Sole Food BBQ

People who cook know the feeling of trying new food and being disappointed, because of this I tend to stay away from ordering soulfood and just make it myself. However, during lunch break at work I decided to try this spot that came up on Google. I am blown away. The food is amazing! I ordered bbq ribs, Mac n cheese, yams and peach cobbler. The Mac n cheese is delicious, it tastes the way my mom makes it and it’s so good. The bbq ribs are tasty. They aren’t falling off the bone tender but definitely not difficult to eat and the flavor is good. The yams for me were sweeter than I would prefer but I still ate them all cuz they were good. The peach cobbler was great. Not too sweet and more of a dumpcake style cobbler. The wait was a bit long to me but the staff was nice. I like that they offer samples. The food wasn’t perfect but food is subjective and this is well executed. Plus you get a lot of food for the money. I ate from mine twice. My favorite soulfood place now.

Every thing I ordered was delicious. I’ve never heard of Fried Ribs… I’ve had them twice in two weeks. The macaroni and cheese and cheese and cheese is delicious 😋. I’ve had the collard greens 🥬 and the green beans (drank the juice/ pot liquor) which lets you know that flavor is delicious. The peach cobbler is worth cheating on my diet 🤫 They offer samples of the sides and trust me… it’s more than a month full. The service is to be commended as well as the cleanliness. Everyone has been extremely nice and friendly. Did I mention that the music is R&B and never inappropriate 👍🏽 Tonight I was offered a sample of Candied Wings… yup-they got me. No disappointments! Give them a try! 🥰 Closed on Saturdays and Mondays. Sole Food is definitely a favorite place of mine. I’ve been there 4 times in two weeks! Trust me ❤️🖤💚 They have been open for a year and we can keep them here. Great place to eat! Great people, great food and great service! They also cater! I’ve had Fried Ribs, BBQ Ribs, Macaroni and Cheese, Potato Salad, Collard Greens, Green Beans, Peach Cobbler and Sweet Tea 😋 Next time I will have to get some fish.

This is a hidden gem. I tried this restaurant out because so many satisfied customers. I tried the candied wing dinner which came with 2 sides; I had the yellow rice and string beans. I have say the wings were phenomenal!!!! The service is great and everyone that works are very welcoming. Everything was freshly made, so it pay to order and pickup. I look forward to trying the other menu items...to be continued 😋

I ordered barbecue beef ribs, candied yams, baked macaroni and cheese, and collard greens from Sole Food BBQ and I’m not exaggerating when I say this meal made me cry. I come from a soul food family and I used to be the one cooking for everybody family, friends, whoever was around. I haven’t really cooked or even eaten real soul food in years. This meal reminded me of my grandparents, my old self, and what “home” feels like. It honestly felt like a hug. The macaroni and cheese was perfect cheese pull, flavor, baked just right, and plated beautifully. The collard greens were seasoned so well I didn’t have to add a single thing. The candied yams were rich, buttery, and sweet in all the right ways. The beef ribs absolutely blew me away: tender, flavorful, and cooked exactly how they should be. I didn’t touch the salt or pepper shakers once. Every item came out with top-tier taste, seasoning, and presentation, and the portions were generous. I’ve been trying to order from this place for about two weeks and finally got the time today. It was worth every bit of the wait. This wasn’t just good food it was comfort, memory, and love on a plate. I will definitely be ordering again.

Must try!!! We ordered the fried ribs with fries quick bites, the sweet potato pound cake, the fried whiting fish dinner with Mac and cheese and candied yams. Hands down some of the best soul food I've ever had. The staff was so warm and inviting. I wish I ordered 2 orders of the fried ribs they were the things I've tasted. Next time I'm in the area, I'm coming back. My son ate the wings so fast never got a chance to get a picture of his food. I promise you will not be disappointed!!!

I came in for a second time. A little wait and for my peach cobbler but it was worth it. I had the BBQ chicken platter with Mac and cheese and collard greens babe when I tell you I ate everything and didn't want ti share my food but I have to let people know I grew up in a house hold mother from Alabama and can throw down. Soul food was a staple in our house and this place sole food bbq is next best to my mother's cooking. If you want good food come here and try the macaroni salad also. Hands down finger lickin good.

