Wonderful UWS cafe with very New York atmosphere. Great tasting coffee. I noticed this cafe because I saw that offer Syrnyki - which is a typical Unrainian dessert. So of course I ordered Syrniki and they were very tasty. I also recommend the overnight oats with fruits. Very tasty as well. Overall a wonderful buzzing cafe with great food options, coffee, pastries, and atmosphere. DD Verdict: GO HERE!

Love how cozy this place is!! Met my friend for breakfast here and it was packed on a Friday morning. After ordering o soon realized why it was packed the staff is so kind and food was amazing! My friend and I both ordered different things so we could try it: apple danish, cheddar bacon danish, custard donut, flat white coffee and chai latte. I try chai everywhere and it was so good!!

Google
Awesome coffee shop! Got me by surprise with the Slavik staple - Sirniki. Highly recommended. The shop has plenty of space to work on your laptop, nice music and great coffee.

Google
My favorite coffee spot! (I come here almost every other week!) Delicious strong coffee, and the vatrushka? Dreamy. Add a Central Park view, and you’ve got a perfect little coffee break.

Google
Seating is a bit tough in this popular spot, but the standing bar helps make up for it. I got a drip coffee and the toast with house jam and I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the serving and the quality. The apple jam wasn't too sweet, the butter was flavorful, and the toasted sourdough was perfect. And the drip coffee was also quite nice. Glad I found this neighborhood gem.

Spacious coffee shop with no WiFi. They still run out of seating often. Some limited outdoor seating available. Very well made cortado and ice lattes.

Google
I love the atmosphere at Solid State and the customer service is always pleasant. The cold brew blend stands on its own with great flavor and not too acidic in my opinion. My favorite breakfast choice is the avocado toast with soft boiled egg. Delicious and filling! This is a place I will frequent often and enjoy.

Google
Solid State Coffee is a fantastic coffee shop with a surprisingly large amount of seating for New York City. They have a nice selection of beans for purchase, a wide variety of pastries, good selection of coffee options, and a nice food menu. I ordered a Mocha, Jelly filled donut, and a bacon cheddar danish. The mocha was just the right amount of bitter, partnering really well with the chocolate to not be over powered. The donut and danish were delicious, even though the danish was served at room temperature. Overall a great experience and worth coming again. I will also mention the restroom is really clean as well and well maintained.

Yelp
I have visited this coffee shop twice this week and I'm a fan! Vanilla latte- excellent Christmas tree latte- delightful and perfectly not too sweet Cappuccino- loved it GF blueberry cake- pretty good, a little dry GF banana muffin- fantastic Cardamom bun- positive reports Lots of seating and a nice vibe. Friendly staff. Clean restroom. What's not to like!

Yelp
Rating is just for the chai and the wait in line. The line moved slowly on a Sat afternoon. The servers were doing their best, but seemed like having one more barista or server would have helped. The chai was weak, too much milk and not enough chai. The servers were nice though.

Yelp
Needed a treat after an appointment in the area and this place did the trick. Oat milk latte was amazing, and the cardamom bun was solid. They also have a full kitchen! Definitely recommended if you need a coffee shop near 72nd.
google avatar

Alisa J.

Yelp
Matcha latte was ok. This is definitely a coffee place. The breakfast sandwich was fresh and tasted so good. Would definitely recommend. Loved the vibes as well. Service was quick

Yelp
Solid State coffee was awesome. Waited in a long line on a rainy Saturday morning. Got a pourover and it was delicious. One of the best cups of coffee I've had in a long time.
google avatar

Yelp
Great music from a vintage sound system. Great coffee as well. Can't wait to go back and try the food.
google avatar

Yelp
Cool vibe, kind and friendly service, and I enjoyed my drink. If you like good coffee and find yourself on the UWS I think you'll enjoy it

Yelp
Bustling coffee shop in Chelsea! Came here with a friend for some iced tea to-go, and thought the menu was fairly priced. I wish there were some more novel flavors of coffee drinks and tea, though. The coffee shop has a nice food menu as well (if a bit pricey), and I'd love to come back and try some of it! The shop goes surprisingly deep and there's a lot of seating for big groups, booths, etc which was cool to see for a space that was tucked away in the street. I got the berry hibiscus, and it was refreshing and light. There was a decent line on Sunday afternoon, but the service was friendly and quick.

