Bed-Stuy Bike Tour of Restaurants: Brisket, Jerk Chicken, Bean Pies, and More | Eater NY

"I found Soldier Restaurant, a favorite Jamaican serve-yourself steam-table, open and accepting customers under an elaborate safety protocol that included gloves, masks, and a handwashing sink." - Robert Sietsema

Oxtail had crazy depth of flavor. Rice and beans on point. Plantains spot on. $13 and change for the lunch special & a snapple. Wish there were more than 3 pieces. Many options to choose from with booth seating on one side of the restaurant. Worth the stop.

Hadnt realized it was a Soldier’s Jamaican Restaurant near my home. Had this for the first time and it was delicious. Staff super friendly and assisted with questions. The food really fresh and tasty. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.

First off, let’s talk about the atmosphere. It’s super duper clean. Not many Jamaican restaurants are that clean. Next, the service. I was greeted by Christine. She’s so kind and generous. I told her to give me anything she recommends. She gave me rice and peas, rasta pasta, barbecue chicken, curry and oxtail stew, turkey wings, and fried chicken. Everything on the menu was cheap. $10????? Crazy. So I paid $20 really, but $22.65 cuz of tax. The food was good since I was fasting anyway. lol. The rice and peas was a good 8/10. It was a bit dry. The barbecue chicken was a 9/10. Very tasteful. The fried chicken was a bit undercooked and when I peeled the skin the batter was still visible. I give that 6/10. The turkey wings was so good. The taste was sweet and spicy. I give that 8/10. The rasta pasta was just sweet. I give that a 7.5/10. I also got a sorrel drink. I honestly didn’t like it. It was so GINGERYYYY. I was choking. I give that a 3/10. I honestly wasted $5. But overall I will come back for the barbecue chicken. I recommend ‼️😝

The food is great and it's a Caribbean restaurant where everyone is actually kind. If you frequent Caribbean restaurants, you know that is as rare as finding oxtail for under $10. The workers are amiable and you get out quickly with delicious food.
