c.

Yelp
I recently ate here and the food was great. My favorite part of my meal was the two churros with chocolate sauce. I haven't had a churro in a while but I was eager to try it again, and it delivered. There wasn't too much seasoning on the churros and they weren't messy. Very long and crispy. The chicken and cheese quesadilla tasted wonderful. Decent prices, I would eat here again.

Hadiya R.

Yelp
One star because I ordered two breakfast plates with turkey bacon! We can not have not and will nvr eat pork bacon! After $20 and an hour wait I was highly disappointed when I can't even eat anything on the plate as it has been contaminated! The kicker is not receiving a full refund because the vendor is ignorant proven by the ignoring of the matter

Mary B.

Yelp
Five Stars!!! My friend suggested ordering from here, I thought it would just be like Chipotle. I was amazingly surprised about how good they were, 100x better!!!! I'm picky about Mexican/ American Mexican since I grew up in SoCa. The Chorizo was perfect!!!! The Chipotle sauce was addicting. I will definitely put SOL into my regular dining rotation

Placid B.

Yelp
The customer service here is absolutely horrendous. The staff treat the customers as if they are bothersome and are being done a favor by being allowed to eat there. In general the staff seemed overworked, tired and stressed out never a good combination for people handling your food. The taco Tuesdays is a joke they nickel and dime you for every little add-on. And in general the tacos are bland.

Ashley B.

Yelp
Ordered nachos plus extra chips to-go. Got the nachos, not the chips. The nacho toppings were tasty. The portion size was large! The chips were stale and hard, so I guess it was best that the extra chips weren't included.

Kay B.

Yelp
My partner had lunch today. Simple, beans and rice with chicken and cheese. Shortly after I had to call paramedics who suggested she go to the hospital for food poisoning. When I called to inform the manager, I was told they were in a meeting...at 9:30pm on a Saturday. Even when I stated it was an emergency and that those items should be removed and investigated. The hostess let me know that she will inform the manager and on Monday they would make sure everything is made fresh. It's Saturday. Cheers

Noelle C.

Yelp
Has its own unique authentic Mexican Taste. No shade but way better than chipotle and the guac is to die for !!

Chris H.

Yelp
The breakfast burrito is very tasty. The ingredients are fresh and well dispersed. It is one of my favorite breakfast entrees on H street.

Tania W.

Yelp
OMG! I wish I knew about this place sooner! I love Mexican food so I've tried just about every known restaurant but this place tops them all. Much tastier and fresher than Chipotle or Qudoba. Finally found my go to for take out Mexican. SOL Mexican Grill is a must try. Best part is that I ordered through door dash and service was speedy with my food still being hot to order

Mica P.

Yelp
I've been here before and I liked it way better before. The enchiladas before looked like your traditional ones, rolled with sauce on top (and only cheese inside, that's how I roll lol), but for some reason now they switched their presentation up and the "enchiladas" look more than mini-quesadillas. Honestly if I wanted quesadillas I would have ordered them, so I was surprised by this. The food itself was just ok, the rice and beans tasted fine but weren't particularly memorable. Service was a bit questionable--my boyfriend asked one of the folks working there if they knew if there was WiFi at the restaurant and she just only said "No", that she didn't know. He had to press her by asking if someone else knew (turns out the WiFi wasn't even working at the time but that's not really a negative, stuff happens) but personally I feel like it should be a given to say something like "No, I don't know but I'll find out and get back to you".

Dominique F.

Yelp
The food was great! But the customer service is bad, the young lady (who had an attitude) took my order for the fish tacos she told me there would be a wait which I was fine with. It was a group of us but we did not go in same time. I asked but boyfriend to ask for a bag since we were riding bikes back to my apartment and the young man at the register told him it would cost him .65 cents. Knowing that a bag should not be that much we didn't get it. But the attitude from the workers were not friendly at all.

Sheila L.

Yelp
By far, the best fish tacos I've ever eaten. They have a friendly, efficient staff and if you're in the mood, they have strong, tasty margheritas. You won't be disappointed by the food, the atmosphere, however is very informal and casual. The have benches and tables which is fine when it's not crowded, but less so when it's busy. Definitely worth it.