Lee P.

Yelp
Best place for flat whites, pastries and reading. I suggest you go early as it tends to get crowded. Also, gather points and save them up, so nice to pop in for a free drink every few months!
google avatar

Yelp
With a lot of competition this cafe stands alone as the best in the neighborhood. The coffee is always excellent and the atmosphere pleasant - a great place to bring friends or enjoy alone. Highly recommend but be aware that there may be a long line to get in.

Yelp
pretty cafe in nyc. iced mocha was good, but not the best ive had (it was more on the milky side). seating and ambience inside were adorable. my bev was made in less than 5 mins. also note it was super busy on a saturday morning (like line started outside of the cafe)
google avatar

Yelp
Great cold brew and friendly baristas in this tucked-away UWS gem. My sis thinks I visit her in NYC from Cali, but really I'm just flying in for the coffee. So smooth.

Yelp
3.5/5 This coffee shop is cute and has a lot of seating in the back and they have a backyard area too. You can definitely chill for a while or even do work here. But the prices here are just so steep. I got a dirty chai latte with oat milk and it was $9 bc you have to pay 50 cents for ice, $1 for oat milk, $0.75 for syrup. I know coffee in the city is crazy expensive already but I have to say this is the most expensive coffee I've ever gotten in nyc and I just didn't think it was amazing? It was good but the coffee here isn't crazy where I'd be willing to pay that much money each time for a latte. But if you live in the area and want a nice place to study or do work, you should check it out.
google avatar

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Amazing coffee spot! Room to sit and study or read inside or outside. Friendly and quick service. The pastries looked so fresh, I saw them bringing out new ones. It was very busy on a Saturday but the line moved really fast. I think a weekday may be more chill here. Would be tough to sit and study on a Saturday or Sunday. I can't wait to try more!

Yelp
no wifi so little actual matcha. so much milk and ice. for $7 guy was not very happy to be working there
google avatar

Ashley B.

Yelp
My local coffee spot! A bit hidden but a great find, my sister is now obsessed as well. We always get the iced matcha latte, mine with almond milk and hers with oat, both are fantastic. Line usually on the weekends, doesn't move the fastest because the baristas are chatty, but I don't mind as it adds to the neighborhood vibe. Everyone is super friendly, they offer food but haven't had a chance to try any yet but it looks good. Snagged a cardamom bun one time and it was delicious. There is seating in the back but no wifi -- which I really like because it gives me time to journal.
google avatar

Anthony P.

Yelp
RATING: 8.2/10 As a space the place is gigantic, has a ton of small tables in the back (gets lively on the weekend) and there's some small seating in an outdoor area in the back outside, which seems quieter. Bathroom and wifi, yes. A selection of savory pastries and breakfast plates are available. I opted for : SPINACH FETA DANISH This was actually quite good with sesame decorating the outside and it had a nice flaky, airy and gently crisp texture. The spinach and feta was also quite garlicky, adding an umph of flavor and nice savoriness to it as well. Liked it more than I thought I would. OAT CAPPUCCINO This was pretty solid too, and the coffee had a nice flavor profile that stands out from a lot of coffee shops in NYC. The drink itself was relatively homogeneous, and had beautiful latte art. A good cup of coffee, maybe even great. Overall I would recommend coming here if you were to go on a coffee date or wanted to sit in a coffee shop for a while. It's quite large and has breakfast so you could eat there too and there's outdoor tables as well. CATEGORY: GREAT (terrible bad ok good GREAT excellent)

Yelp
What a cute coffee shop this is. I have passed it many times but never went in. When you walk in to your left are shelves where you can purchase different items, books, art, coffee. In the front of the shop there is a little seating area. As you walk towards the back there is much more seating. Very friendly place and deff has regulars as the staff would say hi again nice to see you, or hi its been a while how have you been. I got a latte and WOW it was tasty. Not bitter at all or lacking flavor. If you are in the upper west side area I highly recommend this cute spot.