Such a generous portion for what we paid! We got the large ribs which came with two sides: we got the Mac and cheese and candied yams. All of it was amazing!

All i'm saying is call the cops... cause i know they got somebody's granny in the basement whipping up some goodness... i went there today before opening to pick up some lunch... i saw they had beef ribs so i had to try them out... and unfortunately they were not ready yet so i ordered the whitting meal with yams and mac-n-cheese... and lets be clear when i got home i realized how heavy the bag was... the portion are generous to say the least... so much so that my wife and i shared the first plate for lunch... and still had enough to share with our kids when they came home from camp.. whats in the photo will be tomorrows lunch... i struck up a conversation with the chef not realizing he was one of the owners and he told me the ribs are normally available around 3pm but sell out fast... i t9ld him of the food ttasted as good as it smelled i would come ba k another day for the ribs... i was then told if i liked the meal and called back they would set aside a portion of ribs for me next time i came thru... long story short but the food was so good i had to go back same day to try the ribs... i arrived right before closing and as promised they had a generous portion for ribs waiting for me as well... and boy did the ribs deliver... my family of 4 all ate good tonight thanx to the Sole Food BBQ and when i tell you the places smells just like the food tastes... flavors are everywhere in all the items we tasted... check on your granny cause she may be working in the kitchen on the low... the food is amazing and tastes like home... but i'm definitely going back to check for my granny when i order again next time.

Best soul food around. Period. Nothing out of a can, all fresh. I'm going today! You should too!

Amazing food service & portions I got fried fish & I got my son the beef ribs, which were fantastic. Second time ordering from here both times everything was delicious. The sweet potatoes are perfect as is the mac & cheese. My fried fish was a little salty, but I might be biased because I typically cook with only a little bit of sea salt so for most people it probably wouldn't be salty. I wish I had ordered the beef ribs for myself. They were fantastic super nice clean And delicious.

Best soul food in town. Platters are hefty and the catfish never miss. Come early they do sell out and they aren't open on Saturdays. Service will depend on how busy. Sometimes I have to stop in and wait due to the lines being backed up. Must try is the pound cake specials and the purple ginger ale

DELICIOUS, clean place & kind service. Some of the most perfect take out I've ever had. I'm from Staten Island and gonna have to come here every time I go to Walmart down the street hahaha. The yams were so perfect and Mac and cheese was UNREAL. Pounds of food, the portions were huge! Plate was overflowing & heavy!!!

I ordered dinner on GrubHub and my expectations were low. I haven't had great experiences with soul food in Woodbridge. But omgggg this food was sooooo good!! Fish was perfectly seasoned and fried nicely. The yams were the perfect sweetness and the collard greens were perfect...seasoning was great with a good amount of meat!! I can't wait to try other options on their menu!!

I've been coming here regularly for a month and it is definitely consistent with tasty food and great service. They give big portions of everything. Some of my favorites are the bbq beef ribs, honey wings, smothered turkey chops, Mac n cheese, potatoe salad and whiting fish. Mike is the man.

I've driven past this place many times and am glad that I stopped at this diamond in the rough! For starters, the fish was fried to perfection with a good amount of flavor packed in. As were the wings! I went with the sticky candied wings, which were indeed sweet but not super stinky (fortunately). As good as the wings and fish were, I'd have to say the Mac might've slightly edged them out to be the star of the meal. My son said it could've used a tad bit more cheese but we both agreed the flavor profile was still there and doing SUMMERSAULTS; I was good with the cheese ratio for the record. The greens were good but unfortunately they weren't the same temp as everything else, but again the flavor hit, so I won't deduct that from the experience being enjoyable. The sleeper were the yams tho, hands down; because based on looks, I had low expectations, but they were sweeeeeeT, thru and thru! I could taste da brown sugar in the glaze (pause), and each bite was more enjoyable than the last. Overall this was a cool find. The two brothas behind the counter were courteous and professional, and the inside was clean and presentable. I'll def be returning and suggesting this spot to others in the future!