Hilaria L.

Yelp
This Mexican restaurant doesn't disappoint when it comes to the quesadillas. Sometimes too much is put in the quesadillas but other than that, great prices and great food! I recommend eating at Sol!

Jude T.

Yelp
Did you want a burrito so large it doesn't fit in your mouth, can't be eaten in one sitting, and is better than the ones that fit that description at C*******? Look no further. Food was pricey compared to what I'm used to, but it's DC so it's actually normal price. So don't expect it to be the same as you are used to, out of towners! Staff helped us with questions we had. Service was prompt. Burrito was ginormous. I think Black Francis and his fae friends wrote a song about this burrito: Gigantic, gigantic, a big, big love. I have a big love for the tasted in the chicken burrito I had. I couldn't finish it at all (in fact, I had it for lunch the next day AND a snack later that night), but I definitely enjoyed it. The stuffing for the burrito was all fresh and delicious, crispy when it was supposed to be, tender when you expected it to be. I'd go back here quite often if it weren't in DC!

Gabbrielle J.

Yelp
Sol has never lead me wrong. It doesn't matter if I go to the downstairs fast casual or the upstairs sit down restaurant. Their food is amazing. Upstairs they give every table chips and salsa and I love it. Their chicken fajitas are probably my favorite thing on the menu. If you are at their downstairs restaurant, I recommend the nachos. They are a little more than the other options, but you can add whatever toppings you want at no extra charge. I always load my nachos up and end up in a food coma. You can't go wrong with Sol!

Oluwaseyi A.

Yelp
Food and service was pretty good. Only thing I'll say is if you're debating between burrito or chimichanga go with the former because the extra $4-5 for being fried is not worth it.

Amanda J.

Yelp
Taco Tuesday is one of the most beautiful concepts in the world, and after struggling to find good tacos, I am so glad to have found this place. It's a little further down H Street than the gentrification bubble has hit, but I felt perfectly safe during the day time. SOL does $2 Tacos, $8 flavored mojitos, and $15 yard margaritas on Tuesdays. I ordered a chicken and a chorizo taco, and both were awesome. The meat was tender and there were plenty of toppings as well. My guava mojito was really awesome and unique, and I enjoyed my friend's strawberry margarita ($7). The taco Tuesday special was on the second floor, and while the tables were full, our service was great! We got our food and drinks quickly, and we were not rushed out. The servers were really nice too! If you are at all worried about walking down H street, you can take the streetcar straight here and for free! We walked and felt safe, but the streetcar is much faster. All in all, a great find on H street!

Rob J.

Yelp
I love to support the local eateries whenever I come to DC. Decided to try out this Mexican spot after a wonderful show at Atlas Perfoming Arts Center since many of my favorites (Smith Common, Cusbah, etc.) have been closed down (presumably due to COVID). While the line was not unbearably long, the wait was. After observing how the order were fulfilled before me, I chose to build my own bowl. The lady was light on the white rice so i asked her to provide a little more and she obliged. The next several toppings were all reasonable quantities until i got to cheese -an ever so slight sprinkle. I politely requested a little more and the lady insisted i'd be charged 90 cents. My explanation that she didnt put on as much cheese as previois customers appeared to not matter to her at all and she pulled out a mini plastic cup to illustrate a full cheese portion. To anyone else it would be clear her sprinkles would not have filled half that cup but she refused to let up and insisted on charging for extra. I caved and said fine "extra cheese". Using her fingers, she sprinkled the same amount of cheese on top as she did before. What?!? She just pulled out a plastic measuring cup yet decided to repeat the same lame inconsistent quantity. To say i was pissed was an understatement. It was like she was f-ing with me and all i wanted to do was have dinner. I asked to speak to a manager and the second round of games began. The lady at the cash register said she was the manager to which she replied no I'm not. What type of establishment is this? As a customer, i have every right to speak to a manager and to not be mistreated. None of the three women would responded to my pleads to speak to a supervisor or even to give me that person's name and/or number or email address. Instead they ignored me and acted like they all of a sudden no longer understood English. Attached is a photo of them while toying with me and putting my nearly complete bowl off to the side. As an organization, what did they gain? They lost several customers all over a tiny bit of cheese and disrespectful service. They also wouldn't provide a cup of water to my elderly mother. You have to pay $3+ for a bottle. Hopefully, the actual manager and/or owner will talk to these employees and remind them of the importance of good customer service.