Yelp
My favorite coffee shop right now!! There is usually a line to get inside, but it is completely worth it. Tables in the back make it great for working, free WiFi, and a good place to catch up with friends as they also have couches in the front. Their food is also really solid - I got an avocado toast and matcha latte after Barry's nearby and it was definitely worth it. Highly recommend grabbing coffee here if you're in the area!
google avatar

Lynna O.

Yelp
Very cute and amazing indoor seating cafe! I got the pumpkin spice latte, and my friend got their matcha latte. Both were amazing, and the flavor is delicious. It wasn't your typical pumpkin spice syrup. You can tell it is authentic and handmade for sure. Best psl I've had! Service is amazing and fast!
google avatar

Chaewon L.

Yelp
This is a very local-esque place in UWS. You have to walk down a few steps on the staircase to reach the inside. When you walk in, it's very much like a railroad layout. There's a bar, and then you walk deep in, and then you see the seating area. For such a small place, there were quite a few tables, which is nice. I got the cold brew for a take away, and it was really meh. Quite sour, and a lot of it was just ice. Also seemed slightly more pricier than other coffee shops around. The place was quite crowded in the afternoon, and I just felt a bit chaotic being in there to grab a cup of iced coffee.

Yelp
Incredible customer service. The guy clearly knows his coffee. For some thing as basic as a cortado, he took the time to explain the the origin of the beans that were in it. The coffee itself was delicious, a work of art. I love the ambience. Quiet enough to get work done while still having conversation if you want to.

Yelp
ALWAYS makes my morning! I love love love this coffee shop! A neighborhood gem and always bringing people here while visiting as well. The staff knows their coffee and always educating myself as i'm learning. Almond iced latte and GF blueberry cake is my go to order!! You can tell the difference in the coffee flavor, unlike anything I have had in NYC. Thank you!

Yelp
Absolutely delicious coffee they also have some food items A nice place to unwind and enjoy a great cup of coffee outdoor and indoor seating
google avatar

Steph W.

Yelp
The inside is super cute! There's a cozy area in the back and a small outdoor patio as well. The coffee tasted pretty good. Breakfast options seemed a bit pricey.

Yelp
I can't believe I've been sleeping on Solid State Coffee for the past three years I've been in NYC simply because they don't have wifi. Not only does Solid State have one of the best cold brews I've ever had, but their food menu is incredibly inventive and delicious. Came here for the first time after a run in Central Park and I ordered one of their cold brews (the one flavored with blueberries) with a splash of oat milk and it was soooo delicious. The berry flavor was present and sweet without being too sour or fake. Coffee was smooth and delicious with the perfect amount of milk. I really want to try their other cold brew another time. Their seasonal syrup also looks intriguing. Today, I came for brunch and ordered the heirloom tomato cottage cheese bowl, and this dish completely blew me away. It was colorful and beautifully plated with a smear of bright pesto, both chopped heirloom and cherry tomatoes, dressed microgreens, and savory granola. An unreal flavor flavor combination. Soooo perfect for a summer day, and filling as well. I'm so excited to recreate this dish. I also want to come back and try some of their pastries and other menu items, like the cacio e pepe grits. So creative! Although the storefront looks small, the actual space is actually quite large, with many tables in a warm, inviting dining room with wood paneling. There's good light in the room, reflected by tactfully placed mirrors, as well as a small outdoor area/patio that would be great to read on a warm spring day. Also the bathroom is beautiful, with a little skylight sort thing as well. Solid State is such a hidden gem of the UWS, and I can't wait to be back.

Yelp
Terrific coffee in a low key side street W70s location Have passed through these streets for over a decade & never noticed Solid Stare Ample quiet seating inside, a bunch of tables out front I'll be back
google avatar

Yelp
Great iced latte with house blossom syrup. They got it perfect - not too sweet, not too much milk and very smooth coffee. They also have a cute backside seating tucked in, would absolutely come back and hang.

