Based on the great reviews, I made a reservation for dinner here. It was easy enough to do it right from their website.
The location is out of the way in a more residential part of town that's under the bridge. When we arrived we were promptly seated in the back, which seems to be the place where they put the foreigners. The table was already set with the traditional appetizers of pickled peppers, mushrooms, olives, cheese, liver, and bread, all of which were great except for the liver.
The friendly English speaking waiter recommended the traditional salted cod and a steak, both of which they happily split for us. We were completely unprepared for how salty the cod was, and it was also fried heavily and contained a lot of bones. The steak was tender and cooked well, but didn't have any additional flavor beyond salt. On both dishes, the presentation was lacking and included nothing more than lettuce and carrots for garnishment. For dessert, we had the creme brûlée, which was very different from any I'd ever had, but it wasn't bad.
After we finished our entrees, it seemed that business had picked up a bit, our reservation was early (730pm), and service got really slow. We had to ask for the check at least three times and took about 30 minutes to get it.
Overall, the food was very basic and about average, and the service slow. With all of the other great restaurants in this town, I'd recommend something else.