Harley S.

Yelp
My Carnitas taco was delicious, fresh, large, customized, healthy and filling. I loved it and it was only $3.50.

Don B.

Yelp
One of my favorite taco spots in the city. Located on H St. NE is SOL Mexican grill. My favorite on the menu is the fish tacos. Which includes a golden fried fish tender, cabbage, onion, cilantro, and a chipotle sauce that's so good. But, today is Taco Tuesday so I settled for the $2 tacos. That includes a meat of your choice (not fish), onion, cilantro, and their homemade salsa verde. Just a simple street taco. But everything is fresh and so flavorful that it's worth it. The meat is marinated and cooked on the flattop. The flour tortillas are soft but not doughy. The onion is diced small and crisp, and the salsa verde is a cool refreshing flavor to go along with any of their options. If you're not feeling tacos you could always go for one of their other options. Burritos, nachos, quesadillas, taco salads. They have it all. So stop thru and definitely check this spot out.

Jay C.

Yelp
Really good fast-casual Mexican food. I like it as a more authentic version of Chipotle. Whatever you do, make sure to get the chipotle aioli.

Shannon S.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by for a quick drink at the bar, and I was pleasantly surprised by the cozy and quaint yet vibrant atmosphere of the restaurant. Downstairs is a taqueria and upstairs is a more full service restaurant and bar. The vibe is casual, cozy, and festive. It seemed like a cool spot to hang out with friends over some good food and/or drinks! We sat upstairs at the bar, and we just chatted. We both ordered pretty standard drinks: a margarita for my friend and a Corona for myself. The drinks were great and the lady bartending was friendly and quick with service. If I'm ever in the neighborhood again, I would definitely want to come back and try some of their food!

Jasmine T.

Yelp
Ordered food for pick up. Arrived 10 minutes after pick-up time and was told by the employee I needed to wait an additional 10 minutes because she was going to make the orders for the customers in line first before my to-go order and then shrugs. Never again *One star only because you have to select something*

Marissa S.

Yelp
Stopped in for some post-happy hour tacos and left happy. They keep it simple here which was just what we needed right then. A few of the fish and the chorizo tacos really hit the spot and they fried up the fish right as we ordered them so they were hot and fresh. Can't complain!

Michaela N.

Yelp
I always love quesadillas here. They are so filling. I was disappointed that they were out of carne asada when I got there about an hour before closing. Alast I got the chicken and was not disappointed, as always. I love the semi divey vibe and eclectic decor.

Niro W.

Yelp
Honestly i wish they had more sol mexican restaurants around dc and in maryland. This is like a better version of chipotle, and the food tastes amazing. All their ingredients are fresh and taste amazing. I ordered yellow rice, black beans, chicken, queso, guac, salsa, corn, cilantro and chipotle sauce. Parking in the area can be a pain, but the pain is worth it for sure. Please expand out to md!

Toni Rose D.

Yelp
Love this place especially on Taco Tuesdays! They do have tacos for $2; it only has four ingredients. The chicken is phenomenal and the chorizo is a bit spicy. My wife and I have been going every Tuesday for the past month. There is an upstairs section for full service but I wouldn't recommend it. The service is ok and we liked being downstairs better. Check this place out. It's delicious. My wife and I look forward to going here every Tuesday. So worth it and the line goes by quickly!

Yelp
I have never had a bad meal from this restaurant. All of the ingredients always taste so fresh, especially the cilantro in my bowls. The portions for the price are beyond fair and I rarely finish my meals because there's just so much. I prefer the bowls over the burritos, just because the flavor comes out better when it isn't wrapped in tortilla. You also absolutely cannot beat their family meal. I love ordering from SOL.