Yelp
Back in the summer, my friend suggested that we come here for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon. I am very happy we did since this is such a cute little cafe in the UWS that can be easily missed if you are not paying attention! The place is a lot bigger than it appears from the outside and has plenty of seating on the inside in the back area. They have very simple decor but have some windows and orange furniture which gives it a very open and bright feel, perfect for an afternoon of studying/working/reading a book. We ordered our food and drinks at the cashier and the gentleman who helped us was super nice. He gave me advice on what to order and was very patient while I decided. This place has a drink menu with a variety of all the traditional drink options you could want plus some seasonal selections. I ordered an iced matcha with almond milk which was perfectly creamy and refreshing without being too watery -- the matcha had just the right amount of bitterness which was balanced by the sweetness of the almond milk. Super good! Their selection of baked goods is also broad and they were all eye-catching. In terms of their kitchen menu, since this was back in the summer, their main food menu consisted of a selection of dishes that used the seasonal produce. For food we ordered: Gazpacho: I was hoping for a lighter lunch and wanted something filling but also refreshing on a hot summer day. This hit the spot! This was a chilled tomato soup that had a delicious flavor and tasted very fresh. It had hints of smoky red bell pepper balanced by sweetness of the tomato drizzled with a bold olive oil which really tied everything together. It came with house made croutons which were the best croutons I have had in my life -- they were crunchy but had more moisture than your regular store bought croutons...you could tell that the bread they used for these was of the highest quality and it is just a reflection of how meticulous they are about even the most simple aspects of their dishes. 10/10! Heirloom Tomato Bowl: my friends both ordered the heirloom tomato bowl and really enjoyed it. This was a very interesting concept. It reminded me of a yogurt bowl but instead of being sweet it was savory and had cottage cheese, tomatoes, pesto, and a "savory granola" which gave the bowl a very nice salty crunch. The combination of the creamy cheese with sweet tomatoes and a hint of balsamic was divine. Very good! Overall, I really liked this cafe. Their ambiance is quiet but visually very vibrant. The service is very good and they bring your drinks/food out to your table if you choose to dine in. Their menu is ample in caffeinated/noncaffeinated drinks and they have a very decent selection of baked goods that I am looking forward to trying in the future! Finally, even though slightly on the pricey end for the portion sizes, the food is more elevated and higher quality than what you would get at most other places. Will be coming back again!

Yelp
Food was amazing, but there wasn't a Japanese iced pour over and when I ordered a pourover with an Anaerobic Natural from Colombia it was slightly too roasted to experience the quality of the beans. I'd recommend shaving 30sec to one minute off the roast to enjoy the originality of the coffee, it's an anaerobic natural so should be bright, sweet, and fruity, not bitter from going too dark...
google avatar

Yelp
New favorite coffee spot on the UWS! I've always gone to Black Press or Irving Farm because I had the impression that Solid State was pricier. I was wrong! Great coffee, competitive prices, and a really nice spot to hang out. I'm a fan of their pour overs and espresso-based drinks, which run in the $4-5 range. They do offer a couple options like matcha and seasonal flavors, but for the most part, this is a coffee shop that actually focuses on coffee. They list the beans they're brewing for that day's cold brew, batch brew, espresso, and pour overs, and they change them up fairly often. The staff here is always very friendly and happy to make recommendations, and their espresso drinks are perfectly balanced. When you walk in, it seems like a grab and go spot, but there's a cozy area in the back that has plenty of seating and even a couple spaces outside. Solid State doesn't have wifi, which helps deter people from camping out for hours, but there are usually a fair number of people using hotspots to work regardless. Luckily, it stays pretty balanced between people chatting, reading, and working, and I've never seen it get packed.

Yelp
I was excited to stop by. Disappointed in the coffee -- it was bitter and lukewarm. Also the guy at the counter was frankly rude. For example at the counter he offered me a side of milk for my coffee which I gratefully accepted -- I poured in his presence -- i started to leave and he called me back and asked me -- rather, told me -- to bus the dish for him. I always bus my table but it's not my responsibility to bus his counter. Why do I bother tipping? Giving it 3 stars because it's a non chain cafe and we need more of those. And it's a nice space in a good location. Otherwise--the cafe needs to work on its coffee and its manners.
google avatar

Madison B.

Yelp
Such a cute spot with lots of customers! They have a seating area in the back where you can eat sit down style if you aren't in a rush :) I would totally come back here and if I lived closer would be a regular!
google avatar

Kelsey A.