Really great food. My only question why are they closed on Saturday. Great food and great service. Defly like bbq or soul food this is a place to go to.

Just ok. I only tried the whiting fish. It wasn't seasoned enough for me but there isn't another place in the area that sells fish. I'd like to see better flavor

I ordered the BBQ chicken and got the whiting fish instead. This is fine with me since I was debating between the whiting and the chicken. The fish was very flavorful, slightly dry to my liking, but the breading was crispy and stuck to the fish perfectly not falling off. Candied yams were amazing, not too sweet, perfect consistency. The Mac and cheese was also a hit packed with cheese and well seasoned giving a good complement to the fish and yams. Great little spot, that also has daily specials like brisket.would recommend for sure!

Love the Beef Ribs. Nice and Tender. I would suggest light BBQ sauce. The Collards are Awesome

The food is good and nice portions !!! Mac and cheese and peach cobbler is great they have specials on Sundays! I recommend!

Food was amazing. The fried ribs was phenomenal. I called they were so nice to me. And the vibe gave very family oriented

I have visited the location 4x now and i have to say i have tried.most of the meals and sides. I only have a few complaints. 1. The beef ribs sell out fast... call when they open ir you want to secure an order. They will save you some if you ask and its definatly worth asking for. 2. I have yet to try their turkey wings apparently they are really popular and they are always sold out when i try to order them. I have been told they are amazing and worth driving over an hour to purchase. 3. Corn bread... I dont think they offer it... but if they did i gaurentee its gonna sell out. The flavors and sauces are so good you kinda need a big piece of cornbread to collect the rest of the juices left behind after your meal... aside from those complaints. This is one of the best soul food spots in the state... the inside is small but what other options do you have when the place is full of flavor. Its definately wrth the trips. They also offer really generous portions for a really really good price and thats not c9mmon when you compare all that to the high quality of the meals. I have paid alot more and recieved a lot less.. here... you pay less... and get more... i will definately be back.

was hoping to find a soul food restaurant in the Woodbridge area as we were going to be there today. We saw that the Florida Grove location soul food restaurant came up but we were like oh we don't like that place it's stinky (literally) BUT then we realized it has a NEW NAME and NEW OWNERS, and it's SO clean and smells delicious and it's called Sole Food BBQ. so you should run, not walk there and order some delicious food. We got the Whiting dinner with collard greens and mac & cheese. And we also bought the smothered turkey wings over rice with stuffing and collard greens, and one extra side of candied yams. when the smothered gravy hits the rice, it almost gives it a risotto texture, so delicious. Rich and creamy and delicious. The only small complaint is the collard greens are a little salty. But everything was nicely portioned. The owners are so nice on the phone and in person. Wishing them all the luck in the world. Be sure to ask for the daily specials. Today's was the smothered turkey wings. We also got the grandma iced tea, which my husband loved. be sure to stop at this family owned business and show them some love.

Someone suggested that I come and try this place out so I wanted to make sure that I came to try it out hands-down this is the greatest Soulfood barbecue place in New Jersey possibly the country. Each and every bite is filled with flavor, love and blissful happiness. It's more of a takeout spot however they do have limited seating for two people or so the mac & cheese was delicious each and every bite was filled with cheesy goodness my daughter had the wings and couldn't resist eating it down to the bone. The ribs were nothing short of amazing. I had to pause so many times to make sure that this was real because I've been searching for a great Soulfood spot for quite some time. I'm so happy I don't have to look any further and I also hear they do catering. Can't wait to possibly book them for Thanksgiving. Everyone should try this place and support consistently so they can stay open because this is something that we need in our lives.

I just found out about this restaurant about 2 months ago and I've literally been going 1-2 times a week because I can't get enough. They have the best seasoning for their chicken and fish. The sides are good too. They never disappoint, always consistent. The service is great too. Must try!

Omg I'm obsessed! Customer service was amazing & the food is so good! I got the whiting fish sandwich & it was perfection. Fresh & a good portion, I definitely recommend