Yelp
Big fan! It had a great ambiance for sitting during a lunch break or getting some work done. There are lots of tables in the back and some comfy chairs and couches. The cappuccino was solid.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
Great little coffee spot. It looks tiny but there is seating in the back. Walk in and place your order at the counter; drinks are handed out at the bar but if you order food you'll get a number to take to your table. On a hot July morning my husband and I stopped in for iced lattes and breakfast. The coffee was the perfect amount of bitter with the right balance of milk and ice. The croissant was great. We also got an egg sandwich with labneh and arugula that was ENORMOUS and so good. I was barely hungry for lunch that day!

Ji L.

Yelp
Nice coffee; nice atmosphere; nice place to sit. Reasonable prices. Banana bread is a great accompaniment to the coffee. Very decent latte. How can they not have wifi?
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
Solid State coffee is a great hideaway. Staff are very nice and helpful. BLT is very good, delicious. Tea is always made to order. My new go to place.
google avatar

Yelp
Solely based on the mocha I got. And the lack of recommendations the cashier gave my indecisive ass.
google avatar

Tyla A.

Yelp
On a trip to NYC, this quickly became our favorite coffee and breakfast spot! The staff were all so kind and helpful with suggestions. The coffee and food were both stellar!!! Compared to other shops in the city, this place had a good amount of space.

Trevor F.

Yelp
Batch brew is amazing. Changed the way I think about coffee. Pour overs are a really fun way to spice it up. Banana loaf is to die for. Great people. Great coffee
google avatar

Yoni Z.

Yelp
Good selection of coffees, ample seating room, they move quickly and make a solid, solid pour over.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious coffee and vegan muffin options! Just wish there were a few seats inside, it was freezing & windy out so we sat on the floor.
google avatar

Nivi R.

Yelp
It's my new go-to coffee shop when on the UWS! Picking up coffee here and then walking over the park is one of my favorite things do over to the weekends. Highly highly recommend the coffee here!
google avatar

Tasha H.

Yelp
Honestly, what's not to love? I found this gem of a coffee shop after one of my morning runs. I orderd a dirty chai and nearly squealed with delight when I saw the Rishi box. Word of wisdom to those who proudly "steep their own" bland chai tea, don't! Just order Rishi and your customers will thank you later. Back to this cute shop: the place was spotless, had a small table setup outside, and friendly, fast service from the barista. I'll be sure to patronize when in the area.
google avatar

Sonya H.

Yelp
Very cute, quaint new spot on the Upper West Side. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about their coffee. It was interesting to learn about the farmers and their beans. My mocha and (I'm a mocha snob) I ordered with oat milk it was just OK. Unfortunately, the chocolate was not mixed well so it was clumpy. I could get a good gauge of the coffee either. I may try it again and order just a black coffee.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
Came in to hide from incoming rain and enjoyed one of the best lattes I've ever had. Next time, I'll be back rain or shine.
google avatar

Wesley K.

Yelp
The cold brew here is multi dimensional and so good ($4.50 + tax). I love how the taste really permeates and motivates me. Definitely coming back as it is good. As previous reviewers mentioned, there is no wifi and also the vibe is more catch up with friends and read a book vs a working cafe. Seriously obsessed and have only been to a few other cafes that have the same standards as Solid State. My experience here is only involving the cold brew and I have no tried anything else here yet.
google avatar

Jennifer S.

Yelp
Solid State Coffee offers delicious coffee, a fun food and pastry selection, and has more seating than meets the eye from outside. I loved their cold brew; it was smooth and rich with all the right notes. I also loved the scrambled state sandwich, which had soft scrambled with lebnah, cucumbers, and fresh greens on a potato bun - yum, yum, yum! I look forward to trying their carbonara toast and cacio e pepe grits! If that weren't enough, the vatrushka pastry was delicious - fluffy dough with creamy, fruity filling - what's not to love!
google avatar

Betsy S.

Yelp
We went here for a quick iced coffee. It's a cute little place tucked away in the sidewalk. They make their own beans and such in the back. I ordered an iced coffee with almond milk (mind you the almond milk is $1 extra). Be careful because all of these milks add up! They have two little tables on the sidewalk for you to sit at. They do have loyalty points as well. Apparently they opened during the pandemic which I give them a lot of credit! It's a cute little place in the neighborhood especially when I don't always want Starbucks!
